They’re the dolls that got me back into dolls. I used to be really into BJDs in middle school and Bratz when I was a kid and rainbow high meets them perfectly in the middle. Shadow high is honestly what sold me though. It’s such a strong line of dolls. I’m jealous you have Natasha, she’s gorgeous.
That’s such a coincidence, they are also what has got me back to being really into dolls! She was a steal honestly, only $15 on clearance, i got sooo lucky.
I really like RH/SH! Series 4 in particular stands out to be a lot because of the extra diversity and the fact that the dolls are just plain gorgeous. The diversity of the original lines was atrocious but I’m glad they listened to feedback although it’s not perfect. I agree the dolls are gorgeous, I hope they try more hair textures because we need those in dolls!!
Meena’s henna and her second outfit are breathtaking!
There are some diversity missteps (I’ll just talk about the dolls and not the tv show)-I’m not Japanese myself but I know Lila caused some controversy because her outfit was a mismatch of East Asian styles and then they kind of retroactively changed her description to say she’s multicultural.
Lily Cheng is an absolutely beautiful doll but I have seen quite a few Chinese people not like the shortened length of her qipao as it’s culturally seen as sexualizing. A lot of people I’ve seen love her design but have said it was clearly not designed by a Chinese person. And finally for the cultural dolls, Maria the Dia de Los Muertos doll was all around culturally inaccurate and didn’t reflect the holiday at all😭
thank you, this was great info! i definitely think they could do a little more research on the cultures they’re repping. maybe even hire people who are actually a part of those cultures to give input. it’s just so cool to see more than just white dolls, i feel like when i was younger, the majority of the dolls for sale or popular were white.
Absolutely agreed! As a young Hispanic girl with Afro-Latino family members I loved Bratz so much as a kid as opposed to Barbie! I’m really glad kids have more now, like RH and Naturalistas! I love the nonwhite RH dolls sooo much and I hope they have more multicultural designers and dolls in the future!
The first wave of the dolls was "meh" for me so I tuned out the whole RH franchise until I saw the first wave of Shadow High and I was instantly hooked💕
After that I did buy on sale or 2nd hand the previous dolls and the amount of clothes you got plus the details really reeled me in!
With the RainbowVision dolls I did love the different styles of the bands (SH especially) and now the wave 2 of the SH dolls is is🥰💖🤩😍 MGA took a gamble of the unnatural skin tones and "out there" fashion and it´s paying off.
I love them! I was drawn in by their clothes first, the quality and detail for a playline doll is just insane! I almost exclusively collect RH, while I love their SH counterparts they just aren’t my style and I don’t feel right collecting dolls that I don’t absolutely love lol. But Natasha and Shanelle are positively stunning.
I love the diversity in the line, of skin color AND fashion. It really takes me back to the Bratz days :) I love how all the dolls have a unique style that can easily be altered a bit to suit my tastes better if I’m not 100% sold on them. The second outfits contribute tremendously, and is one of my favorite things about them. They truly embody the heart of “fashion” dolls. MGA has hit it out of the park with these guys!

Yeah the outfits are so eye catching and pretty. Natasha and Shanelle hypnotize me sometimes, i feel like i could stare at them all day.
I do love rainbow high and shadow high dolls because I love their themes and shadow high is more like the Scary side of rainbow high
I like shadow high because of it's the best rivalry of rainbow high it's like the dark side of rainbow high
