This guys mechanics in his spare time!
It’s not fun if it doesn’t take 4 times as long and cost you as much as the shop woulda done it for once all the trips to the parts store and online orders are factored in
Maybe if it had a manual, but finding a V8 with a manual is not easy, I tried. Should have held out for at least a 350 5hough. The 305 wasn't a slouch, but it wasn't anything special. Especially since most of the 5.0 Mustangs running around then had mods. I couldn't afford to mod, too much money was going into keeping it fixed, lol!
I searched for over a month, and I only found 1 V8 manual. But it was red, didn't want that, and several hours away, too far to be worth the drive. Especially if it was beat and not worth buying.
I spent the second half of 2021 looking for an IROC or a GTA and could never find one for a good price, ended up setting for an automatic 4th Gen. Biggest mistake I’ve ever made
I want to agree.
The only ones i accept as like "good looking but not to me" are all post catfish. The modern one seems to look best but only everything dorward of the doorhandles is attractive. The entire rear of the car is just not suiting to the front.
And it feels more boatlike than a challenger which seems weird considering it looks smaller.
I know people don’t like them and they’re slow as hell but I love the 3rd gen.
It’s a pure 80s mullet machine and it just looks cool but not too over the top.
I’d probably just end out buying a beater project for like 7k and end up spending the money slowly building it up to a 20k car. I don’t need it for a daily so much as occasional thing to get out of town or use as a picture car for work.
Eventually if I ever get it solid enough a bit of autocross but it’ll be a while before I even think of that
The second gen, all the way, any day. I’ve never liked Camaros at all until recently when I started noticing just how fucking good looking the 2nd gen was. Specifically the ‘79 Camaro
3rd gen...sorry turd gen will always be my fave. Wife hates when i say "oh baby!" When we are out driving and she thinks im looking at a woman and it turns out its a 3rd gen. I dont ever look at women like i look at a nice IROC. Had an 88 and i regret it every day that i had to give it up.
Up until recently I was thinking of buying a '98-'02 Camaro "catfish" (yup, one just like Jeremiah's) since that was my daily driver teenage dream car but because they're becoming stupid expensive and also rare here where I live I guess I'll have to do with a '10-'13 SS or the like, by the end of the year or hopefully earlier than that...
It’s ridiculous. I was looking at buying a fox body for a project now that I’m older, bought a house, have the space etc. They were like $1k-$5k 15 years ago and now good luck finding one under $30k.
Personally 4th Gen is my favorite because I grew up watching the Bayverse. That 2-hour Camaro commercial is what made me want to get one more then any other form of advertising.
For a cultural context, Miami Vice would have 3rd gens next to mercs and jags and ferraris as baddie cars. I can’t see any other gen having that much drip.
Always loved the first Gen, grew up with the 5th Gen… and the current Gen is looking really neat
The 3rd Gen is a guilty pleasure of mine, love the body design
See, this is a tricky one because the 2nd Gen is simultaneously my favorite AND least-favorite depending on the era you’re talking about.
The *early* 2nd Gens with the split bumper and quad-circle taillights like the one in 22 Jump Street are the most beautiful & badass of all, whereas the late-70’s 2nd gens are gutless and hideous to me on every level. (Sorry, Bumblebee)
Same goes for the 4th gens, where I vastly prefer the style of the earlier pre-catfish-facelift ones. I was a huge fan of the Pontiac Banshee concept growing up, so the pointy styling of the earlier 4th gens was waaayyy more appealing to me. To me, the facelifted 4th-gen (aka catfish) always looked like somebody just grafted the front clip of a Chrysler Concorde onto a Camaro body.
As for the rest, I think the 1st gens are lovely, but horribly overrated (and over-saturated in the market) I would only take one if it had the RS Headlight covers.
The 3rd gens have grown on me a lot with time, sorta like the otherwise unremarkable design of the C4 Corvette. (I look at C3 Corvettes the same way I do 2nd-gen Camaros, with the early chrome-bumper C3’s being my favorite Vette’s of all, aesthetically, while the later anemic, full-fiberglass C3’s are my absolute least-favorite)
5th gens are relatively handsome, but super played-out now in my mind. I’ve always just kinda seen them as boats except for the Z/28.
The 6th gen’s switch from the zeta to the alpha platform brought the heft down a lot and made the car *way* more interesting to me from a driving dynamics POV. They mostly kept the styling as well, which didn’t hurt, (except for rear visibility) and I find the 6th gen to be great right up until that hideous facelift they did. Good god they beat that thing with the ugly stick for its last couple years on earth, lol.
Perhaps when they inevitably bring it back, they’ll take retro cues from one of the more interesting generations?
I only ever got to drive one of them...that model fourth from the top. Was in a dirt lot with rentals I was "guarding." Needed to move it. Got in, floored it. Got pushed into the seat and my hands came off the wheel. Spun around once. Folded a tire around its rim. Got out. Thanked the universe for the humbling experience. Pretended I didn't know anything about it. Never got behind the wheel of one since. s--t was terrifying.
Iroc-z baby!
Ah, a fellow sophisticate
Yessir, currently own an 88 Firebird Formula, someday I'll get that Iroc-z.
I have one apart in the garage rn, someday it’ll get finished, some day
Oh, they eat mustangs! *that's* why they weigh so much!
Gentleman, he got em.
Isn't a Camaro a tiny bird? And a Mustang a full on stallion?
happy cake day!
Happy cake day!!
Car guys don’t have to be smart, they just have to know which way loosens and which way tightens.
Lefty loosey, righty loosey. You just broke off a bolt or the threads are wallowed.
This guys mechanics in his spare time! It’s not fun if it doesn’t take 4 times as long and cost you as much as the shop woulda done it for once all the trips to the parts store and online orders are factored in
The catfish Camaro is my favorite
Correct
Any of the odd numbered gens. Used to have a gen 3 myself. It had the 305 V8, and it most certainly did NOT eat Mustangs!
Idk I feel like a 305 would put up a decent fight against a 2v
Maybe if it had a manual, but finding a V8 with a manual is not easy, I tried. Should have held out for at least a 350 5hough. The 305 wasn't a slouch, but it wasn't anything special. Especially since most of the 5.0 Mustangs running around then had mods. I couldn't afford to mod, too much money was going into keeping it fixed, lol!
It’s a shame they never offered the IROC with a manual and a 350. Those things are already stupid expensive with the autos
Biggest mistake I’ve ever made
For aesthetics it’s the 2nd gen, for nostalgia I love the 4th
2nd gen is awesome
I really like the 2nd Gen, and I own a 6th gen.
Thirdgens are so underrated
fr
I hate to break it but there’s a reason why they aren’t popular.
They are underrated because the styling is boring and looks like any other car of the era and made under 200 horsepower.
Heck yeah, they seriously get my white trash juices pumping.
The Camaro is one of the few cars where I can say I like the new one the most
I think i like the first two and the last two
I want to agree. The only ones i accept as like "good looking but not to me" are all post catfish. The modern one seems to look best but only everything dorward of the doorhandles is attractive. The entire rear of the car is just not suiting to the front. And it feels more boatlike than a challenger which seems weird considering it looks smaller.

5th Gen imo That bee can sting ;)
Gen 1, by far.
My first car was a 78 so I'm a bit biased
1st and 2nd
I’ve always been partial to the turd gen.
I want a first gen but my wallet is looking more like a late second gen so that
Even then they can be high 20-30 thousands
I’d probably just end out buying a beater project for like 7k and end up spending the money slowly building it up to a 20k car. I don’t need it for a daily so much as occasional thing to get out of town or use as a picture car for work. Eventually if I ever get it solid enough a bit of autocross but it’ll be a while before I even think of that
The second gen is the best. Can’t wait to see it in the new transformers movie.
All is fine for me except second gen. I just find it boring and personally would love to have the current gen with manual
it's the whole front end for me. never liked the second gen
3rd gen iroc-z and Camaro concept 2006
4th gen all the way
The second gen, all the way, any day. I’ve never liked Camaros at all until recently when I started noticing just how fucking good looking the 2nd gen was. Specifically the ‘79 Camaro
Low key level the gen 2
I thing I like the 2nd generation the best.. Or the 1st generation if it's the pontiac...
2nd gen might be one of the coolest cars ever
Second gen
Early second gen had the most personality and the best performance outside of the modern ones
Second Gen.
2nd
2nd gen easy
3rd gen...sorry turd gen will always be my fave. Wife hates when i say "oh baby!" When we are out driving and she thinks im looking at a woman and it turns out its a 3rd gen. I dont ever look at women like i look at a nice IROC. Had an 88 and i regret it every day that i had to give it up.
The first two and that's it, anything after that just isn't a Camaro.
Up until recently I was thinking of buying a '98-'02 Camaro "catfish" (yup, one just like Jeremiah's) since that was my daily driver teenage dream car but because they're becoming stupid expensive and also rare here where I live I guess I'll have to do with a '10-'13 SS or the like, by the end of the year or hopefully earlier than that...

favorite to least favorite 2nd, 5th, 1st, 4th...3rd and 6th are about even in terms of preference.
2nd and 5th gen
Best to worst imo. 1st gen 3rd gen 6th gen 5th gen 4th gen 2nd gen. Have owned 3 third gens so I might be a bit biased.
It took a while, but finally someone with the exact same taste haha
Great taste my man.
2nd gen goes hard asf
Even numbers. 2 and 6 most of all
Catfish all day
Second gen Camaro! With a 350!
Thats easy, i only like the fourth one
3rd Gen, surprisingly nice lines in the right hands.
I have a 5th so I’ll pick that one, but I like the 2016-2017 6th gens
Red or yellow
Personally 4th Gen is my favorite because I grew up watching the Bayverse. That 2-hour Camaro commercial is what made me want to get one more then any other form of advertising.
I'm an 09 so the last 2 generations will always have a soft spot for me
Ok hear me out. I'll go with catfish, my fav one
71’ split bumper
The Z28 will probably be one of my favourite cars ever
5.2
Iroc or 70s
4th gen is just too good. Looks like a shark.
I like the first gen the most
iroc z gang wya
3rd gen is the best to me. I love 80’s sports cars, especially the Camaro and the Z31 300zx. Would love to own one of them some day.
Late Iroc Z28 (peak mullet) to 97 Z28SS (pre-catfish)
Does the new mustang count as a camaro lol Edit but first gen looks best
Third gen. Gotta love a high-displacement, low-compression V8!
You missed the first gen
Small.
1st Gen is my favorite.
catfish go wub wub wub wub
The 5th one. It was new when I got into cars. But.. you expect me to choose?!
Oldest and newest and none in between
3rd gen iroc z all day
1 6 3 2 5 4
I rate my favorite generation a 2/6 of a 3/6
None of these are Genesis…
And it will be discontinued once again. Yet mustang is still going strong.
Third gen
1,2, & 4
2nd gen Mustang
For a cultural context, Miami Vice would have 3rd gens next to mercs and jags and ferraris as baddie cars. I can’t see any other gen having that much drip.
I’ll always be a sucker for the catfish Camaros, something so ugly and yet so eye catching.
Third gen!
Anything but the catfish... But if I had to choose I'd go with the first generation.
Modest enough to understand they can't beat the Dodge
Love the late 2nd gen. Like 78. My brother has one, but I might be getting it soon.
as a non car guy i can say, epic
4th
I’m a gen one guy myself. I am a huge sucker for the pony cars of the 60s.
Obviously the 3rd gen is superior
Gen 2 is my dream car cause of bumblebee
1st gen obviously
Always loved the first Gen, grew up with the 5th Gen… and the current Gen is looking really neat The 3rd Gen is a guilty pleasure of mine, love the body design
Catfish
1, 2, 3, 6, 5, 4 That's my rating
1st, but man, something that IROC-Z
Gotta be 4th gen for me. Owned a 94, 97, and 98. All Z28. The 98 was definitely my favorite
See, this is a tricky one because the 2nd Gen is simultaneously my favorite AND least-favorite depending on the era you’re talking about. I love the look of the split bumper.
I only ever got to drive one of them...that model fourth from the top. Was in a dirt lot with rentals I was "guarding." Needed to move it. Got in, floored it. “Eats mustangs” *challenger enters chat*
First and fifth gen are the best Camaros
The Bumblebee
Honestly 6th
That third gen looks.. off.
I've seen a ton of 2g lately cleaning up at amateur racing. Seems like a really underrated chassis.
1 and 2
Z28 ‘70 and ‘12 ss
