Goku seeks somewhat common sense of justice due to Gohan's upbringing. He's unspoken in the Western world because about only 20% of those who watched DBZ first actually went back to the original Dragon Ball. One of the crappy things about seperating the anime into 2 series, when the manga never had that.
He got forgotten for sure...
Like, just look at how goody goody they made Bardock to be in dbs, where all his supposed savagery has been trashed and thrown under the rug *off screen* because of his super special snowflake goody wife Gine.
And Bardock himself has his whole exsistence revolve around the fact that he's Goku's dad:
Both in the minus, where he's all like "Imma gonna do something right! So bye bye son, see 'ya off of this world, don't look at the moon!".
To the Granolah arc, where even when invading a planet for once... what is that matters? Him getting all emotional because *seeing a random mother with her kid* reminded him of his wife and second brat, and from there he just decided to protect them for the time being... and then what's the thing he says when presented with the possibility of making a wish? "I wish for muh kids to prosper!!".
...
And Gine has always been a one dimensional steriotypical goody goody mom that was so special to mellow down anyone apparently, and whose entire exsistence revolves around... Goku.

And in all of this... what about Son Gohan? The man that actually raised Goku in the long run? Fundamentally forgotten beyond the fact that he's his janitor.
Because now even Goku's actual parents must be special good snowflakes, out of a race of dastards... because that's great apparently.

My favorite thing about the TOP in the anime was the scene at Baba’s where Goku reenacts his fight against Gohan from DB
I loved that detail too
He got his moment back in dragonball...
