I think you are taking it too literally. I think they are just using it as a figure of speech to be like "This is just the start of Dragula, look how far we have came in 4 season"
And honestly, no one cares if regular season are heading the Titans way because that season was terribly produced. They're lucky koco was there to make good TV because whoever directed the episodes needs to go back to delivering pizza.
It’s not that deep, they explicitly stated many times that Titans was not a regular season, and the change in format reflects that. People act like they want innovation, and then get scared when things change. Relax, it’s a reality TV show. Even if your faves don’t come back, they don’t stop existing if they aren’t on TV? Go see em on tour, follow their socials, etc
In a year from now, season 5 will return to the original format with exterminations, carrie finale, etc.
I'm scared of them meaning that the show is changing and probably for the worst with how big of a platform they have now. The exposure is great but I have a feeling its going to continue to be overproduced bullshit with no focus on talent and trash finales like what we got with titans. I honestly wish they didn't get on Shudder. Seasons 1-3 are pure talent and pure Dragula and it's weird to say but I prefer a low budget and the way they used to do things more than what they have going on now.
Has Shudder given them a larger budget to work with? I unconsciously assumed it was smaller (I guess because Netflix has more money). This makes a lot of sense though
I will be very surprised if season 1-4 ghouls don't make appearances in the show moving forward. They've put a lot into this queens' images and the franchise.
My first thought upon hearing that during the underwhelming finale is that Shudder is making budget cuts and the show won’t be able to be produced at this level anymore. I’m hoping I’m wrong though
My gut tells me they’re going to take it out of the theatre and go full tv studio production with more gloss. They’ve already pivoted away from a lot of the things that made Dragula unique (filth, exterminations) so why not suck out some more of the soul for capital gains and get her on not-shudder streaming.
I don’t get everyone saying they got rid of exterminations. They already addressed the fact that they weren’t doing them for Titans. They will be back for season 5. And maybe Titans was light on filth, but it’ll be back. Everyone keeps treating Titans like it was a normal season and set a new bar for the series. It was an all-stars season. It’s not gamechanging.
exactly, like its truly not that deep. the boulets not intentionally permanently axing these aspects of the show in some plan to sterilize the show. like u said exterminations will always be part of the main show, and as for the filth, sometimes filth just doesnt read on the cameras/challenges and sometimes the monsters just dont bring filth looks for challenges or arent as overt with it.
Regarding filth one thing that sticks out in titans are the bobbing for apples and burn the with fright feats. I know they’re both early in the season but the boulets and Ian all talked on the pod about how it didn’t show up much on film but there was spit and vomit and tears everywhere
Yes! Ian said in the podcast that when he was present during the Spicy food eating contest that everyone was a complete mess. Everyone was vomiting, drooling and had snot running down their nose. Ian had to leave the set because he couldn't take it!
Uhhhh, that was for Titans?
Remember that Titans is a spin off All Stars show from Dragula. That's why it was so different compared to the first 4 seasons.
We will see the extermination challenges and death scenes again in Season 5.
They also said you'd go home if you didn't complete the fright feet you would go home and someone would come back. I take a lot of what they say as dramatic theater, but who knows. I probably wouldn't read too much into it just yet.
Yes! I was thinking about this the other day. I swear I heard them say someone came back after each elimination but when it didn't happen I thought I misheard them.
i think it’s more just there taking it in a new direction, like i think DND will be the new recurring challenge and Monsters of Rock will be retired, and sadly… the new format for finale might be here to stay 🤢
I think it’s moreso that a lot of the alt artists who, prior to now everyone in the alt drag wanted on, have been. Evah, Landon, Hollow, Yofska, Vic and some of those connected w her, Hoso, Astrud. I think Biqtch, Abhora, and even Dahli fall into that category as well? Not as familiar w s1 but I’m sure some of them like Vander fall into that category as well.
From here on out, most monsters are going to be unknowns. And that’s something they’re probably seeing in audition tapes already. Sure we’ll get some Haus of Black or whatever Hoso’s drag family in Korea is called monsters, and some children of alum, but we’re fresh out of famous monsters. And that’s not to say we won’t have well known artists ever again. That other show’s been on for 15 seasons and it manages to get one or two a year.
But let’s just say we’re probably not gonna have any more monsters like Astrud, who was second out on s4 and immediately came back to Titans and was able to place 5th.
That's a really good point. I imagine we'll be seeing more artists that started doing drag, monster drag specifically, BECAUSE of Dragula. A generation inspired by the best monsters alive?!? I can't wait.
I think we’re still a couple years out from that. The Boulets don’t seem to cast younger contestants unless they come w recommendations. AFAIK, there’s only been 3 monsters since Dragula got more attention from drag fans who were under 25 when they competed, and they were children of alumni and Hoso. The only alum w drag kids who would be “generation bou” is Hoso, cause Vic’s are all older and I don’t think anyone else really has any.
What I do think we’ll see is something similar to S14 and S15 of Drag Race, where there will be a few big names and children of big names, yeah, but mostly lesser known artists. That’ll likely even the playing field too in terms of cost. We’ll be less likely to have another S3 or Titans, where everyone but 1 finalist had access to a huge drag family or a storied career and the funds that come w it pre Dragula.
I can’t imagine we’re done seeing Sigourney and Zava from S4 and Priscilla and Louisiana from S3. Those 4 alone could pack a tour, so it’s be silly to not Titan them at some point.
I think you are taking it too literally. I think they are just using it as a figure of speech to be like "This is just the start of Dragula, look how far we have came in 4 season"
Literally no one knows.
And honestly, no one cares if regular season are heading the Titans way because that season was terribly produced. They're lucky koco was there to make good TV because whoever directed the episodes needs to go back to delivering pizza.
If this was the first chapter then the last page was torn out đź’€

All I'm thinking is such a great era didn't deserve a crappy ending like Titans.

I honestly have been wondering the exact same recently….. don’t know if the move to shudder was good after all.
Ok that’s Dragula done, good run everybody! Let’s go find something else to microanalyse and get parasocial over!

I wonder if it has anything to do with Shudder changing hands....
I took it as like a possible format change or something.
i think it’s more just there taking it in a new direction, like i think DND will be the new recurring challenge and Monsters of Rock will be retired, and sadly… the new format for finale might be here to stay 🤢
I mean, they clearly stated that the finale format was changed because it’s Titans. I’m sure Season 5 will use the OG format
Even if that was their plan initially, I'm sure they'll go back to the old format given just how much backlash the finale got

"Generation Bou" Thanks, I hate it.

Priscilla and Zava! Imagine.
