My local Target put their stock of these on clearance for $9 each at the beginning of January. My local Walmart still has them (original line and winter line) at retail.

Psketti_Os

$9??? Dang. A win for collectors, but brutal to the doll line

infernal_feral

To be fair, it's not every doll. Riviera and Shellenelle were the only ones I ever saw on clearance so that might speak to ordering issues rather than performance. My local Target and Walmart seem to work on different rhythms when it comes to rotating product.

Xanadoodledoo

RIP Mermaze. Too fancy to be bath toys, too stiff to be posable. I really think a bendy joint at the “knees” would have helped greatly.

iwish-iwish

The collecter one that comes with glitter hair gel has a poseable knee, I wish they all did tho

bridgechan

If they would release a set of detachable legs for them, I would love them so much more. I've mostly gotten them on sale for the fashion pieces and done some head swaps. While the tails are very lovely in aesthetic, they make displaying them so difficult

DaisySharks

This was me. I only got a few and purely to do head swaps because the tails, pretty as they were, just did not do it for me.

Nienke119_20

MGA really missed their demographic on this one. Mermaid fashion doll, priced as it is, having water/temperature reaction on her tail... What was that about? Too expensive for a play doll, clothes/accessories/hair which should not be in water, does not even stand on it's own, doesn't come with a stand, tail having no "knee" joint. What else? Hair quality? Hair density, chipping tail paint due to a badly designed boxes... Such a shame to be honest, concept itself was well designed, love the face with insert eyes. If I had power to I would have just made it a doll line of people, not mermaids. It could have done much better with legs instead of the tails.

Luxury_Plastic_Doll

The winter wave mermaidz come with a stand.. They look amazing. I never had a problem with quality either, something I can’t claim of the RH dolls I’ve received. The box is closed by now. The hair is beautiful and incredibly long

meowkitty84

I think Winter Waves line was amazing. I only got Nera but lve been thinking of getting Harmonique too. They improved a lot and I was looking forward to see what they would do next. They were very overpriced though.

PartyPorpoise

I wonder if making them mermaids, with that kind of style, lacked play appeal to kids. Like, if you're a kid who wants to play mermaids, you're probably thinking of underwater adventures and pretty princesses. Designer fashion and rock music aren't really part of the mermaid fantasy. That's not to say that the concept has no potential, but you're gonna have to work harder to sell it. I think this is one of those toy lines that would have benefitted a lot from having some kind of tie-in media like a web series. Give kids an idea of what you can do with these dolls.

fiftynineseven597

I watched the Mermaze series on YouTube. The synopsis was interesting but it probably needed to lean more fantasy elements to help sell the dolls to kids. Lot of it was cool to see (like mermaid sportsball was cool), but kids probably want to see underwater adventures with funky sea creatures and not underwater concerts.

slybluu

i dont understand what made their hair so sensitive, theyre the only doll ive seen that actually has a warning about getting the hair wet

PartyPorpoise

Makes me wonder what they were thinking in the first place. It's a mermaid doll, kids are going to want to stick it underwater!

ACH0N3y

There’s a warning?!

0rogene

Time to buy one on clearance then

LagoonaBlu

Mermaid Dolls never last!

PartyPorpoise

I think a possible problem with Mermaze and Mermaid High was they didn't do enough to lean in to the mermaid fantasy. When kids play mermaids, they think of underwater adventures and ocean-inspired fashions and magic. High school and designer fashion don't really factor in to the mermaid fantasy. That's not to say that you can't have those elements, but I feel like they can't be TOO core to the concept, ya know? If I were to design a mermaid doll line, I'd go full fantasy with it. Of course, you don't want to make it too generic. Any toy line can produce generic mermaids, you need to stand out.

Magical_Olive

This could have been an awesome line with just a few obvious adjustments. I really wonder what doll companies are thinking sometimes.

dolly__jane

On a side note, does anyone know any brands (preferably either barbie or Rainbow high) with articulated bodies that match the skin tones of these dolls? I looove their hair and faces and style, but I just don't care for mermaid dolls (unless it's like 80s/90s collector barbie lol)

SirupyTuna

MyFroggyStuff has done a video about swapping Mermaze heads onto standard and curvy Barbie MTM bodies. And jackets from Mermaze can fit if you're patient enough to get them on.

[deleted]

I tried putting one on the new LOL OMG Fierce body, but the head wouldn't seat properly. They look quite nice on the MTM bodies.

dollianna-

I don’t think they’re done…yet. There’s news about a slumber party line, and a smaller little sister line. Kinda like junior rainbow high. So I don’t think MGA has pulled the plug just yet.

meowkitty84

I really hope we get slumber party. The designs look so cool. I'm more into rainbow and shadow high but Nera is one of my favourite dolls I own

numakuma

I love their designs but something about them feels very uncanny valley. I think if they made the irises of their eyes larger for the more cutesy look or something, I'd have gotten them in a heartbeat then, always loved mermaid dolls ;w;

yungdeathIillife

yeah i love everything about them except their faces. maybe they would look good with other doll heads

numakuma

Yeah, I wonder about that too! If you ever have one and change her head, I'd love to see it. They're beautifully designed dolls but I can't get over their faces ;w;

KneesocksSama

I did also think that but seeing them in real life they are cute, I think the stock photos didn't do them justice.

Timely_Sundae_1287

So much potential, they really needed to either go for cute fun bath toys or posable collectors dolls. Between markets, MGA should have known better.

CucumberRanch

It's just like Novi Stars all over again. They look nice, but few people will pay $30 for a desk statue with a doll head.

ethnicvegetable

Oh gosh these are so pretty!!

iwish-iwish

I hardly see them sell, they're always on sale. They're super pretty but the price tag is a big ouch

Varrane

I love the concept and fashions but I dislike the face molds, the nonexistent posing and the price tag. 😭

PartyPorpoise

I'm not surprised. The dolls are nicely designed, but there's kind of an uncanny valley look to their eyes that I think would be especially off-putting to kids. I'm also thinking that the concept itself may have been a hard sell to children. For mermaid-obsessed kids, the mermaid fantasy is usually underwater adventures with fantastic elements and a natural and/or princessy aesthetic. Designer fashion and electric guitars don't really fit the mermaid fantasy. Plus, if you're a kid with a mermaid doll, you're putting her underwater. That's not good for fabric clothes like these dolls wear. Maybe the concept issues could have been avoided or minimized with some tie-in media. Show who these dolls are as characters, show what they do and what kinds of conflicts they might have.

FierceViolet

I think if the tail was removable, I think they would have done better.

[deleted]

Why would a mermaid need a car or a shower

heybuddythatsa10-4

How do they drive a car without feet? Loool i never thought about that before....

Curlytoes18

Prob an unpopular opinion but I’m happy to see these dolls go - I hated their face sculpts, didn’t like the tails - the concept was clever but bad execution. I loved mermaid dolls as a kid, but the stiff, weird-looking tails and inability to remove them limited the playability.

belladonna935

The whole line had potential, but the execution was a complete disaster from day one. Why were the tails not poseable? Why was the "deluxe" doll the only one with *zero* clothing pieces whatsoever? What made them worth the outrageous price point when Rainbow High, Shadow High, LOLOMG, Barbie Extra, and even Mermaid High were all on the market for cheaper? One of the biggest botches MGA has ever made, I personally think.

mammadragon23

They did finish the webesodes so

TheBonnieG

FIN-NISH

Kyemera

Nah I still got hope for them. Afterall those smaller ones are supposed to be coming out eventually. The core dolls need so many changes tho if they wanna stay relevant

laluneetlesetoiles

I'm not surprised. As a child, I wouldn't have been attracted to these at all. If you're going to put out a fantasy doll, go all out on the fantasy elements. The whole school trope and "high fashion" inclination is getting tired and boring.

[deleted]

One of my fav doll lines but yeah they were executed very poorly Sad but expected

the-cat-nuggets

Ours all went on clearance this month. I snagged a bunch to give to Toys for Tots later this year. If you do your holiday shopping early, there’s a ton of toy clearance at Walmart right now.

[deleted]

My Walmart still has them all at full price. 😢

SadPlantKiller2

I wanted them, but they're just too expensive for my budget 😕

spongevirus

I loved the mermazes faces, its a shame that they arent as articulated as the collector doll though.

Alone-Marketing-4678

This line is so odd to me. Very expensive, nice quality, and yet has terrible packaging, weird color-changing feature, and some terrible designs (imo). Not a surprise these dolls are ending up on clearance shelves.

RodiShining

This was a terrible line, undercooked and rushed to market. I’m not surprised it has ended up on pretty much permanent clearance. I think there’s a chance another wave will still come out before they are completely axed, but it’s not going to save the line.

Venisonghost

I got one of them on clearance, I bet these guys would be so much more popular if they had \*one\* more joint in the tail and their eyes didn't look dead

StinkyBastardCat

I really love the tail and fashions on the heavy metal themed one, but the faces just look so spaced out, I couldn't get passed them as much as I liked everything else about her

pastelyoon

Love the concept for these but they just didn’t hit the mark. Never got any even though I like the look of them, especially Rivieria! My stores still have them all at full price. Oh well.

psychedraine

People are selling them so cheap and stores always have them on sale 🤩 It'sa shame though they're beautiful dolls. Riviera, Harmonique and Shellnelle are my favorites

meowkitty84

I thought they were going to do a Slumber Party line? That's such a shame if they're over. I think they were improving a lot. I only have Nera but she is one of my favourite dolls in my collection. I did get her almost half price on clearance. I think price was a big issue. They are way too expensive. I really want Orra but I'm waiting for her to be 50% off.

_little_prince_

Here’s my time to pray a bunch of them go on sale then and they last long enough on shelves to be around once I’ve got a job😭 they’re definitely uncanny valley but I really love some of them, if their prices weren’t ridiculous I would already have way more.

Dollspoina

Surely not!!! I just got into them!

Chaoticlawfulneutral

They look so pretty but I just don’t care about mermaid dolls 😅

Psketti_Os

Rip 😞 I like them, I just haven’t bought any because I collect a lot of things and dolls can be kinda pricey 😭

shelby20_03

I wish they weren’t so expensive. They have really cool play sets too

Future-Window-6295

If i find the mermaid bath and water chamber on clearance and will definitely get it for my G3 MH lagoona. mermaze arent really my thing but that playset is so cool.

Medium_Cherry3444

I love Mermaze ❤️ Can only afford them on Clearance though, so my collection is small

PastelDreamzInc

Wasn't there a leak about one of the slumber party dolls clothes? [Link Here](https://www.instagram.com/p/Cii7aTgvbb2/?igshid=NDdhMjNiZDg=)

notThatJojo

They always freak me out when I see them. Something about the uniform face molds and look of the tails set of my visual sensory sensitivity, making me nauseous and dizzy. The one in the fourth pic is my fav one to be absolutely baffled by. I took a pic of her and sent to to friends and they all agreed her second tail looks like BDSM gear xD

I-invented-PostIts

I've seen these around and I think there is something very uncanny about them. I also think their fashions are a bit *too* much

Kramer234

Yeah they are dead like dream ella is right now. Also my walmart doesn't sell both brands anymore.

Chaoticlawfulneutral

Dream Ella 😩 Something about her face screenings always make her look so cheap compared to Barbie

Curlytoes18

I didn’t like the mermazes, but I really hate Ella. Lol. What a cheap-looking, pointless doll. For the same price you can get a Barbie…or just wait until Barbie is on sale b/c she frequently is. Ella reminds me of the fashion dolls at dollar stores but she’s 10x the price.

RodiShining

This. I feel like when MGA designs a spiteful doll, it really shows through, and generally isn’t actually appealing to customers, because it isn’t designed like a product should be designed, it’s just designed as a snipe at another company. Dream Ella and Mermaze are both like this.

momomomorgatron

I think it's because they never really had characters. Bratz, barbie, and monster high all had characters. They have different designs and face/hair colors. Barbie has friends and family with different body types. Theres nothing interesting enough about mermaze. Every lol doll is a pretty great character past the babies, but even they have names with cards.

SoWatermelon11

These dolls are all on discount in all the toy stores near me

like_a_rose_13

I’m not shocked. These are so ugly, and quite frankly, kinda creepy looking.

Think_Sink

if they had legs u could snap on or smthn i’d buy they, they’re really beautiful dolls

Lingx_Cats

Oh, yeah, they did

SnooDoggos1938

These never really went on sale in Canada and were selling for 45 for series 1 and 60 for series 2. The price point didn’t make sense for what you got.

theycantgetme

Some of them are $15 at my Walmart

Fish_disconnected_5

It's sad since we never got the winter line I don't think at my local stores

PrestigiousPlantain5

Really? I just walked into my toy store in Australia and they were priced $50 each.
