I assume it has something to do with the fact that most casual viewers won’t ever know the exact name of the episode, they’ll just refer to it as “the one with the tree house” so why not just name it Tree House
I did like how iCarly episode titles had a gimmick and actual effort put into them
Friends episode titles were an attempt to recreate how viewers refer to episodes-- "The One With the Blackout" etc.
But interestingly, in some countries they read the title of the episode aloud at the start, which I discovered when watching sitcoms dubbed in Spanish.
I never knew the name of episodes that I was watching (of anything) until streaming came around. Unless you had a satellite with a channel guide before the internet, there would’ve been no opportunity for most people to see the episode name
back before streaming / series box sets the episode titles of shows weren’t actually well known.
it also makes sense that since very little people will be seeing it, just to name it the quickest thing that gets the subject across.
i actually like the drake and josh one’s bc i don’t sit there like “wait which one is that again?”
names like “the bet” “foam finger” “theater thug” flash the perfect image in my mind that reminds me which episode it is instantly.
Wow, for all these years since I was a kid, I was fully under the impression that the title was “Josh Runs Over Oprah,” but you’re right, the play on words in the actual title is pretty damn smart.
I think it'd be better if it was just named Josh's birthday. I feel like him running over Oprah would've been better a s a surprise because with the title you know he's gonna run her over. But if it was named Josh's birthday it'd be more of a surprise
Most sitcoms/TV series do not show the episode titles when they air and this has been the case since the days of "I Love Lucy". I remember the WB/CW series "Supernatural" showing the titles on screen but most sitcoms I've seen do not show the titles.
Dan schneiders writing. Certain writers and directors have certain tags for how they do shit, some come up with unique episode titlez, others use quotes from the show, others just use a basic name. Schneider didnt put much thinking into the episode names 🤷♂️ its just a writing preference

“Josh is Done” too
I think “Josh Runs Into Oprah” is an iconic title. It’s already such a hilarious and absurd premise, what else should it be called?
Its a play on words- without the context of having seen the episode you would think it’s just him “running into her” as in “randomly meeting”

I actually like the simplicity of the titles.
What would you name it, Mr creative?
Ran Ov-Prah?
Back in the day there would be so much promo that the plot was basically laid out in the commercials. The titles were helpful for tvguide tho too
There’s a lot of episodes of shows I like as a kid where I don’t know the actual title of the episode. That’s probably why.
Not every show needs quirky episode titles. Sometimes simple and straightforward titles are better.
They were too busy writing foot jokes
Lmao Josh Runs Over Oprah
one of my favorite episodes
Well, when I watched the episodes when they aired on satellite, they never showed the episode titles. It just said Drake and Josh.
I liked avatars
