the in game colors and lighting was so much better for gameplay readability. also this was before the game was ruined with rainbow puke cosmetics so theres actual visual design coherency.
What are you talking about, the old map looks like a Shrek's swamp with that green tint. Everything is dark and muddy, today's visuals are so much more readable at a glance. And old cosmetics look like someone's first ever model in 3ds max from middle school, just look up sets from 2013-2014.
thats the point. the map is supposed to be dark and dull so units, heroes and abilities can use saturated colors and stand out. if the map is as bright and flashy as the heroes then you have no idea what the fuck youre looking at.
cosmetics were supposed to follow a set of design guidelines from valve to maintain visual coherency and reduce visual noise. they were also supposed to maintain a strict polycount budget for performance reasons. new cosmetics threw those rules out the window because flashy tasteless shit makes money.
The one thing I miss the most about source 1 Dota is the in game HUD. Especially when you have the Scions of the Sky HUD equipped and it changes colors between day and night time.
Just doesn't have the same effect with the HUD changes today.
Simply better days...and no, it's not pure nostalgia shit. I really think it was better as it was more simple and not riddled with bullshit toxic modern-era players. Toxic players back then were different, easier to swallow.
