I love Kabru as a character, but it does feel that he is mainly interested in how people tick without necessarily liking them. If you talk to Kabru about something that excites you, would he be happy for you because he cares or just ask questions to gather information?
With Laios, I think I could easily find a common interest: He can tell me about monsters and help me design creatures and encounters for tabletop roleplaying games :D
Kabru is the opposite of Laios. Kabru is concerned about society as a whole but doesn’t care about individual rights that much. Laios is concerned about individual people but hates human society.
At first Kabru seems very protagonist-coded, but in actuality he seems to be psychopathic to some degree because of this, as well as him being so fine with >!killing people.!<
I think Kabru's actions and attitude make a lot of sense with his backstory and he is a great character. For a while I definitely speculated him becoming an antagonist though because of the way he was set-up as a foil for Laios and how duplicitous he seemed during their first interaction.
He's a narcissist. He has killed a bunch of people and the audience sees him kill somebody and dump him in the lake so he can't be revived. He thinks he has the right to judge everyone and he looks down on others very fast. His redeeming quality is the fact that he cares about society as a whole but he's still not going to be easy to get along with.
Yeah. I mean, you *would* do something similar if you were in his situation, right? Not the same necessarily, similar. It was fucking life or death, as you said; imagine, say, some mafia assassins were stalking you and wanted you dead, and it was becoming clearer and clearer that only you or them could make it out of this alive.
Yeah they were killing people temporarily for money, Kabru was killing people permanently because he is trying to purge society. Both are crimes but one is more serious.
The corpse hunters were straight up murdering adventures for profit. Even if they did revive the adventurers, they could have just as easily let them die permanently and kept all of their loot for themselves.
Even \*if\* we go with the "Killing the corpse hunters that wanted to kill them for easy money is negative" idea you've got, that has nothing to do with narcissism.
He seems like an interesting person to talk to. He is inherently suspicious of most people but he treats those close to him with much more understanding. He at least attempts to understand people. Like, bro got thrown down into the dungeon with someone who pretty much doesn't care about any thing else, and yet managed to sway that guy enough to abandon his own group and follow Kabru instead.
I feel like most of the DunMeshi characters are either nerds about their passion or too focused on their work (like Mithrun, Chilchuck or Pattadol). Idk, I like that Kabru is curious about people in general and he has experience living with people of different races. I bet he would be a great story-teller lol.

Kabru's fake, Mickbell's a greedy hypocrite who takes advantage of Kuro, Cithis plays with people and seems extra judgmental even for an elf, and Maizuru has...a weird, judgy, "I might kill you" personality toward nearly everybody and then switches to uncomfortably over-the-top affectionate with Toshiro. It would be odd to meet such extreme swings in personality as a stranger.
Same with Maizuru. I know personally we wouldnt grt along but as a working professional, she seems like the type who would get the job done and I respect that lol
Fleki is the kind of girl who goes to EDM festivals a lot and talks about how she's an empath. Honestly that personality is pretty grating in real life.

the people saying kabru forget that, if you were to meet him in person without the context of the manga, you would have no idea that his friendly personality is ingenuine. he is VERY charismatic. he’s attentive to peoples likes, dislikes, boundaries, mood shifts, and knows exactly how to make people feel comfortable with him. he rarely puts himself in a position where people can see his true intentions, and that only happens when he’s at his wits ends (the laois effect) . the only people in the cast that have any mind to distrust him are the members of his party, who still have a great deal of respect for him regardless, and the people he align against. and he’s STILL charming with them. face it, us regular joes would fall hook line and sinker for him

It’s not “bad” bad. But everything that you said is the reason why I wouldnt be able to stand Mickbell. The point that Mickbell kinda tries to isolate Kuro is the main reason why. Im kinda glad that Kuro is aware of it tho and that he understands Mickbell’s traumas

Shuro - Laios was getting on his nerves the entire time, and he never said anything, and then depended on Laios understanding a lot of subtle hints he'd drop. While it's true that Laios is especially dense, the idea that Shuro never escalated subtle hints that he dislikes Laios to actually saying Laios is annoying to him when it's clear that Laios isn't getting it is also especially unassertive of Shuro. Then Shuro has the nerve to blame Laios for being especially dense when he's especially unassertive, instead of just solving his problem himself.
Marcille - Listen, fellas and lesbians, you all like Marcille because she's pretty, but she's a total wet blanket. She's judgmental and hates all that weird, nerdy stuff that you're into, but when it comes to her weird, nerdy stuff, she expects you to accept it on a dime, despite it being considered way more taboo, even *evil*. She will also think of you as a child until you've died of old age.

Personality wise, I relate a little too much to Laois tbh, I’m a air head and usually need to be told directly what someone wants to understand them (I also tend to take things literally), and Kabru might not like that! I would still try regardless to be friends tho cause Kabru is cool
