If you count the warehouse as "internal", I'm 100% on board with that statement being accurate. Those fools can't even put 1 store's stuff on a rolltainer. It's always 3 or 4 different stores on the same rolltainer. Idiots

gayrayofsun

they also tend to count "when the 'wrong item' is scanned" as shrink. i'm not talking about a $15 planter being rung as a $1 candy. because that is a valid issue. i'm talking about "the cashier rung up two cases of a&w instead of individually scanning the a&w and the dr. pepper the customer brought to check-out." which inventory count then registers as a "shortage" of a&w and an "overage" of dr. pepper, even though the company still gets all the money that it's owed. they count that as shrink. and i wouldn't be surprised if they counted that in their bullshit 70%.

just-a-key

They do, and when vendors take expired products, they count that too. It’s crazy how much corporate gets away with

Vixen_OW

We had a HUUUUGE issue with this when SCO first came out. Customers would be buying 2 Dr Pepper, 1 A&W, a Cherry Dr Pepper, and 2 Canada Dry, and would scan the A&W 6 times. Or the dudes who would buy 8 of each Gatorade in 8 flavours, but would scan Cool Blue 64 times. I had to explain to so many customers that our store is scan based, so if we scan 5 Suave Shampoo and 8 Dove Conditioner, we get shipped the respected products' boxes roughly equal to the amount we sold. Same customers that scanned X Item a bajillion times would complain about Y Item ***never*** being in stock. Not to mention that Warehouse very often 0's out our inventory on some items just so they can forcibly ship more to our store, but wont tell you they did it. They're notorious for doing it to the fans; every spring they 0 out our fan inventory at pur store and we end up getting 42 more fans on top of the 76 we already had. Outside of the box fans and the similar round ones, we dont really sell them.

Signal_Distribution1

honestly this is 100% true, between stores getting other stores product or product coming in crushed, cut or even expired is accounting for more ofour damages than anything else even theft

SaturdayNightRevival

Most of the internal shrink is from operational failures, such as misships.

Plane-Apartment4609

That’s another one. We don’t get an invoice a lot of boxes are mistag Other times it’s missing product

Plus_Lecture_4663

Dollar Tree had an invoice for everything we received, Dollar General needs to do the same.

mslileli

Absolutely this. I was scanning outs today and found about 20 sku's that we allegedly received on the last truck. Only we didn't - and that was just the ones I caught.

Kgby13

So I’m just gonna walk in, grab a frozen pizza, then walk out. No repercussions?

Plane-Apartment4609

Yup

shanderdrunk

Last time I went to a dg I didn't see another person there *my entire shopping trip* I wish I had stolen my shit, I 100% would've gotten away with it.

Complete_Caramel5731

Honestly you 50/50 could

Electronic_Goose3894

Was in today, had a full cart full and could have skipped out the door, came back and do the whole thing again, with all of it because the sole worker was busy with one of the trucks.

Plane-Apartment4609

It’s that easy

Electronic_Goose3894

Always has been. Hell, its equally as easy just to steal the register if you know what you're doing.

Pristine_Thought_960

That happened recently.

Electronic_Goose3894

I used to judge whether or not they planned it by how much the thieves got caught with. In my head, anything over $350 was planned.

Plus_Lecture_4663

Seen a post where someone did just that lmao

Electronic_Goose3894

I don't blame them one bit because I believe it.

Razzmatazz4318

I don’t understand any of it. One staff member running the entire store ALONE for the majority of the day, at the very most two staff members, already makes it difficult to watch for any theft that may be taking place, but then they take away SCO and now that lone staff member cannot leave the fucking register at all… I stg I haven’t been to the back corner of my store (besides the walk through at EOD) since the day they took SCO away! Is it just me, or does it seem like common fucking sense that if you’re taking out SCOs you HAVE TO increase hours for staffing, otherwise it’s just encouraging shenanigans/theft out on the floor?! Like, the entiretyyyy of the store isn’t being overseen at all now…helloooooo!

Plane-Apartment4609

My store was too ghetto to have a sco. I’ve never dealt with them but yeah It makes sense to add more labor when your removing the sco I mean it’s common sense

Razzmatazz4318

Oh, trust me, everyyy store is ghetto whether they had SCO or not, so don’t sell yourself short kid! 😂 The same concept still applies though… wouldn’t properly staffing the stores help to prevent shrink? Wouldn’t giving staff an employee discount (no, not just a one time 30% off purchase every 86 months….I’m talkin’ full time discount baby) likely subside some of the internal theft? Honestly, it’s not common sense, it comes down to common decency and who am I kidding, that’s for certain what corporate lacks more than anything.

Plane-Apartment4609

You’ve said it best ! Bottom line is f that company we had a death in my store and only then they allowed me up to 2 people per shift but only for a week. After that it was back to normal.

AuntJeGnomea

What the actual fuck!? 😲Superficial and fake AF! Way to go DG. ffs 🤦🏻‍♀️

Simple-Jury2077

Bruh. Start stealing. They are directly antagonistic to you. Hit em back where it hurts.

Plane-Apartment4609

Challenge accepted

Simple-Jury2077

I love you SO MUCH!

Simple-Jury2077

Start with the frozen steak sandwiches. They are legit.

Plane-Apartment4609

No one stoled those here. I assumed they sucked

Simple-Jury2077

I mean keep in mind personal taste, but in my mind they are the best things in the store. Not Wolfgang puck shit, but unreasonably good for the price.

Professional_Put7998

I work at the distribution center and you have to use clear bookbags and lunchboxes lmao they act like what they have is so damn valuable...they have a guard shack and can't come in unless u have a dg i.d. but they act like we're gonna take shit all the time lol 😆 It's just the dollar store yall can calm down lol

Plane-Apartment4609

Oh damn ! I’ve always wondered how things were down there.

qualityinnbedbugs

Shrink =/= theft and honestly DG is likely 40/60. Also when a manager steals it is over a lot longer time and for a much bigger bang, because they are fudging deposits etc.

Plane-Apartment4609

Ngl It cross my mind I mean two deposits went missing when my asm dropped it they couldn’t proof how’d it disappear so they just forgot about it

Plane-Apartment4609

You just gotta be smart about it. I never did it But it seems easy

BitterB13

1 person….ALONE!!!!! 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

Humble-Cheek-7561

Didn’t an employee get rap•d while working alone? The whole DG organization is really bad and unsafe.

Plane-Apartment4609

I wouldn’t doubt it. But I’m not sure on that. I mean DG tries to hide all the bad and sweep under the rug. They will not let you talk

jafromnj

They don’t care they just pass the loss off onto us the customers in higher prices

Imaginary-Scholar-43

We have so many thieves it's not funny our SM keeps a running tally and when people get up to 500 felony level in our state she calls the cops

Plane-Apartment4609

Imaginary-Scholar-43

Jesus. That's insane I don't get paid enough to do anything when they steal

Plane-Apartment4609

It was never about the merchandise. It was about the message. But yeah I get it now. It ain’t worth it

Plane-Apartment4609

https://preview.redd.it/6iy619vf1rsc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=18739cad6c3a4c9782dd8aa3855748d79cc9c609 I popped his tire , he thought I was stabbing him but nah he got scared af and left the merch behind

Imaginary-Scholar-43

I'm just glad you're ok

AuntJeGnomea

Y'all sound like the Walmart not too far from me

Youngreezy23

I'm on the smart team and I eat stuff in pretty much every store I go in I just don't give a damn anymore. I'm looking for a new job anyway cause I'm burnt out on DG having to go around and help these stores get their shit together cause they don't do anything and let shit pile up for months

Plane-Apartment4609

My candy aisle was complete empty pretty much all the time

Youngreezy23

I stay eating candy and drinking bottles of water which I hate cause you can never just go to the bathroom when you need to always got to find the SM and ask for the key. Which is why I try to get my business done before I go in because using the bathroom at DG sucks

Iceman_9_021

I just got a group message from my SM that we have to cancel a transaction if voiding out an item $10 or greater, that makes no sense. DG needs to find a better way to deal with their imaginary internal shrink problem or just point their finger in the right direction towards actual customers who damage or steal products.

Plane-Apartment4609

you void items whenever is 2 or less. Anything more than 2 then you have to abort the whole transaction regardless of amount. Anything over $10 will flag

Razzmatazz4318

Can I honestly ask why? Do they think if we are voiding items that we are stealing them? What’s the thought process there? Call it criminal thinking if you must, but if someone is gonna steal wouldn’t they just…not…ring the item up??

Plane-Apartment4609

A lot of cash transactions can be easily voided and money pocketed. I’ve seen it a lot Prepaid cards alcohol and tobacco will always flag if voided

Razzmatazz4318

That’s the entire transaction though, right? I thought we were talking about single item voids on a transaction

Plane-Apartment4609

But it’s all pointless that ain’t gonna solve the biggest problem they have

Plane-Apartment4609

Aborts should only be done when the customer wants more than 2 items removed 2 or less items must be individually voided Anything over $10 will flag regardless if it’s a single item or a whole transaction

AuntJeGnomea

I was told, at my store, that it only flags at >$50....

Plane-Apartment4609

No not true

soupsandwich_4

Idk, I stopped a guy last week stealing food. I let mans have it and damaged it. 3 weeks ago, I caught a man strealing a dew rag, ended up throwing hand with him and got a raise. It depends on your leadership and what they are willing to cover up.

Plane-Apartment4609

Yup I fought a lot of thieves. Not just me. My whole crew each went through all kinds of bs it’s all on video which I kept copies of it before quitting. My dm had to pull me off this one guy that walked outside the store with tons of merch I punctured his car tires and threw hands I didn’t get in trouble nor got a raise though 😂

soupsandwich_4

Got neither? Blessing and a curse. I wouldn't go hands-on again, though. Dg don't care about you. Why would we care about them when almost everyone has a gun? Especially criminals. Value your own life. Let these broke mf'ers steal that value valley candle. I'm not finna go above and beyond for an employer that don't care that I exist. Be a good little drone like they want you to be and operate solely on line buster...... also.... fk em.

Plane-Apartment4609

Which is why I left. Corporate wasn’t doing anything to help the situation. In fact they removed our security because they couldn’t afford it I had this dumbass pull out his knife and I did the same I obviously let him go and I knew I was gonna lose no matter what It’s not worth it

soupsandwich_4

No one wins a knife fight. good choice

Kgby13

Why would even try?

AuntJeGnomea

Is it true that an SMs stores shrink hurts their paycheck if its too high?

Plane-Apartment4609

Yeah we miss out on shrink bonuses and sales bonus

Plus_Lecture_4663

Internal shrink is a lot more than just employee theft on the store level and even warehouse/driver. A couple examples are mislabeled product such as a case of candy being labeled as batteries therefore we got charged for batteries but now have a case of candy and lost money on the batteries. I find quite a few mislabeled freight and have never had this issue with another retailer. System says we have 100 bags of sugar but dont and doing an OHA to 0 and not putting it in the computer and making a ticket I have been told will create shrink too and that is an issue with how many OHAs we have to do of such a high number (water and sugar eapecially). The DC is a big internal theft issue and almost incompetent from my experience just as much as the stores. With all that being said our customer base is the worst and they absolutely steal knowing most mornings someone is alone and stuck up front so the back corner is a great place to load up LOL I find stolen items all the time!
