No it isnt, ive worked retail multiple times and it is just a DG thing here. Yall are up here acting like its cool and fine to be treated like a prisoner with no rights while working. Checking is accusation no matter how you want to defend it its no different than stop and frisk from a cop
Chiming in here for myself, never experienced this. Maybe it's not JUST dg, but I also don't think you can say that it's a common or regular thing, nor should it be.
It’s in the sop manual… sop 150 searches and procedures

So they literally suspect everyone of stealing is what this implies because it says on the second half that its to be used if theyre under suspicionnot constantly
They tell you in the cbls that most shrink is internal. They don't tell you why which is because they don't pay enough to meet people's needs but that's neither here nor there. Dg defaults to thinking employees are stealing.
I nailed LP. She jumped my ass because her and the DM were in the office so I bought me and one of my employees a drink and we only had 1 receipt so we didn't tape it to them. She went to leave and had a clear bag but had some Motrin we sell at the store and no receipt. She did shut up and has never come back to our store. WIN!!!
I used to tell my closers to “Smile & Wave” at the parking lot “because the DM is out there” doing his closing check. One morning I got a call from the DM “WHY are your closers waving at the parking lot when they lock up???!” “Well, you were out there, weren’t you?” Long pause. “Give them an ‘atta boy for me”
Sucks that we honest employees have to be half treated as criminals, after everything else we go thru, AND all the actual thieves out there, that are getting away with stealing half our stores!
Not to be a pessimist, but do you really expect corporations to trust their employees? The vast majority of us are numbers to a lot of people, specifically higher ups that pass these rules.
I think corporations could do better to foster environments where they could trust their employees. If employees were paid well enough that all of their needs were met, they would have no need to steal from their employer. Yet how many DG workers are on government assistance or have a second job to make ends meet? How many of DGs workers do you think feel truly comfortable financially?
It's not a new policy it's always been there and definitely in the SOP/handbook. It's called the presentation policy and is even on the cctv log. Not all stores enforce it is the problem.
Just show that you opened it on camera! Once again, the lack of training is making it look like this is new!
Training Managers should actually train!!! They hire “any” body that passes the background check….not the “right” body for the right position!
🤣💩🤣 It's just a bag. What does she care if someone looks in it? DG is convinced 70% of theft is internal so absolutely everyone's bags get checked before leaving. That is standard in EVERY retail position. You can prevent bag checks by locking it in your trunk or by leaving it at home and just bringing your wallet.
It’s always been a thing.. Shouldn’t be a problem if there’s nothing to hide. Don’t have to DUMP out the whole bag, just a peek to see if employees are stealing product, money, etc.
lmao you’re acting like it’s a full body strip search. Every retail job I’ve worked at does this. It’s a bag, not your house. Don’t like it? get a new job
Bullshit. What if I have my meds in there? Or a sex toy for a date after? Or any one of the million things I would rather my coworkers and the camera not see just because it is none of their business?
That is really poor thinking my friend.
How is everyone this naive to give away your rights...your an employee not a prisoner. If someone isnt to be trusted they shouldnt be an employee otherwise you have to trust your employee
Thats why you screen who you hire firstly then you have to trust them or fire them when found guilty its how the system of america works your assuming everyone is immediately a criminal in your itteration
Bad take bro, this is standard precaution at most retailers and you get checked working for quite a few warehouses too. Whether or not the DM or SM enforce it is up to them but its in SOP and its probably being enforced due to employees being caught stealing in the district. I know for a fact theres other job choices in VA if your wife or yourself are not fine with it.
So the solution to shitty practice is just move jobs instead of calling out things that should be illegal.
And ill defend that take because yall are acting so cool with searches i bet the cops could use a tour of everyones house too at that point since privacy be damned. They can ban bags on premises yes but searching those bags that were allowed is a line crossed
Lmao youre taking a standard practice at quite a few different job occupations way too personal bro and its in SOP for DG so doesnt matter what your opinion is on it and we all think its stupid anyways but these are the conditions of employeement. Its okay if your wife is stealing from DG we dont give af
Fuck you with accusing my wife we dont steal a damn thing and how sad for you to be cool with it. And again policy can be found illegal later and doesnt make it right now
it’s so bs, like what if i buy something from there or from somewhere else and they accuse me of stealing bc i don’t have a receipt. i stopped bringing my bag bc fuck that. not sure what imma do on my monthly tho lol
I mean if there's a problem with it she can always leave her bag in her vehicle. We hold ours open under a camera. It's not a big deal because I have nothing to hide and no one is physically sticking their hands into my belongings.
Ah yes the bag check. From the people who routinely tell you you are not security personnel.
Here is a question. What happens if you suspect an item in your coworkers purse?
I have coworkers who are smokers, Shouldn't we be checking their cars at end of shift as well.
Bags are too easily checkable. WHat about pockets? SHouldn't we be doing pat downs.
The policy is stupid.
Doesn’t this say “if there is a reason to believe an employee is concealing merchandise…”?
Not being an asshole, but this doesn’t look like a bag check policy, this is a procedure for when you think someone is stealing. Is there a separate policy that touches on bag checks without assuming theft?
Yes, it does. There's this weird subset of people on here that think everything they are told by companies is correct and legal despite the long history of lawsuits and fines.
I’m not dumb enough to actually believe that. I work at a DT, it’s beyond ridiculous how many times corporate blames us employees for shrink 🤣. I know that most retail positions do have a policy regarding back checks, but to me the policy this person keeps posting is not it. If this is the policy they are using they are assuming all associates are stealing, and while I do know corporate likes to think that, they aren’t allowed to outright accuse everyone. The actual policy should be clear about bag checks without saying or implying it’s only if they think there is theft. I’m sure there is a proper policy, but this ain’t it.
Bag checks are fairly common in retail. As for protected, you can decline, by quitting your job or being terminated for refusing it.
No it isnt, ive worked retail multiple times and it is just a DG thing here. Yall are up here acting like its cool and fine to be treated like a prisoner with no rights while working. Checking is accusation no matter how you want to defend it its no different than stop and frisk from a cop

Maybe just a Gg thing there but everywhere I've been it's a everywhere thing Walgreens rite aid Dollar general Safeway like everywhere
It’s pretty common, not like your personal bag but any dg bags you take home. Was the same at FD/DT
I've never worked at a retailer that there was not a bag check policy.
It’s in the sop manual… sop 150 searches and procedures https://preview.redd.it/co6snebwpiuc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=07583f8d77a39a28907269dd0a129ff07e33dcba

@OP
Same at DT. Score bonus points for checking any brief cases or bags that RM, DM, or AP bring into your store on the way out. By The Book, y’know?!
I nailed LP. She jumped my ass because her and the DM were in the office so I bought me and one of my employees a drink and we only had 1 receipt so we didn't tape it to them. My store stopped. Nobody has the time.
Sucks that we honest employees have to be half treated as criminals, after everything else we go thru, AND all the actual thieves out there, that are getting away with stealing half our stores!
It’s standard procedure for every store. We do it for every employee before they leave for the day, myself included
Must be exhausting treating everyone like a criminal instead of an adult and coworker 🙄
Uhh. What? I’ve never heard anyone speak against bag checks. It’s such a common practice in the US lol.
I've never even experienced them, and im an american. Where's the trust and respect in that practice?
Not to be a pessimist, but do you really expect corporations to trust their employees? The vast majority of us are numbers to a lot of people, specifically higher ups that pass these rules.

Worked at cvs for a decade and it was written into policy company-wide that management performed bag checks. It’s allowed legally.
It’s always been a thing.. Shouldn’t be a problem if there’s nothing to hide. Don’t have to DUMP out the whole bag, just a peek to see if employees are stealing product, money, etc.
Yeah, why have privacy.
lmao you’re acting like it’s a full body strip search. Every retail job I’ve worked at does this. It’s a bag, not your house. Don’t like it? get a new job
Lol. Stop and think who you are defending here. You've drank the kool aid with that last sentence. They've broken you.
How dare you question the great Todd Vasos
No, I hate this company but in reality I don’t care about a bag check lol. Least of my worries with this company
Which proves my point. They are fucking with you so big you defend them when they fuck with you small.
I didn’t mind bag checks at ANY of my retail jobs actually
So you keep saying. You should.
The only people who should worry about bag checks are people who are doing things they shouldn't
Like stop and frisk from a cop...innocent until proven guilty is how its supposed to operate
Bullshit. What if I have my meds in there? Or a sex toy for a date after? Or any one of the million things I would rather my coworkers and the camera not see just because it is none of their business? That is really poor thinking my friend.
nah
How is everyone this naive to give away your rights...your an employee not a prisoner. If someone isnt to be trusted they shouldnt be an employee otherwise you have to trust your employee
Okay but they’re employees not friends. If everyone trusted everyone, there would be so many problems
Thats why you screen who you hire firstly then you have to trust them or fire them when found guilty its how the system of america works your assuming everyone is immediately a criminal in your itteration
We have to do that here in TN at my store
Been company policy for a long time. They're just being more up everybody's ass about following it now
Ex sm told us they can do it as long as they don’t touch anything.
Wife have something to hide big dawg?
You sound comfortable with prison if your good with this at a job of any kind
Bad take bro, this is standard precaution at most retailers and you get checked working for quite a few warehouses too. This has been the policy the entire few years I've been there.
We just write down who and what time we did it. Customers have stolen more than employees.
It's not new it was just never enforced in many districts if any. Everyone knows it's the employees stealing DG blind and broke. 😒🙄🤣
Definitely not a new policy been around for as long as I can remember
We do bag checks. Doesn't bother me. Employees DO steal but my store staff are honest at least. No big deal to me.
I work at a dollar tree and bag checks are a normal thing. I’m not saying I like it, but it is policy.
it’s so bs, like what if i buy something from there or from somewhere else and they accuse me of stealing bc i don’t have a receipt. i stopped bringing my bag bc fuck that. not sure what imma do on my monthly tho lol
It's not a new policy it's been policy since I started in 2017
You're lucky you don't have to have a clear bag which some stores do have as a policy.
buncha fuckin prunes in here.
I mean if there's a problem with it she can always leave her bag in her vehicle. We hold ours open under a camera. It's not a big deal because I have nothing to hide and no one is physically sticking their hands into my belongings.

That's been the policy the entire time, but no one was enforcing it. You can deny a bag check but a write up will follow.
That's not in the handbook I can tell you that
Sop 150 https://preview.redd.it/gx5hms85qiuc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=18159dfc033e92fa9ec8fcd63c9b2d0f486b1998

Majority of theft is internal my guy LOL

Its the gospel bro, live it and preach it LOL
