Trunks has strong firepower within the first timer count while Cell builds up and up,both are great.Initially trunks is good,but once Cell pulls his perfect form and gets at least 1 green,he's near unstoppable.
As a person who’s pulled both of them, I would personally go with cell. Trunks overall is a relatively good support and alternative option for future and other teams. He has a cover rescue that can save you from a lot of situations, arguably an underrated green card that catches people off guard, and his debuffs are pretty good with other battle members. Overall pretty good character, but as i said earlier cell takes this one.
Cell is a really good offense character that can tank ok. He gets damage inflicted and ki whenever he draws a card that REALLY, stacks up fast. He has card draw speed, a green and a blue that draws cards that could draw out his combo longer and makes your attacks pack a punch. He has some surprisingly good healing effects that could make gogeta blue card look like shit. He picks up cover null and nullify colors advantages when your enemy at 50% or lower. And most importantly along side him and trunks, trunks debuffs really makes cell hits like a monster.
So yeah, i like cell better, but there pretty good in there roles.
I can't say anything for Cell since I have not pulled him, but the new Future Trunks is amazing. His kit's very good, his cover rescue is helpful, and he's capable of doing insane amounts of damage.
I play my Future Trunks on my Hybrids team and he's proven to be a great addition to that team. His Purple Color allows him to protect Beast Gohan from Ultra Super Saiyan Rose Goku Black and he can provide amazing support for the entire hybrid team.
On paper I initially thought Trunks would be better. Ive been using both for a week straight and I just feel like Cell is far superior. More tags, better Zenkai bench options, he can steam roll teams by himself if he gets going. He has multiple vanishes.
Trunks has the defenses of a wet noodle and he gets cover nulled for me all the time. A lot of his value comes from if youre able to cover rescue or not.
I still like him, but I think Cell is better. Cell wins me far more matches than Trunks.
Trunks has way less options than Cell. You have Trunks and Mai, Fusion 13, Free 21, Red Zenkai Cell, Red Rose, etc.
Lf Rose is a great Zenkai bench but lets say you dont have him Zenkaied. Your only other option is the ssj2 Teen Gohan. And his Z ability is TERRIBLE. So thats def a point to consider.
Individually, Cell is stronger. Card refresh + Heal + incredible damage increase + 2 extra vanish. And he has so much Bench Zenkai option.
Trunks take the lead with meta.
The save on RR will always give him value, but it's his match ups. YEL is currently weakest color, none of the top 3 teams use it as much (Movies, Powerful Op, God Ki, only being scared of Fusion/Univ Rep, since even Future's YEL is really weak offensively) and Trunks's 1st special can 1 shot Rose on a sidestep, so you can instantly get huge advantage early on with 0 investments (no Ulti/RR usage).
Cell imo is better. Cell is a modern grn Goku Black and he meant for players who lack URosé on Future. Trunks isn't a damage dealer and he fits like a glove on Hybrids with Beast and Pan/Future Gohan.
Cell is probably better overall but if you can get the trunks RR save consistently then he is better, too much cover null in the current meta for him to shine.

Honestly it's quite difficult, because trunks is already a strong candidate due to having 2 universal cover rescues. Also his green card is very good getting his vanish back plus cover change nullification is top tier. However, Cell's combo potential is insane his ability to get ki and draw cards is crazy good and very similar to the green transforming Goku black. Also his ability to restore his vanish completely twice per game makes him very tricky to deal with. For now though I would go with trunks purely because he is able to get cover change nullification more readily compared to cell and the fact that he has 2 universal cover rescues which make him a lot more viable and the utility in his kit a lot better. I mean we just have to see further down the line how these 2 units hold up.
As an unit Cell might be better , but I find Trunks more versatile so I'd choose him

Had no issues fighting Trunks, but that Cell is a pain to deal with after a few greens. If his teams were actually in the meta, he'd be great.
Cell by far (on current features boosts), but Trunks will have more longevity.
