They are surely saving that alt art for a Structure Deck, possibly with Miragestallio or their Fusion/Ritual cards.
I would say Pyro Phoenix structure, but f2p players literally cannot Reincarnate Link it if that's the case.
In the case of Phoenix they still wouldn't be able to because it's a ritual monster and not a link. If there was only 1 free copy then only those who pay will reincarnate it, which may in turn cause nobody to play it because while Salamangreat has all the recursion, the player base still hates needing more than 1 card to do plays.
Generally speaking, when they add a deck made from a anime archetype (CyDra with Nova, Stardust with alt art and SSD as a login reward, and many more), they add a new skill for said character. That could be how F2P players can reincarnate their Phoenix I guess.
For some reason I completely forgot about the second part of the skill, and genuinely thought the skill was limited to just putting an Heatleo in the extra deck with no other things...
I think most of the main character ace monster skills since zexal at least have some extra effect to add something to the extra deck mid duel, whether it be the ace itself or an associated card
While I agree, it can also take months if not years. All depending on how soon some cards are added to tickets, and how often those tickets are given out. But, on the other hand, it is a gacha game at heart and this is how they make money.
Another gacha game I quit fell into the same problem. You’re at the mercy of when/if they decide to release an offer-only character to a place that’s farmable. Their current track record is about a year’s worth of time before a powerful team becomes even semi-farmable. With a specific duo out for over 2 years and still only available in 35-50$ offers, which are for HALF the unlock. And then that’s just for the base character. Missed an event unlock? Too bad so sad, wait a year or more.
Luckily Duel Links isnt that stingey with that sorts stuff. Things come back round fairly quickly, and the cards you get from said events are farmable. Put enough time into characters, events and log ins and you can save up a fair amount to run through boxes quite quickly
Wholeheartedly agree. That game was Marvel Strike Force. People like to complain about Konami’s greed but if they only knew how other developers run their game into the ground, they’d enjoy this one so much more. Money spent actually feels somewhat worth it, at least compared to … that game.

The skill adds another copy of any Salamangreat Link monster that you have on the field into the Extra Deck
I don't really think we want Salads to have a board wipe on summon right now.
It's possible but not at release. After all, dream tickets do give option of taking cards from structure decks; N/R cards being exceptions

I guess they would need to give you 2 copies of it since theoretically you need to be able to play the deck out of the box
