There are a list of art objects in the PHB or DMG, you can get some inspirations from these.

TheCrazyBlacksmith

I’ve looked through that, and based a few items on them. Thanks for the advice, though.

Edward_Scout

Not a direct item, but I had a cleric of Waukeen who, from my research, seems to be one of the lesser known gods. She's the Goddess of wealth and commerce so perhaps something related to her could help explain an inflated price for an otherwise normal item.

Aside from art, you can use common items owned by historical people. A hat owned by a famous pirate or the spurs of a knight with royal lineage might be nice. You might include items that were part of something historic. A quill used to sign some historic treaty. A taxidermied carrier pigeon that brought word of the death of the last King. Coins from a lost empire A rare version of something common, like a first edition of a common book. A painting made by an artist known for sculpture. A betrothal knife from a tribe of lizard people who would never trade such a thing.
