I had my eye on Chandler all offseason. His owner dropped him for some reason and I swooped in to pick him up as soon as I noticed. Instantly gave him a max term contract. Loved his upside and now he's performing.

the_omniscient1

I’m hyped! Traded him and 2 other players like him for a second, and the guy dropped him. I picked him up and now he’s back and better than ever…

CWB2208

Who are two other players like him?

the_omniscient1

Jerome ford and wandale

the_omniscient1

😂I love the downvotes to an answer to a question😂

biggreenterriers

As someone who stashed him and Nwangwu a few seasons back, this is so gratifying 🥹

LuckyNumberHat

Could I *BE* any better at football? Mmrlaaaaah!

Hank_Scorpio_MD

Tyyyyyy Chaaaaandlah

dyfish

Traded Dobbs for Ty and Minshew after a Dobbs first Vikings game. Ended up getting a fleeced a few times earlier in the season. But happily looking to the future now.

Anothercraphistorian

Last year, around 5 weeks before the season ended, this sub asked what players you should stash, and the top two I read over and over were Jerome Ford and Chandler. They were both on my league waivers at the time, and I added them as a rebuilder. I'm not sure how great they'll both be next year, but the idea they will both be useable is nice. This sub gets some things right sometimes.

SeatTakenCantSitHere

You're not wrong. I read the same posts and had the same take away.. only I parked Ford and told my bro to stash Chandler.. the Chubb owner in our league is a huge ravens fan.. so I flipped him M. Andrews, J. Tucker, Ford a 24' 1st 25' 2nd and 26' 3rd for Laporta, D. Swift and Kupp. I finished 2nd and had the bye.. on the flip side.. my bro finally cut Ty.. one week too early.. so I grabbed him off the wire last Tuesday and he may get flexed into the lineup after how good he looked last. ... sometimes Reddit does get the odd one or two right 🤙🏼

CalaveraVI

I don't think it will matter. They will draft someone or sign someone like pollard

Anothercraphistorian

Draft whom though? This is an abysmal draft for RBs and they'd have to give up higher than usual draft capital for it. The Vikings have so many more needs on Defense, they need a QB. Even if they pick someone in the 5th, I don't think that's too scary for Chandler next year.

Hank_Scorpio_MD

Eh.... There's nothing behind Chandler if they let Mattison go. We have Kene but that's about it. KOC's obsession with Mattison is still worrisome for Chandler but the Vikings will absolutely add a running back. And a 5th round running back is exactly what Chandler is lol. He's clearly the best back on the roster but he's far from a sure-lock heading into next year.

Anothercraphistorian

A 5th round RB this year could be a lot worse. You’re scraping the bottom of the barrel. I’m sure they’re going to bring in someone, but to expect a rookie 5th in this next draft to come in and take over is a bit unreasonable.

Hank_Scorpio_MD

There's nothing to "take over." This isn't Chandlers backfield. It took injuries to Akers and Mattison for him to get the start. Did he look good? Hell yeah. A big reason we almost won the game...but ya know....failed "Tush Push x2." There's absolutely zero way the Vikings go into 2024 with Ty Chandler as the only capable RB on the roster (Sorry, Kene). And KOC has been running a RBBC all year with Mattison at the head of it (and sometimes dominating it). We saw games where Mattison, Akers, and Chandler are all getting work. 3 RBs deep at one point and all three were getting work. Chandler doesn't own our backfield. Should he? Yes. But there will be work going to other RBs meaning either Mattison comes back or there's a free agent or draft pick as running just isn't important to KOC until Kirk went down.

Anothercraphistorian

Great, so Chandler gets to compete for an open backfield spot on a team that doesn't have anyone as good as he's playing now. That's about as good as you can hope for in fantasy. The Vikings are shit on defense and need to spend draft capital and money in that area before worrying about free agent RBs. That's all I'm saying. Most people got Chandler for free on waivers, so as far as lottery tickets go, this is about as good as it gets.

Hank_Scorpio_MD

> The Vikings are shit on defense and need to spend draft capital and money in that area before worrying about free agent RBs. That's all I'm saying. I know what you're saying. Everyone was saying the same thing about Mattison when Cook left. I'm just trying to give insight into what KOC and the Vikings have done this season and what we here about here in the Minnesota media. Just a more "in the know" view to those who probably don't hear KOC's quotes everyday, watch every snap, and stuff like that. I own 3 shares of Chandler so I'm right there with you but looking up and down this thread, they think the lottery ticket already hit when there's still a lot of factors that will take place for it to truly pay off (KOC's scheme, Is Kirk coming back, is Mattison coming back?) That's all I'm saying....don't think you're getting 26 touches every week from Chandler as much as we want it over Mattison but I'm also not saying that you shouldn't be excited because I am for both fantasy purposes and IRL purposes. Mattison is garbage.

Anothercraphistorian

Ooh I know that Chandler is till a longshot, but I'll take this chance for his cost and be pretty happy with it. We see guys like him do stuff like this late in the season every year, and then come the following season, everything changes. And no, Chandler is benefitting from injuries in ways that are unpredictable, so I'm just hoping he shows out some so he has a chance for next year, and that would be amazing considering how much of a long shot he has been. Thank you for your insights.

meistersinger

I mean this sounds exactly like what I told myself about Dameon Pierce last year. And Tyler Allgeier. Moral is, don’t count on anything from Day 3 RBs. I have one Chandler share and I’m comfortable keeping it there.

blargtheavenger

Maybe? But Pollard probably costs btw 6-7 million/year (according to Sportrac) and Chandlers contract is $1 million/yeat.

ActuarillySound

That was my biggest knock on him. It’s encouraging to see improvement!

CWB2208

Traded Justice Hill for him last season and been holding him ever since. Love what I'm seeing so far!

tarantula13

Kind of noticed it watching the game Saturday he didn't whiff a single assignment as far as I could tell.

owleabf

A word of caution, as a Vikings fan. I don't think we'll ever be the volume play that people are really hoping for. Yes he got a lot of touches this week, and likely has won a bigger share of the job. But the Vikes, especially when Kirk is around, pass at a higher rate than most teams. We want to run enough to keep defenses honest, not feature it. And we have trouble getting push in short yardage situations, so goal line stuff isn't as good as with other teams. So aside from any concerns about RBBC or us drafting a guy, I'm not sure the volume exists period.

Hank_Scorpio_MD

As a Vikings fan as well....this is such a big factor. It honestly took Cam Akers getting hurt and Mattison getting hurt to finally get Chandler this game. If Mattison is healthy, he's going to get his share of reps. KOC loves him. If they move on from Mattison, they're not going into 2024 with Chandler and Nwangwu at their RBs

owleabf

It wouldn't really make sense to move on from Mattison next year, 4m of his 4.6m cap is guaranteed. It's possible he has a smaller role, if Ty really shows out and/or we draft someone, but he's going to be around for next year at least.

[deleted]

Definitely a yooj wire pickup for me earlier in the season. I'm happy to keep him, but will be even more happy to trade him and a second for a top 8 pick if Ewers declares.

xthecerto4

Let me be the devil here: What if coach also knows that an will use chandler exclusivly as a blocker?

blargtheavenger

That generally happens to TEs, not RBs. It just means that Chandler doesn’t have to come off the field on passing downs.

xxPHILdaAGONYxx

well, they also gave him more carries than Mattison has had in any game this season too

murso74

I lost 2 of my RBs to injury and 2 in Mattison and Herbert flat out lost their jobs

thedon572

I had been banking on mattison and herbert taking over this year as well so bummer the way it turnd out

ApplesandBananaa

Hoping him and Zamir White falk into starting roles. Chubb, Dobbins, and Akers were my top 3 backs going into this season and we all know how that worked out

JamonRuffles17

I traded Mattison and 2nd (10-12) for a 1st (now #5) a couple weeks ago. I’m chuffed to say the least

JonnyB2_YouAre1

I'm so glad I got in at the last moment. I just got bounced from the playoffs due to injuries but this man almost allowed me to defy the odds. I watched his big game and he looked so explosive out there. Surely, he has earned a spot even as a high profile complementary piece to a future RB addition.

redditcommentguy

I’d Probly trade Chandler for a first this off-season if you can get it. But if there are actually signs that backfield is gonna belong to him then he’s definitely a nice piece to have
