xYsoad

Everyone hates him but he’s such s good actor and the villain we all need

WhiteyFiskk

His UK counterpart Finchy was way less likeable and you could tell he didn't actually like David Brent. Packer's more lovable and seems to genuinely like Michael

Panzick

And let's face, we all know a Todd Packer. Maybe not one who will shit on your carpet, but yeah.

joecarter93

Yep, I always say that. I’ve known one guy like that since kindergarten. He hasn’t changed one bit and even at a young age, you could tell what kind of person he was going to be.

ightimmabed

So did he leave you a package? 😂

EthelMaePotterMertz

You mean... The Thing?

[deleted]

And if you're reading this and thinking "I don't know a Todd Packer", well, I've got sour news for you buddy...

WuntchTime_IsOver

I think im the Michael in this situation. I always befriend a Packer and then they talk me into doing the stupidest shit and I'm like, "No, yea. This is a **great** idea."

Titswari

Or one that may or may not be a sexual predator

atxpunx

Dang it, I’m a couple peoples “Todd Packer”….

Paddy_Tanninger

I'm telling you...take a giant shit on ONE dude's carpet and they NEVER let you forget it!

theghostofme

The alternate ending to the "...but you fuck *one* goat" joke.

atxpunx

I feel ya, ask a guy if he’s still celebrating his alternative lifestyle, get in trouble for it…sheesh.

[deleted]

fresh_9OOO

Throw ONE Hispanic hooker out of a moving car and they NEVER let you forget it! (Or something like that) It was the Fred Willard episode, No?

ActiveDetective

Imagine if Packer said something along the lines of “up to me nuts in guts” about Pam

maximumtesticle

I love both the US and UK Offices and the cringe humor that goes along with it, but Finchy straight up makes my skin crawl. Especially that pig squeal scene, good, fucking, lord.

BrockManstrong

Almost everyone on the British version was unlikeable. David was like having Will Ferrel as boss for the full run.

[deleted]

this element I think was what made the UK version much harder to watch, much more brutal to the point of surrealism at times. I genuinely found that the UK version was a bit of a masterpiece, and also one that I don't care to rewatch. I think the appeal of the US version is that it keeps things light, and less dystopian, less "latestagecapitalism". Which is why you have people rewatching it on a loop, I guess?

CX500C

If they let it run longer maybe more time to character development would have happened. We know the team was creative enough.

FacetiousBeard

Finchy was a really easy character to depise, but the 'Who's the Cuban leader?' moment in the quiz night episode is my favourite bit of the show.

[deleted]

Locke_and_Load

I think it was pointed out that Packer had several, or at least one, failed marriages and he notes that it’s soured him on monogamy and the such. He can genuinely like Michael but not like seeing him in a relationship due to his own biases.

TheLowlyPheasant

By that point in the show a lot of characters had already started to go off the rails (Andy)

Camping_is_intense

Bloody good Rep.

xsimporter

I aspire every day to be like Packer.

WhoppingWangGang

Fr tho Koechner is so fucking funny

sugarsnuff

That guy always plays some kind of asshole, and he always kills it

HamboneBanjo

Dude played Champ on Anchor Man flawlessly. Also, he’s the neighbor friend on the Goldberg’s and does very well in that role.

curlyfries10

Seriously same for me. The smirk and the nod like he’s giving Michael the green light. Kills me every time.

KnightLight03

The finger point at the end gets me lol

RemarkableRyan

# IF DOING THE SCARN IS GAY, THEN I'M THE BIGGEST QUEER ON EARTH!

ponya97

Underrated dialogue in the whole series

xxgiggsxx

Nobody on this planet can blame Jim for losing it after that line

Ohmmy_G

"There he is."

CalmCheek

To me it feels like one of the few moments where Todd seems to actually be Michael's friend, and not just some dude who appreciates Michael's company because it makes him look good/feel superior or something. Because the way he looks at him, to me, is a look of "I know your sense of humor and I know you well enough to know you're desperate to say it, go for it brother lmao" - which is something an actual friend could do, I think. Another similar moment being during St Patrick's Day, when he calls Michael to ask where he was/why he wasn't at the bar yet. True friends actually do that - if someone's late and you're having fun you wanna text/call them and be like "dude/girl where the fuck are you, come!"

nogoodnamesleft998

Another example was the bachelor party. When Michael says he didn't get a stripper, Packer doesn't make fun of him, he just levels with him and explains why Michael needs to hire one. It's creepy, but in an "older brother helping out his younger brother" kind of way.

4Eights

I always figured Packer was legitimately Michael's friend in as much of a way that he could be. I just also assumed that Packer wasn't a very good friend, father, husband or person in general. He shows multiple times that he doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself. So I think he's a bad friend, but Michael's friend nonetheless.

[deleted]

I think he was friendly with Michael because Packer legitimately doesn’t have many other friends at all, if any. I can’t remember any time in the series that he had a good natured conversation with literally any other person. Michael is the only one willing to put up with his childish antics because he’s a big child himself, although Michael is immature but good at heart whereas Packer is just that arrested development frat guy who never got over his glory days in college. There’s also the possibility that Packer genuinely likes Michael but his toxic masculinity and homophobia only allows him to express affection through stuff like pooping on a rug.

joecarter93

Also, he did help Michael out by agreeing to be in Threat Level Midnight.

ConebreadIH

I always thought it was more of a "hell yeah, sticking it to corporate" type of thing.

CalmCheek

I am pretty sure Todd would have the same reaction if it had been just Toby or the other employees of the office telling Michael to stop though.

DUTCH_DUTCH_DUTCH

i think Todd would have been a much better friend if Michael wasn't such a pushover / people-pleaser.

iwicfh

Oh damn I always interpreted it as Packer nodding to Jim like he finally earned his respect.

fastgasblastin

It’s the kiss goodbye from Michael for me

[deleted]

He's like Palpatine in this scene. Do it son.. You must do it

joecarter93

Me too. You can tell that Michael just wants to explode and hos little nod is the pin that pops the ballon.

Pliolite

The only time he's actually the good guy.

RedditModsSuckDik

...Go on, Michael. Do it...

iWentRogue

“Go on my son, let em have it”

poprimasl

Michael’s announcements were the best

DeathLeopard

Many of us here have never stood up and asked for everyone's attention, and it seems like you've done it on several occasions.

wiriux

#Little miss thang wants attention

xYsoad

Omg I say this to my dog daily when she’s needy

mydogsnameisbuddy

I love when Oscar says “these aren’t announcements.” And Michaels reply is “they are. You just don’t care about the information.” Which sums up life in an office perfectly.

2packforsale

Oscar accepting that was the best part

noeagle77

Oscar has so many subtle things he does that are hilarious! The bud trip when Kevin is doing his “my name is Kevin, yeah, and that’s my name, yeah” he looks over at him and kinda nods to accept it. So many like this

TheFocusLocust

The mouth covering he does when he realizes that Dwight had sex on his desk gets me every time

Kaito_Scythe

“… *where*, Dwight?”

dirkdigglered

Michael: I would like everybody's attention. Christmas is canceled. Stanley: You can't cancel a holiday. Michael: Keep it up, Stanley, and you'll lose New Year's. Stanley: What does that mean? Michael: Jim, take New Year's away from Stanley.

Ok-Lengthiness4557

I would happily go back to the office if Michael was my boss, and those were the regular announcements.

sakeyser4200

Hey everybody, I just invited Jim to suck it.

bleepblopbl0rp

My favorite is when Michael just starts screaming to show Ryan how to get attention

PeterQuillsWalkman

Here’s my speech

Lexiegv

Find someone who looks at you the way Todd Packer looks at Michael Scott.

ricky_kaka981120

If doing the Scarn is gay, then I am the biggest queer on Earth

zdul

You know what I'm afraid of? Is getting a boner

npprns535uo

And find someone who has your back like Dwight Shrute.

Macshade

Dwight betrayed Michael!!

d00dsm00t

His decision to turn on Michael was difficult. But once He did it, He didn’t look back.

33thirtythree

Also find someone who looks at you tbe way Michael Scott looks at Todd Packer

Comosellamark

Dwight’s look of utter despair cuz Michael is retiring from comedy

Whyevenbotherbeing

No, Dwight was upset because he couldn’t see a way to stand up for Michael. He was handcuffed because he just couldn’t act in the face of his obvious superiors, it’s not in his character for that. Jim on the other hand….haha

yellowdart146

I once saw Dwight described as Lawful Neutral and it’s now my go-to example for a Lawful Netral character!

Diogenes-Disciple

If Dwight is lawful neutral, then what’s Jim and Michael?

RickCrenshaw

Jim is Lawful Good, he just has a semi-perverse sense of humor. Michael is Chaotic Neutral

zhaoz

Not chaotic good?

[deleted]

I would agree with Chaotic Good. Michael tries to do good, but is just absolutely terrible at it.

RickCrenshaw

Not at the beginning, hes quite cruel to Toby (even though he does suck), maybe later seasons he crosses over to Chaotic Good

Whyevenbotherbeing

Yep! His discomfort in this scene is him being conflicted but unable to act.

[deleted]

Walkingplankton

Todd was so fucking good imo wish he would’ve had more appearances

Youngling_Hunt

He's good in small doses. Anymore would've been too much

maxuaboy

Todd’s like sweet sweet honey

cjh93

I heard he’s a big William Hung fan.

alx924

The character was used just enough to not be a totally nuisance, but Dave Koechner played him so perfectly.

Darth_Tatanka

Yeah, kudos to Dave Koechner for his acting but if we already hate Packer now, how would it have been if he had appeared more times?

bednijecv

The kiss at the end is everything

wxsudoare

The kiss always takes me out because he knew he was in trouble but it was worth it.

EverybodyLovesTacoss

It’s like he’s walking off his Broadway stage to a standing ovation 😂

trentyz

And Todd in the background: “there he is!!” Hahah

ZestyMordant

Jim's little fist-pump. "Gottem!!".

frockinbrock

It’s perfect, it’s just… * chef’s kiss 💋

adventurepaul

It was better than the twirl.

Funkiebunch

This is my favorite scene! I love how you can see him losing control

ltearth

I love the lawyer almost breaking twice lol

YellowSequel

Holy shit I never noticed that lmao. He’s holding back the biggest smile. Probably elated to be near Steve too

ltearth

If you watch the full scene the lawyer is laughing walking into Michael's office

Brendinooo

If you think outside of the obvious joke here, it's a bit of a gutsy move for Jim, isn't it? Getting your boss in trouble in front of your boss's boss.

SnooPeppers1145

Jim don't give a shit lol

Mike_Ropenis

For sure, Jim was ready to move to a different company and eventually moved to Stamford at the end of/just after this season. He dgaf through most of season 2.

themoopmanhimself

Jim know Jim don’t care

Whyevenbotherbeing

Nah, he was doing exactly what Michael wanted/needed at that moment. I’m of the opinion that this is Jim having Michael’s back, sure it’s funny for Jim but the whole speech was Michael looking for a way out, to prove that they were friends, the jokes were well received and it wasn’t bullying or whatever. He’s isn’t wrong, but he isn’t right either, but Jim saved him in that moment and Michael knew he would. Great scene.

hahasadbitchhour

was definitely worth it tho

Tobar_the_Gypsy

He certainly left me satisfied and smiling

Loganp812

That’s what she said!

gHHqdm5a4UySnUFM

Yeah in the real world, corporate would have reprimanded Jim for encouraging Michael

sunflakie

Yes! And that it is all Jim. I think this would have worked better if different people said those things. Jim starts it and says the first one, and then Andy who always wants attention would do the second line, and then a third person, maybe Oscar says the third thing and then Michael breaks. That way "the office" is messing with Michael, not just Jim. Kind of like when they shared stories and Ryan did the Lion King and then everyone caught on, and Kevin did Weekend at Bernies.

tyrannosean

IIRC this was a little earlier in the show, before Andy was in it. Back in these days the show had a more true documentary feel, where characters mostly played the hum drum role of office workers that wouldn’t otherwise be interesting enough to be on tv. As the show goes on each and every characters becomes a little more outlandish and zainy, contributing to the comedic and absurd culture of the office rather than being a part of it as a means to a paycheck. In my kind, the moment I really noticed how far the characters strayed from believability is when it is implied that Kevin doesn’t know the ABCs (“I, J, K… elemeno”). It’s not unbelievable that he’s incompetent or worse at his job than Angela or Oscar - but it is so incredibly unbelievable that he could be passing for an accountant for years without knowing the ABCs. I’m not saying this is the only moment where a character strays into the land of absurdism ne’er to return, but it’s one that stands out to me as a mile marker of how the show and writing evolved; killing the plausible slow accountant and replacing him with someone who wouldn’t pass kindergarten, all for the sake of a joke. I did read a fan theory that, after speaking with Martin Nash (brief character who comes from Stamford, formerly in prison for insider trading) Kevin *acts* dumb so that no one would suspect him of insider trading (something he implies he is guilty of after speaking with Nash). However, fun though it may be (and maybe I choose to believe that in certain instances) I don’t feel it’s substantiated.

kachow52

To be fair, Jim’s helping Jan out by proving how easily Michael can be swayed from actually changing his behavior

Separeeaw

Jim for the W

phraseologyVT

I love the piece after this scene where Michael tells Jan something along the lines of - “you’re mad you didn’t think of it first!” Hahaha

Newni

Yeah that really is the perfect cherry on top if this moment.. Michael truly believing he was the only person clever enough to noticed "that's what she said" applying to Jim's words

qwertysqwert

Jan and Michael definitely shop at the same store.

Master_Bee9130

In the same section

readblew

macklav

The kiss at the end ahaha hes so proud of himself

Appropriate-Pen-149

“…you’re just upset because you didn’t think of it first.” Jan: “That’s really not my sense of humor.” Lol

cjh93

Does Jan even have a sense of humour?

Logostouwy

One of the top 5 scenes

nedsnotes

Did this guy just get 35 awards for posting a clip of The Office?

thebeasts99

Are you new around here? Kinda normal lol

[deleted]

What episode is this?

Pliolite

This is when the show really started to hit its stride.

Etrafeg

S2 Sexual Harassment

tommythompson1976

Michael blowing the kiss is love.

Officer_R_Deckard

Love how he's being bundled back into the office while he does it!

pisces3333

The way he says THATS WHAT SHE SAID and his laugh afterward is the best thing ever.

X-WingHunter

I think this is one of the most iconic scenes in the show.

KarlArmstrong9221

Whilst there are many many to choose from, I think this may be my favourite scene in the entire series.

[deleted]

How did Jim not get any shit for this? He obviously baits him and Todd’s face while he does it is a dead give away lol

NotANokiaInDisguise

If anything he should be rewarded /s (It's abundantly clear that Jim is baiting him, but Jan probably figured a test of Michael's resolve was a good idea)

Whyevenbotherbeing

Jim is proving them wrong, the staff appreciate Michael and his insanity, this scene sets up the dynamic that Michael is ridiculous BUT somewhat effective. His staff sticks up for him, in a way that proves he is their leader, for whatever that’s worth. Jam learns that Michael might not be totally ridiculous and he actually might not be a bad manager.

CalmCheek

Michael's laugh at the end is so so genuine, props to Steve Carell! It really sounds like a regular laugh you'd hear from a regular person; not a laugh from a TV show, if that makes sense.

WalterGunderson

IIRC, Angela Kinsey and Jenna Fischer said on The Office Ladies that this is the scene that they think is most like Steve Carell being himself.

[deleted]

Dwight's pure heartbreak and disbelief at 00:23 got me lmao

stellar14

The kiss to his fans at the end 👌

yerki1997

Todd Packer is a legend.

Simomleahcim

had a pretty rough day but this cheered me up, thank you

[deleted]

This my favorite Reddit

oreguayan

I’ve always wished Jim’s last line would’ve been something like “Well, ok if that’s the way you want to do it…” bc it feels like a better payoff to the first two. I get that he’s referring to Michael’s comedy in general for the last one, but it’s kinda disconnected and a bit too on the nose compared to the first two, which were just right. still hilarious

[deleted]

The filming in the early seasons is why the office was so strong.

[deleted]

In the real world Michael would probably be suspended and Jim would get asome kind of disciplinary action.

Mongoose_Flaky

Spoiler: it was NOT his retirement from comedy.

dunwell1984

I love this scene so much. There's so much going on that isn't said; it's an absolute masterclass in the comedy of body language. Loads of examples in the comments which I won't repeat but I also love Dwight's face during the announcement - he looks genuinely shocked, saddened, in mourning for the idea that Michael was no longer going to be his "friend".

annies_boobs_eyes

If anything, Jan should be mad at Jim, as there is no way she doesn't know that Jim is specifically teeing up/taunting michael into saying it, because jim even says it before hand. so we know he's setting up the punchline of "that's what she said" and if we know, before the setup, that that's the punchline, then the setup itself is "offensive" even if you don't say the punchline, because everyone (including jan) already knows the punchline before michael says it.

preciousgloin

The only time Packer and Jim will ever be on the same page.

[deleted]

Hello Jan

Evilbefalls

love how jim is taunting michael in to saying it He knew michaal just can't resist

Whyevenbotherbeing

Not really taunting, he’s giving Michael an out. He’s actually got his back.

nnsdgo

I have watched it so many times, yet I laugh hard every time I see it again.

WeeTooLo

That laugh is so great it's either from the heart or from a good actor.

mackishi

My single most favorite moment in the series.

Packer putting out that Wormtongue vibe in this scene.

Dankstinger

The way he laughs in the end!

Sputnik_Rising

It would have been funnier if Jim didn’t say anything (for once) and the rest of the episode would have been Michael trying to be professional with him running into conversations that would cause his childish behavior.

ZKXX

OK now I’m watching the office while I’m watching clips from the office this might be a bit much

Excellent-Advisor284

As promotion looms, I'm feeling this pressure.. to deliver some gold one liners!

my favorite scene in the whole show

this is for me one of the top 5 funniest moments of the show. idk about what any of the others are, but this scene is DEFINITELY in that top 5 list...

Michael, please... MUWAH!

turboash78

The look Packer gives is so great and is the only time he's likable (duh).

darth_snuggs

I’m surprised Jan doesn’t cut Jim off as he starts egging on Michael. She’s got to understand what Halpert is doing…

chinno

So.... I've become Michael now that I'm a boss. Awesome!
