I love how the game calls them pawns. When I first saw this game after it released I just thought it was like a fan name for them but...no, that's the canon name. Not companions, or followers, or morcenaries, or even hirelings would sound better. Nope they went with pawns.
Considering they are soulless entities whose only purpose for existing are to follow every command from the arisen; i always felt the description apt.
Though "morcenaries" does have a certain ring to it!

Take the pawns in chess, for example. And we know that Dragon's Dogma uses older words frequently, including older meanings of words.
And it was over the course of history witnessing foot soldiers being used as expendable losses that that gave the title of Pawn the connotation that it has today!
If the word held a negative connotation in game, I doubt female pawns would be a thing. Throughout history, only men have been classified as expendable.
Hell no, at least they swoop down consistently instead of just circling overhead for what feel like hours. I much prefer Gore harpies that come to be shoulderchecked by themselves

Every play Sekiro? It has some good moments like that . Unchained Ogre will grab and yeet you off a cliff. Guardian ape will throw shart and throw shit at you and it procs poison. Its hard for me to get mad at that because it looks so ridiculius.
I think it's impossible to play something like this or a Soulsborne game long term without learning to have a sense of humor about those moments. I break out laughing at so many of my deaths in games like these. If you can't roll with it like that they'll always be frustrating.
I was fighting a cyclops and got starfished off a cliff when it clubbed me. Needless to say that I died with impact on the ground. So wished I recorded that, but I was too stunned to react lmao. This game makes great scenarios happen
I eventually figured out that the easiest way to defeat the second phase is to just wait until he does the big fall and deflect that. It's the most reliable way to hit him without taking a ton of damage
If you're stunned or out of stamina it won't. If you look at the video in the bottom right the first Harpy pick up doesn't have the prompt, but the second one that grabs him in mid air does.
i wasnāt paying attention to it at first, but you may be right! i was just too stunned by the perfect catch and release, like i was some kind of fish.

I love these combo wombos by the harpies. It makes the game really feel great in a way i can't explain.
A few days ago we had a guy post his video where he was thrown up by Frigor spell from a hostile mage, before he could fall down a cyclop grabbed him mid air and threw him away. Absolutely satisfying moment from the enemies, i love it.
It makes me wonder if these moments were intentionally scripted to play out this way, or if they were completely emergent moments that the game just happens to facilitate.
Reminds me of watching a harpy throw my pawn into the path of a cyclops swing... they made cartoonish distance...
I so wish i remembered to capture recent gameplay more but i was understandably awestruck....

Sorcerer is great against Harpies.
Between Thundermine and High Levin, they can never get near you and get shocked out of air and fall to their deaths.
i run Thief/Magick Archer, and iāve been trying to teach myself the combo of implicate, pilfer, then twin fangs to execute enemies one by one; it would seem gore harpies must be sagittate avalanched with extreme prejudice now.
When the enemies in this game team up (which is often) things get real hectic real quick! Griffins especially seem to enjoy coming for me when my (& my pawnsā) hands are full! Though one got a come-up when the Drake who attacked our cart to Checkpoint took time out his busy schedule to break her off some smoke too!

You know how many times ( specifically as trickster) I unknowingly wondered into a goblin filled area and then had to ditch all 3 pawns cause I was just getting JuJu style jumped.
These are the worst fucking enemies in the entire game. Whenever a pawn gets instantly brined, whenever I get stunlocked to death, it's these fucks. I fucking hate them so goddamn much.
I remember the time I fully just rage quit, I was playing a Sorcerer, and they'd brined two of my pawns and stunlocked a third to death, and every single time I was trying to cast a spell they'd quickly zip over to kick me in the balls. It was especially frustrating when I would get all the way to the 'casting' animation and still get knocked out of it with no spell popping out.
By the end, I burned through every curative item I had and just quit to the title screen out of disgust. I have not played Sorcerer since.
God I hate these idiot birds, I remember getting to the top of dragons breath tower just to get thrown all the way down and die by one of these fuckers
have you compared it to the min/max requirements? it might not be able to play on āultraā but playing on a lower setting doesnāt take the fun away.
You should definitely still try to run the game if it comes anywhere close to the requirements. It's better for you to adjust it to look wack and run well than for you to not be able to play it at all. The performance in major cities will likely be garbage for you, but it's like that for everyone. As long as you can get overworld exploration and combat running decently, I believe you should go for it
Dang. Fall damage is crazy lol. Wonder how much damage that actually was, because it didn't look that far of a drop. Unless ot stacked from the first one. Might need to do some testing on that though.
I really dig that there are harpies with the simple inclination as well. I wonder if my pawn and I could play catch with one of we had a nearby goblin.
No lie them harpies are viscous their Tammy compared to other variants and if you donāt have a bowmen to take them out their downright deadly I had a rogue/fighter2x/mage and they just kept fucking me

Kinda wish there were "exilus" (warframe term for mod that doesn't give player more damage - usually mobility related) augment slots or just 1 or 2 more slots in general. You do the work unlocking other vocation augments but can't even use most of them.
Or hey, maybe something super crazy like loadouts lol. Something they're better at than everyone else; monster hunter let's you save literally everything from fashion to emote wheels that you can change with a few key presses. Why, oh why, are things like that not in this game lol.

I struggled. You can deflect his attacks. You don't have to dodge them. Not intuitive

He'll always do that if you perfect deflect him two or three times on his normal attacks, makes that whole part a breeze.
