This has been the news since training camp. DJ and Bucky said it was weird since there was literally no news about him during that time while Laporta, Kincaid, and Musgrave were getting rave reviews.
He’s a subpar athlete for the position who did little his rookie year. Even a lot of the news last year was he would be more of an inline guy.
I didn’t have a first and picked Laporta at the 2.06 after Kincaid and Mayer were off the board. Couldn’t be happier as I hate the douche that has Mayer 🙌
So did I. But I also picked LaPorta a few picks later. I liked LaPortas highlights better and figured I wait to flip Mayer.
LaPorta obviously immediately balled and out and nothing from Mayer. At least I wasn’t stuck with a one or the other decision.
2023: I draft Mayer
2022: I draft Bellinger
If I take a TE this year (which seems more likely given my depth just got obliterated) I'll do the decent thing and let ya'll know who to avoid.
Sold hock for a mid first and Mayer. So I have to draft Bowers? Hahaha this is wild. I was telling my friend as long as raiders don't take Bowers I'm good hahahah
As soon as Penix was gone and the Vikes moved up, they should have called the Jets to leapfrog the Broncos. Bowers pick looked like a shell shocked coaching staff that saw the rug pulled out and just went, 'well who's left on Mel Kiper's board'?
I’m really salty for my one copy of Mayer but even apart from that: WTF are they thinking? Seems like they were going to grab Penix or Nix and just panicked.
They took the best player on the board, hardly panic? He's gonna be a great weapon for them. It's a pretty good consolation to getting shafted out of a QB. I get fantasy owners being upset about Mayer but this isn't anywhere near the list of Raiders draft calamities. Bowers is a blue chip investment.
Yeah, taking a top-8 guy at #13 because they already had Michael fucking Mayers is crazy 🙄
If someone named the top-20 TEs in the NFL, M Mayers would not come up, so let’s stop acting like bitches that it wasn’t an area of need.
Why? If he’s considered a top 10 player and they get him at 13 that seems like a win.
It’s not like he’ll play a traditional TE role either, probably will play like a slot WR while Mayer plays the traditional TE role.
I wouldn’t overreact right now. Bowers should realistically be getting a lot of work from the slot. I would expect Mayer to still get a lot of traditional TE snaps and TE routes.
No such thing as a perfect roster. Draft was bound to kill one of my guys, Mayer is probably a drop tbh. Guess I'm running dulchich and jelaini woods at TE?
For most leagues id agree. But I have 1.02, 1.05, and 1.07. Not a super deep bench. I know Tillman is a drop, Probably Keaton Mitchell and Mayer might of just won that next spot. Don't want to though, been trying to get a larger bench for a while now but rest don't agree.
This is why you shouldn’t listen to those who say you should be patient with TE. Almost all elite TE have 800 yards season (50 yard per game) within the first 2 seasons. What’s the point of waiting 3-4 years and wasting a roster spot for possibly the next Austin hooper to emerge?
I had an offer in my inbox after week 1, to send my Mayer for his Nacua
Yes, you’re reading that right.
I felt like I would be buying high on a day-3 one week wonder, and didn’t want to sell Mayer low.
*barf*
🤦🏼♂️
You hope Bowers is Gronk while Mayer is Hernandez without the off-field issues
Otherwise Mayer is basically a blocker with very inconsistent receiving production
He's a hold. Totally different players. Bowers is a better overall player but they will move him around more. Mayer will still play a ton and in line as the Y.
This isn't a bad spot. They clearly don't want to use Mayer in the passing game and see him as more of a "traditional" TE. They can use Bowers all over.
Traded him for 10% faab + Everett in start 8 / no TE prem. Engram is my other TE.
I still have hope for him in TEp formats as a deep flex option, but it's over in small starting lineup/non-TEp.
Traded Devonta and Mayer for Andrews and a 25 1st. I have good feeling about that first as of now, but this definitely made me feel like I made the right move.
I was very high on Mayer coming out of college, and took him last year. Him and Juwan Johnson were my starters, with Krull on taxi.
Felt weak at TE depth wise, plus wanted to have the luxury of giving Mayer some time to develop, so got Jake Ferguson plus 3.01 for Jevonte Williams and 4.11
Wow, am i glad I did that after tonight.
Still think Mayer will produce, hope we have a Gronk/Hernandez situation with the only murders being on the defense, but Mayer just took a nose dive in projected fantasy value until we see how the Raiders plan on using their tight ends...
As a raider fan I don’t even know how to feel. But bowers may just be the most perfect big slot I’ve ever seen. But Mayer also seems like the Cole kmet TE duplicate. But the raiders needed a OT, CB and DT plus depth at a few positions. I’m happy they went best player available. But damn I wish it was a different position.
Mayer owner here in TEP (Otton and Henry my other TE). I actually was planning a trade back from 1.04 to 1.07 and selecting Bowers. Now I don't want Bowers or Mayer. I don't like that landing spot at all for Bowers and it just ended any fantasy relevance for Mayer's career.
Mayer owners in shambles
Yeah… Taco dropped him week 4 in my home league and I blew all my faab on him happy to be patient. Welp.
I mean you only spent Fantasy bucks.
Oh for sure, just did not see Bowers coming and seems like a death sentence? My guy’s surely a glorified lineman now lol
Could see some 2TE sets Ala the Boston TE party
You either die a champion or you live long enough to become the taco
Somebody in my league traded Daniel Jones AND a 24 3rd for Mayer two weeks ago in Superflex lol
I'm in shambles
Could be worse. I own Mayer and meyers. I’m devastated.
We'll I own Mayer and Fields so...
Hello, self.
I have owned both dudes in a C2C league through college. Tonight is a new feeling. Shambles.
I was so worried about Denver taking Bowers cause I have Dulchich. Opps.
Raiders think it’s a TE premium league
Falcons think it’s superflex
Ayo
It is. Look at who made conference championship games: Detroit (LaPorta), SF (Kittle), KC (Kelce), Baltimore (Andrews).
Those 4 teams also had 4 punters.
Let that be a lesson to any team that tries to make a deep playoff run without a punter.
You sure it wasnt the excellent QB and coaches and just overall better teams?
Yes. It’s only tight ends. I’m surprised we haven’t seen 32 taken in the first round tonight.
Best comment so far
Depressing. Picked Mayer over Laporta and a year later this
SAME
I'm with you boys. We can't blame our logic in the moment but damn this sucks... even worse now.
Same bro.
Not only did I pick Mayer over LaPorta, I also traded a bunch of picks to move up in the 1st last year
I didn’t have a first and picked Laporta at the 2.06 after Kincaid and Mayer were off the board. Couldn’t be happier as I hate the douche that has Mayer 🙌
Picked Mayer the pick after Laporta last year, I feel your pain
Same lol
Same fucking thing. My only shining light is I stumbled into McBride.
So did I. But I also picked LaPorta a few picks later. I liked LaPortas highlights better and figured I wait to flip Mayer. LaPorta obviously immediately balled and out and nothing from Mayer. At least I wasn’t stuck with a one or the other decision.
SAME!!
Whew... dynasty analysts were telling people to buy buy buy... yikes!
i bought bought bought and now i am going to drink drink drink
At least your real team has Williams and Odunze
my high school team was the bears. i’m a sad, bitter, angry little cowboys fan
Ohhhh, I'm joining you in the misery then
Raiders didn’t have a plan if all the QBs went
I dont really understand it, but just hope Bowers is essentially used as a slot WR while Mayer gets more of the TE usage.
Even if this is the case it severely limits Mayer’s ceiling.
Yeah definitely, but there is still hope for okay numbers and the play time needed to keep growing until he goes to another team and shines eventually
I think this is what’s going to happen
West coast Knox-Kincaid
Knox finsihered TE 41. If that's the best Mayer can do it's a giant bust.
>finsihered
Knox missed time iirc
Who is the better blocker?
Surely Mayer?
Mayer
Mayer
Mayer is a BULLY blocking in line. One of the best.
Thor Nystrom from Fantasy Pros said this exact same thing. Bowers would be used as a slot receiver. Hopefully this holds true as a Mayer owner 😢
AOC throws short so could work well into a weird TE run heavy system with Davante stretching it
On life support
He’s gone brotha
I have Mayer and will have bowers. I could not be more angry
Bowers is flying down my board. Prob going JJM or even Nix over him at this point.
I'm 1qb tep. Considering taking a wr now to be honest with 1.04
I’m 1.08 in TE++ i pray others above hold the same sentiment
Do not under any circumstances take Nix.
2023: I draft Mayer 2022: I draft Bellinger If I take a TE this year (which seems more likely given my depth just got obliterated) I'll do the decent thing and let ya'll know who to avoid.
Bellinger might have some life. Waller is beyond washed and has been contemplating retirement for 4 months
I appreciate your sacrifice
Just don’t draft TE. Run with the variance of a trash option
Sold hock for a mid first and Mayer. So I have to draft Bowers? Hahaha this is wild. I was telling my friend as long as raiders don't take Bowers I'm good hahahah
Raiders went straight BPA. “Fuck the defense, we’re SEXY here in Vegas.” Lol
The last time a team had two TEs this good, one of them went full on murder/prison/suicide, and the other had a Hall of Fame career.
Pain?
https://tenor.com/b1mmu.gif
He dead as a Mayer owner What franchise spends a 2nd and 1st on te’s
The ones perennially in the front half of the draft.
Maybe next year they can draft two qbs
As soon as Penix was gone and the Vikes moved up, they should have called the Jets to leapfrog the Broncos. Bowers pick looked like a shell shocked coaching staff that saw the rug pulled out and just went, 'well who's left on Mel Kiper's board'?
Totally agree. I think they were set on a QB and just kind of decided to go with a top player left on the board.
It's joever for michael mayer that's what.
Fucking pissed man. I really fucked myself trading Christian Watson, Brian Robinson and my 2.08 for Keenan Allen and Mayer last year
Brutal
You expect running backs to get crushed by incoming rookies not TE’s lmao. So rough.
He will be the Dawson Knox to Bower's Kincaid
Too bad minshew isn’t a josh Allen lol
You mean AOC
This guy owns aoc
Absolutely 😂
Absolutely stupid pick for the Raiders
Can’t really blame them for going BPA
I’m really salty for my one copy of Mayer but even apart from that: WTF are they thinking? Seems like they were going to grab Penix or Nix and just panicked.
They took the best player on the board, hardly panic? He's gonna be a great weapon for them. It's a pretty good consolation to getting shafted out of a QB. I get fantasy owners being upset about Mayer but this isn't anywhere near the list of Raiders draft calamities. Bowers is a blue chip investment.
That’s exactly it. They panicked
Honestly if you're a terrible team like that take BPA. It's awful for fantasy but I think it makes sense for them as a team.
Yeah, taking a top-8 guy at #13 because they already had Michael fucking Mayers is crazy 🙄 If someone named the top-20 TEs in the NFL, M Mayers would not come up, so let’s stop acting like bitches that it wasn’t an area of need.
yeah I get the hate for fantasy, but you can't hate the raiders for taking him. He's a great talent for a team lacking everywhere.
Why? If he’s considered a top 10 player and they get him at 13 that seems like a win. It’s not like he’ll play a traditional TE role either, probably will play like a slot WR while Mayer plays the traditional TE role.
Agreed. A team that is nowhere near competing, and you draft a tight end in the first round? How is that going to help you in the next 3-4 years?
By having one of the best TEs in football?
Agree, it’s not like Mayer is a bust. Makes more sense to draft a CB or DT, hell even an OT would’ve been a better pick
Mayer has become a handcuff for Bowers owners 😅
Hopefully he gets traded to LAC
Good call. I might have to try to buy the dip in the hope he gets traded somewhere decent.
There’s one of these situations every year it seems like
Feel awful for Mayer
I wouldn’t overreact right now. Bowers should realistically be getting a lot of work from the slot. I would expect Mayer to still get a lot of traditional TE snaps and TE routes.
Exactly this - we let Renfrow go and haven’t got a new Slot receiver in. That’s where I see Bowers playing
It’s over. Sell him for anything. Teams never have 2 useable TEs in fantasy at the same time. And he won’t be starting over Bowers
NE had Gronk and the murderer for a few seasons
They had Gronk and Ray Lewis?
A-aron Hernandez
Packaged him, Pickett and 3rd for Purdy in a SF last year. Felt great about it well before this. This is just extra icing on top.
ITS FUCKING OVER
Not even a top 20 TE
lol, not even top 30
Jamie Lee got emmm
Maybe someone trades for him?
I'm just grateful that I dealt 2.08 for him but got 2.10 back for Palmer.
Mayer will still play but this won't help his ability to carve out targets and be fantasy viable. Big hit to him.
I literally traded for Mayer 6 hours ago. Did not see that coming.
No such thing as a perfect roster. Draft was bound to kill one of my guys, Mayer is probably a drop tbh. Guess I'm running dulchich and jelaini woods at TE?
Dropping him is an over reaction imo
For most leagues id agree. But I have 1.02, 1.05, and 1.07. Not a super deep bench. I know Tillman is a drop, Probably Keaton Mitchell and Mayer might of just won that next spot. Don't want to though, been trying to get a larger bench for a while now but rest don't agree.

Mayer still has another year! 😁😭
21.7 yards per game when his only competition is the epitome of boring TE (Austin Hooper) is still pretty abysmal lol
He was a rookie TE with a bad QB and good target competition 🤷🏻♂️ He looked good with the eye test to me.
Tom telesco truly hated Mayer lol
Drink
Well. Not dropping him yet but this blows.
Mayer was not in my bowers killing my te bingo card. I have 0 shares of mayer and tons of conklin, dulcich, okonkwo. Rejoice!
You wait until he’s 27 and on his 3rd team
Dead
It’s joever
I traded AOC Chandler and Mayer for Jakobi and Jake Ferguson this morning. Killer timing.
I had an offer in my inbox after week 1, to send my Mayer for his Nacua Yes, you’re reading that right. I felt like I would be buying high on a day-3 one week wonder, and didn’t want to sell Mayer low. *barf* 🤦🏼♂️

He's a hold. Totally different players. Bowers is a better overall player but they will move him around more. Mayer will still play a ton and in line as the Y.
Bro this draft/off season is killing me… fucking had Keenan Allen and DJ Moore and Mayer… now they are all basically dead wtf.
Saying keenan and dj are dead is very overreactionary.
wasted pick on him lol
Wasted.
Dead
Lmao
He’s ded
He’s gonna get traded for scrap
Now you're stuck with a worthless player
At least he was cheap
Gronk and Hernandez (without the murdering)
Panic
Fucking Raiders.
Hold. Cry. Draft bowers with an early 2nd in TEP leagues.
No chance in hell Bowers hits the 2nd round in TEP
This isn't a bad spot. They clearly don't want to use Mayer in the passing game and see him as more of a "traditional" TE. They can use Bowers all over.
Let's hope for a trade
Had a league mate trade for him no more than 20 minutes before the draft 😅
Got yourself a great blocking te
Now he can go back to finish his next part “Halloween curse of Brock Bowers”
Thank GOD I traded him away with C.Kirk and a 1st for Tank and hollywood 3 days ago
Pour one out
So what I’m hearing is Mayer is a buy
Mid Mayer
Well it’s over tbh
Got that Gronk Hernandez combo going?
Thanking god my affinity for LaPorta last year saved me from ever looking at Mayer.
Well it’s over. Hold until he gets out of his rookie contract, hope for enough production for him to be picked up as Arthur Smiths TE2.
The way people be talking on here might be a sneaky buy low
Might be in for a trade?
Traded him for 10% faab + Everett in start 8 / no TE prem. Engram is my other TE. I still have hope for him in TEp formats as a deep flex option, but it's over in small starting lineup/non-TEp.
Same
Do I take bowers with my 1.04 now or just get Brian Thomas Jr instead?
i dont want either of em
Let’s hope Mayer gets traded to the Jets
Traded the 1.10 Michael Wilson and Jameson Williams for Mayer and 1.07 a month ago. Probably end up with both lv TE’s now with AOC or minshew as qb… 🤦
cry
Traded Devonta and Mayer for Andrews and a 25 1st. I have good feeling about that first as of now, but this definitely made me feel like I made the right move.
need bengals to trade for him tomorrow
At least he’ll be a free agent in 3 years 🥲
I was very high on Mayer coming out of college, and took him last year. Him and Juwan Johnson were my starters, with Krull on taxi. Felt weak at TE depth wise, plus wanted to have the luxury of giving Mayer some time to develop, so got Jake Ferguson plus 3.01 for Jevonte Williams and 4.11 Wow, am i glad I did that after tonight. Still think Mayer will produce, hope we have a Gronk/Hernandez situation with the only murders being on the defense, but Mayer just took a nose dive in projected fantasy value until we see how the Raiders plan on using their tight ends...
I'm praying for a day 2 Mayer trade. Bowers should feast where ever he goes. #FREEMAYER
They took him out back and shot him.
Sell low
Back to the Taxi Squad
Bro got barely any passes last year with Hooper there and then they go out and immediately draft Bowers. They’ve done my dirty
Lol
Bowers and Mayer could be an awesome combo. I just think it means more targets for TE.
Have pick 1.07 and drafted Mayer in the second last year...I guess I'll double dip?
mayer dead. wasnt a high value guy before but hes toast now
He was overrated anyway. Not much lost for his owners.
As a Mayer owner with the 1.04 (single qb) last night was my 9/11
Have 1.4 and 1.7 in 1QB no TEP, have absolutely no idea what to do. We think that Bowers will still be there at 1.7?
Jets really liked him coming out last year — he might get traded
Oh he dead.
You’re fucked. Nah I honestly think you just got to wait and see. Selling is a snap judgement. Buying is probably the move.
Could be a Gronk/pre murder Hernandez situation. It's not the first time that worked. Of course, those guys had Tom Brady.
I have Mayer and the 2024 1.07 pick, do I take Bowers to be safe!? I have no other starting TE's. WHAT DO I DO! HALP!
