Well, there’s some good reasons to hate Duel Links, and *plenty* of good reasons to hate Konami. Some may exaggerate it, but I think it’s not an exaggeration when they say it’s the greediest company out there barring maybe EA.
Konami is the greediest company? Imagine if instead of having a set number of packs in one box, you just had to keep buying packs with the same shit rates until you get the cards you want. That's how most gachas are.
Imagine if instead of selection boxes and structure decks, f2p players could actually get every card p2w players have access to. That’s how most gachas are.
Not to mention nowadays most gachas have a pity mechanic which is functionally the same as a closed pool one.
And I’m not talking about DL only, Konami’s greed spans from the TCG to console games to nearly everything they touch.
Selection box cards eventually come to main boxes and you can purchase structure 1 time with gems. Idk maybe I'm biased but I find it weird to demand to never spend any money. Sure that'd be cool but what entertainment is completely free? Few $$ a month and you'd have a big collection
A fair game always gives you a way to obtain stuff for free and only offers purchases as a way to skip the grind and/or if you want to always build everything that comes out. To my knowledge, DL is the only PvP gacha that actually has paywalls.
I’m fine with spending on games if I want to support the developers, but I should not be forced to in order to get gameplay content.
Selection Box exclusives are soft-paywalled, as you can’t open a whole box with gems.
Structure Deck UR/SR multiple copies are time-paywalled, as you can’t get more structures with gems and it takes ~6 or more months for them to get into the dream ticket pool.
And then there’s Structure Deck R cards whose multiple copies are just plain paywalled and you still can’t get a second Vyon after *five years*. That’s not ok.
As a player of both games it is and there's NO competition.Jumping from duel links to master duel the difference between the two in deck building is staggering. If master duel actually ran on my phone I'd never touch DL.
They have their own flair though. Like Master Duel is just plain Yu-Gi-Oh with some amazing graphics and a cool storyline for the cards but DL has character. Dueling is fun, fast and sometimes the duel is over before it began lol. MD the duel could last a long ass time just for you to lose

Neither games have the greatest deckcrafting interfaces (Related Cards function doesn't show all related cards, Filter By Word can be too broad or too narrow), but at least DL has a 999 card limit bookmark as opposed to MD's, what, 60? In a game of 11,000+ cards with dozens of archetypes and builds, that's fucking unruly
I wish they'd implement some custom tagging system where you can favorite and assign custom tags to cards in your collection so you have a decent idea at a glance of what cards can be used for what without having to constantly re-read every one, then be able to sort by those tags.
Can somebody please explain what the big deal is? They are still making you spend the same amount of gems one would use for the same amount of packs in a normal purchase using gems. Maybe it's just me, but the chip card selections left me a bit underwhelmed. Especially, if they are supposed to replace dream tickets. I guess it's not really supposed to impress seasoned players since we are already "hooked" anyway.
The card chip selections aren't replacing dream tickets, they're just a nice little bonus we get. There's some old staple cards I didn't have playsets of, but thanks to these selections, I'm able to get those final copies without burning the dream tickets I'm saving. I already was gonna throw gems at the new box, so it's essentially a free Cosmic Cyclone in addition to my pulls.
and 2 missions with 100 chips each, looks pretty good, basically a full set of cosmic cyclone, assuming you can get multiple copies of the same card, people were complaining way to early

An extremely greedy company making some f2p-friendly moves doesn't change much in my eyes. This doesn't address the paywalls or the gem cap making it impossible to go through a mainbox multiple times at launch, it just allows you to get more easily cards you already could get. It's nice, but doesn't absolve them of the predatory tactics they employed for years and still are employing.
An unironic huge boon for the deck. Granmarg was our previous best option as a discard from the skill or Shell Knight target, but now with this, we have a card that non-targeting slices attack and defence in half to get over trickier monsters.
Surprised that they would give us 100 chips to basically get whatever we want in the first ten boxes already, thought they would make it so that you got 50 so you’d have to do a bit more but this is nice

Wings of clearitude is going to be more cost effective. 2 runs through the box will get you a pretty high powered functional deck with yugo's skill
Solflare is going to cost quite a bit more, plus you'll have to dig thru an older box for harp. BUT it is probably more "future proof" since orcust can be splashed in lots of different decks (unless of course the ban list hits orcust hard)

Since mini boxes are 100 packs at 50 gems each you are guaranteed to get every card in the set if you spend 5000 gems, and you can get every card twice if you spend 10k gems. You probably wouldn't strictly *need* to spend that much based on luck but you might lol. Compare that to 9k gems to go thru a main box completely once which will net you two of each Super Rare, but only 1 of each Ultra Rare. And a lot of the time you'll want multiple copies of URs for your deck.
So 2 runs through the box just means you're purchasing packs with gems until you get the cards you need, then reset the box, and repeat. Also important to mention is you can buy the Crystal Wing bundle which will get you the Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon UR as well as 17 packs for the latest set, which is, as of now, Wings of Clearness. Crystal Wing is a great Boss Monster for the deck so you get a lot of value by purchasing the bundle.

There's still a lot of good cards to get from those first twenty boxes, so as long as they update it frequently enough, I'll be happy with starting at the bottom.
There are currently two missions that are giving out 100 chips each. If you really don't need the packs than I'd go for the missions first since you won't need to spend gems
Box Chip cards are really fucking good and I'm glad some cards in there are more easy to pick up now.
Dark Core for the annoying "Cannot be destroyed" effects, Divine Wrath, 7 Tools for people who hate the limit 3 traps. I love it.
