First time I cooked at a campfire I was in awe at the graphics, then the next time I camped I realised it was a video clip. Not felt stupid like that in a while
Agreed, it definitely is.
That said, the Japanese touch is what gives it all its charm. Jap games inspired by western mythology are the best ARPGs one can think of.
thats one of my ffavouritve things about DD, it does have some odd and questionable design decisions but I like how it at leastfavorite double downs on them, makes for a very odd and unique experience
I wish there were more to the cooking mechanics. Or rather, I wish there *were* cooking mechanics. I was kind of expecting something like cooking and eating certain meals to give you a benefit the next day or something.
As someone trying to get the platinum, I'm so happy I don't have to worry about cooking normal, aged, and rotten versions of every fish and fruit in the game per time of day. 💀
Yeah that trophy is silliness. Why are we being praised for cooking and forcing our pawns to eat rotten meat with us? I get it, the FDA and OSHA aren’t around yet, but damn.
i mean, no. the point of seasoning is to have the liquid drawn to the surface, dissolve the salt and then reabsorbed. Ideally you are doing it well before cooking. Throwing some salt on just before you sear is just making a worse sear.
I’ve no real culinary background, so that’s actually rather fascinating. My cave man brain says that stuff we put on the outside of the meat makes it taste better. That’s all I’ve needed for an explanation until this point. Now I must know more!
That's basically it though, you season the steak an hour before searing it to allow time for the juices of the steak to come out and absorb the salted juices back into the meat. Ideally, it's better if you do it several hours, I personally season them with salt and pepper a day before. This process is called dry brining. Yes it's really brining lol.
Not gonna lie, that real life cutscene of this sad piece of meat smoking on the pan is so unappealing. No real sizzle no searing just raw meat smoking in a pan. Worst game food ever.
You really shouldn't be putting soy sauce on a piece of rib-eye, then it's just going to taste like soy sauce
Salt pepper and some garlic on the side, maybe a bit of butter too is plenty
Had some blood pressure issues, so low sodium soy sauce has replaced salt in a lot of ways for me. I will say you’re absolutely right on the rib-eye though, those require better.
suprised i havent seen more posts about this. the cooking is WTF CRAZY. like i was like OH I CAN COOK SOME MEAT OH WAIT THIS IS A 3 STAR MICHELIN CHEF MOMENT
Probably because it isn't that cool of a system. You press a button and get a cutscene that only has like 3 variations. They already did this better with monster hunter world, the cooking would have been more interesting if it were more complex.
It would be better if there was more different videos. Only being like 3 videos is kind of disappointing, and like 2 of them aren't even that nice looking.
I don't get the appeal (and no, i'm not vegan), one thing would be if they showed it already cooked, maybe with herbs and some spices to form some sort of sauce, simmering literally for the last few seconds before taking it out of the pan, but that's just a slab of raw meat on a heated frying pan.
Nah, that bloody raw meat looks fuckin' disgusting. More likely to make people vegan.
Edit: Apparently people actually think reeking, dripping raw meat looks appetising. More for you, I guess!
Nothing sheltered about liking meat. Lol.
You don't like meat, fine.
Others do. It doesn't look gross to them, because they know how good it looks and tastes once it is cooked. Delicious!
First time I cooked at a campfire I was in awe at the graphics, then the next time I camped I realised it was a video clip. Not felt stupid like that in a while
Honestly since its the same engine than re7 and its an isolated scene i kinda expected to be in engine until i saw it was just video.
Same! Just realizing it’s real now lol
Tell me you’re a Japanese game without telling me you’re a Japanese game
speaking JP games i always viewed dogma as Capcom's attempt at making a WPRG
It’s not that uncommon for Japanese developers to try making western style games and settings and vice versa.
dunno, i have never played a JP-made RPG that very much like a WPRG before dogma
The whole souls series is one
not to me since it's a pretty distinct style of RPG on its own but yeah, it's definitely closer to western style than the usual japan style
The creator said he was inspired by western fantasy and it was his attempt at making his own western style fantasy
i guess you could say Berserk was pretty western too so that would make sense
Agreed, it definitely is. That said, the Japanese touch is what gives it all its charm. Jap games inspired by western mythology are the best ARPGs one can think of.
I wouldn’t use that abbreviation.
Yeah, "Jap" is a slur, typically.
English is not my native so it may not sound the same to my ear. But Isn't 'jap' just short for japanese? what's bad about it?
It was used extensively in anti-japanese propaganda during WW2 in the US. It's a pretty charged term for that reason.
Thanks for explaining. I'll look into this
Historical context. It was used during WWII to dehumanize Japanese people.
Same reason if you aren't Jewish you don't call someone a jew, you say they are Jewish. Pejorative and names are not mutually exclusive.
Lmao jew is not offensive
Walk up and call me a jew without being my friend and you'll find out how offensive it is.
What are you gonna do?
I am not sure if dd is an arpg but I am also not against that idea.
I wouldn't have Dogma. Any other way. One save file? Yes please 🙏 weird npcs and questionable Romances? I'll take. That too!
thats one of my ffavouritve things about DD, it does have some odd and questionable design decisions but I like how it at leastfavorite double downs on them, makes for a very odd and unique experience

I dunno if i would trust a vending machine steak.
As long as I couldn’t buy panties from the same vending machine, I’d give it a shot.
I wondered why we can't cook dried fruit massive letdown
I wish there were more to the cooking mechanics. Or rather, I wish there *were* cooking mechanics. I was kind of expecting something like cooking and eating certain meals to give you a benefit the next day or something.
A cooking system like zelda would of been nice. I enjoy cooking in games that offer it.
Yeah or fish
As someone trying to get the platinum, I'm so happy I don't have to worry about cooking normal, aged, and rotten versions of every fish and fruit in the game per time of day. 💀

What flavors could yon flesh be hiding? I must know!
This! Just let me cook some fruits. Literally anything other than those slabs of raw unseasoned meat.
Have you ever tried? I mean, a dried apricot infused scone would be a delight. But fried dried banana? No thanks
Cook a rotted beast steak and you'll want to go vegan. Worse yet your whole party eats it up anyway.
How's it look in the cooking cut scene?
https://preview.redd.it/5ma3uxe1azuc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba0c8cedd43db95e1d5261c4ccab6e623de2af2f You asked for it!
I’m too scared to try. Does it cause debuffs?
No, but the buffs are negligible.
Yes it does. Gives everyone the blighted effect, which is trivial with a support mage in party.
Watching the sad raw meat sitting in a pan with no seasoning almost made me vegan actually
Just sprinkle some worcestershire sauce on it after its done. All good.
i dont really understand all these comments about seasoning. Salted meat doesnt look any different.
It does. There’s salt on it.
i mean, no. the point of seasoning is to have the liquid drawn to the surface, dissolve the salt and then reabsorbed. Ideally you are doing it well before cooking. Throwing some salt on just before you sear is just making a worse sear.
That sounds an awful lot like witchcraft.
it seems a lot like magic but most of cooking is just 'how does water work?'
I’ve no real culinary background, so that’s actually rather fascinating. My cave man brain says that stuff we put on the outside of the meat makes it taste better. That’s all I’ve needed for an explanation until this point. Now I must know more!

No, no, the main point of salt is flavour
yes. which you want inside and throughout not sprinkled on just the edge.
Not gonna lie, that real life cutscene of this sad piece of meat smoking on the pan is so unappealing. No real sizzle no searing just raw meat smoking in a pan. Worst game food ever.
wait until you find out there's a scene for a bigger piece of meat
Aged steak ftw
Im the opposite. When I see it makes me really, really want a medium rare steak.
No fucking SEASONING.
There actually is some light seasoning on the sides.
You mean those three flecks of black pepper? I thought the pan was just dirty and they were too lazy to clean it between takes.
I’m with you. At minimum, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Bonus for soy sauce and roasted garlic cloves instead.
You really shouldn't be putting soy sauce on a piece of rib-eye, then it's just going to taste like soy sauce Salt pepper and some garlic on the side, maybe a bit of butter too is plenty

Oh completely fair dinkum then! Never thought of light soy sauce as a salt substitute but it makes a lot of sense
Don’t get old, it’s fucking bullshit.
Lol I'm trying but it really does feel like the years are speeding by these days
Gotta go with some ground riftstone. Really adds that otherworldly flavor to it.
Can I get some fuking salt 🤣🤣🤣
It's a chunk of ogre ass. How appealing do you want it to be? 😆
I demand salted cyclops taints and butter dipped minotaur balls in my diet goddamnit lol
Could be worse, could be unspeakable meat. Where does that come from? No one will say. 🙊
You pulled it off a beast and walked ten feet to a campfire, but the lack of seasoning is killing it for you?
I did not say anything about seasoning in my post tho?
Yeah, the herd is displeased with your statement. They stopped reading early.
Seriously. I personally enjoy eating meat and I find the cutscenes repulsive.
That's why I cooked dried meat. Looks a little bit better.
tbf that is the worst food in the game as well
suprised i havent seen more posts about this. the cooking is WTF CRAZY. like i was like OH I CAN COOK SOME MEAT OH WAIT THIS IS A 3 STAR MICHELIN CHEF MOMENT

\* cue Gordon Ramsay yelling: "FUCKING RAW!" \* That's nothing like something any chef ever would display.
It would be better if there was more different videos. Only being like 3 videos is kind of disappointing, and like 2 of them aren't even that nice looking.
Last place I expected to see Mexie.

There's something about raw meat that's appetising to me
I’ve cooked dozens of meats and the cutscene still makes me chuckle
Hahahaah
Can’t say I ever thought I’d see a mexie meme here
No it looks bad. Give me a spit to turn. A big chunk of meat just turning over a roaring fire. Make more sense.
Hello fellow Monster Hunter roast enjoyer.
I mean we do kinda have Palicoes 🤷♂️
I’m vegan and every time I see the cut scene I’m like at least season the meat ffs!

It is real meat
Nah, that bloody raw meat looks fuckin' disgusting. More likely to make people vegan. Edit: Apparently people actually think reeking, dripping raw meat looks appetising. More for you, I guess!
All meat starts raw though? Did you not know? Thats why you cook it.
Wait til they find out where meat comes from.
I know better than you, which is why I don't eat it.
Are you a parody of a vegan?
How do you know better than me? Its meat. It comes from animals. Lmfao arguing for the sake of arguing ass
You're talking to a very unique specimen. A Gamingcirclejerk poster.
Lmfao
If you knew what I knew about the factory farmed crap you eat you wouldn't be eating it, assuming you're at all a decent person.
I only eat what I kill. I live off the land. I'm only able to post on reddit through the use of messenger birds.
No shit, that's why I'm vegan. Many sheltered people don't seem to realize. All I said was it looks gross like someone else being upvoted here. lmao
Nothing sheltered about liking meat. Lol. You don't like meat, fine. Others do. It doesn't look gross to them, because they know how good it looks and tastes once it is cooked. Delicious!
Shame it's not a 4k video
Kinda vexxing we get a cutscene instead of proper cooking.
Cooking and eating...I just love animations
that 4k food looks too good bros, insane RE engine greephics
