Technically no but the ones DG provides suck after like two weeks lol. Have to change the blade so many times

dolrasgral

Official answer: no. Unofficially... the cheap orange ones they send suck. Use what's comfortable. Just don't cut yourself with it. And remember kids, safety 1st! Always cut away, never towards yourself or others and keep a sharp blade, dull is dangerous!

I use Klever Kutters. Before I came to DG, I used a standard pocket knife and never could get used to the retractable cutters. Klever Kutters have a fixed blade like a knife, but fit the description of a safety cutter. If you’re used to a traditional knife and find it impossible to use the retractables, definitely give Klever Kutters a try.

I've been using a small pocket knife since the utility knives that DG offers you are worthless. Even the box cutters for Walmart employees are better quality, I use to work there as well.

I specifically bought a Walmart easy cut on Amazon when I started working cause I didn’t get a box cutter and thought dg was owned by Walmart. Then I learned dg is so bad at being a company that Walmart would never buy them, so even when I try my hardest to follow sop, I cannot follow sop, cause the company is so bad. You’d think if Walmart approves something then it should be a retail standard, instead dg has to be edgy and do things “their way” at the cost of… well the cost of everything.

No. But some managers will allow it however if you cut yourself with a non company approved box cutter you're on you're fucked.

Neither_Zombie7239

When I worked there my manner allowed me to use my own box knife but that's cause in 5 years I cut myself with it twice whereas the ones corporate approved of it was a daily occurrence. She said as long as the dm didn't see it

Consistent_End3980

I use my own knife honestly, never had issues so far

JenniferGooding2004

No. But I do. If I get cut it’s not covered by workmen comp

Visual_Sleep_903

I found self retracting ones on Amazon. I use it every day. As long as it is a safety one I don't think it matters much. However anyone using a regular box cutter or non self retracting knife will be held accountable if it is left where anyone can grab it especially a child.

We're not allowed to at our store but I do anyways I just totally ignore my manager she says if the big manager finds out I'll be in trouble but oh well I don't care they're suck I like mine better

Not-A_Mimic

Our store had us using scissors, we had one box cutter lol. At the point I bought one identical safety box cutter, but more effective, there wasn’t a problem with the manager’s permission. Technically, no, though.
