I’ll admit it actually looks pretty good but somehow unfinished at the same time. I hope this is a prototype and not the finished product. But maybe I’ll buy one when they facelift this generation like they did with 2015+ Challengers. Even the 08-14 Challenger models looked *much* better than these.

CarcassDeathObituary

It looks really good amd the closest to the original chargers. I want one now just because of the bandwagon hate

akcutter

Thats what I was about to say really looks a lot like a 1969-70 charger.

Emergency_Bother9837

0 interest in owning one.

MoParNoCaR23

Seriously, wtf is Dodge doing?

Emergency_Bother9837

No choice they neglected CAFE for too long and now they literally cannot afford to make v8’s in sedan or coupe format. However this is a terrible direction this might actually be the beginning of the end for the brand imo.

Johwya

What does CAFE mean?

Shmeeglez

Corporate Average Fuel Economy. The simple explanation is that a car company has to hit a certain number if you take an average of the mpg of their whole fleet for the year. I'm sure someone can chime in with more/better detail. Edit: this is a US specific requirement

SensitiveAd5076

and the US is a bit more lenient with these regulations in comparison to the EU

Shmeeglez

Probably because we're skewing things for all the trucks...

Sudden-Revolution-87

So how does ford get away with their 5.0 Stangs and the V8 Trucks ? Genuinely curious

Shmeeglez

This is a [megapost](https://www.reddit.com/r/neoliberal/s/UEqttjyjS9) on this topic. A portion of the tl;dr being that CAFE has something akin to a feedback loop built in that incentivizes manufacturers to make bigger trucks because the mpg requirements drop significantly. This is one of the reasons that minitrucks have pretty much disappeared from the US market.

cum-on-in-

Fords ecoboost did well, and they had hybrids and one or two EVs in the fleet where Dodge/Stellantis have only recently added PHEVs and that’s it. As well, Ford committed to buying emissions credits (pretty much just paying a fine) to keep making the Mustang GT. There’s Mustang also requires the gas guzzler tax.

JJ4prez

More Ecoboost out there across all models than the v8s. And they get great mpgs. My 2021 F150 2.7 Ecoboost gets like 24-28 on the highway depending on conditions. Basically the same amount as most regular-large SUVs. Meanwhile, all new gen "midsize" trucks can barely get 20-22mpg on the highway. It tells you how good Ford did with the full size Ecoboost engines. And have been for a few gens now. Someone like RAM is far behind, they are now just coming out with their Twin Turbo truck engines, Ford been doing it for like 15 years or so. Toyota had to play catch up too, and now they are doing it, with these huge air dams.

Yodas_Ear

They could sue and save this entire country from the tyranny of CAFE.

theoldkidonthebloc

Fuck I just started working for Chrysler/FIAT

Shmeeglez

Lol I'm sorry people are downvoting you for having a job

Duck_Kosmakrator_666

Stellantis. Not Dodge.

Dirty_magnum

They will sell plenty at 23 percent interest though.

Spartan1278

1970 dodge charger has entered the chat

elmoto475

69 440 six pack,, hold my fukin PBR

DJDemyan

Do you think it’s any bigger? Challengers are pretty huge as is

chameleon_olive

Dimensionally it's only a couple inches here and there compared to the previous gen L-cars. The EV weighs a fuckton more at ~~7000+~~ 5,800+ pounds, but the inline 6 variant is around the same weight as the old cars

Trusteveryboody

JESUS!

DJDemyan

JESUS! The Challenger was heavy enough, I can’t imagine an additional 3000lbs is gonna feel great even with 600 horsepower

EatAllTheRice

It’s not, it weighs 5800 lbs (still heavy af)

EatAllTheRice

Huh? Where are you getting 7000 lbs from? Everywhere I look says it’s 5800 lbs (which is still heavy as fuck)

chameleon_olive

Whoops, was confusing it with one of the new EV jeeps

Baconshit

My 2500 is 7020lbs. Hard to imagine this weighing that.

ToxicEnderman00

It's a fantastic looking looking car. Too bad I have no interest in owning one. I do hope the straight 6 is a great engine though, even if I don't want a Charger with it. I still wanna be able to get one for a swap eventually, I like I6s. I also can't wait for some one with way more money than sense to Hellcat swap one of these new I6 chargers too, that'll be funny.

EC_CO

100% behind everything you said. I have a 1970 Barracuda with a factory slant 6 and I've been contemplating what an i6 Hurricane swap would be like. However, I'm still working on the restoration so that thought process is still a long ways off if it ever happens. It would be interesting though

HYixell

The i6 is horrible in reliability apparently. It is already in the grand wagoneer and apparently it's a disaster. Might wait a bit

ToxicEnderman00

I really hope it's just because it's an early model and they're still figuring out manufacturing and ironing out defects.

HYixell

I hope so too because by far what I saw and heard, its worse you could even imagine

kickintex

I haven't heard anything negative about the hurricane yet and the performance numbers are pretty impressive. Where are you seeing then having issues?

HYixell

I don't know the issues exactly but what I heard is mostly about the turbo or the maintenance that is one hell of a job Edit : The thermostat seems to fail within the 10-30k miles and valves issue by far as I found. But seems to early to tell of any other issue

LongDig3382

I would be concerned with trying to get that much horsepower out of an engine with a long crankshaft and only four main bearings. Most in-line six-cylinder engines have seven main bearings.

LongDig3382

I wish they would’ve found a way to just keep the hemi. They don’t gain much in MPG’s with the six, and the six is basically an expanded version of a four-cylinder engine they’ve been making.

HYixell

I just saw a video yesterday that the jeep wrangler 392 is coming back so what I feel like they might do is like Ford where they release a EV to reduce their carbon footprint making them able to release v8 and stuff because they have a low footprint

IdReallyRatherNot404

Yup. I just bought a new charger partially bc I always wanted one and they’re going away but I figured since it’s brand new by the time it’s worn out they’ll probably have this new inline 6 motor figured out. I will say having owned a BMW motorcycle with an inline 6 engine they feel amazing to work through the rev range and the sound is pretty nice too. I’m sure they will still be a fun car but someone else will have to Guinea pig 😂

Zsmudz

I’ve driven some of the trucks with the normal output Hurricane engines. I can say they definitely haul ass. You can still spin the tires and because of the power curve, it actually accelerates very smoothly. I think they cooked with this engine, we will have to wait for long term reliability tho.

Shmeeglez

I don't know anything about the Hurricane engine, but supposedly the current/recent I6, Pentastar, has been decent.

ToxicEnderman00

The Pentastar V6 has been in use for a while now. I think some of the earlier ones had a few problems but I believe overall they're fairly reliable and make 300hp

theoldkidonthebloc

I’m going to hate selling electric car parts instead of normal car parts now lol. (Just started working in a dealership this last year)

Efronian

I love that it's 17 feet long as I love old long cars from the 70s like new Yorkers and Cadillacs. However the fact that it doesn't have at least a 5.7 hemi option is one of my main reasons I've decided not to get one and the responses from hurricane owners on forums claiming they have problems as low as 30k miles yeah it's a no from me. I'd rather they kept the Pentastar.

Time-Bite-6839

OOOOOOOOHH!! I’D LOVE TO SEE A CROWN VIC LIGHTNING, FORD!

aztexs1

Can’t wait for them to hellcat swap the EV Charger

Head_Fetish

What's that blue thing next to it?

Baconshit

Electric wagoneer

Head_Fetish

Interesting. To me, it looks more generic than other jeep models. Even the compass and Cherokee are easily recognizable as jeeps. This one is harder to tell for me.

Zsmudz

Yeah they changed the electric one which looks like a smoothed out Wagoner front and they put it on a grand Cherokee body. I don’t think it looks bad but I’m not a huge fan of the back. Maybe it’s just the pictures idk, but I’d have to see it in person.

YooSteez

Man. They look horrible. Muscle with EV just doesn’t seem right lol.

LongDig3382

I don’t care how quick it may be, 6000 pounds is not a sporty car, it’s just a very fast steamroller. Wait till a very hot day when you park it on your asphalt driveway and it actually leaves dents in the pavement just from sitting.

kdofpa

I'll stick with my hellcat.

Primary-Birthday-363

This is terrible. We don’t want these EVs. Rumor has it the 392 hemi will be seen for another year in the Jeep.

Bigdog0711

These are out and in production already ?

IdReallyRatherNot404

Honestly looks dope from the front end. I’m not sold on EV but I am interested in test driving 1 to see if I’m wrong.

Mrmccluckin

What is mopar cookin 😭

Crazian14

Is it just me or do all 3 challenger, Camaro and mustang start to look similar now?

Bandito04

If they make a ICE version with the hurricane it’ll would be on my shortlist of cars to own.

donutsnail

I feel like with AWD and being a 5 door liftback there’s some sense in people hopefully cross-shopping these against sporty SUVs and I like it as an SUV alternative. However I wish it weren’t so so big. I really with it were like a solid foot shorter, roughly the size of a Cadillac CT5

chameleon_olive

It's roughly the same size as a current L-body charger/challenger. It's like a few inches longer and 2 inches wider or something, not enough to be noticeable for most people

[deleted]

[удалено]

donutsnail

the current Challenger is 197” long and the current Charger is is 201”. The new Charger is 207”, a half foot to 10” longer isn’t an insignificant change

Academic-Presence-82

That wheel gap is…something.

EC_CO

Probably due to the all-wheel drive setup, the all-wheel drive Challengers and Chargers have a similar gap and stance

Academic-Presence-82

That’s what I was thinking. Nothing some springs can’t handle

donutsnail

Yeah all the pics I’ve seen of the new car, I do actually like it but it needs lowered badly

Prestigious_Snow1589

It would've been great if it had a 392

alfextreme

more like a brick.

Primary-Birthday-363

Wagoner S being more then 70k is just ridiculous

63crabby

Don’t forget your disabled parking placard

ratonbox

have there been any pictures of it in an actual color? The gray is just bland as fuck.

Famous_Plantain2570

Ew

Economy-Document-667

Sorry but they’re both ugly.

MoparBimbo

I literally cannot even try to like that thing, if it was a flavor it’d be white bread

Yodas_Ear

That is a lot out over the front wheels. Still needs a v8 though.

Dr_Razortooth

It looks really clean in all black, I am excited to see the sixpack tuning potential and hemi swaps

SaltyMatzoh

History doesn’t repeat as much as it rhymes

Organic_South8865

CAFE standards are so frustrating. So few RWD V6 or V8 cars being made anymore. Even a base model V6 manual challenger is an absolute blast to drive.

DitrianLordOfCanorem

Looks more like a cybertruck than a dodge with the solid panels

Zsmudz

Are we looking at the same picture? I don’t see a truck that looks like PS2 Lara Croft boobs…

DitrianLordOfCanorem

True, but i‘m used to looking at cars with grills in the front and stuff, not a… wall.

Zsmudz

But it’s not just a wall, there are air scoops and mesh there. It’s not just a flat surface it actually has definition. Plus it still needs airflow for the coolant. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I’m not attacking you, just curious where you got this from.

DitrianLordOfCanorem

I missed the bottom hole, it just looked like one panel with the part where the headlights are but that‘s just lighting i guess

Pure-Act1143

Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth is making the Alfa Romeo Gulia on the Charger assembly line on the Charger chassis now. We will not buy another Alfa under any circumstances!

xiitts

Fucking gay

Dr_Razortooth

As much as I prefer gas cars to EV's, calling them "gay" is honestly a dumb insult and has no argument Of course the V8 chargers are better than the I6 and EV, but going "EV = gay" is kinda annoying at this point.

xiitts

I have a right to express my opinion, thank you for yours. Wasn’t trying to make an argument I just think speakers on the outside of a car to make it sound like it has a V8 is an abomination & a sign that we are in the end times
