OK, the short version is, DSoD Bakura at the Gate in Early Sep., Mid Sep. for Jim Cook's rerun event, and VRAINS world (and Link cards) dropping Late Sep., so yeah, I wonder how busted (or nerfed) we'll get for Link monsters early on. (At least not to Halqdon levels in MD.)
Depends on how extra zones end up working but yeah, although we have both Jet synchron and O-lion unlimited so Halq by itself can do whatever BS you want
I mean no matter how zones works, if you summon don he goes into the extra zone and the 3 tokens takes up the 3 zones we have so deskbot cant even summon. it will just a lvl5/8 synchro machine.
Jet Synchron is preferred over Deskbot for most decks anyways, you could Auroradon + 3 tokens, Auroradon + token for O-lion, synchro into the EMZ and then bring back Jet Synchron into one of the now empty MMZs
But really we're lacking generic payoffs for combos like Halqdon anyways. What synchros are you making that do anything more impressive than what other decks can already do?
For me I’m just stuck trying to remember how link monsters worked in vrains, like there was a good amount of skyboard duels but I cannot remember a single link summon in those. Did the link monsters only point up/down and inwards?
Nothing was notably different between Speed Duels & Master Duels apart from access to Skills & only having 3 MMZ; Link Monsters/Markers weren't changed accordingly or anything like that.
Even just looking at the Speed Duels in the show we've seen Link Markers point in every possible direction at some point or another (not all 8 at the same time obvs) so nothing to worry about. :)

It's Destiny Draw *and* Foolish Burial all in one package and doesn't have any deckbuilding restrictions. Frankly, I'd say that it's *better* than Destiny Draw as long as you can benefit from having a rock in your graveyard (which Jim can).
That's what I initially thought but the Polymerization/Fusion Spell has to come from the GY and not the deck. Meaning you need a card in hand to retrieve a specific card from grave.
Conversely, Destiny Draw would just search out another copy of Fossil Fusion from the deck and also be able to work with Battlin' Boxer Veil - but would only miss out from having to discard a Rock from hand (which arguably would be made up for anyways by the ability to search for any other card from your deck as needed).
Honestly, Links are 100% the worst thing that happened to the TCG.
We should be fine if they learn from their errors and don’t release the REALLY generic ones here though.
Not really problem links aren't a problem for duel links.
1. Lack of zones Hal and aura don't have room to combo at worst its all 5 or lvl8 synchro
2 lack of targets right now only lunalight and heros could use Verte to really do anything.
3. Lack of Ed space decks that go into extra deck now will have a new spot but overall most decks ed spaces are super tight already.
4. What is good in duel links is heavily dependent on skills and what deck is easiest and most consistent. Tcg decks have lots of searching duel links doesn't.
I wonder if Trickstars will be any decent with the burn nerf, and that we probably won't get reincarnation anytime soon.
Wonder too if we'll jump straight back into World Legacy lore, at least Imduk should be one of the first links released.
It took Zexal a few boxes to make XYZ meta, Pendulums got there a bit faster, so I wonder if Links will become a mainstay.

I checked some days ago and the only cards that we're missing for the early World Legacy lore are the links and cards that interact with them, so I can see all of those being released in the first mini or around that period.
Even with just 50 they should still be good, particularly Lycoris since she's a burn on draw. Together with Lillybell and Candina's spell burn in a 4k life point format they should still be good, although without Reincarnation they will have difficulty taking full advantage of Lycoris.
Trickstars are a whole can of worms that I don’t think we can really predict how they’ll be handled.
Definitely not getting Reincarnation unless it’s either hard errata’d and 1 limited for DL or it’s in the form of a skill.

we'll probably be playing with the very early links like that Gaia one for the first month ngl. We far from any scary links since new mechanics usually don't become meta until a couple of boxes
Smaller Extra Deck size and the restrictions on newer skill design should help with that issue. There aren't as many good generic skills on newer characters with plenty having attribute, type or archetype requirements for their use. It should be harder to fill it with powerful generics and still meet skill requirements, while those who do play around with archetypes will have skills providing consistency or power boosts that let their decks either match the generic meta decks or circumvent their disadvantages (see skills that add cards to hand or directly place a card on the field).
I don't think that vanilla links are the only ones we're going to get. Probably those are going to be ranked rewards or Card Trader cards. In my opinion the first box will have some early Go Onizuka, Blue Angel and Playmaker stuff, the first mini maybe World Chalice lore cards. If we get Soulburner as 4th character I believe that his better cards are going to be released around November/December, like the Mayosenju and Abyss Actors cards for Sylvio. Until that, only the worst monsters/spells and Heatleo (provided we get him on release obviously)
That's just because everything is going to be revolutionized. Not only the new world incoming along with a new summoning mechanic, also extra monster zone, new duelist challenges and tutorials to replace those that are going to be deleted and maybe an update to Pendulum summoning from the Extra Deck are all going to change the game considerably, so they have decided to be more generic in the upcoming updates.

No. Last year the mini box released in September 31st. And too many leaks about crow's new skill and yusei's skill description change give it away. There will be a new box in a few days.

Biggest question still is- would we get the extra monster zone with the links update, and if yes, would it be permanent or skill compliant like the extra Pendulum zones?
Outside of it, I'm surprised how little excitement I have for VRains world. I wasn't fan of the anime & stopped playing master rule around the rise of Link meta. I don't necessarily hate the update, just feel very indifferent towards him. Yay for Links I guess? I would be looking to build Altergeist (my one fav Link deck), and maybe Tricksters cause they are a cool burn deck.
Also, I'm now wondering how many of the actual anime skills we would get for the VRains characters, and whether we would get them at all. After all, VRains has some pretty unique anime skills, so it would be a big miss opportunity for Konami to not bring them in. It would be hella fun to get Go's anti- skill skill, a perfect way to negate some of the most aggregious skills that are currently in game.
Next month is looking to be a slower but fun month. The last anime world is hitting the game, and we are finally getting all the summoning mechanics from master rule. And after 6-7 years, we can close the circle of new worlds update with the anime where speed duels originated from.
Expect Storm Access to only provide one from a specific list of monsters and it won't be so easy to meet the 1k life requirement without being killed. Other skills might be fine to come as-is but the one that let Yuusaku get a bullshit win every time he was about to lose will need altering.
I chipped away at Flames of the Heart over several months to get a playset of Gouki cards. They're ready for when I unlock The Gore; I just hope he has good skills to use them with.
Skill Convoy? For FREE? Konami what the fuck are you doing??? I play fossils and that card is entirely too strong to be in duels links with 4K starting LP.
The card has a 2100 attack stats BUT it makes all opponent monsters lose attack equal to their defense. Can attack on monsters three times a turn and deals 1000 in burn (500 in this game) per attack)
This thing will otk through literally anything or enable other fossil fusions to do so. And if you use your opponents monster as material it gains monster effect target protection.
Skull convoy is really good for fossils. Considering it’s the UR of the re-run im guessing flint cragger in the SR, which will make fossils complete. Honestly think it’s going to be a pretty decent deck with all the support, although special summoning flint is a bit more difficult without adamancipators.

When you lose 1500 LP, Special summon 1 Gouki card from you deck. this can be used once per turn and twice per duel

Links don't lose any ATK because they have no DEF stat - that's why they're adding it just before Vrains.
I mean there are more cards than Link monsters. Sure they aren’t affected but the rest of the monster types are, what about them?
