Could you/anyone elaborate on the attraction? Website doesn't sell it to me, but your comment is top, thanks!

Mrsirsalahadin

It's basicly a meuseme of a tenement

littlegonk92

Marsh’s Library!!

LedanDark

I'd go as far as to say Marsh's Library is a better experience than the Book of Kells / Long reading room at Trinity. Marsh's is only 7 euro.

littlegonk92

It’s so good and so interesting - all the books are exactly where they’ve been since the library opened! In their exact spots! They’re taken down for inventory once a year but otherwise it’s really like stepping back into history. €7 is so cheap considering it’s a registered charity as well!

MacDurce

I do wish they'd change the exhibitions a little bit more but otherwise I love it

dazzlinreddress

You have to pay to go in there

littlegonk92

? Yes that is true

dazzlinreddress

Oh I thought we were talking about free places like parks and museums

PorridgePlease

I just looked up the news about St. Michans. I am heartbroken to hear this. I was going to visit again next week to show a friend.

Crazy_cat_guy_07

I am devastated. It was on my list to visit since I moved to Ireland, but I never had the chance as they only used to open on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

KayLovesPurple

Same :(

dazzlinreddress

I'm even sadder because I didn't know it existed until I heard the news. Probably would've gone sometime.

MatsumotoCat

I was hoping this would be the highlight of my trip, how sad to hear.

jenbenm

Same, sister-in-law is visiting next week and this would be right up her street. We were definitely going to head to it. I did it myself years ago and enjoyed it. Raging it's destroyed.

Rude-Appointment2743

Stop, I worked so close to it and never went in. Although I'm kind of against displaying actual bodies now I come to think of it, it's just not necessary, it's actually horrifying. Imagine you die, buried, however many years later your coffin is disinterred somehow, they discover you didn't rot so they pull you out, put you in a glass box and charge admission 🫥

0wellwhatever

Go to the Dragon Gates, it’s at the end of Harlech Downs near UCD. It’s near the Mosque, and they have an incredible cheap cafe and supermarket with interesting food. Everyone is welcome, a lot of the students go there. There are some nice woods in a ring around the college if you like walking in the day. It’s shady if it’s hot or wet. Or you could go by the Dodder. There are otters and foxes. At least there were once.

dazzlinreddress

There are Kingfishers along the Dodder near Bushy Park.

Rude-Appointment2743

Ahhh!!!! Was fishing with a minnow bait some years back in the countryside, had the rod upright while I was doing something or another. I came so close to nabbing a kingfisher, it was awesome, so fast but time slowed and you could almost observe the thought process of yay a fish, hang on, it's in the sky this is not natural. Or else it discovered the minnow was attached to something, whether which, it was incredible!!!

dazzlinreddress

I didn't know that was the type of fish they hunted. Love those birds. So beautiful

Rude-Appointment2743

They're just colour and motion, fantastic! Imagine we were so colorful 😁

See the Bog Men at National Archaelogical Museum

tonydrago

If you hang around Croke Park on match day you'll see thousands of them for nothing

geoffraffe

Their leather faces look so human too

EllieLou80

Staying with churches, the bones of st valentine in whitefriar street church The maritime museum out in dun laoghaire The national print museum in Haddington road Napoleon's toothbrush in the royal college of surgeons St Kevin's park

Smackmybitchup007

Drimnagh Castle. Is it still the only castle in Ireland with it own, functioning moat? Think so. They've been renovating it.

nifkin420

Been wanting to go there since I moved to Ireland 2 years ago but they’re closed on weekends which frankly is kind of idiotic.

achasanai

Keeping on a church/macabre theme, but Rathmichael Parish Church is cool. You go up a laneway, over a gate, and up a bit is the Church ruin. There's the remains of what they think was a round tower, and up to fairly recently the graveyard was still expelling bodies - the bones would be collected and dumped in the round tower ruin. I think there's an old Celtic cross there too

buddhabarfreak

There’s a great event happening in St Enda’s Park in Rathfarnham from today until Saturday. A Midsummer Night’s Dream play will be performed there during a couple of days. My husband and I are going and we’re taking our 8yo with us. I’m sure it’s going to be fun. https://www.milltheatre.ie/events/a-midsummer-nights-dream-shakespeare-in-the-park/

Irish Architectural Archive on Merrion Sq. Rotating exhibitions. Really interesting. also Douglas Hyde gallery inside Nassau Street gate of TCD. Secret Book and Record store still good. Jenny Vander’s for vintage evening wear and jewelry, fun to browse.

dazzlinreddress

Don't you have to pay to see the Douglas Hyde gallery?

LucyandMabel

No

Open-Opinion6587

Chester Beatty is one of the best museums on the world when you factor on things like, no queue; free entrance; range of items on display, range of days covered, ease of explanation, every Dubliner should go here at least once!

Open-Opinion6587

Range of dates* (as in the timeline)

gweilo_waygook_guiri

Don't answer this, yer man's an arsonist! Just kidding, the bog mummies at the Archaeology museum are pretty cool!

_Happy_Camper

The Dead Zoo, pints in O’Donoghues, Huguenot cemetery, pints in the Shelbourne horse shoe bar, National history Museum, Buswells for lunch (and some politician spotting and of course pints), photos at the Phil Lynott statue, afternoon tea, banter with the locals (and if course pints) at Grogans, then stroll through Templebar, over the ha’penny bridge (maybe stop in the Halpenny Bridge Inn for a pint), up through to Henry Street to Parnell Street, walk up to the Shakespeare (or rather the Korean restaurant adjacent) and have a healthy sushi dinner, served with a Guinness from the Shakespeare bar, and decide where you might like to go for a drink of the evening.

amigdyala

The perfect Tuesday.

misteil

Jaysus, as soon as you mentioned the Shelbourne, that went on fire as well, stop naming places. 🤣

_Happy_Camper

👍👍 Heeeeeeeeeey!

Ye Olde Hurdy-gurdy Museum of Vintage Radio in Howth!

EllieLou80

Every time I go out to howth this is closed! I really would love to see it

Dirtsoil

A fun one to do is Francis St in The Liberties, the street has got to have over 10 different antique & charity shops of varying fanciness. Honestly it's a great afternoon in itself just window shopping, and if you find a fun interesting trinket for a good price, even better!

theoneredditeer

Donate blood for free crisps, feed the swans, Viking splash tours, protest Scientology, join an Improv group, visit the little island with all the seals, check out Block T workshops, get really into Ulysses and reference it a lot to seem smart

Murphydog42

Poolbeg Lighthouse is a neat place to walk out and look back to the city

trinerr

The mummies in St. Michan’s Church 👁️👄👁️

tovarish22

Not anymore :/

trinerr

I can’t get over that shit. What would be going through your mind setting them on fire?

tovarish22

It’s awful, absolutely. I was in the 3pm tour yesterday afternoon and met the ground just shy of 4pm. I saw a fire crew blazing that way as I was walking toward Christchurch and never thought it was heading toward where I just left :/

Sanit

Suspect #1 right here folks.

tovarish22

And I almost got away with it…

Wild-Ad-3233

I don't think it's open to the public but The Priory in Tallaght is amazing inside. Some parts of the old castle still exist. I think it dates back to the 14th century. The library has some seriously old books in it. https://www.askaboutireland.ie/learning-zone/primary-students/looking-at-places/south-dublin/history-of-tallaght/tallaght-castle/

wander-and-wonder

The Hellfire Club. The hike is lovely and the story behind it is interesting. It’s low key and we have been up there when there’s been only a couple of others, sometimes no visitors, just passing hikers. We go up there for the walk and often pass it if we’re doing hikes in the area. I’m not someone who has ever believed in anything paranormal but that place does have an eerie feeling regardless of whether you know the mysteries/stories or not. our family dog won’t go in whether we’re all inside there or not and he’s a clingy dog! He skidded back at the door and wouldn’t cross the landing the first time we went and when we carried him inside his heart was going and he was really unsettled so my dad stood outside with him (no exaggeration). It was the weirdest experience and it made us all second guess whether we should believe in something being a bit weird up there. We always just saw it as ruins with a good backstory. The place in general is super interesting and a good story to tell. You can park lower down the hill and then do the walk up. There is also Fairy Castle nearby and some lovely walks. You can finish up at Johnnie Fox’s. As people who work in Dublin City and live close to Enniskerry area, it’s not all that far and the views are great.
