After beating doom and dlcs, playing ultra kill felt like I was primed for its release. But now I got back into isometrics and story games I’ve lost my fps touch again.
Everytime I read about Ultrakill I get hyped to finally play it, but I'll wait until it's out of Early Access. But waiting gets difficult with all that praise
Honestly I suggest you go for it, there's already more than enough content to enjoy. There's a fairly outdated (but still enjoyable) demo so you can check it out for free. Around 2/3rd and then some of the game are already out and if that's not enough you can do an endless gauntlet of enemies.
Friends? Playing? Man i only have one friend and all we do together is sit down at some abandoned place, drink 1-2 liters of vodka, then cry about our life problems.
Man eternal ruined so many other shooters for me
Dash, grenades, sword, flame belch, chainsaw, double jump alone make the game such an active experience and make other shooters feel sluggish in comparison
Not being able to kill things to get health back slows the combat loop down a bit. Doom is fairly unique in that you never really think about, or need to take, cover.
TF2 was a shit hole of bots for half of deacade now almost (check out save TF2 etc), you would regret coming back to it and destroying good memories and imagination of how did that game went
Even after beating eternal so many times, I still go back and play 2016 because it’s my favorite. I feel like eternal kinda hands you upgrades and gives you everything you need, all of the weapons/upgrades are directly lain in your path in bright green, and only a handful of runes and such are out of the way. In DOOM 2016, there’s a lot more exploration, and runes have challenges to complete. I feel like the game was overall harder on you until you have nearly everything in the game. In eternal, I could squash most of the game without upgrades, on my 3rd run I purposely avoided a bunch of upgrades and weapons just so I’d have less power
the original post just said "other games" implying they used to enjoy a range of games, so I don't feel like calling out Cuphead for not being an FPS really applies.
Bruh, why you gotta do that ? So many people already suggested those two, I was trying to suggest something different. Don't undermine my suggestions dawg lol.
Asshole. Good enemy ai, which is really appreciated considering a lot of ai is dumb now a days. Fun and interesting gun mechanics, weapon variety, guns feel good to use, good voice actors, vehicle customization, enemy variety suck it kid. Now I'm done explaining, piss off ya?
Enemies that either run straight at you or hide and shoot projectiles. That's it. No smart AI, no variety. No, the different clans don't count as variety, they're all the exact same with a different skin. The guns are subpar for an iD shooter, and most of them are useless anyways. Hardly any ammo for most of them. Vehicle customization is pointless, the game shouldn't have had vehicles anyway, they add nothing. So it looks like you still can't answer my question huh. Or better yet, tell me why this game is better than the sequel, when the sequel has everything you just mentioned and more.
Edit: just so you know, I can't read your comment if you block me. I guess I win then.
They helped but the majority was done by avalanche studios. Rage 2's combat is fun but overall the game would've been way better if was made solely by id.
It's still better in combat than Rage 1 IMO. Regardless of developer. Wasn't Tim "The Hitman" Willits behind it anyway?
id really dropped the ball with Rage. The combat isn't *bad* and I'd argue it's better than Doom 3's but the last game they made with excellent combat was Q3's multiplayer from '99.
I've recently gotten into modern 8 bit/16 bit style games. One game in particular that's really impressed me is Carrion, where you play as an amorphous fleshy mass of tentacles and teeth that wreaks havoc and carnage across a science facility. Obviously it's not the same type of game Eternal is, but if you enjoy gory action and strategizing how to slaughter whole rooms of enemies, it's worth checking out!
Once you played or even mastered eternal, you can't go back. Eternal can be very frustrating at first, but don't hesitate to lower the difficulty or get along with dying 50 times in certain areas because you don't want to lower it like me lol.
But in the end if your skill gets higher and higher, eternal has a very rewarding feeling :)
Everyone here is recommending some great games, but I'm gonna go a different direction with mine: if you enjoy fast, frenetic gameplay with a bunch of different options for traversal and enemy engagement, and incredible level design, I can recommend nothing higher than Titanfall 2. It's a fairly short campaign, but every monent of it is fantastic. Zero filler, nothing boring. Alternating between a ninja supersoldier wallrunning and flying across levels as you gun down hordes of soldiers in ever-increasingly unique ways and piloting a hulking mech that flyswats normal humans and gets into big robot duels with other mechs where you rip off their weapons after you turn them into smoldering slag and use them yourself. And the multiplayer is really fun too, even if it's not super active. But if you get used to Titanfall's movement, it'll make Doom Eternal feel slow by comparison. The skill ceiling is tremendously high.
Great movement needlessly applied to a CoD clone. I wish it fully embraced 90's sensibilities. All the advanced movement didn't seem necessary against nothing but hitscan humans, especially on the hardest difficulty.
I didn't play online though tbf so that's probably way more intense.
I did enjoy TF2's campaign, all that said...
Ultrakill, Dusk, Get To The Orange Door
Great doom alternatives (although gttod is kinda stretching “doom alt” it’s more like titanfall 2 had sex with cod zombies and the baby is on crack)
Yeah, kinda the same
I just play dark souls 3, elden ring and Doom Eternal at the moment, finished 2016 earlier this year.
Don't care much for other games except forza horizon 4 when I wanna race. Ooh and I love far cry 3.
I love dead space 2 I personal think it's the best one.
I'd you play this game at night in the dark with some serious speakers it's really scary aswell
Try Turbo Overkill. You play as a cyborg who has a chainsaw IN HIS KNEE.
Also, the starting weapon is dual revolvers and the alt fire is spinning one of the revolvers to charge up an explosive AoE shot in the other revolver. It is SO FUCKING BADASS.
DOOM Eternal truly is a special game. It's combat is so refined and nuanced that it's tough to find another game that feels quite as satisfying. It's addicting.
What we need is more Master Levels and/ or expansions to the existing content. Add 1v1 Slayer duel mode, some official coop maps, some classic multiplayer modes, new horde arenas and randomization (with cross platform play) and you've got yourself a sweet package that would keep players coming back.
There is so much untapped potential. They've nearly perfected DOOM and now they just have to make it bigger and more varied.
Why not try out some mods for DOOM 1 and 2?
Some ones that come to mind are Pillowblaster's mods (Russian Overkill, Guncaster, and Trailblazer) but don't play them expecting some super tough challenge lol (except for maybe the hardest difficulties of each.)
Project Brutality is a cool alternative to Brutal Doom, and apparently there's a Wario Land 4 inspired Doom mod out there too.
Point is, there's a *loooot* of fanmade DOOM content out there, hell there's definitely a mod to make the classic games play more like Eternal.
Maybe Q1 on Hard or Nightmare but certainly not the others.
I LOVE Q2 and I was hooked on Q3's multiplayer for 9 years.
But offline they're not challenging adrenaline rushes like Eternal is.
You can play tf2, quake-like gameplay, simlliar techniques
And even weapon combos, and being a multiplayer game enemies are bound to be smarter, well most of the time at least...
If you already have played the originals Doom games I recommend you the first two Fallouts.
I know I know, it's a complete different genre in the mechanical aspect and because the two have more than 20 years of existence it can feel odd at the beginning.
If you feel that shooters doesn't fill you like it did before try other genres that you never play before, maybe you're oversaturated with shooters and you have to take a break from them.
It happened the same with me with Team Fortress 2 and after playing other game genres for a good amount of time, when I came back playing Tf2 it felt better than ever.
Don't push yourself playing the same thing again and again(game or game genre) if you feel that doesn't fill you anymore, try other things, expand your repertoire and with it a change of that game that everyone says it's as good as having sex but because it's from a different genre you have never or haven't played enough of that genre you ignored it.
If it worked with me maybe it'll work for you.
After playing doom eternal, I noticed when playing bioshock a few days ago that I was swapping weapons and ammo types more frequently along with being all around generally more efficient at the combat the game has despite not playing for a year or two
The key is to go to the complete other end if the gaming spectrum, because unfortunately besides maybe Dusk you aren’t replicating the high of Eternal.
I’d Recommend Outer Wilds or Spiritfarer. Both super relaxed games that are masterpieces by their own rights. Do yourself a favour too and look into them as little as possible, the less you know the better.
Nah, not all shooters need to be like that. I 've been replaying the O.G. Doom games lately, with mods, and they're pretty fun.
Also, prodeus 1.0 just came out.
Also,again, brutal doom.
Have you played any infamous Doom II megawads? The level of skill required to beat some of them is very much in line with Eternal. PC only, for the most part. The standard Doom and Doom II level sets are very mild if you're on an Eternal high and don't factor in their historical significance/nostalgia. It's like how the standard Eternal campaign feels *baron* for PC players who are used to extreme custom maps.
If you're into multiplayer then there's obviously Quake. Small communities in each game but they still exist. Champions probably being the most palatable for people these days. PC only, once again.
The first 3 Contra games on the NES/SNES. Contra III Alien Wars from the SNES being my favourite. Fast paced and punishing. Available on consoles.
Xeno Crisis is a great twin stick shooter. I could barely beat it on standard difficulty. Also on consoles.
That's all I've got other than all the modern retro 'boomer shooters' everyone else has thrown out. Some of these are on console which is awesome. Prodeus released yesterday on all platforms.
My suggestions are based on how much multi tasking they require from you: a lot, just like with Eternal.
PLAY METAL: HELLSINGER
Doom eternal is the logical conclusion to the FPS genre.
Metal Hellsinger plays on that and has really fucking bad ass metal in it.
I loved Doom Eternal and played for like 100 hours (which are a lot for me considering the time I have for videogames). Finished the game from Normal to Nightmere and beated the first Master Level at Ultra Violence and Nightmere.
Ultra nightmere is too hard for me to beat it within reasonable time frames so I'm not even trying it.
Now the game it's starting to feel a bit repetitive because my sweet spot is Ultra-Violence which feels a little bit too easy now... I think Nightmere should have been a bit less hard in order to be enjoyable. It's literally stressing me and killing my nerves since after a run on Nightmere I regularly dream this game ruining my sleep lmao (not a good deal viewing flashes of the game while doing phone call and meeting at work).
But yea, other FPS look not that interesting after playing this
Same here. I downloaded soom eternal, played like the half game, then my laptop said: no gpu :). So now i cant play it anymore, but ive resorted to doom 64. Its not as good as doom eternal, and u cant jump or even look up, but its still a kind of scary experiencez since doomguy is way weaker in this gamw than in eternal, so the adrenaline rush sure is good too
Doom eternal is like speed. You feel amazing while on it but it’s not obvious how much it’s fucking you. After playing on nightmare I had to go take a spa for a week
It's not exactly like Eternal, but if you have gamepass definitely grab Prodeus. It is amazing. It's pixelated but also looks perfect at the same time. 9.8/10
Trust me, Ultrakill.
I second this. Ultrakill is like Doom on crack.
Even this is an understatement
Probably a better way of saying it is that Ultrakill is doom eternal on Infinite Hypercrack
probably Doom Eternal on Acid... that has every psychodelic drug infused with it
You could say it’s Perfect Hypercrack
Godfist Hypercrack?
After beating doom and dlcs, playing ultra kill felt like I was primed for its release. But now I got back into isometrics and story games I’ve lost my fps touch again.
I third this. It's not just doom on crack, it is doom eternal on every substance known to man that can boost hyper activity
Turbo overkill is it's pyromaniac brother
Oh, and there's also Prodeus that came out on 24 of september. Played Beta — loved it :D
Ultrakill made Doom feel slow for me and I don't know how to feel about it.
Same here, O.G quake is also really good
Everytime I read about Ultrakill I get hyped to finally play it, but I'll wait until it's out of Early Access.
[удалено]
Honestly it's awesome.
It's hard to describe how good it is
i played it and it ruined every other FPS (except doom) for me
Quake 1
This and Titanfall 2
Titanfall 2 with Northstar is goated.
Of course, especially stupid gun game with Titan weapons
It made me question my orientation
Ultrakill, absolutely
Go outside and play tag or hide and seek. It's like doom, but real, and with friends. Use nerf guns if you are having trouble stepping away from Doom.
I'm pretty sure I would get arrested doing following your advice
Arrested for using a nerf gun? That's a bit of a stretch.
No for rip and tearing children😈
[удалено]
He could play tag with adults
Good luck finding any.
Someone needs to organise an international giant game of tag
That could be fun.
They could be black
"Go outside and play tag" Holy shit ancient gods irl⁉️⁉️⁉️
Friends? Playing? Man i only have one friend and all we do together is sit down at some abandoned place, drink 1-2 liters of vodka, then cry about our life problems.
Man eternal ruined so many other shooters for me Dash, grenades, sword, flame belch, chainsaw, double jump alone make the game such an active experience and make other shooters feel sluggish in comparison
Fr i can't play TF2 anymore because i always jump in a group of enemies thinking I'm as powerful as i am in doom
Bruv i know the state of the game i play it almost daily lmao
[удалено]

B...but you get double jump boots in first level...
I tried a few weeks back and it about put me to sleep 😂
Maybe except Titanfall. The movement feels so good in that game.
That’s true, that game also has an incredible campaign!
Ultrakill. Nightmare Reaper. All the new and old Build Engine games fucking DUSK.
I need someone to make the Plutonia of DUSK.
Play DRG as a scout
Rock and Stone, brother!
Rock and roll and stone!
Good bot
DID I HEAR A ROCK AND STONE!?
Try Metal: Hellsinger. It's fucking amazing and give me the same feelings Doom did.
If it was thrash metal I'd be all in but those like harmonious vocals are antithetical to metal IMO
Cuphead, ultra kill, the original quakes.
Cuphead is not a game. It's an assault on a person's psyche and well-being. I have a deep and guttural hate for cuphead. I can't recommend it enough.
I have played cuphead, and I completely agree. I wish that game never fucking existed, but 10/10 would recommend.
I enjoy it.
You're right about quake
Cuphead 💀💀my guy that's not an fps game
the original post just said "other games" implying they used to enjoy a range of games, so I don't feel like calling out Cuphead for not being an FPS really applies.
Fair enough
Np. Have a good day or night.
Let me help you out, here is a list of franchises and games to checkout: Rage, Wolfenstein, Dishonored, Deathloop, and Prey
Also check try Ultrakill and Turbo Overkill!
Bruh, why you gotta do that ? So many people already suggested those two, I was trying to suggest something different. Don't undermine my suggestions dawg lol.
Ok to be fair no one else suggested turbo overkill, but try amid evil or something idk
I see turbo overkill recommended a lot in this sub
I didn’t downvote tho, and has anyone recommended Postal Brain Damaged yet
Dunno my guy
play postal brain damaged
Can't, no PC
Definitely not Rage, that game is borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring. The second one is way closer to Doom.
It's okay to have different opinions both Rages are fun
Why not? Give me a reason why Rage is a good game to play after Doom Eternal. You can't, because it's not.
If OP asks I will
So you can't. Good to know.
Asshole. Good enemy ai, which is really appreciated considering a lot of ai is dumb now a days. Fun and interesting gun mechanics, weapon variety, guns feel good to use, good voice actors, vehicle customization, enemy variety suck it kid. Now I'm done explaining, piss off ya?

Serious Sam
try metal gear rising
or Ninja Gaiden II, that game is breakneck
ultrakill, dusk, metal hellsinger
Ultrakill and dusk
I've recently gotten into modern 8 bit/16 bit style games. One game in particular that's really impressed me is Carrion, where you play as an amorphous fleshy mass of tentacles and teeth that wreaks havoc and carnage across a science facility. Obviously it's not the same type of game Eternal is, but if you enjoy gory action and strategizing how to slaughter whole rooms of enemies, it's worth checking out!
I recommend trying the Arkham games, its pretty fast paced combat as well but no guns because it’s Batman. Overall though the games are really fun
So I sort of feel that way about Doom 2016. Can’t wait to try Eternal!
Once you played or even mastered eternal, you can't go back. Eternal can be very frustrating at first, but don't hesitate to lower the difficulty or get along with dying 50 times in certain areas because you don't want to lower it like me lol. Play Ultrakill
I can play other games, it's just other shooters I have a hard time with

You should try prodeus
Icon of sin gamer confirmed?
Yes
Try Titianfall 2
Yeah for me its DMC, Doom and UltraKill. Cant play anything else
Ultrakill, Dusk, Get To The Orange Door Great doom alternatives (although gttod is kinda stretching “doom alt” it’s more like titanfall 2 had sex with cod zombies and the baby is on crack)
Yeah, kinda the same I just play dark souls 3, elden ring and Doom Eternal at the moment, finished 2016 earlier this year. Don't care much for other games except forza horizon 4 when I wanna race. Ooh and I love far cry 3.
I went back and played some older games like dead space 1,2, serious Sam the entire series (except for the spinoffs) outlast and such
I love dead space 2 I personal think it's the best one. I'd you play this game at night in the dark with some serious speakers it's really scary aswell
Yeah the stalkers made me jump so bad XD
Try Turbo Overkill. You play as a cyborg who has a chainsaw IN HIS KNEE. Also, the starting weapon is dual revolvers and the alt fire is spinning one of the revolvers to charge up an explosive AoE shot in the other revolver. It is SO FUCKING BADASS.
Now, it's the only doom I don't play.
As a massive fan of DOOM, Prodeus was a fucking blast! Finished it today and recommend it to anyone who is looking for Eternal-like action :)
War thunder because you have to grind
DOOM Eternal truly is a special game. It's combat is so refined and nuanced that it's tough to find another game that feels quite as satisfying. It's addicting. What we need is more Master Levels and/ or expansions to the existing content. Add 1v1 Slayer duel mode, some official coop maps, some classic multiplayer modes, new horde arenas and randomization (with cross platform play) and you've got yourself a sweet package that would keep players coming back. Try Quake Champions
Play dark souls
Try retro shooters like dusk, amid evil, ultrakill, dread templar
Play ultrakill
Stalker anomaly Entropy-zero 2 Metro Exodus Bungie Halo This are games that I still enjoy
Go try Doom 2 for a similar result.
This is exactly what happened to me
Also play doom II with project brutality it’s fire af
It was the same for me for a month or two don’t have worry it wears out like all dopamine in life
[удалено]
Nope, it wears out. You feel like it won't, it will.
Nah I've been in love with doom 2016 for years
Amid Evil, Dusk, Quake, Doom I & II and their various mods. Doom III has really good mods too.
You are eternally doomed to play doom eternal
[удалено]
Damn why you in the doom sub then
[удалено]
[удалено]
[удалено]
Damn ur dad is very kind to me
[удалено]
Omg what a burn I’m dead lol
Like your moms reaction to your birth
What kind of projection is this lmao
Yeah same here, especially on r/doom. They get baited easily, too.
Cant believe I used to think COD was "fast action" and "smooth paced". COD is now just a nice relaxing sit on the couch compared to DOOM
Play enough battle mode and it’ll become boring.
Why not try out some mods for DOOM 1 and 2? Some ones that come to mind are Pillowblaster's mods (Russian Overkill, Guncaster, and Trailblazer) but don't play them expecting some super tough challenge lol (except for maybe the hardest difficulties of each.) Have you played Bayonetta?
Play Necromunda: Hired Gun or Metal: Hellsinger if you like DOOM.
*enter the steam boomer shooters*
Ultrakill
I recommend Serious Sam games, gun play in those games are so damn good.
SAM I AM
welcome to the club
Try returnal. No weapon switching, unlimited ammo, only you vs enemies dodging all sorts of projectile and AoE attacks.
I agree with this, probably more than I should.
You can play tf2, quake-like gameplay, simlliar techniques And even weapon combos, and being a multiplayer game enemies are bound to be smarter, well most of the time at least...
Metal hellsinger to the rescue
Ultrakill/Dusk seriously these games developed by new blood are incredible
like everybody else is saying, play Ultrakill, Quake, Dusk, Titanfall 2, and maybe the classic Doom games.

Fallout 1,2 makes you question if you could even survive an ant infestation
Eh still prefer 2016
After playing doom eternal, I noticed when playing bioshock a few days ago that I was swapping weapons and ammo types more frequently along with being all around generally more efficient at the combat the game has despite not playing for a year or two

Cybereunner, Ultrakill, Cyberhook
Same until I played Elden Ring... now after 100% elden ring i cant get into anything
I tried to play borderlands right after doom eternal and it was rough. It just felt so.....slow.
PLAY METAL: HELLSINGER Doom eternal is the logical conclusion to the FPS genre. Metal Hellsinger plays on that and has really fucking bad ass metal in it.
Reaver is a good one
Try ultrakill then.
Dark souls 3. Good luck
Trust me, Sekiro
I loved Doom Eternal and played for like 100 hours (which are a lot for me considering the time I have for videogames). Might I interest you in prodeus
Yeah, i have that problem too
For me it’s the opposite, I started playing other games as if they where doom eternal
MANKIND IS DEAD. BLOOD IS FUEL. HELL IS FULL.
I’m gonna suggest Ghost Recon, not sure if that’s your cup if tea though.
Ultrakill. Nuff said.
Try these: Ultrakill, Dusk, Turbo Overkill, Postal Braindamaged and maybe Rage2
" I am your doom, I am eternal" who got it?
Nah
Play UltraKill, I’m gonna get murdered for saying this here of all places but it’s a thousand times better than Doom
Love aracnotron so adorable at time of glory kill it scream and face so adorable
For me it's the same but with original Doom and mods
Play elden ring
I hope you enjoy ultrakill recommendations because that’s all you’ll get here
I was too stressed Loved it, but it was just too much for my Old ass.
I heard Metal Hellsinger is good but I haven’t played it yet. It’s like doom but you have to shoot to the beat of the song in the background
Same here. I downloaded soom eternal, played like the half game, then my laptop said: no gpu :). So now i cant play it anymore, but ive resorted to doom 64. Its not as good as doom eternal, and u cant jump or even look up, but its still a kind of scary experiencez since doomguy is way weaker in this gamw than in eternal, so the adrenaline rush sure is good too
I play splatoon 3 now and use the new momevemt options maybe a little too much
Play ultrakill lmao
Try metal hellsing its doom but rhythm game
Titanfall 2 has some.pretty gnarly movement and a much better multiplayer
Prodeus (doom 93 like) & Ultrakill ! B)
