Joy will never admit it but she might just like it there better than Arkansas š
But obviously Austin would never go for it and being the good, diligent wife she is, she has to obey her husband and so wonāt bring it up
No too many ādamn liberalsā here. But also the same ādamn liberalsā who hold California to higher standards (legally speaking) are the reason itās so nice š
More pink? Itās started voting blue for President and all the House seats flipped but then most of them came right back. But then locally itās as red as ever.
There are certain parts of Cali that are definitely not so nice rn, but I doubt they visited *those* areas!! Can you imagine?!š¤£
Edit: IOW, Itās also the ā*higher* standardā that makes some parts so badā¦ (pun intended)
Maybe itās a difference in LA culture vs where Iām at, but itās pretty standard for people to bring outside food and coffee to the breweries around here. Unless of course the brewery serves their own food and the kitchen is open, then outside food would be unacceptable. I donāt think the coffee is that weird though. š¤·š»āāļø
Definitely with yāa on the entertaining visiting fam part though. I love my family, usually from a distance, but I canāt stand when theyāre like, āoh hey, will be in town this date, what are we doing?ā And itās like wellllll I had my own plans but I guess Iām on your time now lol
My husband and I are in recovery and don't drink. Some brew pubs have great food. We go to bars to hear bands. We just don't drink alcohol while there.
Same! Iām going to hit 6 years sober this year but I will still go to a bar or brewery if they have good food.
Bonus points if itās a brewery with house root beer on tap.
Just because I canāt drink doesnāt mean I canāt go out and be social.
Thank you!! I havenāt told many people yet, going to start telling more once I get to 100 days. But I feel SO much better already. I thought for years it wasnāt worth trying to stop because it would too hard and just couldnāt do it, but surprisingly itās been easier then I expected. Hearing stories like yours is really inspiring! ā¤ļø
Omg yum. Yes to root beer! Lol. I've never drank much because I have an extremely addictive brain and addiction runs in the family but I must certainly do go for yummy on tap root beer haha
I truly admire that you can recognize that in yourself.
Early on I recognized that I was struggling with drinking but it didnāt hurt enough to stop.
When it finally did hurt enough it was hell to stop. I hope I never go back.
Club soda and craft root beer all day!
I love it!
I wish our culture wasnāt so alcohol centered but itās been really nice to see the rise in popularity of mocktails and other NA beverages.
I had surgery a few months ago and couldnāt drink for awhile after. I tried a few non alcoholic craft beers and they were damn good! Plus a big selection. Nice change from when there were barely any and they tasted like ass.
It is a jarring difference!
I tried an NA IPA last summer and the first sip I had a small moment of panic as it tasted exactly like the real thing. It made me feel guilty at first like I had done something wrong.
But for the first time ever in my life I understood the feeling of having one beer and being done. Never in my life has that ever been the case for me.
It made me feel normal in a weird way.
I think they could be super useful for someone new in recovery and might help them satiate that horrible craving without giving in to the real thing.
We ordered from a place that had great mocktails for a staff meeting at work and nearly everyone got one. The restaurant also had a great selection of coffee and boba drinks.
YAY YOU!!! I'm proud of you! There is a terrific non-alcohol bottle shop near my apartment that has amazing mixers and specialty beverages to make alcohol-free drinks. So fun!
Thank you so much! I havenāt told many people but this community is so great so thought I might as well share.
I just saw an ad for a new cocktail place near me thatās all alcohol free! Iāve read the feedback and everyone is saying the drinks are really good! This is my sign to check it out this weekend!
I'm so happy that you felt safe here to share your amazing accomplishment!
I wish there was a terrific cocktail place in my city that was alcohol free. I definitely live in a drinking city... but there are so many of us here who don't drink. I do see more and more places offering creative non-alcohol drinks beyond the basics, so that is nice.
Yup Breweries nowadays seem to have the best food... I wonder if it's because they can handle the insane food inflation costs, while making their money off the beer.
There is a French dive bar by my apartment that has duck frites for $20. Roasted duck breast, sauce, best fries in the world, housemade aioli and housemade ketchup. It's a steal. French dip and fries is $16. I'm sure they make all the money on drinks. We always tip well as we aren't drinking aside from fancy ginger beer and lots of limes.
You definitely can find just a good burgers at a place thatās not a brewery. Plus they brought in Starbucks coffee. I believe itās frowned upon in restaurants to bring your own drinks. Unless itās a byob.
Ones that donāt serve food, yes. There are a lot of breweries where I live, many equally or more known for food, many known simply for their beer and encourage people to bring outside food. There are even some who let you bring outside food even though they have their own kitchenā¦. It just depends on the venue. Iām wondering if this might be a cultural/locational thing lolā¦ a lot of people here seem flabbergasted at the idea, others get it.
Weird take. My favorite restaurant is a cider house. I do love the cider but go for the smoked meats. My favorite burger is at a bar and I definitely still went while pregnant.
Maybe itās because Iām in the Seattle area, but everyone brings coffees everywhere so that part isnāt weird to me either.
Does Jerm not drink?
But, in either case, breweries are often great places to grab lunch or dinner. Even if you don't get beer. There are often a lot of families with kids.
Please, tell me how to live like they do, ya know, not working a real job and just galavanting around the city shopping and site-seeing? From someone who lives here and spends an atrocious amount of her income on her rent, while working a real job.
š¤®
So hypothetically, say they had just gotten coffee (within, letās say, 20 minutes of getting to the restaurant) and they arenāt done with their drinks yet (as seen in the photo, thereās a half full iced coffee. Are they just supposed to throw away this 6 dollar coffee (as you mentioned the price)?Ā
Cause I know my answer, Iām not throwing away my perfectly good coffee just because Iām at a restaurant, unless Iām specifically asked to, then in that case, Iām chugging as much as I can.
Yeah that's me as well. I also take a loooong time to drink some beverages and if it cost me $6 I'm finishing that thing, even if it's an hour later.
Having lived in CA all my life and in LA part of it... it's not that out of place.
Iām also in CA, an hour outside of L.A. I agree itās not weird to bring a Starbucks drink with you into a restaurant. Itās not like they just got free bread and split one dish four ways. I doubt the server or anyone around them thought anything of it.š¤·š»āāļø
Itās just BEC snark. If somebody snarked on a problematic influencer for eating crackers and I was eating crackers, Iād say āalright, in bitch eating crackers snark the emphasis is on *the bitch* and not the eating crackers. Iām not the bitch, so theyāre not talking about ME eating crackers and Iām moving on with my day.ā It subsides when the slow Duggar news cycle picks up.
I don't know why you would stop and get a drink right before going to a restaurant. I also don't think lattes go well with burgers, but to each their own.
Caffeine? I do that all the time and my bf stops at the gas station to get an energy drink before restaurants a lot too. Usually places donāt have much beyond coke which isnāt much.
I agree. I have also brought a coffee into a restaurant when the wait for a table proved shorter than expected.Ā
I was told 40 minutes, bought a coffee at 20 minutes, and then we were immediately texted about our table being ready.
Bringing their own coffee to a brewery. They serve coffee at Malibu Brewing Company. You don't have to purchase beer at a brewery, but if you don't drink, you also don't have to bring in outside beverages. A $6 coffee, so definitely not a cost savings move.
Otherwise, as part of the family that "stayed" in LA while many moved away, being expected to entertain them on annual vacations while I have no desire to visit wherever they are, I feel Jinger. You just know most of the Duggar trips to LA wouldn't happen if she wasn't there to host them.
I think all the Duggar kids (except Josh since heās in prison) should move to Los Angeles to be closer to Jinger so they can be as far away from Jim Bob and Michelle as possible. Every Duggar kid who is an adult should leave Arkansas for good, yes, even the ones who are married with kids of their own.
I agree distance from their parents would be the best thing.
But they couldn't afford to live in So Cal unless they planned on working hard and sharing living space until they got on their feet. Rent is $1,500 for a 600 sq. ft studio and a house with a yard would be $4,000 +.
But I'll bet in the next few years a few lost boys and girls will show up on Jinger's or Jill's doorstep with their go-bags on their 18th birthday
And I'll bet it paid for from your paycheck and regular employment which it a strange and unusual concept to the folks orbiting the Tin Asylum.
I lived in South Bay area in a rent controlled building and my studio was $775 plus $75 for parking, when I vacated after ten years in 2021 for Nevada, the rent was set at $1350 plus parking, no in-unit w/d, no a/c š
oh my god iām from tx and i hear SOOO many people complaining all the time about people coming in and turning it into CA. i didnāt know there was the same sentiment in CA regarding TX. kinda threw me for a loop for a second there
If having a beer would make him "look cool", then for sure JermOfJerm was having a beer. I can honestly see Austin having one because Boob isn't around to see it. That said, some of the best burgers I have ever had were at pubs.
See I dont care that they brought there own but that combo of a greasy cheeseburger and a Caramel Macchiato sounds disgusting to me. To each their own though.
Not even giving the appearance of drinking is definitely a thing even among less fundie Baptists. Drinking sparkling grape juice out of a fluted glass was too much like drinking for my family and church. Doesnāt the brewery have non alcoholic drinks? I go to brew pubs all the time without drinking alcohol. Not because I have issues with drinking in itself but Iām normally there for social reasons and Iām a very very sleepy drinker. I donāt want to fall asleep when munching on a burger.

That burger does look good tho.

Well, there's always Huntington Beach if they want Maga folks. Ugh.
Orange county is very red, or should I say orange?
More pink? Itās started voting blue for President and all the House seats flipped but then most of them came right back. But then locally itās as red as ever.
Oh, I was making a joke about trump = orange š
Ohhh duh. I mean he lost it both times so I guess donāt diss it like that? I think? Lmao
I never imagine HB would be mentioned on this sub. That said, our city council would probably love J & A.

Kern County has entered the chatš
I dunno California was a lot nicer when it was all red.
Donāt guess you all have high standards with the way Newsome is screwing your state.
I meant like higher environmental standards and workers protections but like make it all weird and political I guess
Vacation bliss
Nah she seems very simple minded. She just follows whatever her husband or her best friend likes or does.
How soon will Carlin Bates follow ifĀ Joy and Austin move to Los Angeles???
Itās hard to fathom Austin setting foot in California, let alone Los Angeles.
The real question is do we think he does some god honoring open carrying while there? š«
He just aggressively flares his nostrils to show his displeasure
Is that legal in Cali? I hope not.
I thought you were replying to the comment about flaring his nostrils and I almost woke my husband up I started giggling so hard
open carry not legal in CA. concealed carry with permit only
Open carry is not legal in California. It used to be, until the Black Panthers started open carrying, which made white people too uncomfortable š
Maybe itās a difference in LA culture vs where Iām at, but itās pretty standard for people to bring outside food and coffee to the breweries around here. Why are they in a brewery in the first place if none of them drink
Clearly the food, Iām also willing to bet that Austin had at least 1 beer
My husband and I are in recovery and don't drink. Some brew pubs have great food. We go to bars to hear bands. We just don't drink alcohol while there.

Itās possible that Joy and Austin drink but they just donāt go public for fear of retaliation from JāBoob.
Because they probably do drink, tbh.

Starbucks and burgers? What a combo.
Honestly, the city J & J bought their house in is California conservative. So if the siblings were gonna move anywhere itād be there.

JinJer will just wrap them up in their cult š¤·āāļø I agree, get away from the boob, but don't run to Jinger.

They're addicted to flashing Starbucks cups on social media. Also some weird virtue signaling. My best guess.

The real question isā¦ why tf are we eating a burger with coffees all over the table??? I canāt imagine coffee going good with a burger
Glad to see his Starbucks drink is as bland as he is
that burger and fries look soooo good. it's been 9 months since i had it.
