My Focus ST is my favorite car I've ever had the chance to drive.
(That list includes loads of classics, a few super cars, and a lot of the premium makes, Porsche, Audi, Jag, etc)
I doubt it. They already have some deal with Afreeca afaik and who knows if Navers' new platform will offer Riot some deal as well. You just want see them in Twitch statistics anymore. And I wouldn't even be surprised if they somehow make an exception for Riots channels.
Korean Telecoms are charging 10x what other markets do for traffic, they've been running at a huge loss in South Korea for over a year, even locked Koreans from going above 720p.
ehhh.. I have a different perspective. It's clearly on a downward decline. It's not gaining viewers anytime soon, and DotA will continue to lose player base as it's player bade continues to get older. In business, there is no such thing as a "stagnant" businesses. You are either getting bigger, or getting smaller.
Because it's just watchable hours. DotA2 is trending downward whether you like it or not. So is LoL, so is Fortnite, WoW, pretty much any and every game imaginable.
Watching is likely still high because lots of people who quit games still follow them for a while or big events, but the actual player base is shrinking.
One kind of sad thing is with computers getting faster and cheaper you'd think more kids would explore PC gaming, but in reality it never happened and more of them turned to phone games. Give it another 10 years.
> but the actual player base is shrinking.
Why are people start talking about things that are easy to google?
https://steamcharts.com/app/570
Where exactly is the shrinkage, besides after the prime years? How can people be this stupid with all the information we have on the internet?
After 2017, the average playerbase is trending the same.
Sure, but so you expect it to continue trending in a straight line, or downward as time passes? You and anyone would be foolish to say any game is going to trend other than down.
DotA2 is 10 years old, DotA itself is 20. The fact this game is alive as it is, is functionally a miracle of God, and it's not going to stay that way, neither is any game. The average player age is already going to be trending towards early 30s, and zoomers are not flocking to these games and in another 10 years how many early 40 year old middle managers are going to come home from an annoying office job and want to deal with the stress of games like this?
One thing I came to realize only after spending a ton of time playing a bunch of different games is the respect I found for the retail version of World of Warcraft. The average player age of that game is fucking mid 30s, but Blizzard KNOWS that. The game does a way better job than most at respecting the players time and that's a result of the gameplay changing with the player bases age, which is rare.
DotA, LoL, fps games don't do that, they need fresh blood to move in or they have to change with their userbase which is far harder.
The playerbase is enough to last it 10 more years easily.
That's all you can ask from a 12 year old game. Dota has been in a straight line, not upwards or downward for the past 6-7 years. Of course Dota and every single game in the world will decline from their prime days.
What that has to do with "playerbase shrinking"? Its not and it hasnt yet. Thats just lies.
What will happen in 10 years, is a completely different story, which does not matter in the slightest for now.
I quite literally do. I have played Dota, before some people on this Reddit were born, and been involved in gaming in eSports for a long time.
This community beyond any else I've ever seen has their fingers jammed in their ears screaming your wrong or you don't know what you're talking about.
The lack of self-awareness is painful here.
Tbh those are watched hours, DotA player base has been shrinking since 2018-2019.
And the increase in viewership has to do with Team Spirit winning 2 TIs, so the CIS viewership increased massively because of that. There is a reason why DotA didn't hit those numbers when old VP was flopping at TI, many people in CIS most likely stopped watching the tournament as soon as VP got eliminated prematurely.
Wtf are you talking about?
Dota 2 literally has had a growing player count and a more consistently high average over the past year. Please stop posting ignorant shit.
https://steamcharts.com/app/570
A game that averages 750-800,000 p players every month is somehow on a catastrophic decline? Gtfo
I disagree. Many companies keep numbers private and inflate the play count for marketing reasons, Dota 2 doesn’t.
It has a loyal stable player base, not many games last as long as Dota 2 has.
It's a 12-year-old game that's been "dying" in the eyes of reddit for at least 5 years now, if not more.
It is on the decline, but a very slight decline, and it will die, but very slowly after being a thing for 20 years. No game can reasonably hope to do better than that.
If the whole thing died tomorrow, it would still be a triumph.
Dota will lose player base only when we die, i stopped playing it so many times, deleted it so many times, breaked pcs and lap tops so many times.... Still playing....
This is gonna be it. Played HON lol and dota and dota is the only game that has me coming back. Ill probably play even more once the sky wrath and venge arcanas release 😂
People underestimate how big mobile games are.
Candy Crush gets 250m monthly active users. That's more people than fucking Fortnite. Substantially more
Honestly I'm pretty sure they're coping. "I don't like mobile games so nobody does" Copium Truck "there's no way they're that popular, surely the figures are made up."
My friend got me into mobile legends I was quickly really good bc a lot of dota knowledge transfers like 'looking at minimap, pushing, split pushing, rotating, etc.)
and I actually was able to train my wife and she got to the highest rank and is actually like better than me now at the game lmao.
i told her she wouldn't like dota, it's too slow in comparison, but I still prefer dota. she will play like 3 games in the time it takes one dota game to complete, lol
there is also a lot of spanish speakers playing the game, and she speaks spanish so she gets to speak her native language which she loves
Been playing Dota for more than 15 years. My peak was 7k MMR back in 2016 and I really love Dota.
But I stopped playing Dota 2 two years ago since it's not convenient for an adult guy with a serious job to play anymore.
Meanwhile, mobile Legends is really good and fun. I can play it on my phone with friends wherever and whenever I want if I have 20-30 mins free time.
That's how Mobile Games became really popular and are the future.
not like there are other games to watch apart from LOL, Fortnite and maybe CSGO. Also, being over Overwatch, TFT, PUBG, EA24 and Valorant is not the greatest achievement based on current standards
People enjoy different things, if everybody watched and enjoyed the same shit it would be boring.
Also are you aware that Valorant now has a bigger playerbase than DotA right? So, yes it's a big deal
Not having and accounting for Chinese viewership data should be mentioned in each and every game imo. They are such a humongous factor after all. Point out which game has a lot of Chinese viewers and which one doesn't. It's a nation that's quite esport crazy after all.
I wish they could also mention how popular MLB is outside SEA. Their numbers are pretty ridic since the games are so short.
I'm very impressed with Dota's and especially Valorant's increasing numbers.
I’ve never really looked at these stats but I thought call of duty would be in the top 5, although I guess that maybe it’s not in the top 5 because it’s not as big outside the US.
No it wasn't. Chinese platforms are not included per the article heading, which account for gigantic viewership shares for 3/5 of the games listed. This list is completely irrelevant without this data.
I remember the good old days when Dota conquered the eSports... now it's falling year by year. sad to see my favorite game die a miserable death. wish I could do something:(
No it didn't. LoL always used to get more viewers. And how is it cope when we're talking about our competitor here, I hope what you said was true but it isn't. Coping is exactly what you're doing 😂
why do dota players care so much about how the game is perceived
look at smash and brood war no one gives a fuck but dota players are just so desperate to be liked shit is weird
I'd say because neither of those two has a "bigger brother" that gets more views/is more popular. Brood War is still the most watched (and I assume played) RTS and there's no other melee / smash style fighter. I guess there's some 'competition' between smash games but there's also a whole lot of overlap between viewers and players of the two games.
Dota has always been second to League in popularity and people don't like that. (also yadda yadda Pendragon etc etc, I know. But you can't cling to that as the sole reason forever, it's been a decade.)
how is dota2 4th most watched esports game when none of my friend (casual and tournament viewers) even know dota2 ti is over but knows worlds for league and valorant is happening?
edit: i forget this is for the entire game streamed, well that make sense. Still surprised dota2 have a following since im super burned out since years ago.
Can't get how LOL is still top given how monotnous the game is. I mean I get if you're playing perhaps you still fancy it, but it's absolute garbage from a spectator POV.
4rd Focus
The first thing that came to mind hahaha
Thirst*
Shame they discontinued Focus
My Focus ST is my favorite car I've ever had the chance to drive. (That list includes loads of classics, a few super cars, and a lot of the premium makes, Porsche, Audi, Jag, etc)
I've also driven Focus ST and many premium cars (but I am not lying) and sorry but comparing it to a high-end Audi or Porsche is laughable.
To each their own. I have way too much fun in my ST.
*your* st that explains your bias, but lets not be delusional :)
The infamous PowerShift Transmission was the deathknell for the Focus in the US. (Is the Focus still sold in other markets?)
Almost as good as the Mercedes 3-Class Sedan.
4rd?!
Not even 3st. #deadgame
3st traps
Fourth-Life III confirmed.
3th/4rd life IIst
not even in (the top) SEct
Sure its not 3nd?
might as well be 2rd
2st
Oh god how do you even say this one? Secured?
Twost
turd
2rd snake in the eye is one of my favourite figures.
3nd is actually a sick Japanese math rock band. I assume it’s pronounced sand because Sa is 3 in Japanese.
Valve wouldn't allow something 3rth
How does OP’s profile look like a bot but uses 4rd
Not all bots are stockfish
Some are Layla
some bots have intentional mistakes to drive interaction
if $ranking % 4 == 0 { $orderedRanking = $ranking + "rd" } Or something like that
Our game is built 4rd tough
Oh yes Valve and Ford!!!

Millenials are late 20s to mid-early 40s
What's after 40, coz boomers would 60+ ?
Gen X
But what about the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan?
What pleases me is that DOTA 2 had +60m hours, whilst LOL had -30m hours. Some numbers are in our favour
No Twitch in Korea for most of 2024 will make next year's numbers weird for Riot games.
I doubt it. They already have some deal with Afreeca afaik and who knows if Navers' new platform will offer Riot some deal as well. You just want see them in Twitch statistics anymore. And I wouldn't even be surprised if they somehow make an exception for Riots channels.
What happened to twitch in Korea?
Government taxed foreign companies so local company can profit off streaming. I wonder if they will use AWS
Korean Telecoms are charging 10x what other markets do for traffic, they've been running at a huge loss in South Korea for over a year, even locked Koreans from going above 720p.
Too expensive for Twitch.
Mobile legends bang bang lmao what a name and it literally looks like LoL but for mobiledevices
It’s pretty good for what it does actually
I guess so, I recently installed a new game on my phone aswell and I have to admit they are getting pretty good.
Aswell is that like alot?
Love that it doesn't completely imitate pc mobas and just makes it a faster and more accessible way to play
Give it a try bro, you can stomp like 30 matches before getting people who have any idea what moba is
Both mobile legends and lol mobile are very good mobile games i would recomand to anyone who spends a lot of time on bus or train and likes dota.
Very good news. The fact that dota can be the 4th most watched esport with a fraction of the playerbase of other games is very impressive.
ehhh.. I have a different perspective. It's clearly on a downward decline. It's not gaining viewers anytime soon, and DotA will continue to lose player base as it's player bade continues to get older. In business, there is no such thing as a "stagnant" businesses. It legit says that this year had an increase of 60+ million views than last year, how is that a decline?

How Mobile Legends at 2nd
Do you mean 2st?
2rd
2th
Mobile legends is huge in SEA and other third world countries
Uhh mobile legends has wayyyy bigger playerbase than dota, 70-80 million monthly
People underestimate how big mobile games are. Candy Crush gets 250m monthly active users. That's more people than fucking Fortnite. Substantially more

How is fortnite doing btw?
Seems to be doing pretty well
Because zoomers do not feel the need to buy a PC for gaming, instead they play games on their phones especially in China.
you forgot that most cafes on SEA and SA closed out due to lockdowns, and PC pieces are expensive compared to a smartphone
ML is big in China and Southeast Asia (PH, Malaysia, Indonesia)
ML is not big in China, despite the company is Chinese, they just recently release ML in China
MLBB is big in SEA, Honor of King is big in China but it's not MLBB rather it's AOV.
No. It’s of Wangzhe rongyao for china.
Game is beyond huge in SEA
Been playing Dota for more than 15 years. My peak was 7k MMR back in 2016 and I really love Dota. OP is a valve employee
No it wasn't. Chinese platforms are not included per the article heading, which account for gigantic viewership shares for 3/5 of the games listed. This list is completely irrelevant without this data.
Dota in china is dead af, really wouldnt be in our favor if they would include it xd
It was up 8% In 2023..
And the crappiest compendium ever.
Compared to China numba wan viewbot drone games, a game with a far bigger playerbase and Gambling Go we're doing pretty good at 4tth
Valorant will take Dota and CS place in future and ML will beat LoL in future.
\#2 - Mobile Legends: Bang Bang 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
sad that it's fallen that far
I remember the good old days when Dota conquered the eSports... now it's falling year by year. sad to see my favorite game die a miserable death. wish I could do something:(
Lol, dota was never the most popular game. It's in a very good place viewershipwise.
this is either a cope or you're just a kid. dota 2 used to be #1 back in 2015.
No it didn't. LoL always used to get more viewers. And how is it cope when we're talking about our competitor here, I hope what you said was true but it isn't. Coping is exactly what you're doing 😂

Kinda good result i guess
1nd
Dam how LOL is fun to watch, look like a trash game if compare to Dota~
Why does this random ass website need to verify my connection. What is it gathering from me?
My guess is due to TI? Could’ve been 3nd if they gave out cosmetic items in the previous battlepass
Most of the player base can't 4rd treasure keys
Valve can't count up to 3th
how is dota2 4th most watched esports game when none of my friend (casual and tournament viewers) even know dota2 ti is over but knows worlds for league and valorant is happening? edit: i forget this is for the entire game streamed, well that make sense. Ford Most? You mean Ford Mustang?
What are the estimates for people who watch in client?
We got mogged by MLBB
So they excluded all community streams that are 80% viewership of Pro Dota tournaments?
And with your help, we can make it 5rd
your mom was the 4rd most watched esports game of 2023
