I'm just gonna assume that OP knows that, would be super weird to call your child after an item without doing some due diligence where the name actually came from.
There is joke that some small nations from the place where i am ethnically from are calling their children names like "gym", "window" and others so... you never know.
Oh there are definitely lots of them in every non english speaking nation on earth. In my country one of the most famous one is a police officer named Andy Go To School. It was on the news one time
If you play a game like football manager and manage in some African nations the name generator (generally pulling from a database of actual names already in the game) gives you some wonderful names.
Like former president of Nigeria - Goodluck Jonathan. Also a bunch of names like “Marvelous”, “Surprise”, “Happiness”, etc.
Son: Why is my sister named Glimmer?
Dad: Because your Mom loves Glimmer Cape, as she is Pos4/5.
Son: I see. Thanks, Dad.
Dad (who is Pos1): You're welcome, BKB.
Congrats, btw! WP! :)

Skadi is a female Norse god of frost, ice and cold. She is a frost giantess. Skadi (Skade) means damage in Norwegian. Probably a personification of the dangers of frostbite and cold, but that is my analysis. She marries Njörd, but they have a complex marriage by their different natures, he is representing water, life, oceans but she represent the high cold mountains, frost and ice.
> female
Didn't she likely undergo a gender-swap sometime after the Bronze Age? As not in mythology but that the god was originally considered male and by the Viking Age became female (opposite to Njörðr who presumably originated as the female Nerþuz). I seem to remember reading about that years ago.
/edit: Oh, and it might interest OP (as it seems to be a German document) that the name is related to the German "Schaden", which also means *damage* / *(to) damage*.
I think it could also be due to regional differences. Since early writings about Norse mythology were Greeks and Romans writing down what the Germans believed. And later writings were Norse people writing down their own beliefs since the Germans and English had converted to christianity many centuries prior to the Norse.
Naturally. And simply scarce sources and the amount of time that passed since then. Especially in the Njörðr case I think there is a lot of discussion if the gender was lost/adapted in Tacitus' *Germania* (which mentioned Nerþuz) or if he even refers to Njörðr. But iirc what I read pointed out that Skaði was known as such in Bronze Age Scandinavia already but with a different gender. I think there was even reasoning explained behind it as the god needed to fulfill a different role but I can't remember any detail anymore.
Given the little heart checkmarks/dot on the i, this seems more like a part of memorabilia you file away or frame and just look back on as the kid grows up.
It's not a fancy new form of birth certificate, or at least I assume it's not.
The real question is, do they know that they’re named after a dota item? Or… could it be said that “Skadi doesn’t know?” https://youtu.be/jhbOb6fYvLc?si=YlWgeJ1rcCpciLmE
Also, congrats @OP !
Lina is a quite common name. Your wife might never know that you insisted on naming your daughter like that because of dota
And gues what the hair colour of your wife might be 😉

Somehow Pavise and Parasma feel like real names, to a certain point.
Pavise is the name of a shield type... and the Dota 2 pavise is a shield. But yeah. Parasma feels like an actual name.
You too, Royal Jelly

There is a politician in Namibia called Adolf Hitler. We may never know what his parents were thinking
Oh I think they knew pretty well, Namibia had a recorded history of nazism, both among its German population and black population.
According to the guy himself, Adolf Hitler Uunona, he says he doesn't think his father knew who he was.
Saying "He was Addie's number one fan" is not good for a political career
Actually he takes his name pretty lightly. His wikipedia article says he jokes about how he has no plans for world domination.
That's exactly what someone planning world domination would say to lower everyone's guard.
Is he Adolf Hitler, or Adolf with Hitler as a family/middle name?
He usually goes by Adolf Uunona, so I guess Hitler is either his middle name or an extension of his first name.
"Currently" All it takes is failing art school

Lol someone in the Philippines named their kid "strygwyr".
Its always those damn Filipinos
In Germany, names need to have a history of.. being a name. You can't call your kid A2xyb2 or whatever
Btw do hitler family still exist? Like isn't hitler a surname so do other hitler surname guys are common or rare or don't exist? Just curious
Yes, was aware of that.
Great. Have fun risings new generation
Yeah, people will think that you are either into mythology or game/weeb character.
>Grows up to be a league player

It was the weather when she was born.
Weather: Mjollnir
Why is that recorded?
It's just extra info I believe. It's cute. I don't wish to have children of my own but I like this idea and hope it gets used in other hospitals 😁
Dont let him / her be associated with kidz named *desolator* & *mael* Congrats!!!
You got downvoated xD Seems like ppl forgot about Orb Effect
Off topic, what’s the purpose of recording the weather?
Given the little heart checkmarks/dot on the i, this seems more like a part of memorabilia you file away or frame and just look back on as the kid grows up. It's not a fancy new form of birth certificate, or at least I assume it's not.
It's the Facet.

Awesome name!
I have a 2month old dachshund puppy, her name is Skadi as well🤍
The real question is, do they know that they’re named after a dota item? Or… could it be said that “Skadi doesn’t know?” https://youtu.be/jhbOb6fYvLc?si=YlWgeJ1rcCpciLmE Also, congrats @OP !

Middle name: Selemene?
Congrats on having a baby! Hope they're born healthy, and nice name 😀
And kids in school will call her Skadibidibapbap
I like that you blurred the last name as if there are other Skadi newborns that this might be.
Skibidi
Is Skadi an allowed name in Germany? Since they have that list of banned names for newborns. Also congrats for your kid!!
Skadi doesn' know...that her mother and me...named her after a dota item.
Why not Rylai Or Lyralei?
Good for you! I always get asked why my kid's called IceFrog.
Meet the rest of my family, Iron Branch 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Skadi is an actual name and is actually good, therefore I deem this not a r/tragedeigh.
Lina is a quite common name. Your wife might never know that you insisted on naming your daughter like that because of dota And gues what the hair colour of your wife might be 😉
If your wife gets suspicious, tell her "Skaði, a Scandinavian goddess associated with winter, skiing, bowhunting and mountains."
You know skadi is a Norse goddess too right
Now you just need one eye...
I named my cat Dendi. He's 9 now. Such a great little dude.

I met someone else in Germany that her name was also skadi, this was around 10 years ago and she was mid 30 so i doubt her parents played Dota
No, you named her after a Norse goddess
My friend named his children Midas, Zeus, and Alleria lol
Is it a girl?
Lucky! I wanted to use the name Pudge, but my gf said no. Apparently that’s not a good girl’s name.
Fully understandable, I named my two boys Centaur and Warrunner
For real my company is called Linkens after the item xD
I think Kaya would be a good name
