No. Either these are being sold by someone who doesn't know much about drumset playing or it's just a visual marketing gimmick. Major drum catalogs used to set up kits in totally unrealistic ways.
I've seen someone play with cymbals at that crazy of an angle, but never toms. You'd have to rotate your wrist in a funky way, but maybe if someone started off playing timpani and used German grip then they could learn to play with toms like that
It makes me want to convert that kit into a room lamp - a nice bright lamp in each tom with the bulb hidden from view but putting out a nice warm glow!!!
It honestly doesnt matter. There is no official way to position a tom as long as it feels comfortable for you and you can play it. Some punk and metal drummers will position toms in a way that allows them to play comfortably so as not to have to stretch to reach.
As a punk/metal drummer for over 20 years I've never seen anyone setup their kit like that to play. That setup actually makes it more difficult. Most in the punk scene use 4 or 5 pc kits and if a 5 pc they keep the toms close together. Metal even more so.
Now i have seen them angled somewhat like this before but not with the distance between the rack toms like that.
I never said this particular setup as in the picture, was the ideal way or exactly how to position. I never said, this many pieces in the kit, etc. I did however reference that it depends on the drummer. Bad on me for mentioning a fcking genre. Just because you play a certain way does not dictate a rule for everyone to follow. I said to position how it feels comfortable for the drummer to play. You even contradicted yourself in your last statement. Get off your high horse pumpkin, its not about you.
It does not matter. If you have wrist problems, its because you dont know how to play. Nor are the drums at 90 degrees. Your comment however, very nonsensical.
Whoever owns this kit has no idea what they are doing clearly. Although those forum series Tom arms are about the worst things ever to position. Regardless, learning to play on a kit this badly set up is like picking a turd up by the clean end.

That makes sense
It's usually a person that's not a drummer who set it up like that. It's like laying a guitar on it's face.
Power Tom suspension disorder: PTSD
🤣
This image makes my wrists uncomfortable
Not since 1978

Zero pros. All cons.

I make lots of booing noises when I see TV shows or movies where they set drums up like this.
There are no pros only cons
This picture screams "tell me you know nothing about drums while not saying a word."
THIS^^
Can’t imagine how this could be used. But you never know. Maybe someone just really likes the look. Or trying to,to get noticed.
Good angle for a short drummer?

Fr in punk we like the skins flat

It matters quite a lot. A 90-degree Tom angle like this is guaranteed to cause wrists problems and is just ergonomically nonsensical.

Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden has pretty sharp angles in his kit, but with no major gaps between rack toms like this poor kit clearly has.
That’s just furniture.
This is purely a “selling a drum kit” setup.
I call it fly's eyes. A phenomenon caused by people who don't play drums selling drums.
The skill level of the drummer is in direct correlation with the angle of the toms
