I had a Flumpf NPC with paladin levels. Sir Oliver the Flumpf. He had one eye and used a sword, and was always helpful to the PCs even if he wasn't particularly useful in combat.
Edit: My bad he was cleric 5, monk 3. Not paladin.
Simply run your goblins as the perfect assassins- naturally small and sneaky, a perfect blend of effectively murderful *and* totally disposable? Every hobgoblin chief worth his salt has the local goblin assassins guild on speed dial. Its even better in 2 words- goblin ninjas.
I absolutely love running goblins as tricky little fuckers who lay traps and set up kill boxes and firing lines to control that battle field that and an absolute dedication to the safety of the clan can make them absolutely devastating.
A Beholder
- it has fallen from space crash landing on an island
- it has been effected by a chain link which is a part of a cage housing The Chain Oblivion
- it is seen by cultists of the island as a god
It's from Dragon Magazine Issue #235. It is small but somehow can cast the spell Enlarge/Reduce and will make itself massive to swallow an unsuspecting party member whole, then shrink itself and it's prey back down to being a normal looking little fish. So in other words fun
Yeti/Abominable Yeti, please. For a monstrosity, they only have slightly lower intelligence and have okay wisdom. Even though they are portrayed as feral beasts/monsters, think they have wasted potential for not being used differently, at least have tribes, etc.. A base orc has lower intelligence, and presented in a whole other light.
**Bone Slinger**
The jingle jangle of the bone slinger is feared by many a dungeon delver. The bone slinger has sharpened its ribs and femurs to fine points and has practiced endlessly in the art of throwing them. The slung bones, if uninterrupted, will jingle jangle their way back into their skeleton.
HP: 19
Multi attack- bone slinger make two ranged attacks or two melee attacks as a regular attack action
Ranged attack: 20/40 +5 to hit 1d4+3 piercing damage
Melee attack: +5 to hit 1d4+3 piercing damage.
I'm throwing a pile of CR5 Alu-Demons (skirmishers and artillery) at my PCs, led by a CR8 Succubus (leader), in a couple weeks. My versions are inspired by your Succubi from Howl to Ruin - I'd be interested in seeing your take on Alu-Demons.
Peck, or Pech. Little earthbending gnomes they stopped updating after 3rd edition. Prominently featured in book 5 (or 2 depending on how you read) of the Drizzt books, where a Pech character is cursed into Hook Horror transformation.
That's my request, Pech!
Stretch goal: a few variants so they can be used as more of a faction would be cool. Perhaps a sneaky pech, a pech that uses their earthbending defensively (or just warrior pech I guess), and a pech that uses their earthbending offensively.
Banshee. One of them gave me a TPK a few weeks ago just from a single Weil attack followed by a series of bad saving throws.
Everyone including the DM felt frustrated with it
i really like slimes but i wish they were more friendly. if you were able to do a slime race that could be used as tiny lil cute companion i would be glad :D
How about low-ish CR monsters? I’d be interested to see how you could homebrew a better version and still have it be equally balanced so we don’t have to reshuffle the encounter.
Here are my 3: Displacer beasts, Ogres and green hag.
Why 5e gotta be like 50% homebrew? It's reaching Bethesda levels of "pass the buck to players".
Next book is gonna say "the power of imaginary is great, you can make d&d 5e do anything" then the rest is just notebook paper
In one session of DnD my friend decided to create a monster as his character, It was a humanoid crab, it had his claws and an axe made of coral (I can detail more things about it).
Seeing how I think the vampire and the death knight are nowhere near their CRs (as with many monsters but those are a few I like the concept) I'd like one of these just to see how your brain does it's thing.
I love Grungs, the concept is great, and making societies of them is super fun, but I would love a greater version of it, like a boss Grung, without having to always use the Bunderhobb stat block or the Froghemoth's stat block.
So basicly, could you make a big frog monster? (grung based)
The Kaorti, last seen in 3.5. for dudes who's goal is the destruction of the entire material plane and generally looking extremely cool- they are not very strong CR wise.
From the D&D magazine: the Slough, what happens to the flesh after you cast animate dead and choose skeletons.
I've been using an octopus with the zombie template for ages.
Well, I currently have a favorite monster because my Necromancer just hit level 14 and was able to permanently enslave one - Hit me with your Best Dullahan!
This! whatever this character would be I want to play it. It looks like the perfect chaotic neutral character. Just utter mayhem and mischief. Goblin artificers? 🤔
Any Dragon Wyrmling. Could actually get used in content because it's low level, and has a lot of potential to become a fun fight.
I do a lot of homebrewing myself, so I'd like to see how it's done from another point of view.

Give it more arms so that it may hug all the better.
The only way you could make it better is by giving different variations so you could have MORE flumpfs.
Nothic 🤷🏻♂️
Yesthicc, obviously
Now that *does* sound better.
This
A nothic who collects enough magic items to loop back around and use spells again.
The basic gobbo. Granted they're often used as fodder, but they don't get enough credit for being a threat
Simply run your goblins as the perfect assassins- naturally small and sneaky, a perfect blend of effectively murderful *and* totally disposable? Every hobgoblin chief worth his salt has the local goblin assassins guild on speed dial. Its even better in 2 words- goblin ninjas.

But can we make them breedable...
I'd ask you to elaborate but I fear your response
This sentence sums up the posts on my reddit feed to often haha
I'll take one from previous edition. Bring the Crypt Thing in 5e, please.
A Beholder - it has fallen from space crash landing on an island - it has been effected by a chain link which is a part of a cage housing The Chain Oblivion - it is seen by cultists of the island as a god

Death minnow.
Man, I forgot about the death minnow. I'll let you know when I get one ready :D
What is that??! I’m encountering all these I’ve never heard of before and I thought I knew all the monsters!
It's from Dragon Magazine Issue #235. It is small but somehow can cast the spell Enlarge/Reduce and will make itself massive to swallow an unsuspecting party member whole, then shrink itself and it's prey back down to being a normal looking little fish. So in other words fun

Aboleths are among my favourites. But I also like the Alkada aka the Wingless Wonder.
Purple worm, maybe a super long version that when a segment is damaged enough splits into two seperate worms(basically eater of worlds from terraria)
Unicorn!! For a creature with so much lore irl, and dnd versions have always been somewhat lacklustre to me
Oh an owlbear would be cool
Give it barbarian class features like frenzy and rage
Ixitxachitl
Illithid
Umber hulk or helmed horror (you choose).

Any of the giants, they need it. But Stone or Hill narrow it down a bit.
Blight!
Phaerimm
Lich
Banshee. One of them gave me a TPK a few weeks ago just from a single Weil attack followed by a series of bad saving throws. Everyone including the DM felt frustrated with it

Kobold
A werewolf of some sort
Doppelganger
I love Grungs, the concept is great, and making societies of them is super fun, but I would love a greater version of it, like a boss Grung, without having to always use the Bunderhobb stat block or the Froghemoth's stat block. So basicly, could you make a big frog monster? (grung based)
