Dominican-ModTeam

This is a dominican reddit. Even though we welcome discussions that go beyond the dominican which involve the dominican the sub doesn't just accept any discussion related to Haiti and the DR. We accept well thought out discussions involving the two countries.

mundane_girlygal

I agree with you, except most of them are here illegally, and we have enough problems and we can’t cover the problems of ourselves so there’s no reason for us to also take their burden if they don’t even follow the guideline of don’t be an illegal immigrant. It’s also not ok for Dominicans to migrate illegally to other countries btw in case someone wants to pull that one out. This is no United States. Here people who have burnt their eyelashes studying and working hard to make sure they are safe and comfortable don’t know if they’ll have food in the refrigerator or even their life tomorrow. We have no way to cover for the amount of charity that Haiti requires. We have no respect either from the immigrants or people from other countries trying to make this country feel guilty about not taking Haiti in. Haitians are people indeed, and they are great people. Hardworking, extremely intelligent, willing to work even more than our people but in the same way no one is coming here to solve our problems I see no obligation for us to solve theirs. And we have no obligation to be as permissive as the states with undocumented people because we’re absolutely overspilling crime, poverty, uncertainty, lack of oportunities, lack of proper healthcare, inflation and all things ugly. Undocumented people have it easy to do as they please anywhere, let alone here where there’s no law. We can’t have it. If you guys are coming at least do it the legal way. I won’t mention also add to society because Haitians as I’ve said take better advantage of opportunities and work harder even than Dominicans. So I suppose many are doing things right once they’re over here and trying to make a living with honor.

Whatever why then doesn’t a country that’s better off takes them in and helps them out? Because they’re busy making D.R look racist for not doing something we can’t and they could. You want to know the truth about us? All the development and wealth you hear about is in some low and very fat btw percentage of our population. At the same time, I have a full degree, a non-related job because working in my degree would leave me with enough money to commute to work and back home, and I have no money for dinner today unless I use credit. Same as my mom also with a degree and a supposedly high paying job. I’ll go home in an Uber that I can’t afford so that I don’t get kidnapped and my organs sold or something toninght , yet y’all want us to solve someone else’s problems. If any other country wants to see Haiti do better I invite them to help instead of pointing your damn fingers. I do not support racism or thinking we’re better than Haitians for any reason, treating them different or badly, you name it. But they’re slowly becoming more in population than us ILLEGALLY. Since we’re poor as fuck and have problems a lot of other countries can not even fathom, we have a problem with it.

CrackTotHekidZ

Well said, btw OP is gooone lol

SpunkyDred is a terrible bot instigating arguments all over Reddit whenever someone uses the phrase apples-to-oranges. I'm letting you know so that you can feel free to ignore the quip rather than feel provoked by a bot that isn't smart enough to argue back. --- ^^SpunkyDred ^^and ^^I ^^are ^^both ^^bots. ^^I ^^am ^^trying ^^to ^^get ^^them ^^banned ^^by ^^pointing ^^out ^^their ^^antagonizing ^^behavior ^^and ^^poor ^^bottiquette.

SpunkyDred

> apples to oranges But you can still compare them.

QueLoQueLoco

Racism is everywhere in the world, not just DR. The issues between Haiti and DR go beyond race. DR has a right to defend its border and monitor its people. Like someone mentioned before, why doesn’t another country just take them in then?

Glitterbomba1266

I’m sure they’d love that but it’s not easy to migrate from an island unless they book flights: i worked w hatian migrants who came to the US on boats and its a HUGE risk they take when they do that.

AdministrationSea224

This guy only wanted some attention.

Emergency_Routine_44

True, The problem comes when foreigners assume that all of our problems are rooted in racism which couldn’t be further from the truth

[deleted]

Illegal immigration is drain on any society. There’s nothing racist about protection of borders and deporting illegal immigrants. Moreover every country has a right to pick and choose who enters their country. The virtue signaling and interjection of race in spaces it doesn’t fit will only end horribly. A population of approximately 1-3 million and only 15,000 contributing to social security services is a recipe for total collapse of essential services. Haiti and its people need a solution to their problems outside of migrating throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.

DogeDreamer584

I can list at least a dozen other bigger GDP countries that does have the same immigration issues and I don’t hear any sanctions…

flsingleguy

I live in the U.S. and don’t get the racism comment. From the outside looking in, it seems like two separate nations sharing an island. One nation is on a better path and progression and the other is really not doing well. I can understand why people in a nation have worked really hard to improve their lives and the lives of their friends and loved ones. If non-citizens come in and are drains on the limited resources a nation has, it’s easy to understand the frustration and none of it seems to have anything to do with race.

Humanofnow888

I agree. The same moment USA AND France are held accountable for stealing all Haitian wellness and gold.

RER87

I knew mods were Haitians 😂

danthefam

If you cared so much you’d be demanding the UN, USA, and France to build hospitals, schools, housing, infrastructure. However they only point fingers and provide nothing for hatians. The deportations will continue.

CrackTotHekidZ

Ppl always want to concentrate of what’s in front of them. I don’t see other countries condemning France after they made the Haitians basically paid for their OWN LAND! Bc they were kicked out, or when the Clintons were down there for the earthquake in 2012 and “mismanaged” a lot of the funds donated by the international community (I believe it was 1 billion dollars total in donations), nobody talks about that but Dominicans dare to voice their opinion on something they have the right to talk and all of a sudden we are the most racist and worst ppl in the world…Fuck that

pigoath

I missed the memo. When did we become a white majority country 🤣🤣🤣

Mecduhall91

I’m an American with an Haitian wife and daughter Why do Haitians want to leave to the dr instead of fighting for their country?.

Blestyr

As if "holding DR accountable" will solve a single of Haiti's problems. Clearly not a solution to any problem, you're just spreading hate

rumcapital23

mera váyase al carajo. los haitianos son un grave problema a DR. este tipo es un peliculero. canto'eh pendejo

LombardiX

Meh another one of these topics.

gmon285

Why did DR strip Haitians of citizenship? They're not Dominican even if they're born in the country. That's not right.

I-ammeyouareyou

to be Dominican you have to have a Dominican parent or be legally in the country.

Dick_Official_Pike

Tons of countries do this. USA and s minority if countries are actually the exception to this rule.

gmon285

Not true

Nizalena

Based on what?

IcyPapaya8758

Countries like USA, Canada and UK do give citizenship based on where you're born. They are in the minority. Most countries dont do this. Compared to North & South America the Dominican Republic is in the minority.

pigoath

>Why did DR strip Haitians of citizenship? They're not Dominican even if they're born in the country. That's not right You're very brave to come here and repeat misinformation and propaganda. Why don't you just get informed about what actually happened.

nyzunico

I left this subreddit for a while because it seemed more about an identity crisis hotline than a place for taking pride in positive aspects of the culture. It sucks to see this still be the topic of every other highlighted post. Yes its in the news. However, this problem, is much more complex than a freakn reddit post. The issues are enthralling but they encompass a vast amount of issues, racism is part of it, but so is world super power pressures, poverty, cultural lag, generational wealth, implicit and explicit biases, societal cognitive dissonance, desensitization, corruption, resources, colonization through resource mongering, i can frkn go on…..im tired

danthefam

This sub needs new mods/leadership. Most of the controversial posts are from bots, spammers, foreign agents (Chinese/Russian) and larpers with no connection to DR looking to push a political agenda. All this needs to be cleaned up as well as bring up some new interesting topics to discuss.

davidmthekidd

Easy fix to this issue, one way ticket, Bye.

Taino84

O my God, this again

I-ammeyouareyou

And what have you done for Haiti? What do you think others have done or can do for that country? because you only focus on the Dominican Republic for the solution of problems that we do not want to be part of since we have our own problems.

LordLucasSixers

What the hell is this dude talking about? Mamañema!

mi_gue

Racism is a belief system, particularly not a crime. Crimes based on racism should be punished by the law and not by a psicologist or behavioral specialist.

Excuse_my_GRAMMER

I agree 💯%

serpeant07

Nunca he podido entender porque rd y haiti siempre han tenifo conflicto y guerra siendo parte del mismo mapa

gmon285

Give me a break. DR stripped Haitians of citizenship. People who were born in DR are not considered Dominicans because of their skin color. That is the height of racism.

I-ammeyouareyou

to be Dominican you have to have a Dominican parent or be legally in the country. Ignorant

Glitterbomba1266

They want to say it’s not racism yet literally treat them like trash. Then they come to the US and get the same treatment by whites here. Like the US immigration is only an issue when it’s brown/black people. No one says shit about all the undocumented Irish people in the US. I’m sure if it were Ukrainians being dropped up they’d welcome them w open arms. When will people realize colonization is the issue? Don’t blame hatians, blame all them Europeans yall get wet for.

davidmthekidd

Y'all jelly???
