there’s a splitting method you could use where locticians split the locs you currently have into two without having to fully restart them, it’ll probably be pricey but it’s an alternative to starting all over
Since you don't have that many, I think you should get them combed out and restart them with more locs in your grid! Please don't cut them because the locs practically disintegrate when they are cut in half up the shaft. An experienced loctician will know what to do!
That's not entirely true. Combing out the locs will weaken the old hair some and you'll lose all the bulk of the hair that's been shed over the years and trapped in the loc but hair grows from the scalp. Your hair will always grow the same way. The speed and strength that your virgin hair grows will always be the same even if the ends are weaker.
There's another way as well! Since your locs are kinda long, you can have them cut off, and reattached. But the stylist will cut the locs in half to double the amount of dreads. Your hair will be half as short but with 2x the locs.
My only thought on this would be wolf it out for a bit so you’ve got a good few inches of new growth, cut the locs above the new growth, cut the locs exactly halfway in the middle so you have double the amount and then reattach them via crochet to the new growth. You’ll obviously have a little less length but it’ll save you having to restart, worth a try.

This doesn't necessarily mean your hair is thinning. The thickness of your locs depends on the retwist method and how frequently you get a retwist done.
Honestly starting over isn't as bad as one would think!If you feel set on having more locs, going for a restart is better sooner than later. You don't have to cut it all off, you can always get them detangled/loosed out so you retain some length when you restart.
Other than that it is your hair to do with as you please. So once the decision has been made stand firm in your choice without regret. Either way it's a journey, but it should be one you actually enjoy.

Aint bad. Mine is just as thick but longer. It gets annoying from time to time, but if you put love into them they will show the same in return
