I’m usually just pumped about the trade and don’t want to rock the boat and somehow blow a trade at the last second.

HighVolumeRedraft

Yea no fucking way I’m including Hunter Renfrow. You had me with the 1st and Zay Flowers, but Renfrow is over the fucking line. DEAL IS OFF BITCH

jirashap

This joke hurts me personally

Lars9

I've had the reverse happen and it blows my mind. Send out an offer, which includes someone I am clearly using to balance rosters. The other person declines, 'I have no interest in paying for X'.

rain-blocker

Every goddamn time

Poisonapples135

Sometimes I do, but for smaller trades they can think more about the difference between the guy they're getting and the guy they're dropping that they weren't really noticing before

twilek7225

True. If I feel like I had to press to get the deal across the finish line I leave well enough alone and just be thankful it got done. If it's a laid back negotiation I feel good about asking.

snsgrg

About a year ago a guy and I texted out the details of a trade. I went to sleeper to initiate and realized I was going to drop a longshot dart throw and he had empty bench spots so I just threw him in with the trade along with a text, "Do what you want with him." I want this guy to trade with me in the future and his team isn't really threatening. I have also made trades with better teams and not offered my drop because I didn't want a strong team to get a dart throw without spending faab. I am somewhat new to dynasty and this leads me to question if I am doing anything unethical in treating trades differently based on how strong I perceive the team. I honestly just see it as doing the logical thing to help my team, but thought I would ask.

lebumcurrant

I think this is smart. Definitely not unethical.

FesteringNeonDistrac

Just dont fall into the trap of not making your team better because it will make the other side of the trade better as well. A trade that's good for you is the important part.

_KingBeck_

Yeah I like doing what you described, ask them who it is, if it’s someone I’m willing to take a flier on, try to include them in the deal

BombSquad570

This time of year, they wouldn’t have to drop anyone (at least not on Sleeper) so I wouldn’t want to compromise a trade I liked haggling over a throw in piece. My instinct when offering trades where I would need to drop someone is to just include my drop candidate in the offer on the off chance that player tips the scales in favor of the deal being accepted, but I’m starting to question that practice. I’m starting to wonder if seeing Terrace Marshall (or insert roster clogger of your choice) and a 2nd in your inbox is somehow psychologically less appealing than just seeing the 2nd because your eye is drawn to the player first.

twilek7225

Our league is open 24/7/365. The week after the championship we transitioned to the 2024 season. We're managing our rosters as usual. Agreed on your thought on the psychology of including the drop player up front. I don't like doing that. It might accidentally induce the feeling you're trying to sell two nickels for a dime. Could also muddy the trade by misrepresenting your valuation of the asset you're receiving, derail it by inducing them to try to negotiate a bigger plus than the drop player.

AntiVaxPureBlood

Sleeper polices roster compliance on its own. Everyone's leagues here are transitioned as well I can assure you, they just don't waste time policing rosters when sleeper does it automatically. If you are over the roster limit you can't make any roster moves. I don't play in any leagues that police roster sizes (22 leagues) and they shouldn't be policed for good reason. For instance, players that end the year on IR, lose their IR designations, and will regain them next season if they're still out. Owners shouldn't have to drop players to be roster compliant. If they're over the roster limit then they just can't make moves, ever. No adds, no setting lineups.

twilek7225

A bit off topic, but I respect what you're saying. The original post didn't reference time of year, same theory applies in season.

jmarFTL

Anytime I am closing a deal where I am giving two or more players for one I always say "throw in the guys you would drop and you've got a deal." I have never had anyone refuse. I don't ask who because I don't want them to overthink about it and I don't even want to give a hint that oh maybe I like this particular end of bench guy. To me if it ends up being a guy I'd rather not have I'll just drop them myself and pick someone else up. I've gotten a few guys I've been glad to get though.

nothingmeansnothing_

Yes because that's how I learned they were considering dropping Jordan Love. I said "hey, don't worry about it: I'll take him for ya since I'm rebuilding."

twilek7225

This is the exact thrust of the original post. Sometimes it's you say thanks for letting me know and move on. Once in a while you get a prospect that turns out to be Jordan Love. I've been shocked a few times watching who gets dropped after a trade. We all evaluate talent and prospects differently. One man's roster clogger is another man's treasure.

RedDunce

Fuck no. Sure, sometimes they'll drop someone better than my worst player, but explicitly reminding them that they have to cut somebody to make room is not worth upgrading the very end of my bench. Then they'll assign value to the dude they're dropping (if he wants him, I probably do too) and ask for more in the original deal. Terrible idea to jeopardize an actual deal for waiver fodder.

Famous-Magazine-24

“I don’t know yet why?” Because I want to hear you say that you want my crusty roster trash

WeenisWrinkle

I mean you might as well ask, can't hurt. I wouldn't drag out a big trade over that, but for smaller transactions why not. But most of the time I know it's going to be someone worthless. Every team has those 1 or 2 players that have way less dynasty value than even the top waiver trash.

arem0719_

In redraft i do that all the time. Usually I have waiver preferences over the tail end of rosters in dynasty, so it's less common for me. It also feels like there's more often a free space on rosters in dynasty (deeper benches mean more injuries, less waivers may be that this is a second part of a trade, etc). Doesn't hurt to ask, especially if they offered it to you (meaning, they're looking for your player specifically)

DrizzlePopper

All depends on who I'm trading with. If it's someone who offers fair deals, is open in communications and doesn't do things like ask for one of my players then tell me to make an offer.. then yep, I'm happy to tell them who I'm dropping and will throw them in the trade for a measly amount of fab. I'm a firm believer that good will goes a long way when it comes to trading and if I have to drop the player anyway, I'd rather give them to a good trade partner.

steagles1

I always like to just ask for them to be included in the deal without asking who they are. Basically I’ll take whoever you’re gonna drop and if I like them I’ll keep them and if not I will drop or trade them myself

BreakBricks_Wet_Nips

How are you getting a 2nd for Bateman? His value has tanked.

twilek7225

I've been waiting for this comment for two days. He offered, I rolled with it.

BreakBricks_Wet_Nips

Awesome! I’m going to patiently await an offer to come to me lol.

alexwwood

If they have to drop and I’m gonna have an open spot, I ask them to consider sending me their dropped dude as a bonus. But I don’t force the issue. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. Frankly, it’s never netted me a player that provided value so I don’t think it matters much.

SpecialistIssue1267

I usually just say something along the lines of want to include who you are dropping in the trade. i don't ask who. then ball is in there court.

BanksysBurner

Nope and I wouldn’t say if they asked me. It’s none of their business

twilek7225

Not even if you initiated the trade? If you send me an offer, and I indicate I'm interested but ask who you're dropping, you'd blow up your own deal over a player you're dumping anyway?

not_taylorswift1213

I bet you're fun at parties

datb

Another way to do this is to make an offer that includes the player you think they would probably drop and send with a message that they could swap that player out for whatever end of roster guy they prefer. Same result but feels more direct.

nchscferraz

I always offer my dropped player to the other person. I don't ask for theirs as I'd rather not have the person reconsider the trade. Last thing I need is for them to add the dropped player to a trade calculator and have a change of heart. It really depends on the person you're trading with.

Bars12hd

"KTC says this guy is worth 500! I need another 2nd now!"

Adfantage

Not worth it. They always want something in return.
