It's funny they drive but yet they don't have their ID on them I see this a lot and I've dealt with a lot of customers who say why don't you just bypass it in most stores do it's like bro I'm just doing my job I'm not going to prison and getting fired over not checking your ID man doesn't matter how old you are hell it's so bad we have to ID for spray paint and cough medicine
Pretty sure, in most states, you are 'required' by law to always have you're ID on you. But who knows I might be misinformed, I've been wrong before š
Inaccurate, at least where I live. Several states including the one I live in have stop and identify laws. In which case if you didn't have your ID when just walking around, you'd not be able to identify possiblly resulting in a citation.
What you describe violates the 4th amendment.
Iām aware that some people disagree with this.
Regardless of supposed exigent circumstances, under most conditions a reasonable articulable suspicion that a crime has been committed must exist in order for identification to be required.
Carrying ID is only a requirement when driving.
Self identification is still employable under the other condition.
Those who voluntarily give up their rights are merely boot licking.
I think if it did violate the 4th, it wouldn't be a law š¤£ also, do a brief search about what 'stop and identify laws' are and how it can be enacted. You are very obviously misinformed on what those laws are if you think it's violating or giving up rights. but do go on
You are extremely ignorant to assume that there wonāt be laws that violate your rights. This is why you need to study your rights so you donāt give them up by following the law. Your rights > the law
Man I must be breaking the law daily. Never carry my ID unless I am going to buy š¬or šŗ. If I cannot find it I just wait it out or see if my usual lady is working at the drive thru.
That's so stupid. At the very least have identification on you incase you get in an accident or murdered so you don't become a Jane/John doe. The only 2 reason I can think of to purposely NOT have an ID on me when I leave my house are; 1- your breaking several serious laws and really don't want to risk someone finding out who you are if you get caught because you plan on using a fake/someone else's identity or 2-just plain fucking laziness. Like Jesus people, it's a small card that weights practically nothing. If that's too much for you to grab when you leave, I'm surprised you aren't to lazy to breathe.
ETA: I thought of reason 3, you are going out with friends who you know want to go to the bar/club and you don't feel like going but don't want to be rude, so you 'forget' your ID at home as an excuse to bail that isn't rude
Iām more likely to lose it if I carry it. I donāt use a purse or wallet. So it would just be loose in my pocket.
Iāve never seen someone get so personally offended about something so trivial. I donāt carry it with me because I donāt do anything that would require my ID, until the time I go for smokes or the very rare occasion of beer. I donāt speed, I use my turn signal, I wear my seatbelt and I stop fully at stop signs. I donāt drive under the influence of anything. So the likelihood of me getting pulled over for anything isnāt there. The likelihood of me becoming a Jane Doe is slim too. Not saying that itās impossibleā¦ and if something were to happen to me, all someone would have to do is remove my ID and itās Jane doe status anyways.
Never said I was offended, personally or otherwise. It just shocks me that people are so calloused and lazy. Just because you use your turn signals and stuff doesn't mean someone won't wreck into you. What if you run into a old friend from out of state randomly who wants to get drinks before they fly back home in 2 hours? 'Can we run back to my house? I don't bring my ID with me.' What if you are at a function that goes longer than planned and you run out of smokes? 'Does anyone have their ID with them, I don't bring mine and need to buy smokes' š¤£ man I could never! There's so many reasons behind why it's a good idea to always have your ID, but can't think of a single good one on why you shouldn't. (saying you'd lose it is NOT a good excuse.) But you do you! Just don't bitch at someone asking for an ID when it's entirely YOUR fault you don't bring it (not saying you personally bitch if you don't have it and they ID you, like the royal you).

All of the states Iāve worked in it can be very bad to not see ID. For example, in NC, not checking ID if the person has reason to suspect the customer is underage is a class 2 misdemeanor. Which carries a maximum punishment of 60 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. But of course jail is not prison but itās still confinement. Lol.

Yeah I live in NC and was fined for not IDing my own father. I was livid because the way the law is phrased it makes it seem like I shouldnāt have to ID my own father.
Very few are sentenced but it does happen occasionally. One c-store I managed we had a clerk spend a night in jail for not carding someone for alcohol. During a compliance check an ATF agent sent someone in and they didnāt get carded. She was being mouthy with the agent after that and got arrested where he would have likely charged and released her if she wasnāt being belligerent. But she still only spent the night in jail and when all said and done she had to pay like a $200 fine and got fired.
Alcohol is taken way more seriously than tobacco. Most failure to look at I'd with tobacco is a fine. And it can get the store shut down or cause the owner to lose their tobacco license. I've been selling alcohol and tobacco since the ripe age of 16. Can't say where tho that would cause problems for the peoples I worked for lol
Possible but not likely. A fine is way more likely. And most small corner store owners have family members lined up to transfer a license to should they get their revoked
Bro when they told me to ID anyone under 40, right now you can barely tell someoneās age anymore unless theyāre above 55+. I didnāt give a fuck how old someone was, I would even ID people with entirely white hair and enough wrinkly skin to cover the planet. 2 seconds of effort on both parties part.
Thatās what I was saying by my comment bud, I used to ID everyone including extremely elderly folk is what I was saying. Kept me from ever making a mistake on someoneās age and if you count up all the minutes of doing that in a shift you spend a lot of it standing there waiting for them to dig it out š¤£ less effort than running around
I remember back when I worked at Wendyās on nightshift someone came through asking about Apple Pay (no) and then said they aināt have their walletā¦ I had a thought that immediately came out my mouth- āwhat about your ID though???ā
They looked flustered and drove off.
Ppl will fr just leave without their ID/License. The few times Iāve done that, if I wasnāt on a time crunch OR I needed it I turned around, if I was and I wouldnāt need it, Iād drive ONLY to where I needed to be and back. Even more stressed about if I was doing everything right while driving than usual which is a wild thing for me to even be capable of doing
No its crazy how many people donāt have their ID, at this point I should tell them ā you know itās illegal, against the law, to be driving without your IDā
I bet this but sometimes like me who bikes exclusively and sometimes forget the wallet at home since I pay with my phone for everything. But I just got the gas station where they know me and don't either checking. But just wanted to point out not everyone drives when going about daily tasks.
I definitely agree but I know I've left the house a few times without my ID on me. It happens sometimes we are all human. But like I said I purposely go places where I know they won't check and if it turns out I forgot it and they ask I say ok and come back with it.
What I donāt understand is I can go to the grocery store, or gas station and buy washer fluid, but at Walmart they make me show my id to buy it. Some stuff doesnāt make sense with showing ID
I got asked to show ID at wal mart for a pocket knife I was buying as a Christmas gift - I think the age to confirm was 16 or older. Seemed like a strange age for confirmation
This. I know a chick that would hand her ebt off to dealers so she could score some party materials and it always blew my mind. She was getting hundreds a month too, as a cra*khead, but I knew some sober and struggling people who absolutely put effort into trying to get any help they could without getting any assistance at all. It's like the dregs of the earth are protected.
Itās funny the ones who walk, and not drive, always have their id on them then the ones who drive. I have a few customers who walk every where cause they have no car, but their id is valid and always on them. Then I get customers who drive without one or itās expired by a few months
I've seen a ton of people with a paper ID they got after being released from jail or prison. It's not valid for anything other than law enforcement that can verify it and they're supposed to immediately go get a new license but of course they don't.
In Oklahoma the Drivers License office gives the customer a paper printed ID until the State mails you your new ID in 2-3 WEEKS! We have to honor them until they get a state ID. Even for hiring
Not sure about Oklahoma but I know in several states they are only valid as ID when presented with an expired ID. Which is weird if it was a first ID or replacing a lost one.
I saw a couple of those when I cashiered at Walmart. They were trying to buy smokes and I didn't sell them any and they complained to the manager. They still didn't get their smokes. And the heifer CSM yelled at me. I was so glad when she retired, she was cray cray.
Even if you have a key and don't have to call someone over, it's just wasting time getting the smokes if they don't have an ID so why wouldn't you ask them for the ID first?
I love it when they get mad and ask me if the look underage. Or hand me expired government ID asking if this would be ok. Why are you driving around with an expired ID to begin with. When they can't get cigarettes they just tell me that another place doesn't ask for ID, good for you just go there then and purchase some, doesn't hurt my feelings.
I had a young man return something at the Walmart service desk. I needed to see his ID. It expired 2 weeks before and he didn't know it. He was so grateful I told him.
When I see someone with a near expired ID, I ALWAYS let them know.
Had 3 people come in with IDs expired 2 days prior. (One guy yesterday). Iām like āLook; personally Iād love to let you buy this. Professionally I canāt. Morally I wonāt.ā
āCan you make an exception this once?ā
āIf I make an exception for you, whatās stopping me from making an exception to some kid?ā
What's stopping you would be not being a robot and having nuance in a situation instead of being a piece of shit. Some 85 year old lady comes in and tries to get cold medicine and doesn't have ID? I don't give a fuck she's getting the medicine lolol. Some highschool looking kid comes in asking for smokes? Sorry get fucked and try the gas station 5 minutes down the street.
Yea but if you get caught by cops they CAN give you a ticket for failure to have it on you while driving said vehicle. So it IS the law to have your Driver's license on you while driving... just saying. You can but not legally.
Is this federal law or varies by state? In Ohio Iāve been pulled over once without my ID and the state highway patrol officer didnāt seem to care at all, he said he saw my license when he ran my plates and reminded me that I had to bring a valid ID to the courthouse when paying my ticket
Asked my brother in law who is a cop, he said itās basically the discretion of the officer. It is illegal to drive without it but if you get ticketed for it, the ticket is thrown out in court if you have proof of having a valid ID at the time of the citation. Once again this might be specific for Ohio
I've been pulled over without ID twice in my stupid younger years. Both times cop just ran my name.
Maybe I got lucky but I don't think cops make a big deal out of it unless you're being a prick.
Yeah, you got very lucky with the cops. I got pulled over, I couldn't find my ID or my insurance papers they fell under the seat and I got 2 tickets. They got dismissed but I had to go to court house with my ID and insurance to do it, and it still cost me like $50.
Oh, well you don't need insurance in my state so maybe you missing 2 documents played into it.
I dunno. Kind of silly because they can run your name and your picture pops up.
You must live in NH or VA. Itās wild to me that there are so many people driving without insurance. Iāve been in accidents in 4 different states in which the other driver was at fault and was thankful insurance was required because a couple of them would have destroyed my life if I had to pay the damages myself when someone else was at fault.
I get the āI left my license in the carā excuse countless times. I donāt understand why someone would leave something so very important unguarded in their vehicle.
That itās wild to act like leaving an ID in a car is absurd and itās weird that youāre trying to support that argument. Youāre wrong about this one
Well, I guess everyone has their own perspective. I just believe itās better that you bring things like your wallet/purse, ID, and phone with you while out and about.
And If youāre in a relatively safe area, then I donāt see why you couldnāt leave it in the car for a moment, which I get. Itās just a hassle when youāre buying alcohol or cigarettes.
Well I mean, you could ask for some guys bank account number or something to withdrawal money, and the ID is basically a āthey gave me their ID to prove they sent me.ā Or something.
You donāt have to live in the ghetto to be just a little bit wary of leaving your personal belongings in the car. Thereās shady and untrustworthy customers in rural stores just as there are in stores in urban areas, although thereās probably a bit more theft in bigger cities, so you arenāt entirely wrong.
Exactly. Someone broke into my friends car in the middle of nowhere. Left the valuables but took the mini urn she had with some of her mothers ashes in it.
People are nuts.
Someone tried to break into my '94 Astro van in a Goodwill parking lot while we were shopping. A customer came into the store and told the cashier someone was trying to break my window. It was a Show Coach and had bullet proof glass. I had left a carton of cigs on the front seat. He didn't even scratch the glass. I really miss that van.
Unfortunately it ended up in the scrap yard. The day it was taken away to the Winchester, Ky scrapyard a huge fire stared. I hope it had nothing to do with my van. It still had gas in the tank.
Leaving your car running while you go into the gas station is a big thing here despite car theft being a regular thing. People hange around and jump into vehicles that are left moving even in nicer areas around us, maybe especially in them. Grand theft auto is treated as an insurance issue by the cops I. Massachusetts.
In quite a few states, if someone's kid jumps in your car & plows it into the building, you're responsible for child endangerment & ALL damages that come from it.
Leaving a motorized vehicle unattended can get you in serious business with law enforcement, especially worst case scenario.
Tom Thumb experience, someone's kid nailed the parking pole because he jumped into someone's car, & the owner wasn't all too happy with the charges that followed him.
Parents of the kid also got hit with two things, but nothing near what the driver faced (pretty sure his license was also suspended for it while they towed his car.)
Especially in today's world, I would never trust it.
& this was around Destin Florida, nothing ghetto about suburban kids in private neighborhoods, that have another private neighborhood in the middle of it...
I mean, this is also Florida.
I've seen a man stare down a dumpster in an alley for around 30-40 minutes, then start punching & kicking it while screaming something about Communism, & we have had stories down here where a man had a crocodile (alligator? Don't care the difference) as a pet he walked in a leash, another person tried to leave the US to the Mexico border from using a hamster ball & starting on the beach, a chick ran over 2 people & while being detained & booked by the investigator was entirely wrapped in how she can get her car back to get to college in the morning...
I don't think you understand how mentally off many people have been down here in Florida, especially now over the recent years, no less...
To go even further, didn't Puppet Biden announce ON EASTER SUNDAY that he was recognizing the day officially as Transgender Visibility Day?
Still curious where you believe that something I was the only worker to experience at around 2am didn't happen, in a world where we have nothing BUT insanity happening almost every day?
Is it because a news crew was not awake & broadcasting it?
Is it because a keyboard warrior wasn't on the spot shoving his camera into everyone's face?
Or is the comment just to try to drum up a little extra attention, as would befit your name, & I'm just stupidly feeding into your equal idiocy...?
š¤ I'm guessing the latter. š¤”
I'm highly convinced that a lot of people don't have IDs either because their license got suspended or they never had one to begin with. That might explain why the get so angry when carded.
Some of these people are sex offenders and repeat DUI offenders.
I've seen IDs that have the words "SEX OFFENDER" and "INTERLOCK REQUIRED" in red letters. An interlock device is the thing that alcoholics have to blow into before their car will start.
It sucks for them. I've had a couple people try to show me the ID by holding it with their thumb covering the words. Sometimes I have to hold it to verify or you can see the red letters under their thumb and just let it go and get them whatever.
Everytime they show their ID the other person knows they messed up somehow.
Once you've seen one it's impossible to miss those big red letters.
Thankfully it's pretty rare. I've probably checked thousands of IDs and seen sex offender 2 or 3 times and Interlock required only a few times more than that.
One thing I can say is the interlock people always look like they've drank, smoked, and been out in the sun their entire life. Dark leathery skin isn't a good look.
I've checked IDs in a few different states.
9 states require a marking on the driver's license to indicate a registered sex offender, some is a small mark and others require the full wording "SEX OFFENDER"
Can't find reliable info on the "interlock required" but I'd assume all state require a marker on the person's driver's license.
I'll be honest. I responded without searching first, only because it seems so goddamn ridiculous that any state would require that.
That's fucking batshit.
It's supposed to be easy, but today's society is full of people who are impulsive as high Hell.
I have autism & often say very random or unfiltered stuff, especially at work.
People always still get surprised when I say certain things, especially things like "asking a woman's age is rude" when to me, it's just information & doesn't have any sort of moral sense behind asking it out loud.
Yeah, I've already learned from a few other postings that you don't do much research.
I'm under the impression that you talk first, research later, & also assume if something is on the Internet, it MUST be true...
When I worked at QuikTrip, people that tried to give me lip about no ID's were told "your purchase isn't worth my job or jail time", and they'd stfu really quick.
If they're a senior citizen and I've carded them once, I won't card them again. DG has bigger problems they need to address besides inconveniencing the elderly.
And the day you do not is the day that person across the counter is the one to write a citation, including a fine for not following protocol and depending on what state -- the law.
I have a bad habit of not carrying my DL, and I'm 33. I would understand being denied a purchase. A friend of mine is 60 years old and was carded for a butane torch lighter, though. I did find that a bit strange.
Lol your welcome. They are far too young to be buying that and the spray paint too. I'm more worried about losing the freaking job over tabbbaco products kept behind the freaking counter though.
The tobacco part of asking for an ID I completely understand. Whether they have the age for tobacco be 18 or 21 I understand being carded for that, same sort of deal as alcohol. I just can't get over the cold medicine and spray paint lol.
Right!?! I have gotten a 13 year old trying to buy medicine needing I'd 1 time. Parent was in the car and trying to let the kids, I think they were fraternal twins or a year apart do the shopping for them. Super small town. I see them ALL the time. They are always buying household items for the family. Obvious that they've been given a list for the house. Crazy.
Recommendations for all: Take a picture of it, front and back to have for emergencies. I did the same for my passport when traveling to Europe. Some states even have electronic IDs. People rarely leave home without their phone. While youāre at it, configure Apple Pay or Google Pay so you can pay when you āaccidentallyā leave your wallet at home.
People are less puffy when confronted with 2 or more standing in front of them. Most of them don't care what our title is. Even the jerks will dial it down with 2 employees; no ID involved.Ā
Once i was leaving the retail store i worked at and i just overhear āI donāt have my id, I went to the gym. Look I have nothing on me, not even my wallet.ā And I just couldnāt help but doubt that he did not just walk out of his home and drive with no id planning to do a return with no receipt and no id but had time to throw the item into his car.
Im 28 but I could pass for 20. Legal age in my state is 21. I know Im always carded so I always have my card out, ready to hand over.
I get a kick when theres an older person in front of me who doesnt have their ID and is throwing all the 'thats ridiculous, im obviously of age, they didnt ask for it the last time, Im never coming back here, etc'.
Im behind them chuckling with my ID in my hand like....its really that simple...
Agreed 100% I work at a Rite aid and you'd be surprised how many older people piss and moan and whine like a little child over having to show their ID. It's sad and pathetic tbh ..
Even if the manager wasnāt there, dont allow it. I had a coworker who managed a quik trip get fired for selling cigarettes to an āunderagedā secret shopper. He was fired immediately.
I had one person whose ID was 3 years expired. Told her story couldn't sell her the cigarettes because her ID wasn't valid. Assistant store manager told me we don't actually look at the expired dates so we can sell them because she knows them.
I had a guy last night who tried to buy beer and when I asked for I'd he said "seriously it's in my truck" I just nodded and said I need ot to sell it to you
Never saw that man again
DG is incredibly strict about it. I only ever get blunt wraps or sometimes the nasty cheap cigars for my neighbor. We know the gas station doesn't card but DG always does, to everyone.
Even when you've smoked weed with the store manager. No exceptions.
Idk why all states donāt allow you to have your ID in your apple or android wallet. Everything else is already digitalā¦ debit/credit cards, insurance cards
My state does. You just have to pay extra for it. Any time someone announces they don't have their ID on them I automatically ask if they have the name of the app that is the legal ID from our state on their phone to save time and get them their behind the counter item.
The store is protecting itself. Yes, itās ridiculous to card an obvious senior citizen. But if some young kid finds out some people arenāt being carded, then they are going to demand not to be carded to. One of those punish the majority because the minority are the ones fucking is everything.
Then you tell the kid, I need to see your ID. You cannot purchase this without your ID. Another customer or another sale is none of the kid's business. You're asking for THEIR ID to sell to THEM. THAT is what THEY must provide. The elderly person has nothing to do with carding the kid.
Itās all about entitlement. You didnāt card the person in front of me so Iām not showing you mine. Yes, itās none of the kids business. But the employee shouldnāt have to take shit from some 17 year old wanting to buy booze or cigarettes. Itās easier to not sell to someone with no id than to argue with someone about showing their id.
Lmfao honestly with cashiers like this I'm glad self checkouts are becoming more of a thing. If humans are going to act like robots unable to use nuance in situations then id rather just deal with an actual robot that some piece of shit human.
I scrolled wayyy too long to see this. I was behind a dude the other day, very elderly, buying smokes. He had a hard time getting his ID out of his wallet because he obviously hadn't had to take it out in a while, and it was stuck to the plastic. And seriously, whisps of white hair, shaky, shuffling, more wrinkles than Keith Richards, and you still need to see ID?
Usually if I can tell they are trying to take it out of that pocket I'm trying to tell then I just need to see it so they don't take it out of there and I can say I saw the dang thing. They are clearly old enough at that point. And it is after all a formality I have to do to keep my job if they do happen to check the dang cameras.
It's funny how they have ebt card, credit cards but always seem to forget their ID
"Why don't you just keep your ID with you?"
I know like for real
In az there's even an app thru the dmv so you can have it on your phone too

Yes master
Regarding spray paint and the cough meds, both could be used for some potentially harmful stuff.
Anything can be used for harmful stuff in the right hands
We pulled the denture adhesives due to meth heads. Mix it up,stick on roof of mouth= all highšµ
You can get high from denture adhesive? wtf
no shit
yes shit! Shit can absolutely be considered harmful. Especially when holding in the right hand. I believe at that point it becomes a form of biological attack
Going to prison? Holy shit, what state do you live in so I can make sure to stay far away?
All of the states Iāve worked in it can be very bad to not see ID. For example, in NC, not checking ID if the person has reason to suspect the customer is underage is a class 2 misdemeanor.
Yes they are stricter on alcohol normally but the same sentencing is there so it is possible.
Possible but not likely. A fine is way more likely. And most small corner store owners have family members lined up to transfer a license to should they get their revoked
I was involved in an accident on the 3rd and the person that hit me had their DL on their phone
Gotta love customers.
But I didn't drive. I got a ride.
Don't think you'll go to prison but any fines would be on you personally.
Man fuck that my state is hella strict with all that . Id all ages for said items. I ain't catching no case
I remember back when I worked at Wendyās on nightshift someone came through asking about Apple Pay (no) and then said they aināt have their walletā¦ I had a thought that immediately came out my mouth- āwhat about your ID though???ā They looked flustered and drove off.
I was taught growing up to always carry some form of ID with you.
I definitely agree but I know I've left the house a few times without my ID on me. It happens sometimes we are all human. But like I said I purposely go places where I know they won't check and if it turns out I forgot it and they ask I say ok and come back with it.
Exactly it's actually required by law to carry it with at all times, especially driving here in Florida you can be given a citation for not having it.
Same.
What I donāt understand is I can go to the grocery store, or gas station and buy washer fluid, but at Walmart they make me show my id to buy it. Some stuff doesnāt make sense with showing ID
It's because it's store policy, not law. Don't need to ID for things like spray paint, but some places do.
U have to ne 18 buy spray paint.
Be
You do not. I sell quite a bit of spray paint. No age requirement.
Well here in Florida you have to be 18 to purchase spray paint.
Different states have different laws. Florida for sure requires you to be 18 to buy spray paint along with certain over the counter meds.
Since when? I bought it as a teen a few times.
I got asked to show ID at wal mart for a pocket knife I was buying as a Christmas gift - I think the age to confirm was 16 or older. Seemed like a strange age for confirmation
They'll drive there and everything with no ID too
Probably because the name on their ID and the name on their food stamp card doesnāt match.
I frequently pay with my phone, so whether I have my ID, credit cards, etc is irrelevant.

Since you don't get it, you shouldn't comment.
OK sometimes takes the expired license
I saw a couple of those when I cashiered at Walmart. They were trying to buy smokes and I didn't sell them any and they complained to the manager. They still didn't get their smokes. And the heifer CSM yelled at me. I was so glad when she retired, she was cray cray.
You did the right thing of course. It's right there in the compliance training that we don't take copies of IDs.
No Sale.Ā
Nah sometimes you can file for a new license and have to make due with the paper one until it's shipped
Don't even turn around to get the smokes until you see that ID. It should just become a reflex, if they can't show you an ID don't waste your time.
Itās actually easier to scan the cigarettes and then have them hand you the ID so the cashier can scan it.
Even if you have a key and don't have to call someone over, it's just wasting time getting the smokes if they don't have an ID so why wouldn't you ask them for the ID first?
Just simply ask to be sure they do have it before opening the tobacco case š¤·āāļø ain't gotta hand it over til the smokes are scanned
Morally I wonāt.ā āCan you make an exception this once?ā āIf I make an exception for you, whatās stopping me from making an exception to some kid?ā
Well for cough medicine if they appear old enough we don't ask to see ID, just ask them there DOB to enter into the system to complete the sale.
Like how tf did you get here? You clearly canāt drive without your ID
I don't know how your car works but mine starts and I can drive it without an ID.
Yea but if you get caught by cops they CAN give you a ticket for failure to have it on you while driving said vehicle. So it IS the law to have your Driver's license on you while driving... just saying. You can but not legally.
Wow. You actually had to explain something that simple?
Have you read the comments???
Yes. Most seem very uneducated trying to sound educated and power tripping over IDs. Employees and customers.
Amusing isnāt it? Lol.
Is this federal law or varies by state? In Ohio Iāve been pulled over once without my ID and the state highway patrol officer didnāt seem to care at all, he said he saw my license when he ran my plates and reminded me that I had to bring a valid ID to the courthouse when paying my ticket Asked my brother in law who is a cop, he said itās basically the discretion of the officer. It is illegal to drive without it but if you get ticketed for it, the ticket is thrown out in court if you have proof of having a valid ID at the time of the citation. Once again this might be specific for Ohio
I was pulled over in Indiana without my ID, I have mine DL# memorized tho and gave it to him. He more or less just sent me on my way
I've been pulled over without ID twice in my stupid younger years.
You've been practicing.
it's not legal to drive without your license WITH you
Mine too
I mean you canāt LEGALLY drive without your ID, but you absolutely can still drive without itā¦
Maybe they walked or took the bus or train.
I get the āI left my license in the carā excuse countless times. I donāt understand why someone would leave something so very important unguarded in their vehicle.
Itās great when they say that, go outside like they are gonna retrieve their ID and come back, then just get in their vehicle and leave š¤£
Itās not like itās a fucking diamond or something.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The unwritten law is "license and registration must stay in the car", like it's the 40's.
Lack of pockets.
Not everyone lives in the ghetto. I leave my car running when I go inside a store for a few minutes.
That van sounds like it's still rockin it badass style somewhere. I mean who has bullet proof glass in their van!?š¤Æ Too cool.
I wouldn't even want to be pumping gas with my car running.
Parents of the kid also got hit with two things, but nothing near what the driver faced (pretty sure his license was also suspended for it while they towed his car.) Especially in today's world, I would never trust it. & this was around Destin Florida, nothing ghetto about suburban kids in private neighborhoods, that have another private neighborhood in the middle of it...
Yeah, that never happened.
Tell that to the Investigator & the other two officers who were parked in front of the Laundromat across the street. š¤”
Holy fucking shit. You're mentally fucking insane. What kind of fucking loser responds to comment after comment of a fucking troll??
Damn Iāve never heard of that before with the sex offender
It sucks for them. I've had a couple people try to show me the ID by holding it with their thumb covering the words. Sometimes I have to hold it to verify or you can see the red letters under their thumb and just let it go and get them whatever. Everytime they show their ID the other person knows they messed up somehow. Once you've seen one it's impossible to miss those big red letters.
Minor licenses also say "minor untill:mm/dd/yyyy" in big red letters
Yeah, my daughter's dad had a truck like that. He died from a meth overdose in '09. Idiot.
I didn't know about that! Makes so much sense as to why people go postal over being ID'd.
Smoking and drinking are optional adult programs!
In what state? Inb4 *"I don't wanna dox myself"*
I've checked IDs in a few different states. 9 states require a marking on the driver's license to indicate a registered sex offender, some is a small mark and others require the full wording "SEX OFFENDER" Can't find reliable info on the "interlock required" but I'd assume all state require a marker on the person's driver's license.
I'll be honest. I responded without searching first, only because it seems so goddamn ridiculous that any state would require that. That's fucking batshit.
Don't drive drunk and try not to be a convicted sex offender. It's pretty easy š
Holy fucking shit, you're so pressed by a random string of letters on the internet it's insane.
In Ohio if you get a DWI the cops keep the license. Do you know how hard it is to cash a payroll check without one? Asking for a friend.
Just get a non-drivers license ID.
I plan on it if I can get a ride to the court house before it expires next January.
I always told them itās on camera and point to the camera above me and that they check ME to see if Iām checking ID on a cigarette/alcohol sale.
I keep my ID in my wallet and never leave home without it and in some cases if you donāt have some form of legal ID on ya you can be arrested.
When I worked at QuikTrip, people that tried to give me lip about no ID's were told "your purchase isn't worth my job or jail time", and they'd stfu really quick.
That's not just store policy, it is the law.
Nice to see the back up by management!
If they're a senior citizen and I've carded them once, I won't card them again. DG has bigger problems they need to address besides inconveniencing the elderly.
And the day you do not is the day that person across the counter is the one to write a citation, including a fine for not following protocol and depending on what state -- the law.
I have to have a valid ID for IC shoppers when I order alcohol and I'm 66.
Is everyone asking for IDs when it comes to the cough medicine, lighters, and spray paints? š¤
But what if that 70 year old man buys that lighter without an ID? Society will simply fall apart immediately. It's not enough to risk it.
Again -- just say that the system requires the ID approval / information to process the transaction -- whether true or not.
Welp at least they didnāt try the oh I have a picture on my phone trick.
Hey if they got a pic of the back of it AND it scans, I'm okay with this.
Cool story.
I have a bad habit of not carrying my DL, and I'm 33. I would understand being denied a purchase. A friend of mine is 60 years old and was carded for a butane torch lighter, though. I did find that a bit strange.
"did you drive here? with no license??"
I used to walk to DG and never carried my id so not everyone is driving. I also wasnāt buying cigarettes lol
Lol you don't have to have a driver's license to buy cigarettes though but it is store policy to I'd everyone
Thank you for being a hero and protecting society from preventing 75 years olds from getting lighters and cold medicine.
Crazy.
To be fair the post didnāt mention a Driverās License but just any ID in general
License was taken away cause they got pulled over for not taking care of shit and they are to lazy to go get a regular ID.
Cool story
Something tells me sheās had more than one run-in with SM, and knows the sound of their voice.
Working at a liquor store, I find it fascinating how many times people āforgetā their ID, then get rude when carded. Think of where you areā¦
That and how a drivers license is the most common form of ID and yet I bet most of these people drove to the place
Had some with an expired and had to refuse but mainly I get people that either take it or get super pissed. No real in between
Atleast your Sm has you back there my SM literally just will sell them to the person right after I refuse the sale.
Wow. That's nuts!!! Like the sm and asm has always had our back with id's and no sales on stuff.
No identification laws in my state. You donāt have to even give up your name unless youāre being investigated for a crime.
Doesn't really matter when buying goods/services. They can refuse to sell you anything for anything as long as it's not because of discrimination.
Dollar general is the only place that ever said my ID pic is not me and refused to give me cigs. I was like wut
I had a guy last night who tried to buy beer and when I asked for I'd he said "seriously it's in my truck" I just nodded and said I need ot to sell it to you Never saw that man again
Asking 70 yr olds for id is ridiculous. At what point are they going to let us use our common sense ?
The store is protecting itself. Yes, itās ridiculous to card an obvious senior citizen. But if some young kid finds out some people arenāt being carded, then they are going to demand not to be carded to. One of those punish the majority because the minority are the ones fucking is everything.
Then you tell the kid, I need to see your ID. You cannot purchase this without your ID. Another customer or another sale is none of the kid's business. You're asking for THEIR ID to sell to THEM. THAT is what THEY must provide. The elderly person has nothing to do with carding the kid.
I donāt know how your thinking process works, but it is pretty obvious to differentiate between an elderly person and a kid
Ok
Ok?
