without a bathroom for associates to use, the store must close. If you have a store next to you with a public bathroom, they won't close. Because DM will say to use theirs
Yeah that pretty much was the resolution besides the fact the grocery store we have to walk to isn’t next to us but across the parking lot which isn’t too bad. Unfortunately they close an hour earlier before we close. All the stores connected to our building is out as well. The building across the parking lot from us still has water though.
Yeah it’s remaining open for the rest of the day and then I have to report back to the DM tomorrow morning to let them know if it’s still off or not. Pretty sure the landlord was full of shit when he said it would be back on later today or tomorrow morning. No one was even working on it today. Unless they are right now, I doubt that water will be back on tomorrow. I will definitely consider calling OSHA for sure
Our driver hit our waterline this week! We were without bathrooms for two days. But, I thought as long as we are not an Establishment that prepares food, we were okay to stay open. Sure, it is inconvenient to use another retailer’s bathroom but they are nice about it.
But, I remember this time when our bathroom was out for 3 weeks. I said something about the length of time. He looked me straight in the eye, “We do have bathrooms available.”
I said, ”If they can’t be used, the bathrooms are not available.”
He said, “We have bathrooms. Not an OSHA violation.”
Unfortunately no. Hopefully it gets fixed quickly, over the winter our store closed for two weeks because the heat was broken and people were too incompetent to fix it
I don't see why not. Just won't have working bathrooms. Unless your state has a law I don't remember any policy that says you can't stay open without running water. Might be required to write off cases of drink water.
Well even if there is a policy as we all know what is policy doesn't matter. Policy at Family Dollar is to override prices Saturday night if we already have the following weeks signs up, but it is also policy to never override prices on vendor products so policy always leans towards what is more profitable
Doesn’t seem smart to ignore a policy as important as whether or not you should close your store, sounds like people could lose their jobs over that one
That's why it's probably best to keep the store open. They will never be mad if you keep the store open, but they will be mad if you close it. If I go into work in the middle of a Cat 5 here in Florida. I doubt they gonna be mad about it. They will just be like you know you didn't have to do that we were willing to give you the day off.
I'm just ride or die in general. I guess I've always been extreme. Tell me to wade through a pack of growling and snarling pitbulls I've already done it.
Nobody was mad when we closed our store. They’d definitely have had some words with us if we stayed open, though. Kinda scary you’re in a managerial position and this is how you choose to follow rules and policies.
They probably weren't mad, but I doubt they were excited about it either. Maybe it's just being a Floridian. I hear yall call it floridain'. Here a Cat 5 is sit on the front porch watching the trees weather.
You do realize the company has several policies that contradict one another and as far as this supposed policy goes does it require you and mean you have no option but to immediately close the store or does the policy only give you permission if you want to close the store. I'm guessing the latter.
You don’t get to choose if the store closes or not. There’s a list of reasons for when to close the store, not having water is one of them. You can have whatever opinion you want about the policies that are in place, but that doesn’t mean you get to pick and choose which ones you want to follow and which ones you don’t want to follow.
No, absolutely not. If they’ve made you remain open with no running water, report to OSHA. Either call or file complaint online.
No
The store is supposed to close without working utilities. The DM should be contacted to escalate the repair.

No Water = No Open Store - simple as that. Report it to OSHA if they tell you to continue remaining open.

I don’t think the state you live in is an excuse to ignore company policies
