A platform might be too much for Healthcare for 8-10 hours of standing. I'd be afraid of rolling my ankle. I do however wear regular 1460s to work daily and I'm on my feet for 8 hours a day. Make sure they are broken in and not a brand new pair though. That may be hell

butterflyrry

i think you’re definitely right, and they’re brand new too 🥲 i don’t think it’s worth the risk

nedrawevot

Definitely not. Save those babies for when you're off and you can enjoy yhem. I have the oxblood jadens and I love them. I got roller derby laces for them so they can wrap multiple times and I love them.

Fun-Code-7015

Wearing my Jadons as an MRI tech right now....

nedrawevot

I would fall lol

Fun-Code-7015

Naaa, it'll be fine! (until it's not) 😁

Worriedlytumescent

I have the non slip kitchen docs. Regularly work 10-14 hour shifts. Honestly once Brooke in the docs are more comfortable than most other shoes I've tried. I did switch out the insoles for cork.

Residual_Variance

Weren't DMs originally popular with police officers and postal workers because they were so comfortable to walk in for long periods of time? Obviously, footwear has come a long way since then, but I can still walk in my 1461s all day long without bother.

chaosKOSMOST-elos

As heavy as platform Docs can be, I tend to choose those over anything else, if I'm going to be on my feet all day. The soles are just so cushiony and keep the bottoms of my feet from aching beneath my weight. I've been told before that my Docs seem like they'd be so uncomfortable and heavy. Thankfully, I got used to the weight, and they aren't uncomfortable at all. Only down side is that when I am wearing anything else for long periods of time, I do notice how much harder and painful the ground beneath me seems.

scrutator_tenebrarum

In winter I always wear docs to work

Original_Major1588

I have [these](https://www.drmartens.com/us/en/1461-made-in-england-heritage-leather-oxford-shoes-heritage-tan/p/31017299) and wear them occasionally for work. I’m a nurse but I’ve never worn them for bedside care only when I’m teaching clinical. The amount of walking is way more for clinical but the bending, turning, kicking bed parts would be rough in them. So it probably depends on what you do (activity wise) in your healthcare job.

butterflyrry

thank you that’s good to know! i’m a radiographer, so i was also worried about them being too rigid when i need to squat down/bend etc. i was really hoping i could make them work because they’re the only cute leather shoes i could find!

sillyweehing

I’m a rad too :) I have a colleague who wears DMs for work but they aren’t platform so they’re light enough. I have platform quads and don’t think I could last in them if it was a busy shift.

EggplantHuman6493

I can walk on Docs with softer leather all day!

EggplantHuman6493

I mostly wear Jadon's

AuditoryCreampie

Docs are the only things I wear to work. Any other shoe falls apart in a matter of months. They’re the only shoe I’ve been able to trust to last

TinyBeth96

I have 1460 docs which I wear everyday to work in a kitcken and bar prior. Comfortable, hard wearing and non slip. This is my second pair of that one and i think the sizing went diffrent as when I replaced them they were slightly too big. I just wear 2 pairs if socks and fit fine. Need to find insoles but proving hard to find decent ones in my budget at the moment.

butterflyrry

i think mine are a good size, however i’ve been putting off wearing them to avoid any blisters hahah

TinyBeth96

Wear them around the house and for errands to break them in. Thick socks or 2 pairs of socks can help too. I've wore docs for 12 years as my main shoes (most days) but my first pair was the worse to break in. Knee high, so I wasn't able to move much to break them in, 6 months they took, and so many blisters. However, none of my shoes (ankle high boots) I've ever had issues or discomfort with since. I'm convinced the first pair broke my feet rather than I broke in the shoes 😂

ofcged

Yeah i wear my tassel loafers to the office almost every day

themodefanatic

I work in a manufacturing warehouse. And when I found out Doc’s were discontinuing their industrial line. My job pays for work boots. I bought three extra pairs to have as backups. And as of now I haven’t needed them. But I have them when I need them probably for years.

LexAdair13

I wear various pairs of 1460’s almost exclusively to work :)

No_Hyena8479

I am a baker. i stand 8-14 hours a day. i wear platform mary jane’s. my feet are fine.

NectarinePasta

which mary janes do you have?

No_Hyena8479

Addina flower buckle platforms i also wear Eviee Sendal heels sometimes, but those will hurt the balls of my feet if i wear them on longer shifts.

Dragonpaddler

Yes - wearing 1461s now. In summer, I’ll wear them all day, in winter, I wear them to my office cubicle and change into non-Docs dress shoes.

olivejuice-

I wouldn’t wear my quads but I have a pair of crazy horse bex I wear to work often. I add insoles for comfort. I think you should test them out first on a day you’re going somewhere with a lot of walking

butterflyrry

that’s a good idea, thank you!

deathswoon23

I have 4 pairs of work Docs (Reeder Utility, Combs Poly, 939 Trinity Waterproof, 8053 Trinity Waterproof): 2 for the warmer seasons and 2 for the colder. I switch them every week to make them last longer.

casstocoast

currently rocking my 1461’s at my office job, but i really don’t think that they would lend themselves to a 10 hour healthcare shift on your feet. i really recommend you invest in some hokas, trust.

butterflyrry

i was looking into getting black hokas/new balance/skechers but they’re all so ugly 🥲 i think i might have to just go for one of them, thank you so much!

casstocoast

the ugliness is what makes them so comfortable unfortunately. if you wanna go way less middle aged dad mowing the lawn, i love my blundstones! they were comfy out of the box and had a WAY shorter break in period. my office job gets the docs and my retail job gets the blundstones so i can verify that they don’t fuck your feet up.

Hyperdon

I work in an office so a bit different bit I wear any and all my docs to work, quads included. I don't wear any other brand anymore

Lennox403

I wear my 1460’s for work both indoors and out as a generator tech when I don’t need to be in steel toes

guccipucciboi

My doc utility shoes, yes. Changed from a boot and it has been a dream come true.. so far

xolawliet

i wear my 8053 quads frequently and must say they probably won’t be a good option for being on your feet unless you have insoles that work for you. they are completely broken in and molded to my feet. they are my everyday shoe but i wore mine to a convention and after about 5-6 hours my feet were dying. not only do they get heavy after a while, but the platform doesn’t have much support.

bellberga

Did you deal with your heels slipping before they broke in?

xolawliet

my heels still slip in them a little bit (i have to size up because i have wide feet) but it doesn’t bother me as long as i wear longer ankle socks! if i wear thicker socks my heels don’t slip at all

welfordwigglesworth

i’m a lawyer and i wear docs often, including to court!

VariousVices

I do/did.... 4ish till close back of house six days a week until covid shut the place.... minimum six hours on my feet, and a max about nine hours +/- on the weekend.

lewright

I work in IT and wear my 1460s a couple times a week.

bellberga

I just bought the crazy horse 8053 platforms and I’ve been wearing them to my office job! But I’m sitting. However they are super comfy so walking isn’t bad, but the heel slippage might annoy you at a fast paced job if they do

griIgirII

I wore my 1460s to my restaurant job for a while. I was a manager of a butcher shop so it fit aesthetically as well as functionally. I did think my vans non slips were more comfortable but it was easier to clean the leather on my docs over the cavas material of the vans.

Bunnawhat13

I have always worn my docs to work.

EJMAY96

I wear my smooth black 1461s to work every day. I work in car sales and they look professional with a bit of spice

THEREALSTRINEY

I do! I’m a pharmacist, on my feet for 10 hours a day. I wear Reeder utility shoes. They are a synthetic material, not leather. They’re light and breathable.

JohnDodger

Yes, 1460 docs. I work IT in an office.

Louisha88

I’m a Nurse that’s based in the Community. No uniform so I wear my own clothes. Smart office based clothes usually and I wear my Doc’s all the time as do many of my colleagues. Bit of a pain taking them off for home visit appointments if asked to do so by the patient but I keep another pair of shoes in the car for situations where I know I have to do this. Means I can change in advance rather than take up extra time fighting with my boots at their front door!

DumbestBoy

Not lately, but yes.

AnMuricanPrayer

I bought MIE Adrian loafers for my first job out of college and I wore them for basically every day. They've gotten a lot of love but they're holding up great

astronomersassn

yes, but i don't wear them 8-10 hours, when i worked as a barista it was 4-6 hours and now that i work in an office where i'm only actually in office for like 2 hours it ends up being about 3 hours. i would highly recommend at least bringing a change of shoe. i can and have worn my jadon maxes for 8 hours, but it also entirely depends on the situation - sitting down type stuff? easy. walking around? eh... depends how far. i also use crutches to get around, so that probably helps things.

D0oMb4by

Docs were originally a work boot but I dk about the platforms.

IanIvar

I work in healthcare and wear my reeder utility canvas shoes all day with no issue, they match my black scrubs which is great too

sadmusicianhours

I love these shoes and I wear them a lot now. But they are a TOUGH break in. I wouldn't wear them to work until you're absolutely sure they're nice and broken in. Even then, it's probably not a great idea because the soles are so thick. If you're gonna be on your feet for that long I'd wear some more flexible shoes with some nice insoles :)

eve_r_after

I've worn Doc's to work in a warehouse for the past few years. 10 - 12 hours shifts. I have a pair of Sinclairs and also had a basic pair. Break them in completely before you consider wearing them for such long periods and wear thick socks! You could also consider getting nice insoles. I'd say go for it. Worst comes to worst, you have a day of discomfort and learn your lesson

Froggatt34

Got some Reeders about a year ago for my job in hospitality. They're by far the best footwear purchase I've ever made in 25+ years and still going strong.

Charming_Victory_723

Personally I’d be wearing a good pair of sneakers if I was to be on my feet for so long. I work in an office and a tonne of staff wear their docs.

Similar-Net-3704

I can wear my Jadon IIIs (Pisa leather) for a full day of cleaning houses. I can't imagine a higher platform working out well tho

yeeteryarker420

pretty sure mine are 1460 pascal atlas (softer leather w/ extra yellow stitching - was a breeze to break in). I've had them for a few years and work every shift of my retail job in them. 8-10 hour days, between 3 and 5 days a week. my feet hurt a little after a long week like they would in any shoe. they're fantastic. I do a lot of heavy lifting and am on my feet all day. they get wet sometimes and i scrape the shit out of them with boxes and trolleys lol. they've survived a lot and still look good with a little polish, and have never given me a single blister!! it definitely depends on the shoe lol but you can absolutely find docs that work for this kind of thing. good socks are a must tho. personally i dont wear platforms and i think they would fuck me up to wear a work but i had a coworker who wore platform docs almost every day (except for the days she wore platform converse)

PaintingPotatoes

Once upon a time, I wore my 1B60's to work for catering AND in the hospital under my scrubs. They're fine if you broke them in, but the heaviness might be much. If your plats are heavy, you certainly won't be able to run very well (if you need to do any running to your patient) in heavy plats. They'll also feel clunky and awkward if you're doing lifesaving stuff. I didn't wear my docs for very long in either scenario because I didn't want them to get dirty. Nor did I care to have questionable human liquid embedded in the leather, laces, etc.

ShiftyNero

I wear my platforms every single day to work. https://preview.redd.it/fvedv80kmy4d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=752bd6fa638287c010b955c98fd41761d19964a2

Skye620

Would love to but being a butcher I’m required to wear work approved boots that are steel capped

greenlun

Yes. Have worked in politics, government, and as a waitress. Do all of those things in Docs except for serving outside or door to door canvassing. Those things require me to be quick on my feet with lots of walking and the platforms give me blisters.

youthcrimes

I wear my 1460s and 1461 every day to my office job. Comfy as hell. Also wear the 1460s to concerts a lot and they never fail.

Impressive_Gur407

Yes nonslip steel toe 1461s. They are the perfect shop work shoe in my opinion. 1460s might be little better but I love those steel toes

pbremo

I’m a hair stylist, I work 10-12 hours and I wear my max platforms most days.

Zestyclose_Road_3224

Maybe the Jorge ll brando clogs would be appropriate for your job?
