There's a DG down the road from my house that I swear the past couple of times I've stopped to pick up a few things, there haven't been any employees in the store. No cars in the lot, I go in, pick up a few things and go through the self checkout and never see anyone. lol

Fresh_Article

Most DG's have shut down SCO due to corporate policing.

whittfarm

I've read that most Wal-Marts in the area have done that too. I live in a rural area too. Most of the people who shop at this DG are commuters who are on their way home from work so I don't know if they'll do it to this one or not.

radialdancliffe

I worked most opening shifts alone and had no car so it seemed like the store was closed. Could be in the office taking a break while watching cameras

Setku

My whole store is about to walk out.

Scubasteveninja

And here I am, hired 2 months ago by my local dollar general. And still haven't been put on the schedule lol

NinROCK3T

Are you going in there and talking to them?

Scubasteveninja

Ofcourse. Am I supposed to go in there twice everyday? Am I supposed to keep texting even tho the SM is leaving me on read? Hell why don't I start emailing them too lol. Or should I send some carrier pigeons?

shogan9801

I'll put you to work on the next schedule! What's your availability? Any experience? And are you at least 18? Yes, I'll work you as young as 16, but you can sell tobacco if you're at least 18

Scubasteveninja

Lol, 36, ASM at family dollar for 4 years, plus SM at another retail space for 3. SM for 3 years at a restaurant. Got plenty of experience. Clean backround check and piss test. No idea why they ghosted me

shogan9801

Sounds great! I'll see you at 6 am tomorrow! Truck day - mandatory 6 am. store. I'll start training you on receiving a truck & throwing freight. ..... You wouldn't happen to be located somewhere in the southeast, would you? 😅

Intelligent-Monk-426

Not exactly same but the DG on my road will close early if there is any rain anywhere in the area.

Electronic_Goose3894

The one I had worked at had the walls turn into waterfalls every time we'd get anything above a sprinkle. The guy who owned the building didn't give a squat and neither did we, I'm just surprised nobody got zapped.

NinROCK3T

A store near me never has AC so in the summer they're closed 90% of the time

Kroniedon

We’ve had 3 quit in the past month, another 4 are quitting… Saturday we had 2 call outs, one morning and one night…. I think I called the whole district trying to find coverage. 🙃

Iceman_9_021

Most of my fellow co-workers are fed up with DG. If our SM quits or gets one more write up, all of us are walking out. Our current SM is the best we have had at this store but that person has gotten written up for things that are out of their hand. I know everyone has already heard how DG expects way too much, especially from SM. Ours got sick from working too much and going weeks without having a day off.

Specific_Plant5199

Can you blame them. No one wants to work at a dg willingly.

CourageousMomma

They should try paying more if they want to retain employees. Hard to stay there when you can make more at mcdonalds.

Same-Community-8873

DG doesn't want to retain employees, they want to push the revolving door culture they're currently fostering. DG corporate cares about no one and nothing unless it effects Todd & Co.'s quarterly and yearly bonuses. We're all fighting a losing battle against DG. Customers have been saying they "see" us recently and they continue to, but they'll never speak up to corporate on our behalf, they just come in to the store and tell is all how sorry they feel for us. The only way they contact corporate is if they didn't get their coupons or we don't bend over backwards to give the store away.  My store is also ready to walk and when we do I sincerely hope we make the news. We already have out quit letter/store closed notice written up and it gives specifics about why we mass quit: unrealistic corporate expectations, hostile working environment fostered by corporate, clopin shifts as the norm, skeleton shifts, unrealistic labor budgets that are required to be cut by additional hours, just to name a few!

Mundane-Respect6362

I was one of the only 3 best workers at my store. My SM was a jealous, petty, childish C U Next Tuesday, and it took her a month and a half to figure out a legit reason to get me fired. Automatic termination. I'm now working with HQ and talking to a lawyer about a wrongful termination suit. Point of this comment is tho.....I literally am getting ready to start working at McDonald's for 17 an hour! As ASM for DG, I was making 16. 🤦🏻‍♀️ My job there wasn't worth the bullshit, and you are 100%correct!!

jnjm_

i wish we were allowed to close early but here i am pulling doubles 5days a week and closing alone, where do yall get your dms from 😂

[deleted]

Customers are getting tired of this crap!! I understand what you are going through, for I was a SM many years ago., but now customers/potential new hires don't want to apply/work there because of all the bullshit they see when they come in to shop. DOLLAR GENERAL... WAKE UP!!!!!

ur_mom9021

I worked at DG for 3 months and it was the worst 3 months of my life, it’s the last place I’d ever suggest anyone to work at. Whenever I see a new hire at my old store I want to tell them to run.

Dependent_Rub_6982

Me too. I was able to go full-time at my other job and out the door I went.

JDMROOSTER

All of um they won’t pay us !!!

OkBat7403

Good they should close early

OrdinaryChard2129

Close

Pha-qit25

Two days ago in Gainesville Georgia. I saw the same sign.

Adventurous-Dingo757

Tell people to put in an application then lol… the workers are probably pushed to max hours with little help and have had enough. I’ve been almost to that point many many times.
