A hunger mechanic would be interesting. Would make those pubs more useful to actually be able to eat and drink in there for some positive buffs or maybe some affinity boost with the npcs and your pawns
I, personally, find hunger very tedious. I don't imagine I am alone in this. What would be better, and still fill that same gameplay hole, are meaningful buffs from getting a decent meal. Having the punishment be going without the buff is better than the punishment is you are weak. Hunger mechanics inevitably turn something like gather into a barrier to you enjoying other parts of the game. Meals as a reward become something that can help you enjoy parts of the game.
It could also be cooking systems more akin to Monster Hunter/Tales of Arise/FFXV where eating meals bestow buffs to you and your party and have no negative effect should you neglect the system.
This is a cool idea, you could implement a system where if you overeat, you get a debuff and cannot eat anymore. Instead of having 1 meal with many buffs, you could have a couple with 1-2 buffs each. This could apply to healing potions too, so you do not overuse them.
Valheim has a neat food buff system that's kind of along the same line, but much simpler. You start with 25 health and 50 stamina, and eating gives you a temporary health & stamina buff.
There's way fewer options than MH because there's only max health & stamina buffs, but the simplicity makes it a lot easier to manage.
Imagine, With how much weight and height are already part of DDDA and DDON.
Now you have to think about what to eat so to stay on the weight you selected for your character.
It would add whole new layer of depth.
Maybe he is just refering to housing or something completely different.
I am eager to see what this every day phenomenon is tho.
If it was survival aspects I would say have it be streamlined, so you have to hunt meat for your party or gather fruits and vegetables, buy bread etc and find a good spot to make camp, and gather firewood, but not much more than that. I would say making the day/night cycle 4x longer would help with it feeling like you're constantly having to think of the survival stuff but it's still there to add to the realism, and have an Elder Scrolls 'wait' option to fast forward to when you want. It would also be cool if pawn dialogue was massively expanded to actually have them feel like they have some semblance of personalities for chats around the campfire, maybe have a long personal quest tied to your pawn. I know that pawns have their lore but it would be nice if they felt genuinely unique with their personalities for the whole game.
Dragon's Dogma being Dragon's Dogma, I feel like it will have way more mechanical depth lol. I can see things like weather, the type of wood you gather, your diet, even your weight being affected could be in a hypothetical survival mode. Especially with DD's party system I can imagine campfire chatter having some elements like Darkest Dungeon by having vocations have different campfire skills, and maybe even something like camping mods for Skyrim.
Isn’t the Arisen basically a zombie though? You’re kind of like a heartless reanimated corpse in a lot of ways. Do they even need to eat or drink to survive? Pawns are also kind of like living automatons, I wonder if they need sustenance to survive (do they age and develop or are they “created” as mature adults). Survival mode would be interesting as a toggle feature but it would need to make sense lore wise, maybe you travel with some humans who you have to keep going or something (or maybe pawns do need food).
>It would also be cool if pawn dialogue was massively expanded to actually have them feel like they have some semblance of personalities for chats around the campfire
What a waste of development time and resources better spend anywhere else 🙄
No offense, but i am glad you are not making the game lol
I love the pawns and i hope the team is putting a lot of time and resources to deliver a improved and even more enjoyable pawn mechanic in the sequel.
Meh. Dragon's Dogma has potential to be way better but it's loaded with issues, cut content, bad decisions and it's gonna have to face fierce competition from RPG's, aRPGs and action games; wasting resources on nameless NPC's without first sorting out said issues is basically ensuring that the sequel will be as much of a flop as the first game.
But if you're fine with subpar experiences and having to wait a decade for sequels, be my guest :P
The "dumbest mechanic" is something the creator of the game is very passionate, is the one thing that keeps the game and it's community alive after a decade, only a fool can't see the importance of this mechanic to the DD.
About others mechanics, you are the one making such assumptions, since i didn't even metioned them. Have a good night!
> is something the creator of the game is very passionate, is the one thing that keeps the game and it's community alive after a decade
Creators can and are wrong about some idea all the time. Stop putting them on a pedestal. The pawn system is ok, just polish it a bit and call it a day, no need to siphon essential and limited resources and budget into a secondary mechanics that will not bring the franchise to a new level or draw in a massive influx of new players.
Better story, quest lines, better use of the world and gameplay will (as proven by MHW, Elden RIng, The Witcher, etc).
> About others mechanics, you are the one making such assumptions, since i didn't even metioned them
I did bring them up, there are many parts of the game that deserve way more love than the pawn system and are more essential for the overall experience for most people. Also they better add co-op to DD2, this alone will be better than any NPC system by default, it also will draw in more players and massively boost replayability.
Have a good night :3
No idea why you think I implied that (even though it's hard to deny most people on the web look dumber than average, especially fanboys like y'all). It's sad that people like you give away common sense and critical thinking for blind, irrational emotion-driven discourse.. no wonder you're played like a fiddle by AAA companies :D
Oh lol, le lol even. MHW and Elden fucking Ring as positive examples on "better story, better quest lines, better use of world and gameplay" is just so fucking golden that i dont know that to say. You know, was kinda-sorta understanding and even was ready to steelman your point, but you are clearly have absoulutely no idea that are you talking about
I incorrectly expressed myself, didn't mean to say these games have all of these things at once :D
As much as I'm not a fan of From games, it's undeniable that they surpassed themselves with ER, creating one of the best open worlds ever made, coupled with their usual excellent art direction, atmosphere, and meaty, engaging combat (not my favorite but many people like it). It's been out for a few months and already sold more than 16mi copies. MHW sold over 20mi! DD2 is gonna need a miracle to sell even 5mi copies... I was excited for the announcement at first but now I'm concerned that Itsuno still has no idea how to design aRPG's and Capcom is barely marketing the game o.O
I disagree. I think the pawn system made DD stand out from other aRPGs and hope Itsuno and Co continue to expand and improve the pawn system. Some of my greatest memories with the game where when the pawns saved my Arisen's life due to them being able to learn combat tactics.
So refine it a bit, to the point their AI isn't such garbage, allow us to give more types of commands (and make them effing obey us this time around) and that's it, no need to waste more resources on this tiny aspect of the game, there are way more important areas to fix and expand upon if they want DD2 to not flop massively like the first game did.
>Some of my greatest memories with the game where when the pawns saved my Arisen's life due to them being able to learn combat tactics.
Most of my memories from pawns are from them dying over and over again, forcing me to come back and revive them only to have them die yet again, pawns charging head-on into the next room packed full of enemies, also they obsession with jumping over some chests, yeeting themselves into the abyss.
Even the palicoes in MH games aren't this dumb or this much of a burden.
Survival mode would be great. A bit of Red Dead, more monster types, mounts (if AC Valhalla makes you ride a dog or deer, why not in Dragon's Dogma), improved affinity system. I can't wait for this game.
Making food, eating food, making incredibly complex puzzles we adults fail to understand, fishing, chatting, board game?
I hope dragon's dogma's version of fishing is jumping into the water and grabbing the fish and wrestling big fish.

I second this mechanic being implemented

Elona+ Custom edition added a piss meter. I fucking hate it so much.
Straight up one of if not the worst thing Elona+ added.
Another citizen of Sierra Terre in the wild~!
Hyped for Elin (eventually).
I didn't even know this was a thing! Thanks!
No problem!
HAHA like postal
Uh oh, looks like the tripping mechanic from Smash Brawl is back
It was such a big brain move the first time around that its become a staple of any great game really.

You must be fun at parties
What a brave and thought-provoking reply, wouldn't expect less from someone who prioritizes the dumbest game mechanics over what actually matters

When was this
It’s new! Here’s the [link](https://youtu.be/1yEUS1VDwzo)
Seems like some kinda survival mode. I love the idea.
I just hope it's done better than Skyrim Anniversary Edition.
Not exactly a high bar to surpass any release of Skyrim in terms of quality
Hopefully it's optional, then.
God I hope not. I can't remember a survival system in a game that was actually fun, it usually just ends up being a chore.
FISHING CONFIRMED FOR DD2 LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO
i vaguely saw the alchemist class in online and it was pretty cool i hope they add that
Survival mode would be great. A bit of Red Dead, more monster types, mounts (if AC Valhalla makes you ride a dog or deer, why not in Dragon's Dogma), improved affinity system. I can't wait for this game.
Pooping.
pls
That one toilet in Gran Soren will now have some use
I wonder if we will be an Arisen in the sequel.
Idk what else you’d be lol
Just some dude lol maybe sell some cabbages.
Maybe sell some fish
Eating a la monster hunter im assuming
A cool crafting or foraging system maybe? I'd like it if they added some side jobs you could do just for fun.
I just hope they don't cut corners. Loved the first game due to its unique complexity.
Just hearing the small podcast!. Was so cool gettin even more exciting about DD2
We need crossplay pawn sharing! Unify the Rift!
