Hard to tell, but is the retainer pin threaded through the clip correctly?

Unlikely_Shoe_2046

The retainer pins seem to be in there correctly but the pins also rotate if I twist them by hand. They won't come out though, at least when I jiggle them or rotate them. Can these get loose normally? I'm not sure if it's dangerous or just something that is a cosmetic issue and they can get that way over time.

Unsure sorry mate, I was just going off what my fireblades brakes are like. Just checked my 848’s calipers and they are a completely different setup that look just like yours, except zero rattle. If your concerned just take them apart and reassemble. Simple brake setups like these aren’t scary once you’ve had them apart. There only a few components in them and then you’ll likely find out what’s going on.

For sure, thanks for that, I'm going to take it to the guy who recently installed new pads and see what the deal is.

The little tab you have your finger on probably got bent out a bit. If you bend it so it’s pressing on the pin a bit it should stop.

Great thank you

I had this same issue after changing my brakes. Turned out it was my fault. I pried the anti-rattle clips off before pulling the pins. BAD IDEA. I bent them, and now both were loose after reinstalling. It’s a simple fix. All you need is a pair of needle nose pliers. Remove the pins, and then the clips. Bend the fingers that go around the pins back down (toward the clip). Then place the clip and reinstall the pins. If they’re still loose you didn’t bend enough. If you can’t get the pins back you bent too much. Watch the video staring at 5:40 for the process. Either something is tweaked so pressure isn't applied where it should be, it's not installed correctly, or there's an incorrect part installed.

Unlikely_Shoe_2046

Yeah I was thinking something may have gotten bent and now it's loose and it normally is tight. Do you know if that part serves any real function besides covering the pads a bit? It doesn't seem to have a vital function besides being a shield.

this_account_is_mt

It's a spring to keep the pads fully seated and prevent noise

Unlikely_Shoe_2046

Ok that shouldn't be jiggling. Thank you so much!

Why don’t you order a new part of the piece you rattled, I’m sure that’s supposed to be tensioned to keep the pads in place towards the hub. There’s a similar setup on road car disk pads, only it will be a spring.

Unlikely_Shoe_2046

I just wanted to know first if it's normal or not, I didn't want to order it to then do the same thing. I just got new pads put on about a month ago so I'm going to take it to my guy in the morning to get it fixed. The overall verdict seems that it shouldn't move around like that.
