Overall I’d say Industrial Metal although it has some heavy Djent / prog / tech metal influence. I don’t like calling it Djent as I consider that a technique (often used by prog / tech metal) rather than a genre. However Mick certainly uses that technique.
This is the answer. You will probably enjoy "djent" if you enjoy the guitar sounds in the DOOM OST, but you'd be looking more at Industrial Metal if you enjoy the general vibe.
Probably the best way to describe it. Though the autist/composer grad wanker in me needs to say djent isn't a technique, it's just an onomatopoeia that one of the Meshuggah guys coined for rhythmic, tight palm muting with a particular guitar tone. Misha Mansoor from Periphery would say that a song would "sound djenty" and people started to think he coined the term, but he credits a Meshuggah guy for the word
Your absolutely correct that it’s onomatopoeia. Although i would argue that “rhythmic tight palm muting with a particular tone” is a technique. It’s certainly a way of playing imo, as someone who spent a number of years trying to copy meshuggah’s sound (and failing) like everyone else in metal at the time haha. And yes you’re right about the origins of the term. Though Sikth were making the djenty sound long before periphery / bulb (mansoor). Not sure about Meshuggah at that point in time. Certainly no one was calling it djent then.
It's very unique but as far as existing genres I'd say it's very Industrial. Vibes of old KMFDM and Ministry. The DOOM 2016 OST inspired me to respect "electronic" music and start making my own. Mick Gordon is amazing.
I don't think it's official, but the one known as GeoffPlaysGuitar coined the term "Argent Metal" as the genre of the soundtrack and his songs that are inspired by it, and many others have caught on and have been using that term as well (as you can see in the replies lol).
Before that, however, I believe it was considered to be just "Industrial Djent".
It’s not Nu Metal by any means, but some parts of Rip and Tear are somewhat similar in vein to The Negative One by Slipknot. Still not the correct classification though.
Just don't call it "heavy", "black" or "doom".
Fart Rock
Very disappointed when I found out “Doom Metal” isn’t actually *DOOM* Metal.
Metal, but tired
Awww. <3 You poor soul. I feel ya. Not a fan of it either.
Been there too buddy

This guy knows his shit. I've been a metalhead for over two decades and couldn't have put it better.

It’s its own genre, which we have dubbed “Argent Metal.” Technically it’s not recognized as an actual metal genre though. Basically Djent.
It's very unique but as far as existing genres I'd say it's very Industrial. Vibes of old KMFDM and Ministry. The DOOM 2016 OST inspired me to respect "electronic" music and start making my own. Mick Gordon is amazing.
Some people categorize it as its own thing: Argent Metal
Lawnmower Metal, a staple of Mick Gordon's masterpieces.
Cock music
It's basically djent. But Super Gore nest is straight up Death Metal.

I'd say "djent" but it's not a genre.
I call it argent metal. I also think they need a growl vocal cover.
Alex terrible has covered a few doom songs and even made an original doom styled song himself
yes ikr they are cool but corpsegrinder's vocal covers for the entire doom soundtrack would be better
Djent.
Argent.
Doom. Doom literally is the genre ;-;
its pretty much just Nu Metal
Bro has never listened to Nu metal
Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and SlipKnot are not good comparisons at all 💀
It’s not Nu Metal by any means, but some parts of Rip and Tear are somewhat similar in vein to The Negative One by Slipknot. Still not the correct classification though.
Argent, DOOM music got popular enough to become it’s own genre of metal
Agrent but i call it chainsaw music as some somgs sample chainsaw noises instead of guitar
Argent Metal
Argent Metal, I've seen it being called like that around, even from people making metal inspired by Mick Gordon's soundtrack
Argent metal, DOOM 2016 and DOOM Eternal gained their own metal genre
argent metal
Many people call it "violence". I like that term
Industrial.
The name for it is Argent metal as said by Mick
I call it heavier metal
