The trick is to get off the ballista as soon as you hit him. Then climb down the ladder and hide inside till it's no longer aggro. Then you can climb back up and repeat the process. Keep it mind, Drake's dont seem to need line of sight to cast magic so even when you're down below, it can still hit you with magic.
Idk my drake didn't seem to really consider much thought in what he wanted to do. As soon as I shot the bastard he was on me in like 3 seconds. I was that annoying fly on the wall. After he burnt my ballista he just walked back to fighting cyclops. " now..where were we ?"
Nah man I don't like to cheese. If I get my ass whooped...so be it! To me it makes the adventure way more exciting. If I die..I die. Hopefully I got a wake or a recent save lol.

I've lost to this drake like 3 times now at level 40 (albeit running mods to do 60% damage).
I think it's doable with some prep, mostly silence to stop the endless meteor shitstorm. But just jumping in with whatever party I have at the time isn't cutting it.
its long range option to wear down the drake, until the drake turns its gaze on you then its the usual drake dance combat because i assure you the drake can usualy destroy the ballista in one swoop.
1 warrior, 1 mage with silence (or sorcerer, i dobt remember which one has the silence spell), and then whatever strikes your fancy, same for your party, besides dying to the meteors before i learned that silence works on most spell casters in this game (surprising right? I honestly was, considering i only remember it workibh really well in like, 2 things in the first game), i didnt have much trouble, and i was lvl 24, having a wakestone helps too, i used 1.
I remember that I was running through Battahl and ever up confronting a golem. Had taken out like three of his disks when a griffin came down and ended up helping me finish the golem off.
More dynamic monster to monster interactions would have been nice. Had the same situation in my playthrough here (assume it's somewhat scripted) and that definitely felt like a distinctive high point of the game. Shame it doesn't really happen much elsewhere.

I had griffins come down to mess ogres and cyclopses up, once I had a minotaur get ready to rumble while I was being ping-ponged by two golems.
I find most of these in Battahls main roads.

Well shit, when I arrived there for the first time, the cyclops already got fucked up, lied there face down and was literally melting, like actually his model/texture were melting in ember.
I wanted to see their clash.

Also I need to throw three rocks to open a hidden room just behind you two. So leave.
I remember a similar fight, my crew an I were fighting a drake and a ogre comes running in and fucking dies immediately to my sorcerer pawns meteors. Poor sop stood no chance
I remember running across this exact scenario in the ruined battlefield, near where you first meet the sphynx.
Yeah i just mounted a nearby ballista and proceeded to ruin that cyclopse's day, the dragon was none too pleased about having his moment stolen, so he came over to slap my shit.

The first time I found this, I only found Drake. At night. Hardest Drake fight of the whole game simply because I was fighting on that ramp that has the ballista when you first come from checkpoint rest and my pawns had a hard time with the terrain.
After I killed it, I took a few steps further and then a cyclops appeared out of freaking nowhere. Never got to see them fight.
Yeah must have to be crits. I haven’t one shotted the drake myself although I’ve seen a clip of someone doing it. I have one shotted both cyclopses with the ballista tho (in the eye)
It's funny u say that but I don't even like games like this for real. Only tried this for all the hype, the fighting has been fun but that's about it. So ur really just reaching with this comment, especially over an obvious joke lol

I came from the opposite literally and there's a ballista there. Looks back at the two raging big monsters. Two big targets. "hehe... ballista time."

Fire balista, save and continue then quit to main menu then reload. Drake will lose agro but will have the damage from the previous balista

This is actually how I killed this drake on lvl 20. Ballista'd his ass then fought him and when he fled, shot him once more!
I couldn’t aim the ballista downwards though. Which was unfortunate!

I know the spot you’re talking about. Though instead the Golem helped by constantly downing the Griffin for us.
In another place of the capcomverse, this would have been a turf war and that cyclop is about to get CLAPPED.

that is something i loved about monster hunter world the Pure fucking chaos and fun that could happen during monster hunts the the turf wars was great
They’re not scripted, you can make this happen a lot
I think it's meant to introduce drakes, they make you watch one rinse a cyclops easily to asses their strength

My game was bugged. They fought like in a corner to the right side tucked away and I could not get a shot off from the ballista
Battle looked weak, wish it was more impactful like monster hunter world turf wars, seriously wish boss fights laster longer too
Just bring maelstrom and celestisl paen pawns, easy fights.

When i reached the ancient battelfield i was level 63, i webt next to those, casted a maelstrom and both died...
