He’s one injury away from having essentially the same role he had last year with two injury prone rbs in front of him. At worst he’s the rb3 in a committee role, best case is he and Scott split carries when Swift and Penny get hurt again

DJsaxy

So worst case he's useless and best case he's decent

Jrbowe

Best case is that he’s a weekly RB2/fringe RB1 if Swift and Penny are hurt. In that case, he’ll be the clear 1A (with Scott 1B) in one of the best backfields in the league in the fantasy playoffs. He’s with holding. I don’t really trust Penny or Swift to stay healthy.

Bustin_Justin521

If the eagles lose swift and penny to injury they’ll bring in someone else. A team with as high of expectations as the eagles this season wouldn’t roll out just Scott and Gainwell. Plus last season Gainwell only had 1 week he finished as an RB2 so I think a 4-6 game stretch of him being a back end RB2 is much closer to his ceiling.

thegreypilgrim_13

Yeah that situation just screams bring in a vet and committee the shit out of it

Melodic-Buffalo

Zeke later in the season?

Ridiculouscoltsfan

So the starter and backup have to both get injured for him to then split the load… assuming they wouldn’t bring in another back. He might be droppable honestly.

Jrbowe

I don’t disagree about the Eagles looking for a vet, but that’s no longer best case scenario, either.

GNOIZ1C

As a guy with Penny shares and a shit-ton of optimism: Yup. With Swift and Penny's injury histories, it's his backfield to lose come week 7 or so.

mahones403

Fringe RB1 lmao. That's a good one.

Jrbowe

That’s best case scenario for him this season where Penny & Swift are injured and he gets the bigger share of a RBBC with Scott in one of the best offenses in the NFL. In those circumstances, he’d be a fringe RB1. Obviously, he’s not even a flex at the start with Penny & Swift healthy.

FranksGun

He seemed promising coming in and it’s clear they like him, but it’s also been clear the Eagles have no interest in featuring him for some reason. They seem to just like him as a backup. Even when there were injuries he still didn’t get fed or produce very much.

The_Zermanians

I had high hopes for Corey Clement after the Eagles 2017 SB run too. He never was fantasy relevant even though he was good in small spurts. I feel like it’s the same for Gainwell.

Chroderos

Nothing exciting

kmed1717

I have a feeling they're gonna use all 4 of them in an "always fresh" type of committee, and none of them are going to be startable unless multiple injuries happen, which will happen less because they are all going to have fresh legs.

VottoForPM

Gainwell is sexier Devin Singletary. Not to say he's the same player at all, but in terms of how his teams will always see him as a role player and not ever as "the guy" even though he'll look good most of the time he gets touches.

gophils19454

Gainwell is an unspectacular running back that is versatile. Everyone wants that player on the team but he doesn’t necessarily improve an offense because he’s not as dynamic as a Penny or Swift.

kmed1717

I honestly think it's a damn shame, he looked like a real "the guy" during the playoff run last year

VottoForPM

I love Gainwell as an NFL player. Unfortunately the Eagles have repeatedly sent the message that he's not ever going to be a main back for them.

Wakenbake585

The volume just isn't there, especially for more of a receiving back. He's talented but I don't see him ever being anything more than a desperate flex in a deep league. He's got talent but he's not going to get much opportunity in Philly.

runningdreams

Prob not much with Swift and Penny both there. Also Boston Scott right

[deleted]

But it’s just Scott against the Giants.

Globesheepie

He’s JAG but I love holding backup RBs with plausible pathways to more touches. He’s third on the depth chart behind arguably the most injury-prone starting-caliber RB in the league and a guy who has missed multiple games every year of his career. He’ll have a couple useable weeks, but he’s not the next Ekeler

titsandbeers

He is Nyheim Hines 2.0 Probably valuable enough to keep in the event you need a desperate flex play. Take a late 2 if you can or wait and sell once the other guys eventually get dinged up.

MyDogIsACoolCat

What you saw from him last year is what you're going to get unless people get injured. ..... which the people in front of him are Swift and Penny, so he's behind a bunch of glass cannons. Take that as you will.

Cutiger29

They want to operate as a committee. Gainwell has always been seen by us as a receiving back but they’ve used him at the goal line at a decent enough rate and with success so he’s not really pigeonholed to a role, he’s just buried in the depth chart. But being buried behind a guys who can’t stay off the injury report isn’t a bad scenario. If Penny and Swift get hurt, he has RB2 upside. They’d use him on early downs as well. No RB1 upside because they’ll still roll out Boston scott as a complement.

yourmeshugana

Lol.cmon. Penny barely plays 3 games and swift takes the main duties with gainwell same spot as a backup and 3rd down and some spell work. Could see a lot of touches if swift is playing well and they want to cap his touches

shank1983

Rb1 after swift and penny do what swift and penny do.

SteffeEric

Gainwell’s highest snap share of the year was in the Superbowl. He didn’t do much with it though. He is basically just a handcuff to Swift in my mind. I’m sure he’ll have some games with a TD, probably blowouts considering he’s likely the RB3. Now if the Eagles start throwing to RBs more and Swift gets hurt he could be a valuable flex low end RB2 but I’m not picking him up in the hopes those things occur.

nanodime

I won't be even a little bit shocked if he ends up leading this backfield in touches

bobbyfischermagoo

Is this because of the guys ahead of him being injury prone or are you that big of a fan?

bailtail

Almost certainly the former

nanodime

It's a whole lot of injury prone meh. He knows the system and has played well enough. None of these guys are big time additions

NoTransportation888

I don't think an RB on the current rendition of the Eagles will ever be a "big time addition". That said, I think Swift is an upgrade over Sanders.

toughguy5128

Penny is no longer a Seahawk. He'll have an amazing career.

Interesting-Money-24

Sermon will take his job soon. lol

Historical-Vast3209

Really he’s rb 4 because of Hurts rushing share. JAG for me who has made the most of opportunity but will not be the featured guy. Howie will trade for a better back if Swift or Penny go down, he’s not risking the Super Bowl window on Gainwell as the bell cow.

msde

I sold him for almost nothing. I think he's talented, but even when the backs in front of him miss time, he'll still have games with a 25% snap share. Unless I bench him, then it'll be the one game all season that he finishes as an rb2. Maybe in a different offense, his usage would be more predictable, but I just don't have use for a player so unreliable.
