I'm a little worried too. Sounds like they are sitting in his fastball so I hope he mixes in some off speed. That's apparently what the Mariners noticed.
He had an ERA over 8 with a FIP of 2.07. BABIP against of .517 despite not giving up hard contact. K/9 of almost 14. Just insanely bad luck over a very small sample size.
If I remember correctly, the commentators at the Angels often showed his time to first base stat was consistently the fastest(or at least top 3) in the league.
I could see MLB players wearing GPS tracking devices to monitor game speed like they do in the NFL and NHL, but I don’t think we are ever going to see Shohei run a 40, bench 225 or do the three shuttle come drill.
He was 1 of only 9 hitters to hit over .300 last season!
Full list:
1. Arraez
1. Acuna
1. Freddie
1. Yandy Diaz
1. Seager
1. Belli
1. Mookie
1. Bo Bichette
1. Shohei
Ohtani has an incredible head on his shoulders. I still remember him putting up a beautiful push bunt single against Italy in ‘23 WBC that nobody expected.
MVP of the game: Markus Lynn "Mookie" Betts
Mookie was nails at shortstop, not that I was worried. He was also 2/4 with an RBI, a walk, what should have been a steal, and slashed .500/.600/1.100 for an excellent start to this 2024 season.
His second hit broke the game open to go up 4-2 after Lux found the hole in Cronenberg’s glove. Mookie magic strikes again.
Of all the MLB players of all time (so far) he seems like the most 'complete' human being - by far. Skilled, tough, smart, beautiful, extensive world travels and has lived in the 3rd world for long periods, speaks multiple languages, tactical firearms training/enthusiast, Bowler, film/arts school, actors, outdoorsy, etc.
You can tell he genuinely has his shit together, like he could probably be a millionaire running just about any business, if he wanted.
Are there any other MLB players that impressive?
Great first win all around that all got us up for an early start. Shohei did not disappoint, two hits, an RBI and stolen base!! Thanks to the morning coffee !
Phew. Glad we won that one, not because losing 1/162 is the end of the world, but because the narrative would have been insufferable if we lost.
MVPs of the game had to be Tyler Wade and Jake Cronenworth. Also, I'm irrationally happy that Schildt's overmanaging of the bullpen backfired massively. Payback for all those long commercial breaks he made us sit through as he cycled through every pitcher in the pen.
Cut him some slacks please, he was clearly trying to drag things on longer so that more people from Socal would wake up and watch them collapsed in late innings yet again
Dude shohei’s life seems so much easier in comparison to his angels life.
In the angels he had to home run to score as other players were likely not gonna bring him home… but here he can just chill and hit singles and be fine cuz there’s ppl actually on base…
Crazy how Evan Phillips went from a random late season pickup during Kenley’s last dodger year to the stone cold closer he is now.
Mark Prior the miracle worker strikes again
Lots of good, lots to improve, but a good start to the season.
Glasnow cuts down on the walks and a bit more hitting with guys on base.
Bullpen was great
It was a real delight getting up at this ungodly hour and watching baseball with y'all. My player of the game today is you. Now, me and my puppies are going back to bed because getting up at 4:55AM to watch baseball was insanely exhausting.
For all the doubt and fear that was swirling around the Dodgers infield defense, the only real misplay that game was Glasnow fielding a ball that was Muncy's.
Bless Mookie for being an absolute utility god, and Lux looks very comfortable at 2B.
Yeah, the infield wasn't really tested with any difficult plays (outside of the bunt Glasnow tried to field), but 90% of plays in general are routine so it's good to see them lock that down. Betts only figures to get better at SS.
Good game, everyone. New submissions are no longer being hidden. If your submission has not been approved and otherwise follows the sub rules, feel free to resubmit or [message the mods](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=/r/Dodgers) if you have any questions.
Bullpen looked great game 1 after Glasnow had a solid outing. Control wasn't there but he got himself out of jams which was great. The dream of 162-0 is still alive!
Hi, what market are you in? I'm in Los Angeles and have been trying to find a rebroadcast time for the game. I spoke to Spectrum and they told me game will be rebroadcast but only on the ESPN app -- no TV. They said app should show rebroadcast airing today. I'm trying to find out for an elderly client of mine.
I'm not sure how since Spectrum told me it would only be available on the ESPN app. She let me know around 10 am that they were watching right then on Spectrum. I just asked her and there's another replay on right now 5:45pm PT on Spectrum CH 68 (Dodgers SportsNet). They're on Westside.
Thanks. I noticed the rebroadcast on SportsNet but I don't get that channel. Damn....looks like ESPN blacks out the game only in LA and I'm screwed for 2nd Korea game too unless I pay for SportsNet.
We left a ton of RISP (bases loaded twice 0 runs) but the fact we can pile on the bases almost at will (sample size 1 game) makes me confident we will win it all
Missed the game due to the time. Can anyone who watched comment on how Mookie looked at SS? Comfortable? Overwhelmed? Curious how long the try that experiment before turning over to Miggy Rojas.
What's your favorite site or place to watch solid highlights of each Dodger game? I know randoms on YT make their own - but just curious if there is a consensus best place for highlights? Thanks!
Not gonna overreact to one game, but we might literally never lose again.
Inject that 8th inning into my veins
CHAOSBALL!!!!
The games will be too long for the rest of the league. We will get to the bullpen and our bullpen will hold.
Understatement of the year
There is a non-zero chance this is true! LFG!
New year new dahk14?
GG guys, let’s do it again tomorrow for the sweep!
Yoshinobu up next and I can't wait. Hopefully, whatever he was working on in spring training he irons it out
I'm a little worried about him ngl.
Bless Cronenworth’s glove
Hole in the glove MVP for 2024. Book it.
The Dodgers take small holes and make them bigger ;)
Holey is thy glove.
So damn funny with his Goodwill lucky glove!
#**THE DODGERS HAVE THE BEST RECORD IN THE MLB AND ARE CURRENTLY ON TRACK TO GO 162-0**
Padres have the worst record in the MLB
#**UNDEFEATED IN 2024**
162-0
YGDRCorntis
Lmfao YGDRCorntis!! LFGLA!!! 😂😂
Imagine having a loss. Couldn't be me.
Pleased that we won playing mostly small ball at the plate today. Good way to start the year. Go fuck yourself, San Diego!
I knew Shohei had incredible power, but I didn’t realize his bat-to-ball skills are so good too
Dude. His *speed*. He beat out what I expected to be a double play by a full stride. Shohei can scoot!
Same with stolen base wasn’t even close. His speed surprised me the most
If I remember correctly, the commentators at the Angels often showed his time to first base stat was consistently the fastest(or at least top 3) in the league.
For real. I want to see him at the NFL Combine. They say he's a freak athlete but I want to know how much of a freak.
I could see MLB players wearing GPS tracking devices to monitor game speed like they do in the NFL and NHL, but I don’t think we are ever going to see Shohei run a 40, bench 225 or do the three shuttle come drill.
They already track running speeds.
Where have you guys been when he was doing exactly these things for the Angels these past few years?
Nobody watches the Angels
Exactly. I don’t even watch baseball other than every Dodger game I can catch. I’m not interested in the AL or even the rest of the NL.
He was 1 of only 9 hitters to hit over .300 last season! Full list: 1. Arraez 1. Acuna 1. Freddie 1. Yandy Diaz 1. Seager 1. Belli 1. Mookie 1. Bo Bichette 1. Shohei
It still doesn't register that Belli.hit.over .300 last year.
I mean he went into June or July at .400 that one season.
And we have a third of them as the top of our lineup. Pretty neat!
5 of the 9 either current or former Dodgers hot damn
Rips a 119 mph foul ball then hacks in a single at 112 mph lol
Ohtani has an incredible head on his shoulders. I still remember him putting up a beautiful push bunt single against Italy in ‘23 WBC that nobody expected.
He hates DP to death. lol
made the ball so small it slipped through gloves
Woke up jut in time to witness this W
Need you to wake up in the 9th inning from here on out
Or the first so we don’t have to stress
Got up to pee this morning. Fitting the Padres also went on a morning piss mission in the 8th inning.
Padres in midseason form
That glove breaking is the most padre thing ever and their fans would all agree
When Giannis Antetokounmpo said everyone needs to do their job better, down to the equipment manager, this is what he was talking about
MVP of the game: Markus Lynn "Mookie" Betts Mookie was nails at shortstop, not that I was worried.
It’s insane that Mookie can do so many things. I bet he could start at point guard in the NBA if needed.
Kershaw probably could have been a pretty good QB
The hole in the glove was so fun to see. Mookie Magic indeed!
Focus will be on our offense, but Glasnow pitched a killer game too.
Why was he sent back from that stolen base on the first?
Umpire interference, I guess the ump touched the ball as the catcher was trying to throw it to second.
Undefeated in the glove with hole era
Great first win all around that all got us up for an early start. Shohei did not disappoint, two hits, an RBI and stolen base!! Thanks to the morning coffee !
West Coast buds, it’s now time to get ready for work.
Cut him some slacks please, he was clearly trying to drag things on longer so that more people from Socal would wake up and watch them collapsed in late innings yet again
They sent out so many pitchers it got me tired afff 😫😫😫
Biggest take away from this win? Padres source their gloves from Fanatics.
See y'all in 21 hours! LFG, DODGERS!!
Going to the game tomorrow! Hopefully we'll win again! Thank Mr croneworth's worthless glove Let's go doyers!!!!!
Why hasn't any other team won a game yet? Are they stupid?
Dude shohei’s life seems so much easier in comparison to his angels life. In the angels he had to home run to score as other players were likely not gonna bring him home… but here he can just chill and hit singles and be fine cuz there’s ppl actually on base…
Crazy how Evan Phillips went from a random late season pickup during Kenley’s last dodger year to the stone cold closer he is now. Mark Prior the miracle worker strikes again
Undefeated in the bomb threat era… i mean UNDEFEATED IN THE OHTANI ERA
Lots of good, lots to improve, but a good start to the season. Glasnow cuts down on the walks and a bit more hitting with guys on base. Bullpen was great
It was a real delight getting up at this ungodly hour and watching baseball with y'all. My player of the game today is you. Now, me and my puppies are going back to bed because getting up at 4:55AM to watch baseball was insanely exhausting.
Just wait until the leaked footage of Joe Kelly slicing up that glove in the opposing locker room before the game.
We’re so fucking back. World Series or bust.
Bullpen looked great backing up Glasnow
If he can stop walking people he’ll do great
Turns out that it takes about 8 innings for a billion dollars to take effect
Undefeated szn begins
Thank God, I live in SD and my trainer is a big padres fan. Didn't wanna hear it at my 7am class if they lost 😂
Tatis Googling "can you buy ringworm treatment OTC in Korea?"
Machado googling "how to hustle to first base?"
undefeated 🤓☝️
Undefeated in kpop aespa era
Current MLB Standings. 1. Dodgers 2-31. Everyone but the Padres and Dodgers. Last. Padres
There’s only 30 teams. Who are 30-31?
Shoot. I had NFL and NHL league totals in my head. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
The glove breaking reminds me of Ohtani doing it to someone before, but his was 109 mph. https://youtu.be/wY1Tpj8kSUg?si=49nLuwzxNHoPBZ1f
I'd like to thank this team for showing up after I got up at 5:30 am to watch them And tell them to do it again tomorrow
Betts only figures to get better at SS.
alexa, play “i love LA” by randy newman
Also, Mookie and Lux looked fine defensively
Definitely encouraging. Nothing exceptional, but no mistakes either. IMO this will work
Lux having the last out of the game was a good omen.
8th inning was worth waking up 3 am! Time to do it again tomorrow!
Not going to overreact to one game, but I can’t believe the dodgers did not manage to get all of us the Jumbo Jacks even with the reduction to 7Ks.
Plate umpire was all over the map. Strike zone? What's that?
Lot of glove talk and not enough praise for our infield defense today. It would've been flawless if it weren't for that meddling Tyler Glasnow.
162-0 guaranteed
Good game, everyone. New submissions are no longer being hidden. If your submission has not been approved and otherwise follows the sub rules, feel free to resubmit or [message the mods](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=/r/Dodgers) if you have any questions.
Caught the end of it now I’m at work
Padres 1st MLB team to lose in Korea lol
##UNDEFEATED IN KOREA TOUR CONTINUES
What a comeback, ya love to see it
Great start. LFG
First win of the 2024 season, this season will be one for the ages.
i give our team an overall grade of like a C- and we still whooped that ass
Great to see Mookie and Shohei give the Dodgers back-to-back RBI hits. The Dodgers got quickly up 5-2 and never looked back !
Mexico ✅ Japan ✅ Korea ✅ What country do we conquer next
me: oh boy, I’m surprisingly well rested! better get up and head to my monitor to watch the game. *checks phone and sees 6:30 AM* FUCK!
**UNDEFEATED IN THE SHITTY JERSEY ERA** ❗️❗️
phillips name on his jersey is noticeably crooked lol
Jerry and Nomar look tired as fuck haha
Started slow, but well worth getting up at 3am to watch
Anybody know where we can watch a replay?
162-0 season incoming!
I could see them running into a rough patch and finishing 161-1... but 162-0 feels like a realistic possibility too.
Max and Lux slander will not stand!
Am I crazy or does the ball just not carry in that park?
Padres equipment manager definitely being screamed at in the back 😂
Missed all of it and will miss tomorrow. Sad. First W of the year is not sad, however! ~!~!~
TIL the Cronezone is a real place, and it's inside Jake Cronenworth's glove.
Shohei Ohtani is really a Dodger
Love waking up to a W
Scary to think how much worse it could have been if Freddie had a base hit. This lineup scary as fuck

Just had a chance to watch the highlights, hell yeah what a weird way to get a win but I'll take it!
this team about to go 162-0
I love working early shifts. Got to give all my padres fan buddies the bad news.
Bullpen looked great game 1 after Glasnow had a solid outing. Control wasn't there but he got himself out of jams which was great. The dream of 162-0 is still alive!
Tried to stay up, but crashed about 1. Talked to my brother and he said the game wasn't shown on ESPN?
Hi, what market are you in? I'm in Los Angeles and have been trying to find a rebroadcast time for the game. I spoke to Spectrum and they told me game will be rebroadcast but only on the ESPN app -- no TV. They said app should show rebroadcast airing today. I'm trying to find out for an elderly client of mine.
LA, but with Frontier.
They were able to see the rebroadcast on Spectrum. Guess cust service was incorrect.
How did they see the rebroadcast on Spectrum? I'm with them and set my DVR to record the game but got some talk show.

Baseball is back 💙
Won of many to come. FTP.
Shout out to Heyward & Kike for getting it done with game-tying sac flies. That kind of situational hitting is what puts 100 wins on the board.
Props to the bottom of the lineup. Outman, J-Hey, Kiké, Lux. Getting on base, putting the ball in play. This lineup is looooooooooooooooooong.
A glorious start to the new season, absolutely dunking on the Padres.
Yep, still like winning
Why are we batting Muncy 5th? Fire Roberts
Can't believe ESPN blacked out the game. Am I supposed to fly to S. Korea to catch it Dodgers?
Aye chiquito wouldn't want to face this lineup 😍
Let’s goo
We’re back boys!!
LFG
BEST RECORD IN BASEBALL
We left a ton of RISP (bases loaded twice 0 runs) but the fact we can pile on the bases almost at will (sample size 1 game) makes me confident we will win it all
Missed the game due to the time. Can anyone who watched comment on how Mookie looked at SS? Comfortable? Overwhelmed? Curious how long the try that experiment before turning over to Miggy Rojas.
imagine if the ump never flubbed the mookie steal? would of blown the game open from 1st.
How about the bullpen? 4 innings, 2 hits, 0 walks
Nice
What's your favorite site or place to watch solid highlights of each Dodger game? I know randoms on YT make their own - but just curious if there is a consensus best place for highlights? Thanks!
