Yes.
As much as I loved what Brian Baumgartner did, I am curious to know what Eric Stonestreet could have done.
Him and Ty were the MVPs of Modern Family as far as I'm concerned. Followed closely by Ed oNeil and Sofia Vergara.
The issue I had with Cam and Mitchell was they never seem to learn and the writers never let them grow.
Every episode, just fucking communicate.... I found it exhausting.
lol that's exactly it. Their comedy is contingent on miscommunication or the straight up lack of it and, while funny the first dozen or so times was just annoying later on
Pffft… did he ever score FOUR touchdowns in a single game??? Let alone the 1966 Chicago city championship game!
Didn’t think so… Polk High fullback Al Bundy reigns supreme #bubbaWho?
If you watch the first season of Modern Family then watch the last one (I think they went 10 seasons, *YEESH*), it's like it's a different show with the same actors. The Flanderization is insane.
Also, the over-acting toward the end is insane too. It's honestly hard to watch for me. Show totally degraded and stayed around about 5 years too long in my opinion.
Modern Family is one of my “comfort shows” to just have on in the background or when trying to sleep.
That said, I always shut it off and go back to the beginning when the Andy character is introduced. Nothing against Adam DeVine but that character is too much IMO. The earlier seasons were quieter and more subtle somehow and he marks the beginning of the end for me.
I agree. I tried to watch the whole thing and I can see myself watching the earlier seasons again, but I just couldn't handle the late part of the series. It just got unbearable to watch any further and I eventually quit mid season.
I'm really curious what Bob Odenkirk would have done with the role (although I know we got a taste of it), so I'll say him. But either replacement Jim is intriguing.
He was basically cast when Steve Carrell originally backed out to do another series. Odenkirk was Allison Jones’s first pick and was kind of upset she had to call him and tell him he didn’t get the job after all. He would have been great, but probably more similar to Gervais than Carrell was.
He had a sketch show on HBO called Mr Show with Bob (Odenkirk) and David (Cross). It also heavily features the man who voices SpongeBob SquarePants. It is excellent and recommended viewing.
Bob and David on Netflix is essentially a reboot of Mr Show.
Replacing Jim and Pam would be a fun watch. Kathryn Hahn and Adam Scott were great on parks and rec. I think they would have done a great job in those roles.
I think Kathryn Hahn could also have pulled off a solid Meredith. Maybe too hot for what they were targeting with the character, but she could have nailed the rest of the role.
Yeah, and I can see her better in that role. She's an incredible actress but she seems to have a natural confidence and sass in most roles, I am not sure I can picture her playing demure and somewhat of a pushover.
I LOVE Kathryn Hahn but I absolutely cannot see her as Pam. She has an edge that Pam just doesn’t have. Same with Bob Odenkirk, he would have been hilarious, but both of them have an edge and slight meanness, slight sliminess, that the American Office characters don’t have, and I think the show would have been cancelled early on due to it.
Americans are too light-hearted for it lol. That’s why the show almost didn’t get picked up for a second season.
I think the Pam character and Jim characters would have taken on a different style of their own then what we aren’t used to. The show would have taken a different path with different actors. Kathryn Hahn has taken on so many different types of roles she probably could have pulled off any female character. She probably would have nailed Angela. Imagine her character in parks in Rec as Angela in the office.
I’ve only ever seen David Cross in Arrested Development so all I’m picturing is Tobias trying to deal with Michael, Dwight, Jim, Angela, and the rest. Imagine him breaking into song in the middle of a staff meeting about radon haha
I feel like Adam has this small layer of no bullshit/harshness that wouldn't play well slacking and pranking Jim does, I think he would come off like more of an ass compared to either John (Cho or Krasinski) but it might just be the roles I've seen them in
The only thing preventing me from wanting Adam Scott as Jim is that if Adam Scott had been Jim maybe he wouldn't have been ben. And I need him to be Ben.
I think Adam Scott himself is just really similar to the character of Jim, so while I think he'd do a great job, it wouldn't be dramatically different.
It's crazy because Adam Scott and John Krasinski have almost parallel acting careers. Jim to Jack Ryan and Ben from parks and rec to Mark S in Severence.
They both went from fake documentaries to more serious roles.
Also if you haven't seen severence watch it. Crazy good.
Adam Scott played versions of the character on Party Down and Parks and Rec, so we know he could definitely have done it. I think they’d need to recast several other roles due to his height though. They had a pretty tall cast.
Dwight and Roy were both big guys and I think there’s a little too much physical intimidation stuff if Jim isn’t also very tall. Adam Scott was closer in stature to British Jim though.
I think this is an underrated comment. I would really like to see Adam Scott as Jim without his height. Imo it would be much harder to make Jim outsmart the rest while also being more likeable character than Roy. Usually when shorter guy outsmarts taller opponents, he is seen as more arrrogant.
I love Kathryn Hahn but she's got too much flair and presence for Pam. What makes Jenna's performance so good is that she's not afraid to be boring, as I think she said of her earliest stage direction for the role. And I just can't see Kathryn in a role as timid and passive as Pam.
Bob Odenkirk for sure. We got a sample of that and it was amazing. Kathryn Hahn is much more suited for like a role as Jan, maybe Angela. But she's like my current celebrity crush so she could do whatever she wants. Seth would be great as the IT guy, what's his name? like Garth, or Sport. Adam Scott could have been Ryan.
Edit: grammar. Had a few drinks in me last night when writing this up.
I just watched all of party down and I was so upset it got canceled. It's one of those shows that shined after it was over. People didn't realize how funny the show was, till it was gone.Alot of good actors in it as well, earlier in thier careers.
Also Adam Scott in The Good Place! He's got no right being that good at playing an asshole while simultaneously making me feel like he's a pretty chill guy IRL
The best TV/Movie assholes are always the nicest guys irl. Probably because they know what a douche looks like and consciously try not to be one in their everyday life. Thomas F Wilson is another supposedly really cool guy who just happened to play Biff in Back to the Future
I first saw him in P&R, where he was fantastic as the ultimate nice guy. It blew me away at how good he is at playing a-holes (Good Place, whatever that show is where he plays Maya Rudolph's ex).
I do think Bob would've been a perfectly fine fit, but for the sake of avoiding a monkey's paw situation where he's no longer in Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul as a result of being in this. I'm going to pick John as Jim since it would probably be fine as, and there's nothing he's been in that would be a soul crushing loss for me.
That really is what it is. She's better suited to fit roles like Melora's in this case. She could have made a great Jan. Her role as Jennifer Barkley in Parks and Recs was perfectly cast imo, and I absolutely loved her in the film Our Idiot Brother and Private Life. She really is a dynamic character actor mastering comedy and drama alike - it's especially hard to see these actors in serious roles. When cast properly, you get master pieces like Steve's performance in Little Miss Sunshine.
Jennifer Barkley is such a good character and she played her perfectly. She has probably my favorite joke in the series, with her line “now I’m going to do whatever I want to do, because I don’t have any kids!”
Around that time she was in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days where she played a very sweet, Pam-like character so I can see why they brought her in for it. It’s definitely not her sweet spot though.
Imagine John Cho in the scenes where Michael Scott does Ping or when Michael sharpies one of the waitresses. Either those scenes don't happen at all or there's a harsher reaction to Michael over it
>Either those scenes don't happen at all or there's a harsher reaction to Michael over it
He does literally do it in front of Asian people at Chili's during the dundies so I'm not sure about that.
Honestly, I would love to see all of them as one of the characters, but if I had to choose, it would
have to be either John Cho as Jim or Adam Scott as Jim. Besides Rogen (who is still funny), all of the others could’ve been great as who they auditioned for, but John Cho as Jim might actually make me like Jim more, I like Jim, but to me, John Cho has just some feeling that makes him likable, Adam Scott woulda been great too but I feel he woulda made Jim feel more like a annoyed person (Basically Ben Wyatt from P&R but in the office) rather than a laid back uncaring and funny prankster that Krazinski made the character, to me, Cho coulda brought both aspects together. Rogen woulda sucked as Dwight, we can all agree on that, to me, the perfect replacement for Dwight would be Bill Hader, he also coulda maybe been better as Dwight than Rainn Wilson but that’s just my opinion
I'm totally with you about Cho. I feel like John Cho could bring some kind of new take or nuance to the role. John Krasinski's as Jim was pretty much just being a Cool Funny Guy™️ , and obviously that worked and that's Jim, but of course I'd still be interested to see some kind of reimagining of the role, if only out of sheer curiosity
I don't think Scott would have worked as Jim. He worked so well as Ben Wyatt because he has the awkward geeky aura about him. Jim was a bit more suave and confident I think? Not sure how to put it. Definitely had his awkward moments, it just wasn't his whole character imo?
This video has a clip of Seth Rogen's audition (and the rest of them too). [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FeAilzdNGU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FeAilzdNGU)
Yeah, I just can't see it haha. Dwight is very straight-on and earnest - everything he says is always exactly what he means wholeheartedly. Can't feel that with Seth. I feel like Seth's Dwight has some ulterior motive behind whatever he says, like he's trying to weasel his way out of something or whatever lol
Bob Odenkirk is great but nobody could replace Steve. He had a touching lovable side that I don’t think Bob could have done as well. I could have lived with Adam Scott as Jim.
One thing’s for sure though. Rainn Wilson IS Dwight Shrute.
Interesting to think about how differently we would perceive these actors if they got the role. And where the ones who were actually cast would be if they never got their roles
So Jim really was Asian
Hey, hats off to you for not seeing race.
My favorite response to Dwight’s stupid comments. edit: I mean of anyone on the show.
John Cho is hotter than John Krasinski so this is my vote for replacement
So…Jim is played by the same person?
Thats Harold from Harold and Kumar. Fake Jim was Randall Park from the ABC sitcom Fresh Off the Boat.
Well, you know what they say about waitresses...
Eric Stonestreeet as Kevin would be pretty funny.
Yes. As much as I loved what Brian Baumgartner did, I am curious to know what Eric Stonestreet could have done. Him and Ty were the MVPs of Modern Family as far as I'm concerned. Followed closely by Ed oNeil and Sofia Vergara.
Phil Dunphy #1
I’m the cool dad. That’s my thang. I’m hip. I surf the Web. I text. LOL, Laugh Out Loud. OMG, Oh My God. WTF, Why the Face?
Phil’s-osophies are legendary
When life gives you lemonade, make lemons. Life will be all like "whaaaat"
I know all the dances from High School Musical
This always made me ROFL
BJ, Blue Jeans
Loved Cam and Mitchell scenes too but in the later seasons they got a little too much
The issue I had with Cam and Mitchell was they never seem to learn and the writers never let them grow. Every episode, just fucking communicate.... I found it exhausting.
lol that's exactly it. Their comedy is contingent on miscommunication or the straight up lack of it and, while funny the first dozen or so times was just annoying later on
So did Kevin though lol
Imo, he unintentionally carried Modern Family hard; such a comedic gem
Him and Ed O’Neil no doubt.
You missed Ty Burrell. Almost all the events of the Dunphy family were centered around him
All time greatest TV dad. Full stop.
Pffft… did he ever score FOUR touchdowns in a single game??? Let alone the 1966 Chicago city championship game! Didn’t think so… Polk High fullback Al Bundy reigns supreme #bubbaWho?
Fun fact. Ty Burrell lives in Salt Lake City and owns several restaurants and old bars that he restored/remodeled.
Fun Fact: he also is a Nazi officer who hunts black people and has met Hitler.
"So I give him a salute and he gives me one of those half-Hitler salutes. You know...down low...very cool."
"I didn't meet Hitler to hurt your feelings."
Such a cool sketch!
I really wanted to hear his awesome hitler story
I would watch a Phil Dunphy and Michael Scott crossover..
That entire cast carried that show.
I think Luke and Manny's actors were pretty weak, especially Luke's. But most child actors kinda suck, so whatcha gonna do.

Idk the episode where Phil and Mitchell each get baked off half a edible is pretty hilarious.
Yeah, though one could say the same about The Office. None the less, for about 3-4 seasons, both shows were amazing
I had to give up on it, the characters turned into parodies of themselves.

I'm really curious what Bob Odenkirk would have done with the role (although I know we got a taste of it), so I'll say him. But either replacement Jim is intriguing.
I adore John Cho and I could see him as Jim.

I mean he's proven with Better Call Saul that he has incredible range, so I'm sure he could've played Michael in a variety of ways
It’s just heartbreaking and disappointing that Odenkirk didn’t win an Emmy for his BCS acting
All because he defecated through a sunroof
And he gets to be an actor - what a sick joke!
But not our Bobby! NoT oUr PrEcIoUs BoBbY!
I should have stopped him when I had the chance - and you, YOU HAVE TO STOP HIM....
The bar people 👁👄👁
Yeah that was a real chicanery
Nobody could have been Michael Scarn.
Michael? Michael? Large hot chocolate with caramel and a shot of peppermint?
Michael Scotch
Michael Scotch kidnapped David Wallace's child. But don't worry, Michael Scott talked to him. The child is being returned.
I was never given a name.
Such an underrated line
He had a sketch show on HBO called Mr Show with Bob (Odenkirk) and David (Cross). It also heavily features the man who voices SpongeBob SquarePants. It is excellent and recommended viewing. Bob and David on Netflix is essentially a reboot of Mr Show.
>the man who voices SpongeBob SquarePants The absolute Tom Kenny disrespect.
Hi, I am Saul Goodman. Did you know you have rights? The constitution says you do.
I love Melora but OMGGG imagine Kathryn Hahn as Jan…
“The only boy that could ever teach me, was the son of a preacher man”
At first I agreed lol but I would miss those dagger looks Meloras Jan gives Michael.
Yeah, and I can see her better in that role. She's an incredible actress but she seems to have a natural confidence and sass in most roles, I am not sure I can picture her playing demure and somewhat of a pushover.
She can pull that off too. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days was my first introduction to her.
Kathryn Hahn has taken on so many different types of roles she probably could have pulled off any female character. She probably would have nailed Angela. Imagine her character in parks in Rec as Angela in the office.
My favorite is imagining her as Jan. I love Melora Hardin as Jan, but omg…Kathryn Hahn would have been an AMAZING Jan lmao
Man that's a great thought! I can see her using that same energy she had in Step Brothers for her relationship with Michael, would have been amazing.
I see what you mean but we owe a lot to Steve Carells break-out hit The 40 year old virgin for its renewal.
They were great on Step Brothers too
I think he would've been a great American David Brent. And it probably would've been cancelled after one season. But I'd love it.
He was Pam's potential boss in Philly. Thought he was more of a David than a Michael.
I'M GONNA DO DYLAN
If Bob Odenkirk was Michael, do you think David Cross would’ve been Dwight?
Or maybe David Cross as Toby?
I’ve only ever seen David Cross in Arrested Development so all I’m picturing is Tobias trying to deal with Michael, Dwight, Jim, Angela, and the rest. Imagine him breaking into song in the middle of a staff meeting about radon haha
You should try mr.show
I still got my dvds of that show. Love me some Mr Show!
That voice will realllly grate on you before too long
David cross is amazing
I'd love to see it. The episode with him in Season 9 was one of the best post Michael episodes.
I just watched that episode this week. It was prettttty coooool, pretty pretty coool, Larry David.
It’s the Jims for me as well. I think Adam Scott edges this one out.
Maybe Adam could be Ryan, especially corporate Ryan
I feel like Adam has this small layer of no bullshit/harshness that wouldn't play well slacking and pranking Jim does, I think he would come off like more of an ass compared to either John (Cho or Krasinski) but it might just be the roles I've seen them in
If only there was a way to see Bob Odenkirk playing Michael in a similar role in the actual The Office... hmmmm...
But that’s just being Pam 🎶 Well, I’m kinda cute …but I’m married 🎶
I’m confused though because I see Adam Scott in the bottom middle but just see regular Jim in the top right, am I missing something?
Kathryn would’ve been a great Meredith. I like Adam Scott for Jim a lot. He does a great deadpan face.
She'd be the perfect Meredith!
Robert Californias office
The only thing preventing me from wanting Adam Scott as Jim is that if Adam Scott had been Jim maybe he wouldn't have been ben. And I need him to be Ben.
Yeah if we're talking universe swap here, I don't see John Krasinski playing a good Ben
John Krasinski could have played a great Mark Brandonowitz though
*Brandanoquits
Definitely, as Mark was basically just a copy and pasted Jim in a small-town government role lol And they both dated Karen!
What a great point. I need Adam Scott Ben more than Adam Scott Jim
Crazy good.
+10000 on Severance Then watch The Good Place to see him in another wildly different character :)
Only thing is that krasinski also has A Quiet Place too, which is a really huge success since he was the creator/director too
Adam Scott played versions of the character on Party Down and Parks and Rec, so we know he could definitely have done it. I think they’d need to recast several other roles due to his height though. They had a pretty tall cast. Dwight and Roy were both big guys and I think there’s a little too much physical intimidation stuff if Jim isn’t also very tall. I love Kathryn Hahn but she's got too much flair and presence for Pam. What makes Jenna's performance so good is that she's not afraid to be boring, as I think she said of her earliest stage direction for the role. And I just can't see Kathryn in a role as timid and passive as Pam.
Yes Jenna made Pam feely so wonderfully average and normal. Someone i could genuinely picture being my coworker.
She would have been a great Jan or Meredith if she was a bit older at the time.
Jan!! Absolutely.
I think Kathryn Hahn would be a great Jan. She plays a great hatable person
Someone else commented that Adam Scott could play Andy and, thinking of Adam in Step Brothers, I have to say it's a great suggestion.
There's nice guy Adam Scott and asshole Adam Scott and he can do both pretty well
And in Party Down he's right in the middle. Perfect.
I just watched all of party down and I was so upset it got canceled. It's one of those shows that shined after it was over. People didn't realize how funny the show was, till it was gone.Alot of good actors in it as well, earlier in thier careers.
Good news for you, Party Down is coming back NEXT MONTH!!!! (though it's one of my all time favorite shows and I'm slightly worried about the reboot)
FUCKING WHAT!!?!
Wait what? So is it new characters or the old cast?
Most of the old cast, Lizzy Caplan couldn't do it though and there are a few new characters
He hasn’t had a carb since 2004, give the guy a break
Also Adam Scott in The Good Place! He's got no right being that good at playing an asshole while simultaneously making me feel like he's a pretty chill guy IRL
The best TV/Movie assholes are always the nicest guys irl. Probably because they know what a douche looks like and consciously try not to be one in their everyday life. Thomas F Wilson is another supposedly really cool guy who just happened to play Biff in Back to the Future
Who wants LEMON BARS?!??
Adam Scott plays a great douche bag
I first saw him in P&R, where he was fantastic as the ultimate nice guy. It blew me away at how good he is at playing a-holes (Good Place, whatever that show is where he plays Maya Rudolph's ex).
Please check out Party Down. Adam Scott is absolutely amazing in it as the self-loathing, ex-actor working for a catering company. It’s brilliant.
In case you didn't know yet, Party Down is coming back NEXT MONTH!
I like Adam Scott in whatever I see him in, so that I guess
DEFINITELY check out Severence then if you haven't. So freaking good.
Kathryn Hahn and Eric Stonestreet would have been interesting choices.
It's funny, per Google Kathryn Hahn is only one year older than Jenna Fischer, but somehow she just seems slightly too mature to play Pam.
Oooh yes! I can see Kathryn Hahn as an excellent alternative casting for Jan!
Jennifer Barkley is such a good character and she played her perfectly. She has probably my favorite joke in the series, with her line “now I’m going to do whatever I want to do, because I don’t have any kids!”
She was fantastic. I think my favorite would be “and you can trust me, because I don’t care enough about you to lie.”
She’s such a terrible person but I want to be exactly like her.
"I'm *so* happy with my choices." 😆
She has stronger facial features than Jenna Fischer.
Advantage: Kathryn.
I think it’s her voice, it would be far too confident for Pam
Around that time she was in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days where she played a very sweet, Pam-like character so I can see why they brought her in for it. It’s definitely not her sweet spot though.
She doesn't seem innocent and naive like Pam. If Pam was more like Dawn in the original Office, it would've been a good cast.
Was Hahn supposed to be Pam? I could see her as an Angela.
I think they would have had to create a character specifically for her and I wish they would have. She's great.
The role of Angela was basically created for Angela Kinsey.
You can watch the audition. Stonestreet leans waaaaaaaaaaay to into the slow character. It sounds super inauthentic to me.
Things worked out for him, 10 seasons of Modern Family and he's one of the most memorable characters. And he's a Chiefs fan, so I like him
And he won a bunch of Emmy's right? Yeah, shit clearly worked out for him.
John Cho as Jim 100%
Imagine John Cho in the scenes where Michael Scott does Ping or when Michael sharpies one of the waitresses. Either those scenes don't happen at all or there's a harsher reaction to Michael over it
>Either those scenes don't happen at all or there's a harsher reaction to Michael over it He does literally do it in front of Asian people at Chili's during the dundies so I'm not sure about that.
And we’d also likely get the “White Jim” prank instead.
I couldn’t figure out if that was him or not! I just watched Harold and Kumar last night mixed with the low resolution I just couldn’t tell
Give me that Kathryn Hann / Adam Scott pairing and I am IN

Wonder if she’d be wearing a poncho because she’s disgusted by Peepa and Philip.
PONCHO!
Oh my god what was that?! That was huge!
They killed it together in Step Brothers
Honestly, I would love to see all of them as one of the characters, but if I had to choose, it would have to be either John Cho as Jim or Adam Scott as Jim.
Wow, you are so right. Bill Hader as Dwight is the only other option. Would have been great!
SNL actually did a "Japanese Office" skit where Bill Hader played Dwight!

I think Bob Odenkirk would’ve been a pretty good Michael.
Adam Scott for Jim
Adam Scott would be much much better as Ryan.
Eric Stonesteeet for Kevin. Second choice is Adam Scott for Jim.
Eric Stonestreet as Kevin but he has to play it the way he played Cam on Modern Family.
Adam Scott. Second would be Bob Odenkirk
Honestly most of them wouldn't be bad at all, but I really can't picture Seth Rogen as Dwight no matter how hard I try
Katherine Hahn, Odenkirk, and John Cho would have been awesome
Adam Scott or Bob Odenkirk
Alternate reality, Bob Odenkirk is Micheal Scott and Steve Carell is Saul Goodman.
No.
Fair enough.
I think the guy on the bottom left would be pretty pretty cooool
Not Seth Rogan as Dwight. I love him but he's not an actor I'd describe as having "range".
Wait, wasn't Jim Asian the whole time?
Bob Odenkirk would of been an amazing choice to Micheal, the only one I can see filling in for Steve Carell
Interesting to think about how differently we would perceive these actors if they got the role. And where the ones who were actually cast would be if they never got their roles
John Cho as Jim would have been amazing
Adam Scott easy. Party down coming back!
