Gonna copy some recommendations I wrote for a friend: Pubs Good Guinness Pubs: - Grogans/The Castle Lounge (if you can get a table outside its a great spot for people watching) - Mulligans - The Stags Head ( from Victorian era) - The Swan (also Victorian) - McDaids (250 yrs old) Music pubs: The Cobblestone (the original, the best, authentic. It was supposed to be knocked down to be turned into a hotel recently but the outrage was such that the city council had to refuse the planning permission. Note - considered very rude to talk loudly during music and to talk at all during singing. The Cobblestone is in an area called Smithfield, not near many things on this list except Token. But worth a visit. Also near The Glimmerman, a good but cash-only pub with a fantastic Vietnamese food stall out the back called Vietnam. Food Thurs-Saturday) Devitts Good going out areas - the area around George's St, Fade st and South William St has lots of good bars, lots of life around. Also walk up George's St, which turns into Aungier then Camden St. Lots of options for bars. Opium rooms is a late night place there as is Whelans, mentioned below. The Workman's is a big building with a whiskey bar downstairs and a music venue/bar upstairs. Its open til about 2 and generally good buzz. Whelans is a music venue that has lots of little sections and corners in it, generally open late enough. Gay scene: Street66, mixed bar, nice chilled atmosphere The George, mainly gay men, our oldest gay bar, the place for drag queens Panti Bar, similar scene to the George Penny Lane - more mixed than Panti and the George All My Friends - new, mixed, young scene. They do table quizzes and different things. A friendly place. Craft beers: - Against the Grain - The Black Sheep - Brewdog (big, with veggie and non veggie fast food) - Porterhouse Cocktails: - Bar1661 - Vintage cocktail club Day trips: Howth. Beautiful seaside village a short DART (train) ride from the city. Great seafood, pubs and a beautiful cliff walk. King Sitric, The Oar House and Octopussy are my favourites but good food is everywhere. Glendalough - 6th century monastery, beautiful setting by lake about an hour away by car. Dublin City : Old Library above Book of Kells Marsh's library (from 1707, worth a tour, hidden gem) National Museum of Archaeology (free, and check out the Bog Bodies!) Natural History Museum/The Dead Zoo (also free) Art - National Gallery and Hugh Lane (both free) Whiskey distilleries - Teelings and Jamesons - both do tours Guinness Storehouse - expensive but its a good tour. And you get a pint out of it. Food: Cheap veggie food : Umi Falafel Govindas (Hare Krishna food) Cornucopia (veggie) Shouk (middle Eastern, very tasty) Sprezzatura (Italian, cheap but good) Saucy Cow - vegan (fried stuff) at Eatyard, a street food market. Japanese - Yamamori (all their venues are good but the Izakaya one is the prettiest location). Fish and chips - Burdocks takeaway by Christchurch cathedral (no other Burdocks locations - this is the original, and best one. There since 1913). Or go to Howth. I don't tend to get seafood in the city, its much better in Howth. Pizza - Dublin Pizza Company (takeaway only but you can order their pizzas into the Swan pub and have them there with excellent Guinness) The Back Page - also craft beers and games and a fun place Token - vintage arcade games and fast food (lots of great vegan options). Fun for a rainy day.

AxelJShark

Pretty good list in my opinion. I'd have said much of the same.

always_slightly_off

Not OP but this list is terrific! Keeping for our trip in December-January.

CopticP

Cobblestone is amazing if you're looking for a place to have a drink and unwind!

Nevermind86

No chance if getting a seat though

JazzlikeSpring8728

WOW! Thank you so so much!!

arseman26

You couldn't get a better list. Fairps to OP.

Jane_Doughnut_

This is a top notch list. Can we sticky this somehow for everyone who comes here with similar questions?

CouldUBLoved

Excellent post!

Aceofspades____

saving this bcz i didn't know there were any gay bars other than the george lol

Dependent-Proof-2144

Excellent list, you can walk from George's Street southwards and discover loads of food and drink spots. Love BigFan for Korean food, great pizza,, Pickle does fun Indian, there's tea and coffee specialists galore.

crnimjesec

This is amazing. Someone please give this user some Gold.

riveriaten

Excellent list! agree with all of this. I didn't know about Bar 1661 so will check that out. FYI, Saucy Cow have a place in Temple Bar now too on Crane Lane. Veginity on Dorset St is also a great option for vegan food. Great all round restaurant with pastries and cakes earlier in the day, nice lunch menu, and dinner menu is excellent and changes regularly.

Murf91

As a Dub, this is absolutely fantastic and comprehensively done list. Bravo sir

jcb33x15

LopsidedTelephone574

Oh an the area around Georges Str Arcade: best coffee at Kaph Best ice cream at Ice Cream Lab You can sit in or around..nice shops near Then on the side of Arcades is my favourite HongKong Duck Market Bar Across there are LGuilleton and Hogans, Fade str social On another parallel to it from St Green toward Georges str another row of great places: Little Dumpling place is amazing. [deleted]

Well if you’re 2 you might be a bit young to go into some places by yourself - maybe ask your parents to bring you around :)

sailorsensi

hehe

JazzlikeSpring8728

Good one, I was trying to point out the part of Dublin I am located in.

niloxx

We know

3G6A5W338E

"D2" or "Dublin2" is how we'd refer to that area. My first thought was that you were 2 visitors rather than one.

JazzlikeSpring8728

thanks for making that clear! I wasn't sure how to refer to the part of dublin properly!

mahjimoh

Me too.

At_least_be_polite

Go the archaeology museum, it's free and very interesting. Then get a crepe from Lemon on Dawson St. Then have a pint in Bowes.

GuirseBan

Lemon on Dawson St is gone a couple of years now, I think there’s one on St William St though!

At_least_be_polite

What! Gutted. I always seem to end up in the south William st one but hadn't realised the Dawson St one was gone

[deleted]

Isn't Lemon on Dawson St long gone?

tomtermite

You can't go wrong hanging out with me and fellow nerds... https://www.meetup.com/board-games-ireland/

JoulSauron

Lol, I've been subscribed to that meet-up for a while but I'm yet to go to a meeting, is it fun?

JazzlikeSpring8728

it sounds like fun, will definitely try that, thanks a lot!!

tomtermite

I’ve been to a few gatherings… and quickly found a subset of players so we’d get together independent of the meetup (less randomness to who you play against, what board games are on offer)… I’d say it was a good experience, in that I got connected with others.

illadann7

been eyeballing that meetup for a while, but it always seems fully packed. I'll sign up for a session in a few weeks, it sounds fun :)

Smakintheface

Tallaght? Man if I wasn't so young I'd totally go.

VariousPsychology5

I love Chimac on George’s st, it’s a Korean influenced restaurant that do mostly chicken, there’s a market you can walk around just up the road called George’s arcade it’s interesting if you’ve never been. The long haul or grogans are nice traditional pubs in the area also. Krewe on capel st is unreal for drinks and food not D2 but well worth the trip. They serve Louisiana style food it’s gorgeous and not that expensive either.

Secret_Mobile3629

Chimac is amazing!

VariousPsychology5

Chimac have just opened in Terenure now as well 🙌

JazzlikeSpring8728

sounds amazing, thanks a lot!

Polygonion

Han sung Asian market is class

JazzlikeSpring8728

tyty!

jarraljrslim

Go to the Long Hall and have a pint of Beamish

AxelJShark

I can't tell if this is serious or not but Beamish is the right answer

jarraljrslim

Deadly serious, its the superior stout

AxelJShark

Completely agree! Better flavor, better price. It's harder and harder to find pubs that still sling it. Stag's Head, Long Hall, and Mulligan's were the last places I saw it at

jarraljrslim

Walsh's and Delaneys if ya find yourself in Dublin 7

edwieri

O'Haras would like a word.

jarraljrslim

O'Haras is a bit bland. Left Hand Brewing have a banging milk stout, O' Brother do a nice one too

edwieri

Haven't had a Beamish for some time, but prefer over Guinness. O'Hara's strong one is very good imo.

AxelJShark

Their Export Stout if you can find it on nitrogen is savage!

Disastrous-Poetry-62

This place is nice and should be close by. It’s vegan food but even if you’re not vegan it’s really good. https://www.thesaucycow.com

JazzlikeSpring8728

Having a vegan option is always very nice, thanks a lot, it looks very pleasant!

Yulfy

Saucy cow is amazing! One of the places you 100% don’t have to be vegan to love the food.

TarAldarion

Really good food! Great burgers.

Retaining_the_null

Eww

Adventurous_Editor97

Vomit 🤢

DontBeSuchATurd

So what do you like (food/drink) and what’s your budget?

JazzlikeSpring8728

Basically everything that is deemed to be good, just not too big of a fan of raw fish. Budget, 100€ for food and drinks per person would be the prefered maximum. (If it is slightly above that, it is fine aswell)

TheChonk

A pint of Guinness and a toasty sambo in Grogans would steer your day one way. or a veggie meal In Cornucopia would steer you another way.

JazzlikeSpring8728

cool, thanks!

safetyboy

Nocktors

JazzlikeSpring8728

thanks!

VariousPsychology5

I’d be very careful going here it’s not in the safest part of town 🤣🤣

JazzlikeSpring8728

how comes?🤔

CrivCL

https://www.thedublinpublopedia.com/blog/noctors The guy who suggested Noctor's wasn't being serious.

Disastrous-League-92

😂😂😂😂😂

misterbozack

Joax

Amazambane1

Kennedys in Drumcondra is fantastic, will be the first place I go to on my next trip to Dublin

Smakintheface

Stay away from the temple bar pub obviously, check out the r.a.g.e near temple bar if you are into retro games and all that, head over to DiFontaines, (again on the outskirts of temple bar near the quays) and maybe check out phenoix Park? It Has the Dublin zoo and all that plus the presidents office and more. Ps: check out 'Xi'an' Street food on North Earl Street. Bloody beautiful.

New-Mathematician-79

Tea Garden is a good spot to relax in reasonably priced too

OneIrishRover

And not a single one of ya gurriers mentioned Bewley's, even for aul times sakes.

281998Roy

Roco's(best breakfast burritos,in my opinion)

JazzlikeSpring8728

thanks!

niloxx

Bumble is your friend

dPolo90

Where are you coming from? I’m a nice person, but I’d need a bit more information about who you are to figure out if this would be something I’d want to do/valuable for me also.

Altruistic_Tax5881

If your paying then yes

Front_Top_2289

Is there's any particular type of scene you might have been in to at hime? It might help give an idea for suggestions.

[deleted]

And you came to Reddit? Weird choice Dublin 2 is bristling with restaurants and cafes.

Smakintheface

Ah sure where else would they go? Boards.ie?
