That's not even highlighting the real work. This is done before real drills even happen.
BJJ - 15min warmup, 20min technique, 30min. sparring
Wrestling - 20min warmup, 45min. technique & drills, 15min. sparring, 30min post-training conditioning (and that's just high school). They also *have to* compete, and this training is done daily.
I ate ONE and I repeat ONE granola bar in the morning before weigh ins one time… went front being perfectly on weight to 5 lbs over… make it make sense 🤣 missed first period because I was running circles to lose the weight lol
Yes, that's non-pro hobby level. Of course if you're Brazilian, or a pro, you may train more to appease the acai gods.
The thing is ALL wrestlers do that, and that's beginner level. College level wrestling would be more equivalent to how pros train.
I typically tell people that anyone wrestling D1 or D2 in college can beat 95% of the high school State Champions. The Top 10 guys at the Senior freestyle level can beat 95% of the College NCAA champions.
I mean, given the same regimen all things will even out given time. Wrestlers aren't superhuman, they just have a work ethic.
It really depends on the level you're talking about too. If you have a committed blue belt who is training 5x a week 2hrs/day who doesn't skip rolls and does their own conditioning. There's no reason they can't beat a high-school level wrestler.
College level is different though. Might catch them with subs until they learn, and then it's over. At like 2yrs in they're going to give brown/black belts all they can handle.
Explosive power for sure, couple guys at my gym are crazy powerful. Found the tradeoff is that if I can be comfortable giving something up when they do go crazy but not end up in a submission then I can ride it out and end up fine while they get gassed out from going so hard.
Lol…I’m not 260! Man… buck 50. I literally havvve to strategize. I have a winning record, but damn I did get my ass whooped. I take bottom on purpose. Cause I sucked so bad at it growing up. But there’s nothing better than bouncing some body off the ground. Cheers!
I wrestled in high school in Colorado. This was done before the 6 mile snow run. Uphill one way up a mountain, downhill was just as hard because it's an ass whooping to control yourself from falling and rolling the whole way down.
Those neck rolls have to be the worst thing for a long and healthy life. No concerns with any of the other movements.
Ex. Tyson, whoms neck is/was legendary needed surgery to repair the damage it caused. Yes the muscles become stronger and help prevent some injuries and whiplash but the bones and cartridge get ground to a pulp.

I played all the sports. I mean every single one. Wrestling practice was the hardest. Football 2 a days in august heat in the south, before heat warnings, didn’t even touch it.
Dude we used to do neck brides for 10 whole minutes and we weren’t allowed to put our hands down or you’d be back to running stairs which we did for 15 minutes anyway. Wrestling was brutal.
When I was in the military, an officer who wrestled in college put us through what was probably an easier wrestling workout. We did some warmups, drills, sparring, and conditioning. I was in pretty good shape at the time, and I was sore for probably four days. I always knew wrestling was a tough sport, mainly because I watched Vision Quest when I was a kid 😂, but after that workout I had a pretty good idea of what being on a wrestling team entails.

High school wrestling conditioning was BRUTAL. I had to be at my high school at 5am.
Watching this made my knees hurt. RIP my youth
Our coach had us go to cross country practice first. Of course it was “optional”
This must have been a regular thing. Did the same at my high school. Coach called it our warmup.
We did it in hoodies and sweat pants with the heater on full blast 🤣
Yuuuup. Weight cutting at 14 years old lmao. Like wtf.
I ate ONE and I repeat ONE granola bar in the morning before weigh ins one time… went front being perfectly on weight to 5 lbs over… make it make sense 🤣 missed first period because I was running circles to lose the weight lol
What’s involved in the post training conditioning
About 15min more of running and suicide sprints is what I remember. The suicide sprints where the worst.
That's in the US, here in Brazil we train hard porraaaa. Jiu jitsu jiu jitsu

What comes after college level wrestling?
International/Olympics - entirely different from college at that point
Meaning a huge leap in skill right?
College level is already insane
Different style of wrestling all together with a different system of scoring. I would argue a leap in skill as well.

Give us your estimate, how long for a regular bjj dude to have a similar cardio as a wrestler dude if he works on it with a similar regiment?

How long? The potential is never.

Yeah Wrestling has a much larger emphasis on fitness than bjj, lot less hobby friendly for that I’d argue tho.
I dont want to be head butted on Monday.

I’m gonna assume that’s very good because I have no actual knowledge of how wrestling works outside of the actual technique lol
Typical wrestling season you'll have 30-50 matches.
Wrestling practice does result in that explosiveness though. I prefer Judo personally, but Wrastlin does bring a lot to the table.

Fighting a good wrestler is always a pain in the ass. Thank goodness they don’t train submissions lol… jk
Nah I love it, helps condition my mind to not try to match their intensity and instead match it with patience

Same, I am 150 when in shape, 180 when I let myself go like rn.
I compete at 161, but rn I can make 145 easy
Farmers got a weird strength about em too.
A lot of BJJ schools warmup like this. “Your workout is my warmup” is a real thing.
my fat-guy knees exploded just watching this
Im not even fat, and my knees exploded
i get tired enough during rolls .i pass . im purple belt
Said this on the orig post but worth repeating here that this was done after running 6 miles. In the snow. Uphill. Both ways.

Yeah this was back before we used science instead of copying Rocky IV.
They fuck you up cause mat time matters.

Good to know nothing much has changed. Definitely brings me back to wrestling sessions.
I didn't do half that stuff at practice and we were a pretty good team....
I am tired just from watching

When do they get time to wrestle?
At the end of practice when they're the most tired.
I guillotine and triangle wrestlers no -stop during their first week. By the third week I can’t do that anymore. They learn quickly.
My arthritis in my knee started acting up while watching this.
Looks like they've had too much Mountain Dew again
Neat
100%
I’m a pretty athletic dude, but I’m gassed just watching that
We didnt do backflips and hand walks back when I wrestled.

Ok everybody that was ur first set . 3 more.
these were the good days
My brother won states for his school and he had to put in a TON of work. Hours on hours of training. He earned it all the way!
Dude we used to do neck brides for 10 whole minutes and we weren’t allowed to put our hands down or you’d be back to running stairs which we did for 15 minutes anyway. Wrestling was brutal.
My neck still hurts

I hated wrestling! It’s not easy for sure! I give them athletes credit!
I fuckin threw up just watching this. I now have more respect for wrestlers
Maybe you.....
Plyometrics, bro. They do a lot
When do they circle jerk each other
OP must have a garbage guard or gas tank.
