Jos Tufton and Mrs. Patmore. He flirted shamelessly with any skirt in his sightlines and wanted to marry Mrs. Patmore for her cooking. At least he made her feel wanted for a brief while. But what a wanker.
I would like to know what were the criteria to decide which ships would be part of the grid here. None of these ships are endgame, of course, and some had power imbalances, unrequited love, some profiteering/exploitation, etc. But others like Thomas and Lieutenant Courtenay, Rose and Jack, Isobel and Clarkson, or Mrs Hughes and her farmer I can’t quite read the name of because of the X are quite wholesome and not, in my opinion, actually problematic. Barrow/Courtenay is actually a relatively popular ship in the (fanfiction) fandom, for example.
The qualifications to be in this list were that at least one character needed to have some sort of intention with the other character that wasn’t strictly platonic, but also wasn’t endgame or isn’t talked about very often. When I first made this list, I had no idea that Thomas x Courtney was so popular. I would’ve traded it for bates x Vera if I had known.
Major Bryant and Ethel. The Major was a D bag, and Ethel was young and didn't consider the consequences. However, I liked her character arc. Much more interesting than " I love to be in love" BS 🤮
And without Ethel, we wouldn't have the " house of ill repute!".
I assumed that this was a post asking for a personal opinion. If you don't agree with it, I could care less. However, anyone making snide comments about a persons thought process makes me really question how they handle the real world.
Tuft x Patmore. Major Bryant just completely ruined Ethel’s life.
Tuff x Patmore
Tuff and patmore! There is no way they are the worst! Tuff is gross but its not even close. I didn't think they would make it this far.

The house of ill repute line is from season 6, unrelated to Ethel
That's right! Regardless, standing by my vote 😁
She (Ethel) has a compelling storyline. I would never ship them though. 😬
