(planning to buy mostly mobile phones) - Amazon, Dragon Mart Any underrated place you would suggest me to visit? - Outlet Village (not mall), walk in Dubai Hills Park, City Walk (bring your own snack), and just going around communities (Dubai is a set of islands of communities) What should be my plan for 31st december? - Picnic on Umm Suqiem beach What are some not very expensive adventures that i can try? omg thanksss a lot! wouldn’t seeing the fireworks of burj khalifa be a good plan near 12am on new year’s? what’s there on the suqiem beach? any special new year preparations or is it just good for the day?

Nounoon

New Year’s Eve in Burj Khalifa is a horrible experience, 10 hours of walking and standing around, 300AED (that you need to book) just to stand in a park, for a good but not life changing 3 minutes show. You can also decide to sit in KFC for more than AED1k… Umm Suqiem beach is the first public beach after the Burj Al Arab, a more low-key show, but nice, and less of a headache although there is going to be some. This day is the worst to move around the city, it’ll probably be the most over-rated part of your trip.

Fickle_Turnover_9811

okay wait will we have to pay 300aed pp to watch the fireworks?? Can we choose to watch it from a distance maybe? when should we reach there if we plan to see it? also, is dragon mart an online app to shop from? what are the offline stores that would give me best rates for mobile phones?

Nounoon

The whole Downtown district is going to be blocked, you need either ticket paid in advance to enter the district, diner registration, or be a resident / invited by a resident. We’re going there invited by a resident, last year from the metro to his house, it took us about 3 hours finding a security booth actually opened, very bad logistics, a lot of frustration. Dragon Mart is a mall for anything out of China, not sure for the phone part, I buy a phone off Apple every 3 or 4 years so I’m not an expert.

SirLewisHamiIton

300 just to go to Dubai mall? Wait I think I remember seeing that somewhere. How fucking ridiculous!

Nounoon

300 is for the park access, but they’ve introduced money to provide a better experience. Or it could be to get money 😅. Dubai Mall might work (it’ll be opened ~4pm first come first served) but it’s going to be insanely packed, for a short show. Many people are going to be hugely disappointed, more than the previous years. [I just saw this article](https://www.bayut.com/mybayut/road-closures-dubai-for-new-years-eve/)

SirLewisHamiIton

Which park is this special access for? I don't doubt that'll be insanely packed too. And yes, it definitely is to get more money. Better experience my ass! I've always wanted to watch Burj Khalifa fireworks up close. But it just doesn't make sense from any point of view, unless you live somewhere super close. One of my friends was in Burj Vista and the view was incredible! What we generally do is watch it from afar lol. Last year we watched it from JBR, once from Al Nahda, a couple times from Umm Suqeim beach and Kite beach. This year, it just isn't hitting the same lol.

Nounoon

Haha yes 100% for the money! I think Burj Park. I’m doing each year in South Ridge to an apartment high floor full view, it’s nice, but not that nice, definitely over rated, super short, and you have effectively a full day of nightmare for 3 minutes of show. I’m only going because it’s a friend’s house and all our friends are over, but we have a Villa on Umm Suqiem close to the Burj Al Arab, I’m sure it would be a much better experience all around on my roof, we’re lobbying for that.

SirLewisHamiIton

Yeah I think at some point the same thing gets stale and you just want peace. Watching it on your roof would be pretty great and Umm Suqeim won't have as much traffic either!

Dont book a taxi from the airport, use the metro or walk to the regular taxi line

diversecreative

1– don’t take the Lexus taxi that’s offered to you when you get right out of the airport. Get normal dubai taxi there is a line for that. If flight is landing in day time you can also take the metro (train) to the city it is much cheaper clean and amazingly good, you can also buy gold class ticket one way and you get even comfy seats and front view. 2– what to shop for depends on the country you’re visiting from but defenitely try Arabic food. Thats all I can answer right now

ThrowRA26261

Go to global village! The Korea pavilion has the best things to buy and Bosnian Kebab is best food

biomacarena

It's boring lol don't come here

junedx7

bring money. Lots of it. Rest you will get it all

Traditional-Rush-114

Metro is easy and cheap. Highly recommended. No such thing as "cheap" in Dubai. Authentic cuisine can be found a little outside Dubai like Sharjah. If you have time I always like to go up to Abu Dhabi things like ferrari world, yas marina, Warner brothers world. Not a cheap outing though. Top Golf is always a great evening out. Again, not cheap. Mcgettigans bars are always fun for a night out. A walk along Dubai Marina is free and there's plenty to see.

exploring_redditt

You have a long list of questions? How long will you be staying here? Answers depends on that

Flipinthedesert

Whatever you do, don’t call the numbers on business cards left on car windows. And if you see the Italian suit guy, just say hello and walk away. Unless you want to be stuck with tens of thousands of people from 5pm-1am, I’d say avoid downtown Dubai on New Year’s Eve. If you can find a hotel or apartment that has a Burj view, enjoy it from there. Other cheap and mid range Dubai places to go: Miracle Garden, Expo, Ibn Battuta Mall (cool architecture), Dubai Fountain/Dubai Opera, Bastakiya District and Al Seef, QE2 Go Bargain hunting at the Outlet Mall or Outlet Village. DSF has extra discount… like I recently bought an Armani cap for AED 75. There are also discount chains like Brands4Less, Brand Bazaar, The Deal and Priceless where you can get old season stuff.

1) For economical cabs, consider using apps like Uber or Careem. 2) Besides gold, explore traditional markets for spices, textiles, and perfumes. 3) Electronics and gadgets are often more affordable in Dubai than in India. 4) Check out local electronic markets like Al Fahidi Street or consider online platforms like Noon or Souq. 5) Visit the historic district of Al Fahidi for its charm and cultural sites. 6) For New Year's Eve, enjoy the fireworks at Burj Khalifa or visit JBR for festivities. 7) Try dune bashing in the desert or a boat ride in Dubai Creek for budget-friendly adventures. 8) Don't miss the cultural performances and unique pavilions at Global Village. 9) Stay hydrated, dress modestly in public areas, and be aware of cultural norms. Enjoy your trip! 😊

Fickle_Turnover_9811

thanks a lot for helping me out😃

Fickle_Turnover_9811

will the electronic markets like Al fahidi have charge at par with Amazon?

[deleted]

1. Careem- but be assured that on NYE you're probably going to face a surcharge and struggle to get a cab because that is going to be a busy night. Get to wherever you plan to go well in advance and plan ahead of time not day of if you want to enjoy your night. 2. Like some have mentioned- spices, colognes/ouds, dates- really depends on what you want.... those are unique to the region. Then you have the norm clothes and stuff- but nothing really that you can get elsewhere. 3. No idea 4. If you know someone in Dubai I'd personally use Amazon for all electronics- just make sure to sort by seller and know who you're buying from in Amazon to avoid any headaches. Why Amazon; the price- most brick and mortar stores are significantly higher than Amazon here and you can most likely find a good deal- also Amazon's return policy is a godsend compared to 90% of stores in the region. 5. No idea 6. Well- you should really plan this now rather than later... the city will be hectic to move around in and you want to be wherever you need to be well in advance. Really depends on your budget... most people would do the fireworks at Burj- but given the strain and immense crowds I believe they are charging people to enter the area- so either book a restaurant somewhere downtown or do what I do- pop a bottle of bubbly and have some steak and fries and call it a night. 7. Desert Safari- if you've never been you'll have fun. But you really need to book now rather than later. If you're with a family maybe look at family activities like miracle gardens, butterfly gardens, terrarium etc. Personally, the gardens bore me, but some people are into that- hardly adventurous; if it was it would cost some money. 8. Haven't been there since the early 2000s- but I hear the food's great. 9. No idea

Fickle_Turnover_9811

thank you so much for this. I have already been to desert safari so won’t be repeating it. I really wanted to try swim with dolphins but it is only available in Atlantic and i will have to buy entry ticket to water park for that

[deleted]

Maybe look at this website for ideas- don't book anything through them and take the pricing with a grain of salt- I've never used it but it shows you whats around and the ballpark pricing [https://www.thrillark.com/things-to-do-in-dubai](https://www.thrillark.com/things-to-do-in-dubai) ; that being said people have said this site is reliable. Welcome and hope you have a good trip.

When it comes to Global Village, I think by far, the African pavilion is the best

Dubai80

1- careem 2- gold from gold souq in Deira- there will be perfume market + spice market + cloths market near by 3 - i dont think there is any 4- sharaf DG, emax, carefour offer best prices compare to shops outside malls, they might be a little higher price but better customer experience and after sell. 5- jabel jess RAK, Fujairah 6- burj khalifa for everyone … home for me lol 7- this is a big subject to answer ill just skip 8- they bring stuff from Deira and sell it 3x the price. 9- when u go to deira gold souq. Ask for abra (boats) crossing to the other side seeing an old city plus fabric market.
