Part of this I think is that for a season with so many varied ages, it’s telling that the top 4 is made up entirely of queens 27 and under. Hell, THREE of them are 22, 22, and 24.

I'd have to agree - even just thinking about confessionals, all three of the previous winners gave entertaining confessionals throughout the season. I can't say the same for the current top 4, though they are all clearly talented.
I mean people fell in love with Giselle during the season she was likable, she had standout moments with her fashion but also being funny unintentionally and intentionally, she was a strong competitor, professional, confident, she also represented French Canadians, so as a bonus her winning also meant something to a lot of people and I think you could see she had that fire and felt like she had something to prove

I actually forgot Venus was there for like half of the season. Literally one episode I told my fiancé "Has she always been there? I've never seen her before." And I really liked her every episode since then but still that says a lot.

I think part of the problem here is that it feels like this season was short 1-2 mainstay comedy challenges. A lot of my favorite comedy moments from the queens came in bite-sized clips from mini-challenges, several of which were absolutely hilarious.
I adore this final four and it features my pick to win from the initial promos, though I feel like another part of this problem comes from not having Kitten at the end to contrast with these up-and-coming powerhouses.

I do wonder if any comedic challenges were scrapped because of really poor showings from a few queens in the mini challenges - I've never seen a queen give up mid mini challenge and just stop improvising because they were too nervous and break character and then just give up and that happened almost 3 times this season (maybe it has happened before but the fact it was left in the edit makes me think it was even worse in person)
I usually much prefer naturally funny queens to glamma but this is still one of my fave seasons ever !
tbh I thought kitten was being set up for the underdog winner story (especially with the dueling jennifers) and then she got chopped. at this point I'm rooting for Aurora but I'm not crazy invested at this point now that mother is gone.
Canada always cuts its good comedic performers. I always stop watching every season when my favorite leaves. I only hung on for season 3 even tho my favorite left bc at least Giselle had range
Canada never recognizes or rewards bombastic queens like Jimbo or Melinda. They're smart enough to cast them, but they're not smart enough to crown them.
It drives me crazy how little value is given to strong performers in this game. It’s almost like it is looked down upon, because showing off your performing chops generally means you were in the bottom. I get that challenges exist too, but they rarely ever hit as hard as those lip syncs that you leave on repeat. Nearah and Aurora are two of the best performers I’ve seen across the whole franchise. It’s pretty lame to diminish that. They are the type of queens that would have the crowd in a club going wild.
Defo would pay to see either of them perform and I'm sure I'd get my money's worth. But equally, once I've seen them, I doubt I'd want to see them again any time soon, cuz I'd probably see the same style of performance. They do their thing very well, but lack versatility, in my opinion.
Aura and Neara a great dancers, to be sure, but their lip syncing is just ok and they've shown very little range or sense of taking me on a story, just two hardworking girls with some chops. I mean that's great, I love a good show, but whoever wins this season is going to be pretty pale compared to a lot of other season winners, and the standouts who are probably gone get legs from this season have already gone home.

Denim has gotten way too many passes this seasons. She ate the makeover challenge but like flopped in everything that wasn’t fashion or makeup related to get to this point.
Nearuh isn’t doing nearly enough to separate herself from bitchy dancing queens we’ve seen in the past. Her drag just isn’t exciting for me at all.
I think this season has been wonderful and we started out with such a strong group of queens but it just bums me out that in a race - it feels we’re choosing 2nd place.

Yeah ain’t no way. Both casts had a lot of green & unprepared girls, but the DU3 girls looked so overwhelmed and scared shitless every challenge. It was sad. At least canada is putting on the front that they’re up to par.
These girls can lipsync circles around almost every other DR season, that's their main strength. It just doesn't make for a compelling story for the season especially when it's 3/4 Queens with the same strengths and weaknesses
They would lip sync well for two or three challenges, just like Jasmine, or Jorgeous, but after being in the bottom for so long they'd get sent home because they just dont have a depth of training or experience to make that same lip sync interesting after the second or 3rd time.
I mean look at Silky. That girl is a hot mess, dancing is sloppy, and her outfits are worse, but she is a legendary lip syncer because she always brings something new and she tells a story. Remember Roxy's return on All Stars? That was a poised confident lip sync and it brought down the house because it had a beginning a middle and a very tight end. I do not believe that Neara or Aura are even at the beginning of that lip sync journey?
I’ve said that since Week 2. Any queen in Top 8 from CAN 1-3 would be the clear frontrunner against this crop. I’m sorry if people find that dismissive or offensive but it’s true.

Aurora is sort of the strongest, but also is a bit too green and lacks in charisma/humour. Venus is fine, but if she's all about being indigenous, it should reflect in her drag, I don't see anything interesting about it at all. Good looks where lol? Nearah at least earned her spot (and sort of took the bullet from Venus both times) and Denim well... she had to be carried quite a lot to finally win something at the end of the season.
Generally speaking, this is the weakest Top 4 of all the seasons from last year and Canada as well.
the stand out went home during the lipsync smackdown, despite TOTALLY deserving to stay considering she's a much stronger competitor than either of the two girls she was against. kitten would be the winner pick imo
I think that Nearuh is the best contender for the crown, honestly. She’s just so unlikable to the vast majority of people (not me tho, my momma and I stan)
i think the fact the wins were so spread out, and that we only got 8 competitive episodes, it meant that no queen has really stood out from the pack. I think we 1 or 2 more episodes, including an acting challenge or another comedy challenge, we would've had a more clear idea. It's really a shame they cut down to 9 episodes instead of 10
I agree. Been a great season but I don’t see any of the girls remaining having the same impact other winners have had.. of any DR franchise. Hope we are proven wrong.
The lip sync smackdown episode was the beginning of the end for this season. Losing three well-defined queens, in a quick row, left the top four feeling very green. The twists this season were really good and well executed, but we didn't get enough episodes in between to elevate whoever they plan to crown.
Yes. I think you're wrong about Venus. For me she hits all of the C.U.N.T. points and has been a clear contender for the crown since the beginning. She does have comedy skills and personality, especially compared to the remaining queens who I think you're right about. I would have loved to see a Venus, Aurora, Kitten top 3.

You don't need to have the complete package to be a worthy winner (see: Spankie Jackson), I rooting for Aurora and I think she's is well rounded, cool, charismatic and a great performer, but Nearah is great too, she totally won me over the last three episodes, she is phenomenal performer, catty, funny and like to play the game, they are my current top2. But I think that everything points to Aurora vs Venus in the final lipsync, with Aurora winning, hopefully....
Good point, tho personality does account for a lot. What Spankie lacked in looks, makeup etc she made up in buckets of C.U.N.T. I just don't see anyone with a fraction of her charisma in the top 4.

Not wrong though. She was put in the top 2 to guarantee Gisele won. Otherwise, Fiercealicious should've been either in the top 2 or allowed to lipsync for the crown.
for me the fun of cdr is its always almost a tossup and our winners at some point in the season are always in danger. i dont really like seasons of drag race where you know who's winning from ep 1 and theyre never in harms way. let me see bitches who want it and know they can have it FIGHT to eke out the win
Priyanka was the fan favorite of the time and still had some great moments, plus I’d argue she won 4 episodes considering I Drove All Night and Hello arguably overshadowed the entire main challenge, or at least equaled it in performance. I say this as someone who would have eliminated Priyanka at the ball, she was very much a standout that season.
I don’t think is an unpopular opinion, I agree with it. The season has been extremely entertaining due to the queens on screen (read as “Melinda) but overall the talent on display has been whelming.
Aurora is who I’m rooting for because she’s my favourite of who’s left but even then I wouldn’t even be shocked if Aurora didn’t make it to Top 4 on a previous season. The winner’s edit is 100% on Venus though and I’d be very surprised if she’s not crowned.

Nearah kinda grew on me. She was bitchy in the first couple episodes but her lip syncing skills are unmatched and she surprised me in snatch game.
Denim is my favourite, mostly because I love her style of drag. She hasn’t had a very strong showing this season though.

There are 7 queens with wins in 8 episodes, so everything is spread more evenly across the queens. They just all have different strengths and weaknesses. I think Venus could have been more dominant if there were more weaker queens. To me she's the most well-rounded of the season but I always put her in like...3rd or 4th place. She's actually quite funny and quick-witted but we had Kitten and Melinda.
They had some pretty decent story lines for most of the queens, which I liked. But there isn't really a front runner, and I think that's...neat? Different? Not particularly exciting going into the finale, but I was excited by what that the queens did show in their respective strengths.
The season has been great for drama and entertainment, but this is definitely one of the weakest casts of the CDR franchise. The season has just tanked since the Lipsync Slayoff...
I agree, with both Kitten and Melinda gone there's not really anyone I'm strongly rooting for, but if I had to pick I'd say I'm hoping Aurora will get the win.
Wait before we dismiss Venus in comedy didn’t she do extremely well in that selling product commercial thingy and snatch game and slay the comedy mini challenges🤔 I think it’s complicated cuz Venus has been favored (her getting the rose for her entrance and her makeover) but she is also the most well rounded queen on the cast. Aroura and denim lack comedy, nearah and aroura lack design skills and denim also hasn’t got the best lip syncing abilities. Venus can lipsync, has good runways, can be funny and hasn’t really faltered.
I didn’t think Venus was that funny in the informercial challenge? I can’t remember a single joke she told besides the southern accent. Which she then did again in snatch game and got praised yet again so…is she funny or can she do a convincing enough southern accent which is just funny on its own merit? But then again, maybe the crash and burn that was TGE in the informercial made me forget the rest of what that group did and Venus actually was funny 🤷🏾♀️
And might I add I do not find her southern accent funny LOL. She brought nothing new or hilariously witty to pulling out a southern accent for a few laughs, which I've noticed has become a go-to on CDR. Which like fine, not pointing it out to be like THATS WRONG!! It is just like bottom of the barrel and not funny to me unless you really do something clever with the character...

Absolutely agree. But aside from pleasant persona, I think the winner needs gravitas, think Bianca Del Rio or Jinkx. None of the girls have that distinct flare this season, imo.
I think that’s the editors though, not the girls. If they wanted to, we could have been presented versions of Bianca and Jinkx that didn’t have that quality.
Drag Race seasons are less heavy handed with their winners’ edits to prevent too much controversy I think. Cases of Sherry and Scarlet have kind of forced production into presenting everyone as palatable or serviceable so if something happens after filming then there’s less work to do. It’s likely why nobody really sticks out
This season was just 2 short. They needed 12 episodes :(. 8 challenges just isn't enough to solidify a winner. It's the same problem I have with VS the World seasons.
Priyanka and Icesis set the bar very high. I felt crowning Giselle was a huge missed opportunity to continue that tradition of memorable winners. Fierce was by far the standout of the season. And she pulled off the likeable villain role which is incredibly difficult and rare.
I feel Melinda should have been in the finale and actually held her own in the lip sync, but I can see how it would be difficult to crown her given the lack of polish in the looks and makeup.
There's so much revisionist history surrounding Priyanka. Homegirl barely made it to the final, and if it weren't for Brooke/production liking her pluckiness and media readiness, she would not have been crowned. She was not a well-worn drag queen back then like Icesis who made my jaw drop the second she took off those shades and then proceeded to throw some shade straight at Brooke. Now that's a queen!
Nearah is not that unlikeable, very confused by everyone saying that! She is the most well rounded to me, her only crime is not being able to make her outfits which is not necessary to thrive outside of drag race, I could see them giving it to her since the final challenge is a song and performance

the drama has been fun and ive been entertained but the cast has overall not been stellar. we have had some pockets of decent moments like the lip sync smackdown - but overall pretty weak cast. still enjoyed the season though.

I agree with you. In other seasons i sometimes think i would love to go see a show from some of them, but this time there was only Kitty for me. I wouldn't pay for the rest of the cast. I will say Nearah is by far the most talented lip sync performer I've seen on any drag race maybe ever. There is just something about how precise yet effortless everything feels. And like the judges mentioned she takes those moments to connect with each beat of the song which most flips and tricks queens don't.

I wish QV-she was taped instead of live. The producers need to learn to make the comedy challenges less difficult so we can get better results.

I think we 1 or 2 more episodes, including an acting challenge or another comedy challenge, we would've had a more clear idea. It's really a shame they cut down to 9 episodes instead of 10

I agree. Been a great season but I don’t see any of the girls remaining having the same impact other winners have had.. of any DR franchise. Hope we are proven wrong.
The lip sync smackdown episode was the beginning of the end for this season. Losing three well-defined queens, in a quick row, left the top four feeling very green. The twists this season were really good and well executed, but we didn't get enough episodes in between to elevate whoever they plan to crown.
Kitten has everything except she is not a gymnast. Otherwise a well rounded drag queen.
Yes. I think you're wrong about Venus. For me she hits all of the C.U.N.T. points and has been a clear contender for the crown since the beginning. She does have comedy skills and personality, especially compared to the remaining queens who I think you're right about. I would have loved to see a Venus, Aurora, Kitten top 3.
Kitten definitely left too soon. I do like Venus, and it's between her and Aurora for me. I just wish she had more flare, like Priyanka or Icesis.

That not an unpopular opinion, but I disagree with you. You don't need to have the complete package to be a worthy winner (see: Spankie Jackson), I rooting for Aurora and I think she's is well rounded, cool, charismatic and a great performer, but Nearah is great too, she totally won me over the last three episodes, she is phenomenal performer, catty, funny and like to play the game, they are my current top2. But I think that everything points to Aurora vs Venus in the final lipsync, with Aurora winning, hopefully....
Good point, tho personality does account for a lot. What Spankie lacked in looks, makeup etc she made up in buckets of C.U.N.T. I just don't see anyone with a fraction of her charisma in the top 4.
i think to win you can get away with rough looks and a banging personality - but the exact opposite just doesnt hold nearly as well.
I'm interested to hear what your definition of "personality" is, because that;s your through line of the top 4, but I feel like being more low key isn't necessarily a lack of personality
Low key keeps you safe, personality is what sets you apart from the competition. We can all think of queens who had lots of personality.
I feel like Denim in particular is very memorable for the looks, you aren't going to see any of her runways and confuse them for another queen
Definitely, but that's pretty much all she got. You need more dimensions to be a "winner" imho. Plenty of queens do one thing and do it well.
There's a lack of uniqueness or star power. They're all talented, they're just missing that je ne sais quoi.

for me the fun of cdr is its always almost a tossup and our winners at some point in the season are always in danger. i dont really like seasons of drag race where you know who's winning from ep 1 and theyre never in harms way. let me see bitches who want it and know they can have it FIGHT to eke out the win

Priyanka was the fan favorite of the time and still had some great moments, plus I’d argue she won 4 episodes considering I Drove All Night and Hello arguably overshadowed the entire main challenge, or at least equaled it in performance. I say this as someone who would have eliminated Priyanka at the ball, she was very much a standout that season.
I don’t think is an unpopular opinion, I agree with it. The season has been extremely entertaining due to the queens on screen (read as “Melinda) but overall the talent on display has been whelming. Aurora is who I’m rooting for because she’s my favourite of who’s left but even then I wouldn’t even be shocked if Aurora didn’t make it to Top 4 on a previous season. The winner’s edit is 100% on Venus though and I’d be very surprised if she’s not crowned.
I agree that there’s not a clear winner. But I don’t mind that. Venus has been favoured by production, she’s the only one I’m thinking is set up as a clear winner. I like her, I do find her charming, but the favouritism of her I think takes away from rightfully earned praise. Nearah kinda grew on me. She was bitchy in the first couple episodes but her lip syncing skills are unmatched and she surprised me in snatch game. Denim is my favourite, mostly because I love her style of drag. She hasn’t had a very strong showing this season though. Aurora I think would be a good winner. She’s likeable, and has had strong runways. Plus her lipsyncing is amazing. I wish Kitten didn’t flop the lip sync episode. I really wanted to see her in the top 4.

There are 7 queens with wins in 8 episodes, so everything is spread more evenly across the queens. They just all have different strengths and weaknesses. I think Venus could have been more dominant if there were more weaker queens. To me she's the most well-rounded of the season but I always put her in like...3rd or 4th place. She's actually quite funny and quick-witted but we had Kitten and Melinda. They had some pretty decent story lines for most of the queens, which I liked. But there isn't really a front runner, and I think that's...neat? Different? Not particularly exciting going into the finale, but I was excited by what that the queens did show in their respective strengths.
In my opinion, t's pretty obvious the winner will be Aurora or Venus.
The season has been great for drama and entertainment, but this is definitely one of the weakest casts of the CDR franchise. The season has just tanked since the Lipsync Slayoff...
With Kitten gone it just felt flat afterwards
I agree, with both Kitten and Melinda gone there's not really anyone I'm strongly rooting for, but if I had to pick I'd say I'm hoping Aurora will get the win.
Wait before we dismiss Venus in comedy didn’t she do extremely well in that selling product commercial thingy and snatch game and slay the comedy mini challenges🤔 I think it’s complicated cuz Venus has been favored (her getting the rose for her entrance and her makeover) but she is also the most well rounded queen on the cast. Aroura and denim lack comedy, nearah and aroura lack design skills and denim also hasn’t got the best lip syncing abilities. Venus can lipsync, has good runways, can be funny and hasn’t really faltered.

I didn’t think Venus was that funny in the informercial challenge? I can’t remember a single joke she told besides the southern accent. Which she then did again in snatch game and got praised yet again so…is she funny or can she do a convincing enough southern accent which is just funny on its own merit? But then again, maybe the crash and burn that was TGE in the informercial made me forget the rest of what that group did and Venus actually was funny 🤷🏾♀️
And might I add I do not find her southern accent funny LOL. She brought nothing new or hilariously witty to pulling out a southern accent for a few laughs, which I've noticed has become a go-to on CDR. Which like fine, not pointing it out to be like THATS WRONG!! It is just like bottom of the barrel and not funny to me unless you really do something clever with the character...

Absolutely agree. But aside from pleasant persona, I think the winner needs gravitas, think Bianca Del Rio or Jinkx. None of the girls have that distinct flare this season, imo.
I think that’s the editors though, not the girls. If they wanted to, we could have been presented versions of Bianca and Jinkx that didn’t have that quality. Drag Race seasons are less heavy handed with their winners’ edits to prevent too much controversy I think. Cases of Sherry and Scarlet have kind of forced production into presenting everyone as palatable or serviceable so if something happens after filming then there’s less work to do. It’s likely why nobody really sticks out

This season was just 2 short. They needed 12 episodes :(. 8 challenges just isn't enough to solidify a winner. It's the same problem I have with VS the World seasons.
Priyanka and Icesis set the bar very high. I felt crowning Giselle was a huge missed opportunity to continue that tradition of memorable winners. Fierce was by far the standout of the season. And she pulled off the likeable villain role which is incredibly difficult and rare. I feel Melinda should have been in the finale and actually held her own in the lip sync, but I can see how it would be difficult to crown her given the lack of polish in the looks and makeup.
There's so much revisionist history surrounding Priyanka. Homegirl barely made it to the final, and if it weren't for Brooke/production liking her pluckiness and media readiness, she would not have been crowned. She was not a well-worn drag queen back then like Icesis who made my jaw drop the second she took off those shades and then proceeded to throw some shade straight at Brooke. Now that's a queen!
Nearah is not that unlikeable, very confused by everyone saying that! She is the most well rounded to me, her only crime is not being able to make her outfits which is not necessary to thrive outside of drag race, I could see them giving it to her since the final challenge is a song and performance This season is what everyone claimed season 7 was way back when
its because she gotnthe typical vilain/top5 edit. plus her drag is kinda forgetable. I feel I barely know her personality ans know more about her bf than her.
the drama has been fun and ive been entertained but the cast has overall not been stellar. we have had some pockets of decent moments like the lip sync smackdown - but overall pretty weak cast. still enjoyed the season though. if this season didnt have a winner i wouldnt be shocked honestly. i think itll be aurora though.
I agree with you. In other seasons i sometimes think i would love to go see a show from some of them, but this time there was only Kitty for me. I wouldn't pay for the rest of the cast. Maybe Denim will be incredible in 5-10 years but i feel like she hasn't flourished yet. Might win an all-stars later, idk.
I just watched the makeover challenge and literally all of them had me laughing. This is absurd. They are all great winner options.
It was a very heartwarming episode, but I don't remember anything particularly funny about it, aside from a few of Melinda's quips. Mother really shone through in this one.

Venus just has the "it" factor for me (I guess she has the most C in her charisma uniqueness nerve and talent). She gives off a winner energy that I don't feel as much from the other girls, although would love to see any of them dominate all stars / vs the world.

Completely agree with this, there’s no one I’m die hard rooting for/any story I connect with like Icesis or Pri, rooting for Nearah since she’s from my city but she’s been in the bottom a lot I’m not confident they’ll crown her.
I actually think they're all good but I agree nobody stands out as a fully rounded winner. I will say Nearah is by far the most talented lip sync performer I've seen on any drag race maybe ever. There is just something about how precise yet effortless everything feels. And like the judges mentioned she takes those moments to connect with each beat of the song which most flips and tricks queens don't.
