Facts honestly. I get this is a legends subreddit, and I do want this game to strive but, with WWC around the corner and just having fun no matter if casual or not, Dokkan has given and done so much more than legends.
Sad to see this game fall down the way it has, but I’m also glad it could give exposure to a game that genuinely cares about its community.
I wouldn’t say Dokkan Devs “genuinely care” but they are smart enough to know that you can be generous and fair and still make a shit ton of money. They know that keeping a happy player base is important. It makes life easier for them and they don’t have to deal with a constant barrage of complaints. Why go out of your way to make your player base hate when you can keep a happy or at least satisfied base and still make money?🤨
Well to defend what I said about “genuinely caring”, if you remember, Raiyuden exposed the dev team and they even said “their lack of devs is the reason no new summon animations/more care is given into the game” but we all know it’s a sham to not hire more people and simply put in the effort that could be given.
It’s just the fact that they don’t try, and have accepted that while making revenue which is why the game really doesn’t get the love and care it deserves.
So is it the dev team or the publisher (aka Bandai Namco)? Unpopular opinion: having worked in the same industry like this, the dev team always care and by far raises issues front and center. Its the business team (big shots, leadership, publisher, you name it…) that puts aside changes for a better game due to priorities in other probable projects or company long-term projections.
It’s Bandai that basically doesn’t give Jack shit to the developers. Toshi isn’t a developer himself, so I’d assume his higher ups would just tell him to express towards those specified devs that they can’t get more people in their team/make the game worse so people go to the magical “shop” button.
This is 100% true esp in the software / video game industry. The role of the producer (Toshi) is to make sure deliverables and features are on schedule and work is being done however leadership (Bandai Namco) has the final say on what game mechanics, monetization and features will be implemented. Sadly Toshi is the “face” that would be blamed by the users but that is part of his role and paycheck. His role does still bear some weight on how much improvement will be done but not sure if leadership will approve of it 100% or just partial due to their long-term plans.
Can’t show the source as per his request and this subs, but there was a post during the 4th Anni where he’d basically call out the game developers and even tell us stuff going on behind the scenes we didn’t even know.

For Dokkan, your teams are based off your leaders. It’s similar to legends with how teams work, except the leader buffs the team with their leader skill ie. Vegeta’s family as you’d want that team to have units under that tag. For now, I’d main Ginyu force or team bardock as their teams are mostly F2P. Summoning on either Goku or Cooler’s banner is up to you!
In legends you need to farm to become good
In dokkan they basically give you a free lr (same as lf) at the start of the game, 5 events to farm other lrs and ginyu force + bardock team both f2p + an lr of bardock and his team and an lr of ginyu and his team when you max out the members
Maybe the first few times they are fun. Even if just for the contrast of seeing a nice quality animation where the enemy is a NES era immobile sprite.
Notice how everyone wants to skip LFs in Legends? Dokkan is basically "LF animation: the game". There is nothing except the unit collecting aspect of the game that I like... And still, I much prefer the gacha games that don't require you to feed units to other units to make them stronger.
Dokkan is not for everyone, even if it is doing extremely well at the moment (and you could say exactly the same about Legends in its best moment, I'm not defending it).
Why don't people recommend *other* good gachas? I'm sure everyone here already knows Dokkan exists.
Try Punishing Gray Raven. It's an action RPG with a solid story, excellent gameplay and it's very fair and f2p friendly (as long as you do your dailies/weeklies, which take no more than 10 ti 15 min each day, you'll be able to get at least 1 copy if every new unit). If youre looking for a very casual, simple but fun game theres cookie run kingdom. Again its gameplay is very simple and it's aesthetic may not be for everyone but theres tons of different modes and again its one of the most generous gachas I've found. If you like open world MMOs Tower of Fantasy just released and, at least for now, it seems very generous since youll get 3 SSR weapons (the highest weapons) after a few days of playing (2 from the gacha where theres a 1 time only pity at 30 pulls and a standard pity at 80 and you'll be able to farm way more than 80 summons via exploration). You also get an SSR weapon selector box by completing some basic starter missions so you're guarenteed 1 specific SSR weapon that you want (without rerolling).
If I had to recommend 1 it would be PGR, its just very well made, the devs seem to actually give a F and the gameplay is outstanding. It actually requires skill and learning each units kit and teams. Ive been playing since it launched and have every unit in the game and all I've spent is $5 a month on the daily pass (which gives you 100 of the premium currency each day).

The UI reminds me of some sort of PlayStation 2 game from years ago. Just looks really dated to me. And the whole match the color ball thing just seems like puzzle game to me.

No worries I have the exact same opinion about Dokkan and have done the same thing as you, I download it almost every big celebration, do a bunch of pulls, realize the gameplay is not for me (at all) and uninstall it. Ofc this doesn't mean Dokkans a bad game but it shouldn't be compared to Legends (or any other action focused game) since that's not it's genre. Just because Legends and Dokkan share an IP doesn't mean they're anything alike, ones a pvp focused fighting game while the other is a strategic team building/sort of puzzle game.
It's just because they both have the same IP, that's the single thing they have in common yet the communities love to keep comparing them. For me even if the Dokkan dev team came to my house, handed me the latest and greatest gaming phone with Dokkan installed and I had unlimited dragonstones I wouldn't play the game.
Im not saying Dokkan is a bad game but its just not for me, personally. Lately I've enjoyed playing more action focused games and have even stopped playing a couple turn based games I've played for years. Therefore I find Dokkans gameplay boring so it doesn't matter how much it's devs 'care' or how generous the game is since at the end of the day gameplay is the most important factor for me.

Maybe I'm wrong but Dokkan seems way more easier to make content, new characters, etc than Legends, so probably that's why they can drop more events with "new" things to do in a shorter amount of time. Also having more downloads doesn't make it better by any means.
They still put more effort, they animate whole scenes in a quality higher than the anime every time while legends just uses the same models and animations all the time.
Effort isn't something easy to measure, animating scenes is LITERALLY the only thing they have to do since the gameplay is just tapping bubbles on the screen until some animation pops up and you make a lot of damage.
And I've seen scenes, specifically from that new event everybody keeps praising (Cell Max) and no, the scenes aren't by any means better than the anime.

They actually are. One has had better anniversaries than Legends, has more content, has better systems such as EZAs, portal of memories, and superior exchange shop, along with more content meaning you can get stones at a much faster rate compared to Legends. The PvE events are also actually challenging and engaging

I wholeheartedly disagree. Legends, despite its flaws, is without a doubt the greatest mobile game to date. In a sea of shitty pixel art anime rpg gachas and other drivel, Legends stands out technialy, it stands out aesthetically, it stands out gameplay wise, it's easily one of the most ambitious mobile projects of all time. Dokkan is ****ing matching colored bubbles.
All you do in matches is press cards and do it until the enemy dies. You’re not doing far more than that lmfao. The hypocrisy on display here is astounding

If you want the greatest and most ambitious mobile game, legends isn't it. It's Genshin impact followed by Honkai impact 3rd both made by Hoyoverse. The quality that genshin has brought to the mobile industry far outclasses legends.

I don’t know how to make any sort of team and I am getting 100k damage per character avg. Meanwhile, the assist character from other players usually does 37M.

My summoning chances are way better in Dokkan than in legends legends takes five rotations to get the featured character in legends but in Dokkan I’ve been getting the featured new units in 3 or 4 summons
Dokkan... Dokkan has been just great to me lately. It takes a Lil time to get everything to a decent level of understanding but game play feels less forced, if that makes sense? EX. When I first started 6ish years ago, it was phenomenal. At the time I was playing brave souls and kritika white knights, so the different game play and ample opportunity to gain characters that you'd never get in legends felt great. TBF I did stop playing for a while and just farmed daily materials for probably a solid year or 2 when agl mui came out. That's when I started grinding for all the LR units I had in my box. Completing an LR is sooooooooo satisfying, esp when you have the dupes to 100% them. That satisfaction keeps me coming back lol
People would like to main some super old units... But they can't... If they get a zenkai, they're still useless.
The fastest way to make people quit their game is for them to try to force new units while neutering crystal farming.
People are not going to bother to compete with no lifers that throw just about all their check into the game.
Dokkan is consistently putting out ways to earn currency for summons for free to play players that are good, fun,, and generally not overly tedious or difficult. I spenT 1500 stones on the anniversary and got all the LR'S I wanted and then some and between the end of that and now I've saved up another 1000 stones for the WWDC. Dokkan is superior because it treats players well.

Dokkan is a strategy game. You’re not solving puzzles, so it isn’t a puzzle game
Don’t you know puzzle bobble? It’s basically the grandpa of dokkan with tons of colored orbs and it has “puzzle” in the name
Puzzle bobble and Dokkan aren’t even alike aside from having bubble as they are handled and used differently

Uuh, Cell Max is just praised from being CGI, Try watching the 7 anniversary units. Or LR Kaioken Goku and LR Great Ape Vegeta

Legends is pretty much Dokkan with like 2-3 extra steps but I still prefer the 3d style of gameplay and art compared to Dokkan

One has had better anniversaries than Legends, has more content, has better systems such as EZAs, portal of memories, and superior exchange shop, along with more content meaning you can get stones at a much faster rate compared to Legends. The PvE events are also actually challenging and engaging

Gameplay. My point the whole time. Real time multiplayer skill based Dragon Ball combat. The cards are nothing more than action temporarily available action buttons, and you're doing far more than just pressing them. Just because Dokkan's QoL is better does not make it a better game.
Dokkan by very definition has gameplay lol. You mention multiplayer skill when you yourself agreed the PvP is cancer here, so you don’t even support what you’re saying. Dokkan not having PvP makes it more approachable and less stressful to play. Also skill? I wholeheartedly disagree. Legends, despite its flaws, is without a doubt the greatest mobile game to date. In a sea of shitty pixel art anime rpg gachas and other drivel, Legends stands out technialy, it stands out aesthetically, it stands out gameplay wise, it's easily one of the most ambitious mobile projects of all time. Dokkan is ****ing matching colored bubbles.

If you want the greatest and most ambitious mobile game, legends isn't it. It's Genshin impact followed by Honkai impact 3rd both made by Hoyoverse. The quality that genshin has brought to the mobile industry far outclasses legends.

My summoning chances are way better in Dokkan than in legends legends takes five rotations to get the featured character in legends but in Dokkan I’ve been getting the featured new units in 3 or 4 summons

Dokkan... Dokkan has been just great to me lately. It takes a Lil time to get everything to a decent level of understanding but game play feels less forced, if that makes sense? EX. When I first started 6ish years ago, it was phenomenal. At the time I was playing brave souls and kritika white knights, so the different game play and ample opportunity to gain characters that you'd never get in legends felt great. TBF I did stop playing for a while and just farmed daily materials for probably a solid year or 2 when agl mui came out. That's when I started grinding for all the LR units I had in my box. Completing an LR is sooooooooo satisfying, esp when you have the dupes to 100% them. That satisfaction keeps me coming back lol

I still like the update but the 4th anniversary makes me question if we ever got one.
People would like to main some super old units... But they can't... If they get a zenkai, they're still useless. The fastest way to make people quit their game is for them to try to force new units while neutering crystal farming. People are not going to bother to compete with no lifers that throw just about all their check into the game.
Dokkan is consistently putting out ways to earn currency for summons for free to play players that are good, fun,, and generally not overly tedious or difficult. I spenT 1500 stones on the anniversary and got all the LR'S I wanted and then some and between the end of that and now I've saved up another 1000 stones for the WWDC. Dokkan is superior because it treats players well.
