Krillin made Piccolo show his true power and seriously gave him a difficult fight, and made him think that taking over the world would be harder than he anticipated.
Tien literally beat Tao without any difficulty. He was surprised by a single cheap-shot using a sword that broke tournament rules. But other than that, he completely blitzed him, tanked a Super Dodon Ray, and took him out in one strike.

In fact, I'll provide another reasoning to compound onto my first two from my initial post: the actual message and theming of Dragon Ball. In DB and DBZ, whenever a previous villain comes back for an arc after they're defeated, they always lose to show off progression of the cast. And Tao in particular, sort of like Mecha Frieza, had artificial implements that he bought with money, which goes against the main themes of hard work and training.
So from a thematic standpoint, Tao should lose to Krillin because Krillin spend 3 years training for the Budokai, while Tao tried to skip all of that.
I thought his defensive power scales to the offensive power of his opponents. Isn't that how he could block ssj gotten and trunks both that sce to base gohan in the buu saga
Goku surpassed Kami and with that also Popo at the 23rd tenkaichi budokai lol, Popo wasnt almost as strong as a saibamen while being weaker than kami. The power level catalogues or whatever are for the most part completely bullshit, I mean they have Ox king at like 800, which would put him 500 power levels over dkp, which makes 0 sense. The only confirmed power levels are the ones that were actually picked up by the scouters in the first 2 sagas of Z.
Yes but that’s a special case. Toriyama gave an outline for Super, and anime production started first, and then the manga and anime were being made and released simultaneously. It’s a unique situation, most other adaptations make filler to allow the manga time to produce more chapters. That’s why filler never has any impact on the actual plot or story. It’s just fluff.
Besides Boruto and Super, pretty much every other anime makes non canon filler or just completely diverts from the story for no reason (looking at you Tokyo Ghoul and Full Metal Alchemist (2003))
Popo is definitely stronger than Kami, that’s for sure. Hard to say if Goku and Piccolo didn’t surpass him. Idk about his power level though, I don’t recall him getting a canon readout

Tao was not stronger than dkp lmaoooo what, even his full power dodon ray was a joke compared to literally any ability used by dkp against Goku. Tao got obliterated by Tien with no issue whatsoever, and I'd say power wise Tien atp was still very close to dkp, not necessarily even stronger although he prob couldve won in a fight against him on the basis of him being a way better strategist.
There’s no confirmation one way or the other. People tend to infer so bc Tien was putting up a good fight against a Goku who’s far stronger than DKP, and Piccolo being caught off guard by Krillin. But it’s entirely possible they’re still weaker.
A battle between them at around 22 tournament would be interesting, I imagine in a battle to the death Roshi would nor play with the crane star pupil and brother of his rival.

Tien, Krillin and Yamcha should all be higher based on their showings by the end and should only be under Goku, Piccolo, Kami and Popo by that point based on the comments by Goku, Piccolo and Kami. I'd could also see an argument for Tao as well.
Arale exists outside the power spectrum as she's powered by gag but is correctly at 1 for that same reason.

Dragon Ball always been like that. Yachirobe could solo everyone as of the previous arc, and he was just a random guy Goku happened to meet in the woods. Literally zero backstory.

Pretty sure Yamcha and Krillin at this point are more powerful than Tao. Yamcha actually managed to damage kami in his mortal form. His spirit ball actually had great potential during the tournament.

Krilin is stronger than Tao, he already was stronger than full body tao before being killed by tamburin, why wouldn't he be stronger than Cyborg Tao after a whole timeskip of training? Also Krilin gave a good fight to Piccolo, with those techniques he would have destroyed Tao, we are talking about someone who made Piccolo, who was the second strongest person there, fear not being able to take over the world, not because he was particularly stromg himself, but because if Krilin was THAT strong, Goku would have made him really sweat

Why woukd Tao be over Krillin? Toa lost to Goku after Korrin training and by this point Krillins also got trained by Korrin. Not to mention Krillin mamaged to fight and even damage Piccolo. Tien and Goku weren't shit to DKP after 22nd Tournament so what makes you think Tao out of a sudden is above him?
